ill from knowledge

Have you ever felt like knowledge is being crammed down your throat in School? Do you ever feel physically ill (like you're gunna thow up)? You're going to be tested later on something insanely complicated? Today, for me, in algebra 2, we are starting to learn about conix, and I feel ill. There are so many formulas, so many variables, so many variations, so much space to make a tiny error, I feel like I'm gunna die in math. Unless anybody knows an easy way to memorize a bunch of complicated formulas and how to use them ;) anyone ever feel ill from knowledge?

My knowledge is whole.

All gaps in my knowledge have been filled. I am in possession of all life's necessary information. The specific gravity of culm is 0.75. Steel wire with a diameter of 92mm has a safe working load of 930kN To temper steel to be suitable for twist drill, heat it until it turns a pale straw-yellow. An American fluid ounce holds 8 drams, but a British fluid ounce only holds 7.6861 drams In other words, this morning's post brought my copy of the 2010 edition of Glover's Pocket Reference. Actually, I don't know everything.  I know it floats in water, but I don't know what "culm" actually is...

How do we remember? Answered

If anything was an inspiration to education in the wider sense I would think the breadth if not the depth of knowledge the regular answerers here show is an excellent example. How much information can the human brain contain without exploding. Where in 1972 was a speed record of 11.2 MPH set? Who was the second president of the USA Alphabetically what are the first and last US states. What was the Beatles first film We can all, (well mostly), look up the answers but knows of the top of their head??

Anyone here have hyperterminal knowledge?

I was hoping someone here would possibly know about using hyperterminal in windows. The situation is: 1. I am able to connect a laptop and a desktop computer via dialup modems through a 100 foot telephone wire, and transfer files using window's xp's hyperterminal program. 2. I want to somehow bridge the ethernet connection on the desktop computer to the dialup modem, to enable me to have internet access on the laptop via internet explorer/whatever. 3. If I can connect two computers via their modems with a frickin telephone cord and send files, then I know it is possible to bridge the ethernet connection into the modem like one would bridge a wireless connection to the ethernet port of a windows xp machine so they can connect a pc to the ethernet port and use internet traffic for it. 4. I know it's simply a matter of implementing it. Anyone have any ideas?

Wikipedia really is the source of all knowledge?

Well PKM and I were discussing the existence of Maxibon, a very tasty ice cream bar from Nestle which is hard to find, this was in the chatroom, which if you ever frequent you'll know how the conversations go in there. So a little while later I'm kicking about and take another gander at the wikipedia page about maxibon, all seems sensible, until I hit the flavours list, being a fan of powerthirst I instantly recognized these flavours, which some from the second of the two productions found here. Here's the strange excerpt, watch Powerthirst two for the full understanding of this strange addition... Maxibon is now available in several guises and flavours including SHOCKLATE and all new experimental flavour, GUN!Although the standard Maxibon flavour is refugee, several other limited edition flavours were introduced in the late nineties. Marketed as Maxibon asylum, the concept involved the actual flavour of the ice-cream remaining a mystery until the package was opened. In addition to the standard size, they are also available in snack sized servings in packets of six; these are substantially smaller than the traditional Maxibon. There is also a new release Maxibon Cookie, where the ice cream is in a round shape and covered in cookie dough. The page can be found here I know this isn't a big or new thing, I just found this a funny example of what can go wrong with the wiki societies.

Measuring LED Voltage

Greetings... I have quite a few "salvaged" LED's, none of which have I the slightest clue as to their voltage. I have attempted to measure them using the diode setting on my voltmeter with dubious/mixed/questionable results. Although the measurements are momentary (the reading is barely of sufficient length to note), I can usually arrive at a value. Unfortunately, when I repeat the measurement on the same LED the reading is invariably different. For example, I just measured the value of a random LED (green) and came up with the following: 1.3. 1.4, 1.8, 1.6. I've rounded the values to the nearest decimal point. Are these values through voltage? Are the differences between the readings significant or should I use the minimum when calculating resistor values? I'll, no doubt, have a few more question later on. I appreciate your elucidation on this matter... Best to all, hassi

General knowledge about working with an AC motor? Answered

Hi Everybody!  I recently salvaged a 1/3 hp single phase AC motor, which I'd like to use for a lathe.  I've been looking at diy lathes on instructables and elsewhere and have found that DC motors are mostly used in these kind of projects.  I understand that DC is generally battery powered and AC requires a power cord and each can be converted to the other.  My question is whether an AC motor is suitable for a lathe and whether any extra safety concerns are involved.  Should I convert it to DC?  Should I buy a DC motor instead?  Also, any information about whether or not the single phase business is a problem would be helpful too.  I have found a lot of interesting theory and a few interesting tidbits online, but I could really use some experienced opinions.  And I don't know anywhere better than instructables to ask for those. Help, please, and thank you!

Electronic knowledge wanted: Transistor/Transistor logic Answered

Hi all. I am embarking on an electronics project and I was hoping to gain some info on using transistors as logic gates in a circuit. I searched both the interwebs and instructables extensively, but all the info I could find was either outdated or was in a level of techno-babble my Noobish hardware skills could not comprehend (been programming for years; Just recently decided to dabble in hardware). To summarize: I want to know how to construct AND, OR, NOT, XOR and the like and integrate it into my circuit using primarily transistors, and maybe some capacitors. Is there something I have gotten mistaken in this premise? Is this really the proper use for a transistor? Should I use something else, is there a better method? Please note that I have little experience in non-software areas (I understand what voltage and amperage is (kinda) and what serial and parallel circuits are, and the proper configurations of positive and negative). I also do not want to use a microcontroller for this; Just me and my wires. I would be immensely thankful for some help. I apologize in advance if I have gotten anything wrong here.

Led Clock Feasibility - my first arduino project

Hi guys and good morning all from a total newbie to this world. The aim of this post is to ask you guys if i'm going the right direction to master the knowledge to build my project. To cut a long story short, my plan is to build a clock mixing the old style design of reclaimed pallets with a touch of modernity using LEDs to mark hours , minutes and seconds. The aim is to keep all the lights ON once the given time has passed. To be clearer, if the minutes are "18" i would like all the previous leds (0 to 17) to be all on. I'm pretty sure that the knowledge to build this resides in mastering Charlieplexing and Shift Registering (please correct me if i'm wrong). So at this point in time, i know what i have to "study" to give life to my project the way it's designed in my mind. I've already seen some clocks working this way, hence i'm pretty sure it can be done (happy days!). Point is that i've only seen clocks where this design is achieved with only 1 row of leds. My aim is to swith on 4 rows at any Tn time. So, for the minutes, once it reaches 59, i should have 59 * 4 = 236 LEDs ON simultaneously (for the minutes only... plus N for the hours). Can anyone point me to the right knowledge to be mastered to achieve this? I'm assuming is a problem of sustainable voltage (resistors, power supplies etc etc) leds in paralel/serial; multiple shift registers and so on so forth... I'm attaching a small mock-up to be understandable on what i would like to achieve (it's based on the first 5 minutes of each hour). I've marked "Ok" the first row, meaning that since i've seen something similar, i'm confident in knowing what needs to be mastered to achieve that result. The "?" refers to what i haven't been able to understand if it's achievable or not (row 2, 3 and 4). Would it be advisable to build a Matrix for each of the 4 row (with N 8-bit microcontroller such as SN74HC595, for each row) , or can be achieved with a "simple" 4 X 60 matrix? Thanks a lot in advance to everyone "wasting" their time to give a helping hand! Seeya! Ivano

Core Skills

I've been thinking about writing on the subject of core skills and or resources that branch out to other skills and allow a person to get the most out of living, building, making etc. I think that the Instructables members have these skills in spades but there are plenty of people that look at what all of you do and think "That's cool but I could never do that". Which is the opposite of what this site is about. Now I'm saying skills but I think there are also other factors that apply. Obviously having enough time to work on projects is important but really that's a skill too, time management. Tools might be another factor, things like a Dremel tool, Sugru, etc. really open up what a person can do. I'd like to consider things like that also in this endeavor. These are the core skills I've identified, some of them seem really simple but I think they need mentioning. I'm also pretty sure a few of these are already covered by ibles. Measuring Length Checking for Level and Plumb Using a Claw Hammer Using a Sledge Hammer Identifying Screwdriver Bits Powertools - Saws (what they are best used for, describing Circular, Table, Jig, Band, Scroll, etc) Powertools - Drills (best practices, maybe identifying drill bits etc.) Powertools - Grinders (Hand, Bench, Die, etc) Reading a Multimeter (and what to do with those readings) Reading a Schematic Welding Gluing (and what kind of glue is good for different purposes) Then I got a little esoteric and thought about what it takes to accomplish projects. When to do research and when to just start doing. (Because I used to spend way to much time worrying about accumulating data on a project) How to balance projects with living your life. (Because I still have problems with that. But I do have some tips. Falls into time management.) How to find that part you're missing (I haven't really thought about this one much, but it would be great to have a thought process in place. There are likely a lot more. I admit this would be a large project to compile and may span several ibles. Do you have any input on how to accomplish this? What skills have you found to be at the core of your efforts to make things? Instructables has some real brainpower here I think if there is a group that could distill this down to something manageable it would be us.

Im just a noob here and everything, dont know all that much about electronics and stuff, but the idea of making all these little gadgets (like an altoids tin ipod you can use anywhere) seems really cool, interesting and most off all very useful. Do you guys have any ideas of how I can start to assemble a basic knowledge of like circuits and stuff and of electronics. Not adavced stuff to start off, just like if I wanted to make something like a porximity detector, or like a microphone bug (thatl send what it hears in one room to a reciever in a diff room), basic stuff like that.

High school students' lack of knowledge regarding 3D printers.

Has anyone else come upon the severe lack of knowledge about 3D printers by high school students, and possibly people in general as well? Today, my teacher announced to my art class that: "Some architects will be coming in to show us their 3D printer that they built". Then, practically every student started to say things such as: "what the hell is that?". The teacher then said that: "it's like a printer, but it prints things out in 3D". After that, one student asked: "so it like prints stuff out on paper in 3D?" So the teacher replied: "no, it prints objects out in 3D". Then, the same student asked again: "so it prints stuff out onto paper in 3D.....?". It went on like this for about 5 minutes, until the teacher got tired of explaining from her limited knowledge of 3D printers. After the teacher managed to end the conversation, I heard murmurs from the others saying things like: "I don't get it..?" and "That doesn't make any sense..". Has anyone else encountered this? (not that I'm an expert on 3D printers or anything..) Thanks -Me

Help with transformer spark (probably simple if you are knowledgeable on the subject)?

I am building this poster that is for a school project that is supposed to be about me so I decided to do it on electronics. One of the parts is a small spark that I am trying to make. The difficult thing is that I am trying to make it from a battery supply (whilst using a transformer) and that I am presenting it so the spark needs to be pretty visible and noisy. I had a wall power supply that took 120VAC and output 4VDC. I removed the output smoothing and rectifying circuitry so all I was left with was a transformer. I connected a 9v battery to what used to be the output through a pushbutton switch. Then I placed what used to be the 2 input wires (there is a center tap as well I think) close together. Upon clicking the pushbutton switch I get a spark of maybe 1mm. (the spark seems to jump when I open a previously closed switch rather than when I close it. Is there a way I can use a capacitor to get a more sustained charge? My results were faint in sound and visually. I need to present this to a room. Is there a way I can automate the switching process? I tried to use a ceramic resonator but I have little understanding of how those work since I have only used them in embedded electronics and would just align the proper pins. I am thinking about sing a 555 timer and tying the output to a transistor which would supply the transformer with 9VDC. Is there a way to get a spark from DC battery supply without a transformer? It seems like the transformer adds complication since it is made for AC. I am thinking about tying the output of my current setup (which produces a small spark) to the input of another transformer. Will this work? Will the spark become even more faint if I do this? Thanks, and I understand that I am working with HV at my own risk.

Repulsine - the great mystery...

Even before the repulsine saw some attention during WW2 there were sightings of what we know call the classic UFO shape.Be it in Austria, Poland or other places in Europe, people reported weird disk like thing with a dome flying around. What leaked in images and documents after the war shoed that the repulsine looked basically identical to what people saw as a UFO in the sky over big parts of Europe. Then again, the repulsine appearently never made it a usable stage, same for most jet fighters at the time and still they flew around...If we now just take it for granted that actual test flights really happened back then you might wonder why we did not see any after the war anymore. For most critics it is a simple sign of facts and "confirms" that the replusine might have been a nice idea but never anything that really left the ground. As said, I often like to dig deeper and in this case the digging took far more years than what I planned on.I can not provide any solid proof for the following but I am sure even a sceptic will come to similar conclusions after reading it.Try to find some "eye witness" reports from people who saw the so called "Roswell UFO".Yes the one that made Area51 so secret and famous...Reports can be boiled down to some essential features of the hull, for those who saw it proof that it is alien.Three distinct round shpes on the underside, like you add the bottom of an egg to a round disk.Said disc of the bottom was also shaped like a wing, or the flying disk toys our kids like to play with.On the other side the shape grew up like a half shphere with an added cone or round top on it.On these area they claimed to have see engine outlets or similar and appearently the top cone was spinning in another direction than the rest of the UFO.Now I am no expert for Roswell but if I leave area and time out then I could have been fooled to think these people discribed exactly the same thing people saw a few year eariel flying over Europe. The Roswell UFO was not from another world, just stolen from the looser of a really bad war. What was seen was a working Repulsine, be it an original or something the US created from the 5 prototypes that disappeared after the war.Ha, ha, good one, then why don't we saw them flying after this anymore?Well, for starters it was a testflight gone wrong.Presumable it was planned to be limited to Area51 but the pilot lost control.Considering the Nazies appearently did their best to kill everyone involved in the project before the aliies arrived it is no big surprise. What that test flight would have shown is the impossible manouvers people already witnessed over Europe.90° or more turns at full speed instead of making a turn like a plane, sudden changes in alitude as well as accelleration on a level that makes even modern rockets blush. And if it really was the first bigger testflight they did it explains the big secrecy about the Roswell incident and what followed and created Area51 as we knew it.A "weapon" capable of these things would mean total dominance and options to impove planes and more.So why did they not even do that - or did they? The repulsine was created based on what we call today fringe- or pseudo- sience. If there is only one peroson, or a few that can even understand the claimed working principles that it can't be science as we know it.So, lets take a look what things were already heavily used in the repulsine that "we" claim to have developed or discovered decades later.Coanda effect. When air travels over a surface then it will follow the surface. You can try this with paper strips and blowing on them as well as a stream of water and some shaped objects.Long known but never found any real use until the military picked it up.For example air inlets were then developed to utilise the coanda effect.Remember how a lot of them these days look like a ducted fan housing? The round and slightly conical shape of the inlet will actually act like an airfoil and provide lift - of pulls forward in the direction of the air flow direction of the engine.I supercars we use it to create more downforce and better aerodynamics.Venturi effect.Again a very old one but funny enough also a major factor to make a jet engine work.Tesla turbine. In the Repulsine the rotating copper disks acted like a huge Tesla turbine by using a similar effect. The space between the disks got smaller and smaller towards the outer perimiter.Due to the fast rotation the molecules were accelerated and this created a partial vacuum. We use these principles today for specail vacuum pumps but also in military applications.Harmonics.Without harmonics and resonance the Repulsine would have been impossible. And at a first glance it seems we never made any use from that bit of the machine. Then why do we design exhaust systems in such a way than already the extractors ensure a pump like action and controlled backflow? The sound a good exhaust makes is also based on using the harmonics created by the explosions in the cylinders and expanding gasses. We learned that it is far more efficient to use harmonics and resonance in an exhaust system from somehwere ;)Plasma. The repulsine was said to have emitted a bright glow during certain movements or speeds. To create plasma we need a lot of energy, not so much however if the plasma is a by-product anyways. We learned that a high enough voltage differencial in a vacuum can create a nice plasma arc. From there things like analog TV monitors were created. But we never made anything that creates plasma for any use in an atmosphere.Well, unless you start to check supersonic rocket engines and other things. The working principle is very, very close here in some applications like the ramjet.Vortex energy.Today we see all vortex energy stuff as a free energy scam or at best a waste of time. But from the inlet to the outlet the entire Repulsine utilised what we now know as vortex energy, vortex math and so on.The air is twisted and spun around so many times that it is hard to keep track - but it always happened in a harmonic and resonant fashion. In some way this is implepemented in very expensive cars to keep the ventilation system almost silent even at full power. If you ever take an expensive car apart you might wonder why the air system is not as smooth and straight as you would have expected to get this silence ;)There is more but the list would become too long ;)So, if the repulsine was really that great then why was it taken apart to only utilise fractions of it in other things? If you have something really great that combines a lot of things then no one would suspect if you "developed or discovered" some of it in other projects. And to give you a very bad comparison for the other way around:If you know how to combine a petrol engine with some long blades then you could fly!I know, we did that already but you get the point.I can give you a motor and blades but that would not mean you could build a plane or even helicopter! At that time and still today something like a Repulsine would upset the "balance of power".If claims are correct then the engines of the repulsine were only required to provide the enrgy for directional changes or speed but it flew on "free energy" as the main engine system. In lame words like a jumbo jet that only needs a small engine for the hydraulics and electricity...Another big problem is the replication even if you would have a complete and working model to disect. You see most parts were brazed or welded as screw or rivets would have been problematic in certain areas.Other parts like the Kudo horn like intake systems would even today pose a challenge if you want to replicate them 100% correct. And if your understanding of science and physics greatly differs from those who originally created the thing...If your understanding tells you a dice has 6 sides (we all know that) but in my understanding it would have 16 then you would never understand how my dice rolls ;)Bringing true free energy of any form into this world is only allowed if someone can still make good money from it.Just check solar cells and wind generators - we all can have them but our providers make sure they have enough of them as well ;)Will we ever see a fully working Repulsine again?Of course !Some people like old cars, some collect old planes or old machines and tools.A great project for people in the right trades is always to build thier own little steam engine. So to say as a reminder of how it all started.Same will happen with the Repulsine as the first really utilised free energy machine the world had.The war and killings were not what really scared the world. This happened and will happen over and over again to various extends.Really scary was once certain people realised what might happen if over there the war would end with a victory and people would have time to develop for peaceful things instead.Without the war or this idiot Hitler a peaceful war would have taken over the world by storm. Those making sure we know nothing else but paying for our fuel and energy would have lost their monoply.Times change though...We destroyed our world with our needs for fossil fuels and electricity. What is left we destroy by chopping it down, digging it out or just by building new estates on prime farm land.People are now more desperate then ever to find ways to reduce their energy bills or enviromental impact.Otherwise Google wouldn't make billions on all the fake free energy videos out there. But what would it take to recreate the Repulsine? The person able to come up with the understanding of at least attempting to build one again would need to have certain qualifications and titles. He or she would hold a Nodel price for completing some of our known laws of physics or for finding some of the still missing ones.It would be a quite hard to understand and like person too, maybe even highly autistic. The person would also have an addiction like need to complete things, add the missing bits. And of course a totallydifferent understanding on how nature and the universe work.David T. from England is such a person, or at least the closest mankind can offer so far.He can see math in his head as shapes and images.Complex math problems appear to him like developing landscapes in high detail. He even learned to speak icelandic fluently within 7 days!!Imagine such a person would develop an interest in the old pioneers like Schuberger, Newman, Tesla and so on?Where we normal people fail to see any relevance or connection a guy like David would be able to literally see how all these inventions and ideas connect. He would be able to SEE the math behind it!Knowing how something was supposed to work and combining what is known through patents, drawing, videos or reports would enable such a person to make conclusions. For example where we might just see a nice pattern when we throw a stone into an undsturbed lake such a person would also already know and see the corresponding math the created the waves and why they were created exactly like this.Assuming David has no real interest in such things, then is it possible others already try?Sadly yes and even worse they do it with kids.Learning methods that are different can bring great results. For example while we use a calculator for big numbers some kids attend really strict and performance based classes to do this with an ancient abacus! After years of hard and often painful training they are able to it with a small abacus that only has a single row of discs.Shortly after they graduate to a virtual abacus - they only twitch their fingers in the same motions they would use on the real thing, but the disks and rods are all just visualised in their heads. That however is all meant as an improvement and the kids do it because they want to and not because they are forced to.Like learning to be a chess champion before even being old enough to work...In china however we have a very selective education program.Kids are not just trained slightly different to our kids but also closely monitored on their progress. As soon as one stands out for some skill it is subject to examination.Being well above average here means it is an opportunity for the kid and the parents - on paper at least. We in the western world would see it as a viscious circle though.Over the years china developed not only a better understanding of how these special kids brains actuall do their things but also how to create tests for this purpose. What looks like impossible or nonsense to most kids will trigger a scecific response and understand in those that are special. We would create something that allows parents to know early on where the kid has really good skills and what activities should be promoted. In china though the parents receive a nicer flat or some additional income while kids are send to a far away school.Again we would refer to such a school more as a boot camp.Discipline is at least on military levels, same is the punishment system. In most cases families are not reunited for many years, phone or even video calls only happen in the rare times when western TV crews are allowed a sneak peak.I just say: If a kid would see the parents often enough then it would not only know what to talk about but also be happy to talk to them - this however you won't see.It is like they talk to some distant uncle or such. What is really scary though is how these kids are trained to see their purpose and how important it is to be the best in what they do.Imagine you lost your kid at an early age and the only thing you got over the year was letters from the government saying how well it is doing and that you can be proud of it.Then it graduates and you are not even allowed to be there on that day...After that the kid is gone for good, you get a new flat and your proud kid supports you with some nice extra income. You don't get to know where it is working, what it is doing or if it might just be attending some university.By any standards these graduated kids can be seen as a great number of genius young people.Math, music, languages, science, you name it and they will have the experts aged below 20 for it.But what do they do once school is finnished and life starts? So far no reporter or family was able to figure it out.Means they don't appear in some high profile company, they don't start a successful business or teach at any public or private school.I leave it up to your imagination where thausands of kids find secret employment once they graduated....If, at least in theory we could be able to understand all these old technologies then why don't we at least try?Everyone has a goal, some desire a happy family and nice house, other need fame or just money to be happy. With that comes greed. You might have a really nice car but that does not mean you would give to some neighbour for a trip.Even if it just a nice rose garden, you might not want to share the views with anyone. This is true on all levels and we created a term for it "Need to know basis".If you just operate a press in a factory then you don't need to know when or what the next job is that comes for your press. You will know when it arrives and can check the documents attached. You don't need to know that your council is expanding and it is only seen as a courtesy to let you know on some notice board or in the local newspaper. And even our government does the same. What we do from the first days of our new baby we do on all other levels in the same way. What the baby does not need to know we won't tell or show. But we provide all the littly anklebiter needs to develop and be happy.Changing nappies, feeding, proving comfort when sick or having a nightmare.Later we teach language and other skills like walking. It goes on as you know...Humanity as a whole is like a little kid as well.If we would know all the little, dirty secrets then we would riot and go mad.Things that are of no concern are nothing we need to worry about, so we don't get to know them either.Knowing how build the latest fighter jets is seen as a thing that would give a possible enemy an advantage.Makes a lot of sense to everyone as these things might have to protect us one day.The questions that remain are:If humainty is a child, then how old are we now or when do we graduate? If there is a collection of secret and old knowledge then who owns and controls it?What would it take to force the release of all the things people actually created for a better world and not to be locked away?As funny as it might sound but one answer to all these questions would be to do nice orund trip in your Repulsine.Fly over ever single country in this world.Let their guided missle and what not chase you and once enough show then how quickly you can make a 180° turn to get behind them.So called unimportant countries might ignore you and the people only enjoy a nice show. Those powerful enough will fear you and think it was "the other side" showing their superiority.Once done with your round they all will have to realise there is a new power that is at the helm now: Knowledge and understanding. No more secrets, a repulsine for everyone who wants the plans to build one.A new world would start.Ever thought about that when wondering why all these "Aliens" we see in their ships in our skies never land to say hello ? ;)Even if they would be Aliens and not just some human pilot in some experimental craft:Shouldn't this demonstration of absolute power and control without any violence tell us something? The Repulsine need to come back to life to end all this UFO nonsense and Alien theories out there. You hear the sounds, see the ligh show and impossible abilities. And suddenly most if not all UFO sightings would have a common factor again.Just because the Repulsine is claimed to be lost and that it never actually worked despite film evidence showing the opposite does not mean there is no one using the technology.A working Repulsine available to everyone would also kill the doubt on so many other old inventors and "fringe" scientists.Science and physics would need to be redifined as would be able to find a lot of missing links.I know there is not only a lot of people out there trying to get what they can about the Repulsine but also that there are others who try to prevent this. You have a really easy time getting permission examine some old and histrically important artefact from a museum than getting just a hands on approch for what remains of the Repulsine in various places. Not even decent 3D scans will be allowed.Anything like just getting a tiny pipe cam inside is rejected with the excuse it could cause damage. If the thing is a hoax and never worked then why would it be so important to never touch or move it? ;)I recently got word that two of the remaining Repulsine "artefacts" were examined by the same group of "scientists".This happened in the late 80's and said scientists were claimed to have had acces to a collection of spare parts for the original Repulsine that was lost after the war.A private collector was also mentioned who denied all access but what he had in a secure storage facility appearently disappeared shortly after his refusal.Putting all the dots and hints together it would mean that someone in the late 80's was able to get literally everything that is left of the project in his hands. Those who claimed to have seen these scientists working on the Repulsine leftovers claim they used top notch technology to do so, including 3D scanners - and those were basically imossible to get back then for any uni out there...The laptops used were said to use touchscreens and were connected to all sorts of equippment. And they did it in almost total silence, like a group who studied a performance many times and knew exactly what do when and where without the need of many words.Professional in examining something unknown all all possible levels.I was unable to get any information on these scientist or who they worked for.But if you are one of them and readin this then I would love to hear from you!

Ancient technologies revisited - ancient "GPS"

This part is more theoretical but might be interesting anyway. To make this topic any interesting to you I have to assume you play with the idea of "alien" having visited earth in the past.If we check UFO sightings and map them like a nice man did for decades, then we find a weird thing appearing on a global map.It seems as if these UFO sightings are concentrated in various locations along a "grid".Some of this grid is the Ley Line system, a weak system of "lines" where certain energies act differently or where certain fields are detectable.Won't go into the magical part or why so many townships along those lines have names related to starts or constellations.Another part of the anicient GPS system is anomalies our earth provides, be it natural or "created" in the far distant past.I got interest after finding social media posts about an area claiming to have a messed up gravity in a very small area.Less than 100km away, so a nice bike ride with some testing stuff and off I went.Seeing a car appearing to roll uphill or balls seemingly doing the same is one thing, trying it yourself another.I did not notice any differences in weight or how the bike handled but I got a very weird "optical illusion" trying to tell my up is going down and the other way around.Did it in both directions several times with no change in this impression - even when focussing only on the spot in front of my wheel.time to invesigate further and to debunk some flaws other people made.Like how useless it is to use a self levelling laser level to "prove" nothing is wrong with gravity. If it is, then how would a self levelling device, depinding on gravity know? ;)Instead I did it dirt simple.Neon strings hung from lots of tree branches and twigs. If gravity is going nuts then those strings outside the affected area would hang at a different angle than the rest - they did not....Not even from a great distance, all just hanging perfectly straight and at the exact same angle.Ok, then, just an optical illusion due to the terrain after all....Last but not least I remembered my phone claims to have a gravity sensor and my watch has an altimeter and other sensors...The sensor test app did show some fluctuations but not any different to home or other places I tried.A bit more but IMHO not enough to justify any conclusion. However, my watch confused me.From what appeared to the bottom of Gravity Hill to the top I guesstimated a height difference of about 15m.My watch insisted every single time that when I reached the "top" that I was about 10m lower than at the bottom....Was a fun afternoon but I was no wiser in the end.Gravitational, magnetic and even geoligical anomalies are well mapped these days, same for undergroud lakes and water basins. Most of this data reached us from dedicated sensors on satellites in low earth orbit. If we have no troubles mapping them then it is safe to assume that a civilisation capable of inter stellar flight would be even more capable. And after god knows how long we finally even can measure the Ley Lines and no longer assume they are magical myths. All up it makes for very accurate system of navigation beacons that you can detect even if you approach on the night side. And since these locations on our continental soil as well as our ocean floors don't really change their positions it is highly accurate. If we say it is possible to use what earth, more or less naturally, provides to located any spot you like while still approaching earth from space - then what about more specific "markers"?We have the great wall, the pyramids, lines up stones from the stone age and then some things visible from space once you are in a good orbit. The ancient cities were often in what it today and already was back then, jungle. They must have stood out the same was as the pyramids - as huge clearings in the jungle with massive buildings. We also have all these nice animal figures in Peru.Too big to make sense from the ground, wrong angles to make sense from a great distance, unless you see them from above, or from orbit. All this was long shown to be coincidence, nothing to worry about or waste time on.But we learned this is not the case at all.The pyramids perfectly line up with the Bermuda triangle and ancient cites on the other side of the pond. From England to Rome you have a dead straight Ley Line and far too many are sitting right on top with unusal names.Attempts have been made over and over to use these existing references to find lost cities and more, quite often with success. We are very reluctant though to explore those signs pointing to the oceans...Finding just one of the mythical cities at a sea level matching the time period would mean that not just that myth might be true....I am not claiming I cracked the puzzle, just in case you wonder...Basically all ancient cities have mathy around them linking then to the gods, people from the stars.Even our cities following the Ley Lines are filled with these stories, be it the anient Greek, Romans or the great Kingdoms in Europe - the later all had their main residences right on the Ley line, some even on nodal points.Merlin was a great Wizard - or just some visitor with a far higher technology and knowledge of science...A very nice but somewhat very wrong theory claims the pyramids were actually build as huge power plants. You even find stories where it is (totally correct by the way!) calculated they could have been used as giant microwave transmitter to power starships in orbit like a recharge station....If that was the case then all identical pyramids, in terms of dimension would have been the same type of power station.Sadly they all seem to have only astronomical functions.Stonehenge is different, Rome is different, a lot of the old cities and temples are different. The thing common in all locations is Granite or even Diorite.Quarz is also heavy used in these locations throught ancient times. What do these materials have in common? For starters they are so hard, so durable that we struggle to work with them today unless we use diamond tipped tools.Even most carbide tools fail on Diorite...Secondly the fact they all have rather specific and organised crystalline structures. In some Indian temples this is even used to produced accurate and harmonic musical notes. If you want to build something that is certain to outlast your civilisation then you would choose these materials.Never mind the fact that the people in that time had no means to even scratch these hard rocks....A rather unusal approach to the problem started only less than 2 decades ago.Trying to measure more than dimensional properties of these creation, specifically these huge obelisk type "needles" of often hundret of tons in weight.Of course they could not really often use the real thing and to make do with smaller models they created.Key point was to match the exact type of rock from the same region as the big original, plus making sure the crystal structure is aligned in the same orientation. These guys first dicovered that these rock needles resonated at very specific acoustic frequencies.Nothing for most the spectrum but a very sharp amplitute amplification with little to no added harmonics for just a few tight frequencies. And yes, the max "elogation" was along the lenght of the needle with the tip acting almost like a resonator. The second and rather unexplainable thing was that these model sized needles also reacted to audi signals that did not came from a surface actuator but a normal speaker at close proximity.Did not stop them, just encourage them.It was not specified in the publication what higher band frequencies affected the rock but they claimed it acts like a high power amplifier for certain frequencies - with no detectable way where the excess energy comes from.If true it could mean that a lot of ancient structures we consider to be decorative could have actually been more like a lighthouse.Emitting a focussed beam of energy detectable from amost any approach angle when enterin our solar system. The thing you might now wonder about is: Why would highly advance civilisations need such beacons to begin with? This answer relates to the Apollo program - the Van Allen radiation belt, and some other strange things close to earth. The most significant other thing is our Ionosphere.Togeher they make radio transmissions next to impossible, only close to earth orbite, like where our satellites reside are in good enough reach.A long claim was that only certain frequencies can pass through these interference layers without losing too much energy or being distorted. Most of our planets emit a natural low frequency RF "signal".We can't detect them from earth though and used satellites and probes to measure and define them.Tesla's famous alien message was decades later calculated aginst these movements in regards to his location.Turned out he detected not aliens but the signals from two of our planets. Now this might be no big deal, I mean knowing it was not aliens after all, but it is in fact a huge deal!Tesla's receiver was only able to work in these impossible low frequencies that were claimed to be unable to pass through our interference layers!Much later we dicovered windows in these layers, even ways to caculate and predict their movements. It is now widely used to improve communications with our space probes and Mars missions. We still don't know if a suitable window was present for Tesla...If ancient civilisations or the gods visiting us for a while needed a way "to call home" or be called - what better way than using was is naturally there already? And it work the other way around as well.Send a strong enough and suitable signal to these structures and they would have to respond, maybe even in some audible form, no one really knows for sure it seems. My personal theory in terms of navigation and transmitting/receiving energy goes as follows and I hope you like it enough to make you own thought and conclusions:If we simply assume that certain anomalies or natural energies on earth are not just detectable but also usable it all could get a whole new meaning.Place a suitable object into an energy field and it can act as a "filter", an amplifier or as block.Like a Yagi antenna that you might find on your roof. What happens if have a theoretically endless conductor with a high frequency voltage going through? You have a very bad antenna of no use...But if you would place straight wires with a length matching the frequency you get a ton of small and powerful antennas....A bit simplyfied, I know but best example that came to mind to make a transition. If our Ley Lines and other form of natural energy phenomenon would provide energy to these ancient structures:What might happen if this "antenna" is just slightly out of tune and you "strike" it to produce a harmonic wave matching the energy going through?Right! You suddenly have a giant signal amplifier. And right again! You could actually try to send "signals" through the Ley Lines this way too.A harmonic wave would overlay the natural signal from the Ley Line and travel along it's path. Now the part you might not like at all, but it a key point of my own theory:If it is a natural energy that provides all this and we are able these days to detect these energies although we fail to understand, then where to they originate????If you poke your arm with a neeles then it hurts, poke a bit more and you bleed once you remove the needle, no one would do this for fun or even to get pleasure...Then why do we poke needles into our body, call it accupuncture and go home with such a happy face once the pain is gone???Guess you got my point already...It can't be denied that ancient civilisations already had a more than good understanding of things we onlydicovered or proved to exist thausands of years later.Even if we would exclude all godly and alien like things and just be ignorant and say that these folks knew the "body" earth" as good as a chinese accupuncture master would know your body and where to poke a few needles to heal you?If the energies are natural than our planet must produce them somehow, if you know how changes affect the planet you can "poke" it to get better - or to get much worse....Like the Butterfly Effect....You poke needle into Spain and in New Zealand you get a small earth quake....You poke a needle into Iceland and a temperature drop over atlantic makes the deveolping hurricane change curse to run out of steam over the ocean. You poke a needle into the right spot, stimulated properly and send a signal into outer space....If we can detect them easy from space, how strong would the energy level be if a burst of ALL the energy travels along the grid to combine in one single point?...How far could such a signal travel? How FAST would it travel considering no one, not even NASA dared to publish details about how exactly and what exactly was detected that matches these ancient old and till then just mystical energy lines and spots?A gravitational shockwave from an exploding star travels much faster than light....The ancient cultures of meaning knew exactly:Where the sun is in our milkyway, where our planets are at any giving time,at what angle our planets axis is, they even tracked this accurately, where exactly until recently unknown stars are within the Orion, Sirius and other constallations, when those stars where visible in the DAY or NIGHT sky,how exactly they moved when moved from earth AND how the position of earth relates the other way around, that there are Ley Lines, gravitational anomalies and more that we only learned to detect thausands of years later, about ALL the phsical, electrical and energy related properties of of suitable rocks and minerals,.....If they knew all this and we know that they did, why is so hard to believe they would have to have known that for a good reason, a purpose?I actuall don't care if they found all out themself, without knowing the wheel or the telescope...Neither if aliens, gods, people from the stars, visitors from another dimension or E.T. himself (herself, itself?) told them. But I cared for a long time about WHY humanity as a whole seemed to have forgotten all about his and how to use these unknown energies....So the final bit is not about my personal theories on ancient navigation, communication or energy usage. It is about the why it was lost...I make it a new chapter if you don't mind as it is not really about the GPS topic.

Can I use knowledge I've aquired through the internet, etc. for free for a business?

I was thinking of starting to earn a little money by making custom computers, etc.  However, most or all of my knowledge of how to do things like this has come from places like Instructables, eHow.com, the local library, my friends, etc.  I was wondering if it is legal and ethical to make money using knowledge from these sources.  Recommendations and opinions are welcome.  Thanks! P.S.  I apologize for any spelling/grammatical errors--I recently broke my wrist, and since typing is quite inconvenient in a cast, have tried to get my message across with as little typing or backspacing as could be managed.

How do you all become so knowledgeable about electric and computer technologies?

Circuits and semiconductors and transistors and capacitors all confuse and intimidate me so... :-\ I want to know how to turn a walkie-talkie into a communication jammer like in Fringe or create an X-ray machine from an old tube TV like in Burn Notice. Ultimately I'd like to become an FBI agent or CIA spy, but I've gotta start somewhere, so asking how to do electrical engineering on Instrutables is the first place to start I'd imagine.

do you think we could produce energy with a crystal by using knowledge of atoms and compounds and reactions???

I remmember seeing something on T.V. about an ancient civilization using crystals to power thier technology which happened to be very advanced (maybe atlantis?). i was wondering if it would be possible by studying reactions of atoms and molecules withing crystals to find one that if large enough could power something such as a levitaion device (perhaps create a crystal using certain compounds and manipulating atoms and molecules.) perhaps study the reaction of humans and crystals (we conduct arua and other things) i dunno. i wanted to see what other minds would think of how crystals could conduct energy to power a certain technology. please don't worry about critisism and let your mind flow free.

INSTRUCTABLE COMMUNITY! see if one of your instructables can help someone in a developing nation. Building for a good cause!

I saw this website called honeybee, Anyone who likes to solve problems using everyday things or inventing new things. Check this out This is a list of problems people have in developing nations they need help building constructing and recycling tools and machines to help them in there everyday lives, I have read them and i think the inscrutable community could really help there cause. take a look see if you made something that they need. http://www.sristi.org/hbnew/seeking_solution.php video about it http://www.ted.com/talks/anil_gupta_india_s_hidden_hotbeds_of_invention.html here's there about us   WHO ARE WE? Honey Bee Network is a crucible of like-minded individuals, innovators, farmers, scholars, academicians, policy makers, entrepreneurs and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). A Network having presence in more than seventy five countries, what has made Honey Bee Network tight knit and efficiently functional is its philosophy. Honey Bee signifies a philosophy of discourse, which is authentic, accountable and fair. The Network has been woven around three basic ideals. The Network believes that a knowledge system in order to become sustainable has to be both just and fair. Hence, while collecting knowledge from the knowledge holder, the Network has made it a norm to acknowledge the knowledge provider with name and reference, if otherwise not desired by the knowledge provider. This particular practice has come handy in protecting the IPR of the knowledge provider. In the second place, the source of knowledge i.e. in the case of Honey Bee Network, the traditional knowledge holders and grassroots innovators must be acknowledged, if otherwise desired so by the knowledge holders themselves. Finally, any proceed that accrues from the value addition of local traditional knowledge and innovation; a fair and reasonable share must go back to the knowledge holders. These have been the guiding principles of the Network, which are fundamental to the functioning of the network and constitute the major non-negotiable for the Network. WHAT ARE WE DOING? Over the last sixteen years or so, the Honey Bee Network has lived the very spirit of the philosophy that it holds so dearly. Moreover, the actions that have followed the philosophy have grown and matured over a period of time and their trajectory of maturation has been based upon the strong realization of the essence of the philosophy. ‘Honey Bee’ Newsletter, the creative mouthpiece of the network, is published in seven Indian languages (Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Oriya) other than English. The very logic tells that any documentation and dissemination of local and traditional knowledge and innovations in English, certainly connects us globally but alienates locally. Living out the concern, the regional language versions reach out to the thousands grassroots knowledge holders, who otherwise would have been alienated from the benefits of knowledge, they themselves contribute in the first place. Acknowledging the very source of the traditional knowledge, the Honey Bee Newsletter and its regional versions carry stories of the local ingenuity with the consent of the knowledge holder. Another source of acknowledging the local genius has been preparing the database of the traditional knowledge and grassroots innovations and Honey Bee Network, over the last twenty years has documented more than 1,00,000 ideas, innovations and traditional knowledge practices. Honey Bee, true to its metaphor, has been the source of pollination and cross-pollination of ideas, creativity and grassroots genius, without taking away the nectar from the flower for ever.

I need to do a report on the rules, regulations, and everything about how to play cricket. Any knowledge or websites??

The report needs to be a How-To speech on playing cricket. Basically how to be safe when playing, what stores to get it from, what equipment you need, and how to play and understand the game. It has to be 5-6 minutes long which means it has to be brief but make the audience understand fully by the time I'm done. Any help would be most awesome. thanks

Has anyone any knowledge of whether the Richard T LaPiere Poll experiement has been updated since 1930?

In 1930,  Richard T. LaPiere deomonstrated that, at least in some areas of life, people did not always DO what they said they did,  nor did they always "believe" what they said they did.  He took some friends of his on a trip across the USA;  they were of Chinese decent, but spoke unbroken English.  They were turned away from only one establishment out of hundreds.  Detailed records were kept of everything that happened on the trip.  Once home, he "polled" these same hotels and found that, except for a VERY few (one to be exact and one abstained) all of them said they would NOT harbor someone of Chinese decent in their hotel. To make sure the trip itself had not influenced the owners,  he polled places he had not gone and got the same results.   No one would say they would accept them in their establishment.  Remember, this was 1930.   This throws out an interesting dynamic.  If people generally do not do what they claim they will do (for whatever reasons.....) then polls and questionaires are not really worth very much. Anyone know of any updated studies on this subject?
