Custom Latex Masks Made

Hi, I am offering my services to custom make and paint any custom latex masks you would like. Will just cost the materials to make the mold and the first mask. I will post you your mask, and give you an estimation of how long it will take to complete, making a decent mask takes time so dont expect to have it in a couple of weeks, I have to do this in my spare time and i like to take my time to make the best sculpt i can before i put any plaster on to make a mold. -------update------ 19-09-2012 if your intrested in having a mask made pop me an email chris@chrisfrydesign.com your likely to get a quicker reply via email than commenting on here ;-) have a look at my instructable on making masks using 2 part molds which should give you some idea of the costs and time scales involved. https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-Latex-Mask-with-a-2-part-mold/ --------------------------------- Ok i have been asked a few times can I make masks of actual people, the answer is that I prefer not to, replicating a human face for me is very tricky, having said that, a spitting image style replica shouldnt be too much of an issue. http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00427/spitting_image3_682_427439a.jpg how long would it take? the answer is between 1 and a half to 2 months depending on the size and complexity. How much would it cost? Hard to say again it depends on the size and complexity but remember you would be paying for a one off mask and your asking because you either dont have the skills to do it or the patients or the time, so if your expecting a mask for £20 (gbp) think again, no one is going to work their ass off producing something which takes a long time to create for a small amount of money, the materials alone are very expensive, please remember this when you email me and I qoute for your mask.

Where to get latex foam

This is sort of a follow up of my past question (https://www.instructables.com/answers/Good-foam-to-make-swords-out-of-nerf-sword-style/). I think I know what kind of foam I need: latex foam. Now I need to know where to get it, though. Anyone know? Home depot? Michaels? Amazon? Some specialty store online?

working with closed cell foam

I am making a clown prop. I have a pair of dry wall stilts that I have attatched closed cell foam to and carved into the shape of bare feet. It was my entent to coat the foam with liquid latex for durability. The foam when shaped and sanded left undesirable open pores, I next filled the pores with flexable latex caulk and then started coating with the liquid latx. I am not happy with the results I am getting, the foam is still to bumpy and the added weight of the caulk may be a problem. I am contemplating starting over with another product. I know that foam board used in the housing industry would be easer to sand smooth, and is there a differant coating that would be easer to apply. Thanks Rick "Locco"

How can I purify mineral oil?

My early experiments with oil-cooling my PC lead to some chemical *discoveries* The first was mineral oil will dissolve latex rubber.  I was using surgical tubing to pump the oil to the radiator and after a day the tubes had softened and swollen so much they wouldn't stay attached to the pump.  That and the oil turned an ugly yellow. (* the second was warm oil reacts with PVC, and causes the insulation on usb cables to become brittle) I'm working on the next gen of the project and I'd like to clean up the oil, but I can't quite google my way to a solution. I have filtered the oil (removed all the bugs) though a coffee filter, and a couple of paint filters, I don't have any reason to believe the rubber is suspended and filterable, but I could be wrong. Any chemists out there know what I can do?

How do I print on latex sheets?

I am a latex clothing designer and I want to make prints on the latex sheeting. All latex sheets are just in one colour (from white to black,) and I want for example a tiger print on it or a print of stripes or a checkerboard etc. The same question but than to texture the latex. Ofcourse the printed ink should not be erased when it is wet, so it should be waterproof, smudgeproof etc. I have some pictures attached as an example.

is it okay to use graftobian liquid latex to make a one time use mold?

I am planning on making a mold but im only going to use it once, the problem im facing right now is that the only latex i can find in town is theatrical liquid latex, or "graftobian liquid latex". I am only planning to use the mold once so im not really worried about the durability, the only thing i am worried about is if the latex will be able to capture all the details without warping. I don want my pull to look like a monster when my master key is a helmet.  this guy used liquid latex to make his mold, problem is that he didnt specify which is good and which is bad:  http://www.xrobots.co.uk/ironmanhelmet/

Math wiki formatting on instructables

Alright Instructables, I fold. It is with a sense of shame that I must ask: Does Instructables have a method (be a clandestine feature or a workaround) to allow a user to enter formatted math text (ex. summation signs, integrals, greek letters even)? In particular, I was trying to get latex to work (I thought I had seen another user do so once) on the wiki, but thus far my efforts have proved fruitless. Anyone out there know a way to do this?

Ok, one of my idea for a current project is to recreate my own model/version of the game pod out of the David Cronenberg film eXistenZ.If your unfamilar, see the pics and video - Essentially the 'game pod' is a biological virtual reality games console. And i must say i am a fan of the film. Now, i need some help, both with ideas, and with build methods.Ideas- I require an idea as the the use of the device - eg, an external hdd enclosure, a wallet, what ever.- I Have a base that im going to use, in the form of a beach stone. So the size is 125mm x 125mmMethods- Although i have a base 'stone' i need to sculpt a little extra, to make the nodule like bits. and genrally curve the shape a bit, what can i use? would bondo do? and whats the UK equilivent?- I want to have a silicon like finish, like the film, i was planning liquid latex, is that a good idea? what else is there thats better?I would appreciate any help anyone can give.ThanksGmjhowe

Easiest and Cheapest way to paint a latex mask?

Hey every one. With Halloween coming I’m preparing to make my Two Face costume. Because I don’t want to paint half of my face I’m using half of an (modified) store bought latex mask. My last step should be the most difficult, painting it. The half of a mask will be doing a lot of moving so I need a flexible paint. I’m only an amateur, but have read some about painting latex. Most methods I’ve seen require mixing different substances. I’d like to get away from that if any was possible, I’d like to make this as easy as I can. The other thing is that it has to be very cheap. I’ve already spent too much money on this costume, and would like to not spend too much more. If anyone knows a type of paint that is flexible and cheap please tell me, because I really need one. Thanks every one. Hope to hear from you soon.

painting 7' latex balloon to look like the moon

Hello out there curious and creative Instructables! I am planning on turning a 7' white latex balloon into the Moon. I plan on painting it after it is inflated. I wondered if anyone has had any experience painting on balloons. What kind of paint will adhere and flex with the balloon? I also intend to light it from inside so the it will "glow". I don't know how to determine what kind/how many LED's to use to create the right amount of glow. Since the balloon will be large, do I need to worry about the heat from the LED's? I can keep the battery or AC connection on the outside of the balloon and above it on the ceiling so that it will not show. Put your thinking caps on and help me out once again. Thanks!'

Paint on rubbery material is sticky?

I used spraypaint (krylon fusion for plastics) on a material kind of like the plastic ruberry outside of wires, cables, cords, etc. It feels really sticky to the touch and I don't even know if I want it on anymore (I don't mind either way). What's the best way to go about this? If I wait long enough will the paint dry and stick to the material? Or should I remove the paint, and how?

Which casting material should I use?

I have been sculpting in wax and then making plaster or silicone molds to make multiples of some fairly detailed model toys. I intended to then pour in liquid latex and create wiggly bendy toys, but unfortunately latex doesn't dry inside the molds. It doesn't seem to matter how long I leave them when I open them lost of the latex is still liquid. I am looking for a replacement. Something durably bendy and low cost that will dry in a mostly enclosed mold.  Any Ideas? Please bare in mind I am in the UK.

flat wheel barrow ? Answered

Our "contractor" wheel barrow with inflatable tires commonly picks-up nails and goes flat. The semi hard sponge rubber replacement seems expensive and I have been wondering what might be homebuilt design. Latex caulk is cheap but don't think it would dry if trapped in a tire. Super ball material or similar would seem to be valuable.
