CO2 land mine.

I have a great idea for a paint mine. If anybody has suggestions please tell me. Its my first. The reason I need help with this is because I have people Sneaking up in my tree fort at night and either want to shoot them with a BB (preferred) or soak them in paint. I like both. But I just want some suggestions on this. I am including the mine sketchup file in this post along with a pic. Thanks, Mike

A Giant Lands at Heathrow

The Airbus A380 has landed at Heathrow - it's first commercial flight to the UK.It is huge!24 metres high, 73m long, 80m wide - potentially carrying over 800 passengers, but instead they've installed enormous business class seat/beds, and first class passengers have their own rooms.Even it's economy-class seats are two inches wider and longer than a jumbo's.Yet they claim that it is more fuel efficient in terms of fuel per passenger per mile than an SUV such as a Rangerover!BBC news storyVideo - landing at Heathrow> Watch the wings sag as the wheels take the weight!Video - a tour inside the A380Video - on board during the flight to the UKMeet the man who's hobby is flying on the A380. Minecraft Server: Land of Arcania

Land of Arcania The Land or Arcania server is a small, whitelisted community playing on a custom map. The server will be vanilla for the players, but there will be plugins protecting the server spawn, as it took a long time for me to build. There will be 15 slots but we will accept probably a few more than that. Myself and the fellow admins will do our best to play legit and with the other players on the server and help them do projects such as an enderman or blaze farm. A couple rules before going to submit an application... 1) No griefing, this is a friendly community and it doesn't make sense to destroy someone else s work.  2) No stealing, however minor pranks are allowed. Use your best  judgement 3) Obey the admins, we won't ask much but if we need you to test someone, please do it. 4) Please spread out, if you wish to live with a friend that is fine. There is a lot of space in the map, use it. 5) The map has terrain very different from a normal minecraft world, be careful if you die we won't retrieve your things 6) I worked hard to make the world look natural, please keep it like that. No halfway cut down trees. Also, don't build near spawn 7) No climbing on the masts 8) Pvp is allowed. However it is really only meant for fooling around or maybe dueling to see who gets those diamond you two found. 9) Have fun! Probably the most generic rule, but really we didn't make this server to bore you. 10) To prove you read the rules, if you wish to submit an application please include the word caterpillar somewhere in it. 11) NO hacks, x-ray, modded clients or anything that would give you an advantage. To submit an application: Copy/paste the questions into a comment and fill them out. If you have been accepted you will be Pm'ed a message saying the IP. If you have not been accepted, you probably will not hear back. Please answer the question to the best of your ability. IGN {In game name}: Age: How long have you been playing minecraft: Why should I pick you: How could the server benefit from having you on it: Would you help enjoy helping in community projects: Why do you want to play on this server: A brief description of yourself: Note: Those are REAL screenshots of about 1% of the entire map

Anti-Land Mine Robot

I have started design and concept design on a robot to mark (via GPS and UV paint) and destroy unexploded ordinance in Cambodia.  I am assembling teams for various aspects of the project (mechanical, electronics/power, practical application, coding and programming, construction, etc).  While many people have offered their experience and knowledge, the more people contributing can only benefit the end product.  This is not a money-maker, it's a life sustainer.  I'm looking for people who are interested in using their skills to better someone else's existence.   Though it is brand new, you can visit the project's blog at http://antiminebot.wordpress.com/   All advice is welcomed.  Project updates will be regular. Thank you for your time, Huck

Update: Help Needed- Land Mine

This is kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing, but an idea for an airsoft land mine just popped into my head. I already own a land mine, but it is horribly ineffective. It shoots baking soda barely an inch off the ground. People easy claim they did not get hit, and it's hardly realistic. I could use your help building this. I only came up with a design, but not how get it to actually work. The *crudely drawn* design is below; it involves the unwitting victim stepping on a pressure sensitive plate. This plate triggers four air cannons buried in the ground loaded with baking powder and BBs. This hopefully blasts out in a much more realistic and impressive burst, and the victim knows they are dead. Any ideas on how to get it working? Here's another idea: make it spring powered. Saves the hassle of trying to build an air compressor. Place a spring in a pipe, attach it to a locking mechanism that releases when stepped on, place a platform on the spring. It would be kind of like a piston. (See second *crudely drawn* schematic.) It's ALIVE!. I made the switch to spring powered, and the prototype worked! It shoots BBs 28 feet and baking soda about 4 feet. Now I need to improve it and make an Instructable.

Time & space: A dimensional discussion

Would anyone care to discuss the forth dimension of space? I have included a little Paint drawing I made. The "box" drawn as we would see a 3-D glass blox. and a 2-D world of Flatland. In this world, we demonstrate that the inability to turn their heads (left or right) prevents them from seeing the 3rd dimension directly, but that a shadow cast by the dimension, would be seen, either on the box itself or on the ground. A number of illustrations of how we might see a four dimensional cube are included. The last one is how it might appear if it was unfolded from itself. If this is indicative of reality, what conclusions might we draw from this?

Best Government

I have always thought that a localist, complete democracy with communist economic system was superior.  The countries' sizes would be similar to counties in the USA (30-40 miles across), because every area is different and requires different laws.  Every human of age would have one vote in all matters.  A number of people would be hired, like congressmen, to vote on trivial things that the rest of the population doesn't care to vote on, but members of that group would have no more say-so than anyone else.  Laws would be written up by lawyers commissioned by citizens, and would be added to the next ballot if a predetermined number of signatures was obtained petitioning for it. Instead of buying things with money and being paid for work, workers would be given cards (like Drivers' Licenses) that allow them an amount of food and luxuries. In order to ensure that people do all the jobs that need to be done, a sliding pay scale would exist.  Job categories would be ranked in importance by periodic votes, and ranked in terms of positions filled by computer (if there are not enough farmers practicing, the ranking for farmers would go up).  Votes to determine importance of jobs would be done by occupations as wholes (farming would get one vote, clerks would get on vote, etc. in order to prevent jobs with the most people from voting themselves most important)  In this system, the most important jobs that have the lowest worker-to-necessary-worker ratio would get 50% more luxury entitlements than people with the least-important, most-practiced jobs.  Every worker would get the same amount of food, based on number of dependents.  People who could not work due to temporary or permanent disability would be given a special card that allows food, and fewer luxuries than full-time workers, and would need to be renewed periodically, to be sure that holders actually cannot work.  People who have lost their jobs would be issued a temporary unemployment card that allows them food and few luxuries while they look for a job.  They must demonstrate that they have been looking for a job to the best of their ability to keep their card.  Students would be allowed food and the smallest amount of luxuries, and their education would be free.  Standards for workers would be determined by popular vote. While each country would only be county-sized so that it can do what is best for itself, all the countries would be part of a United Nations style meeting that mediates to prevent war and puts regulations across all the countries. So, what do y'all think the best way is?  Please be wordy.

How to answer my land phone from my Android smartphone using Bluetooth or Ethernet? Answered

Hello, guys! For academic purposes, I want to develop a solution so that I can answer my land phone directly from my smartphone when I'm at home close to the land phone, so, no Internet or other kind of long-distance communication here. Imagine a scenario where I'm at home, the land phone rings and I have the call information on my smarphone and I'm able to answer or reject it directly from my smartphone. I know the phone carriers offer services called "Follow me" that will redirect the call to my cell phone if it rings a few times and no one answers it, but, that's not what I mean. I want to answer the call on my smartphone as if it were an extension of the land phone. Two ideas came up to my mind, but I'm not sure I could make any of them work. 1- I thought of using some microcontroller like Arduino or something to hack the phone and somehow work as a bridge between the land phone and my smartphone via an Android application using bluetooth or a Wi-Fi ethernet connection. 2- I also thought of using a cordless phone base and capture the RF signals with my Arduino and make it route the call to my smartphone, so that it would ring when the land phone receives a call. If you guys think none of my thoughts would be viable, I would accept any kind of suggestions, even the most weird ones involving interconnection between multiple and heterogeneous devices, hardwares, softwares, technologies, etc. Thanks in advance!

NASA Crash lands on the moon for scientific reasons

Is there a formula for calculating the evaporation of water on dry land? Answered

I have pigs and during the summer they get hot. I've tried misters and timer controlled sprinklers but neither suited my needs, the pigs either got ahold of the mister line and ripped it down or i just forgot to head out and turn it on and off, and the sprinkler on a timer was never right, on hot days it underwatered leaving the pen dry and dusty which is unpleasent for the pigs and on cold days it overwatered leaving the pen a muddy mess which was also unpleasant for the pigs (contrary to popular belief pigs actually don't like mud its just something cool for them to roll in and natural sunscreen. Pigs would much rather have clear water raining down on them). I decided I'm going to make a simple Arduino controlled pig sprinkler. I'm going to equip it with a temperature and humidity sensor and I want it to plug the data it gets into a formula which calculates how long it will take for the water to evaporate, it will then take that data and use it to calculate the time in between sprinkler runs. But the obvious dilemma here is I cant seem to find a formula which will work. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch.            Harry88

Where can I buy cheap land and legally live in a tent or yurt full-time?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a state or town in the US where I could buy a small, cheap piece of land and legally live in a tent or a yurt full-time? I really didnt even know where to begin looking for advice on this....So Im hoping some awesome person on this website will have ideas. These are the things I am more specifically looking for: I would like to move to an area that doesn't get much (if any) snow. I would like to buy no more then about 5 acres in the woods somewhere, and do NOT need utilities or buildings, and I would be fine living on logged land and possibly "problem land". The land would have to have access by road...And preferably no further then 30-40 minutes from a town. Oh, and I won't live in Florida. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know! Thank you!! Ryan

British Land Speed Recod Was a Breeze, Thrashes US Record.

On the morning of March 26th, on the dry Lake Ivanpah, The Ecotricity Greenbird driven by British engineer, Richard Jenkins smashed the world land speed record for wind powered vehicles. The Greenbird clocked 126.1 mph (202.9 km/h) , eclipsing the old, American held, record of 116 mph , set by Bob Schumacher in the Iron Duck in March 1999 at the same location. The fully-composite craft (the only metal is in some of the bearings) used a solid wing to reach speeds up to five times that of the actual wind. The wing also provides unwanted lift, so it uses the same downthrust technology as F1 cars - at speed, the 600kg car presses down on the salt-flats with a force of almost 10,000N.Greenbird website.

The Land Where Death is Illegal (Update: even for my Dad!)

There are weird laws, and then there are Norwegian laws! The government of Norway's Svalbard Islands have made it illegal to die there. Dude plans to jump from a plane and land on his belly. Really.

Jeb Corliss has leaped from buildings and other places in a single bound. Now, he plans to do it without the aid of a parachute.Corliss, who is a base jumper, has made jumps in 16 countries and five contents, more than 1,000 in all, from the likes of the Eiffel Tower and Golden Gate Bridge. His latest venture is trying to jump from a helicopter and land without using a parachute.Corliss says he’ll wear a wing suit, which makes him look like a flying squirrel. He plans to landing on a specially designed runway he designed. It will cost up to $2 million. Once he gets the funding for his project, he says it could take up to four months to actually pull off.He added, “A wing suit, basically, is fabric that goes between your arms and between your legs and it changes the shape of your body. So you become, in essence, a flying squirrel.'He explains that he plans to land on his belly, suggesting, "œImagine an aircraft. Aircraft don't land on their tails, they land on their bellies. That's exactly what I'm gonna become. I'm gonna become an aircraft. I'm gonna be landing on my belly. Why in the world would Corliss try this?"œI wouldn't say I'm doing this because I'm a thrill-seeker. I'm a person who has dreams and my life is based on making those dreams come true. And that's what I focus on."

Any tips or tricks to obtain free or buy cheap land in the pacific northwest ?

I'd like to give up the silicon valley and move on my own land somewhere that is suitable for an off the grid cabin/year round home. Ideal land would be suitable for small family sized garden, be near fresh water and not be a total snow pile like in klamath falls in the winter. 2000 feet above sea level or lower would also be ideal for what I'm looking for. But I'm sure others might like to know how other people have gone off the grid without having to save money for 20 years just to get there.

Digital Conversion of Folding Camera?

Ever since i saw the 'ible on converting a land camera to take 35 mm film, I figured there had to be a way to take this even further. I'm even thinking the first baby step shouldn't be too hard- simply mounting a digital camera to the frame. Now, it would be a little more complex than this- taking the lcd screen off of the base, and putting it on the back of the camera, mounting the actual machinery of the camera where the original lens was, and perhaps even mounting buttons (or on some digital cameras, the wheels for 'scene selection' on the base of the land camera. The only problem I can find with this simple conversion is the fact that it seems most digital cameras use micro ribbons now, which would be (as far as I can tell) incredibly hard to splice and extend (which would be necessary to get the lcd screen, and other components mounted on the frame of the land camera). Does anyone have any ideas for this, or are is my goal too lofty? THanks.

How can I age new fabric which is glued to an old land yachting sail? Answered

My study association builds land yacht for own use. One of them, which was broken and outdated, recently is renovated such that it can be displayed next to the room of the board of the study association.  The sail we use for it is an original DN ice-yacht sail about 40 years old. For the looks we, and our faculty mechanical engineering, decided we should add logo's of our association and the TU/e on the sail. This is done, but now rises the problem. The new logo's/letters don't look right, way to young. How can we age the new fabric to the correct looks?
