Okay! Summer project time. I've been collecting acid barrels from my dad's work. Each 55 gallon, plastic drum, is 35 inches high and 24 inches in diameter (90 x 60cm) can hold 460 pounds in fresh water. At the moment, I have 9 barrels. I get another every month, so by mid-springtime, I will have 12 barrels. My question to you, is how would you go about making a house boat, or floating platform. I don't have a specific use for it, just a place to get away with friends or by myself. I would like some kind of canopy. I live about 25 minutes away from the river I plan to set my boat on. A friend of mine has a decent sized trailer, and that is what we would haul it on. My other question is, would I have to have my house boat licensed, or 'labeled' to be legal? Thanks in advance, some sketches would be appreciated. :D

(THE FILTERS WOULDN'T LET ME THROUGH!!)Well, summer is almost here, and that means 2 months (in my case) of pure FREEEEDOM!!!!And what better way to spend the summer than catching up on a year and a half of making? Some things have happened back here, so I don't have as much freedom as I'd like. My grandfather is staying with us, so I don't have as much free time since I have to take care of him. Anyway, here's my checklist of things to make. If I make something, I will cross it out. My goal is to at least make 7 of these:Assassin's Creed Hidden bladeLearn to use BlenderMake an traditional animationLight TabletScreenprintingCardboard avatarPaper gunsTile pictureDragon EggMIB costumesGood Samaritan gun from HellboyLightsaberSun JarLED cubeE-bolaAnimatronic HandBike Lights* What about you guys? Got a list ready? Suggestions?

Hi, everyone! I'm Jess. Before joining the team here at Instructables, I was an Elementary STEM and ESE Teacher, and I have loved art and maker/DIY projects pretty much my entire life. Recently, I’ve seen some really awesome and inspiring projects and noticed that the authors were teachers, so I thought it would be cool to connect here and share what we're working on with other teachers who also love to tinker and make. I'm so excited to learn about what you all are up to and celebrate your crafty, techie, maker awesomeness! :DFeel free to say hi and share about the things you love to create or link to your most recent project in the comments below.

The other day, I was voting on some things, and i would check mine to see how many votes it had. All of a sudden, when I logged out, and logged back in, it wouldn't let me vote on anything. I would supply more info on the problem, but that's it. It just won't let me vote.

Hello, On the main page, large photos alternate with the words "Let's Make..." for various projects. I am curious about the image shown for the word 'clay'. I've scrolled all the clay contest entries, and clay Instructables, but cannot find the particular project for the photo. Help? Many thanks!

I just put a new Forum up on my server. I want to see what it's breaking point is and also would find it handy to get ANY feedback from it, I know there will be a couple things astrew on my forum, but for the most part it's your average SMF forum, with a little bit of work done to it to set up the settings to my likings and changed the theme.I know there are a malicious few that will stumble across my forum link (not necessarily members on this website), but I welcome the testing of my server's security, as I also need to know of any leaks. Also, aside from the testing aspect of my forum, I welcome new users, as I would like to have a user-base of more than 5-6 people, just makes things more exciting ya-kno? I plan to make computer utilities accessible to members and guests, however all other downloads are off limits to guests, you must register, although I haven't really got much to download, there are a couple things to see in there so far.I thank any one of you's who takes time to look this over for me.However, don't try any funny stuff with my ftp access or the rest of my system, as it's set up fairly well and tight and you'll most likely get yourself automatically banned, the Apache, mysql, and php however, I do not think are completely secure, like I said, do test it out.

OK folks, how hard can this possibly be?Yeah, yeah, I know. Probably REALLY hard. But if we all team up and combine our gray matter, can't we overcome any technological obstacle with our collective geekiness?I want to see an affordable, open-source doodad that can turn an LCD from a dead laptop into a working external flatscreen monitor. It should accept digital & analog signals and allow us all to hack up beautiful screens ready to embed in our brilliant projects, while keeping LCD's out of the landfill.punish3r valiantly went down this road: https://www.instructables.com/id/Laptop-Converted-to-2nd-Monitor/but then ended up "cheating" (his words, not mine) by using software that does most of the work (plus he started with a functional laptop!). Discussions I've read usually end with "you'd have to buy a controller for that specific LCD, which would cost almost as much as a regular flatscreen so what's the point?"I reject this (resting on my laurels of ignorance)! If a controller truly exists for every LCD on earth, don't they share lots of common features? And if so, can't we come up with a generic one that could be programmed or dip-switched or soldered or otherwise persuaded to play nice with any LCD on the playground? Even the weird one by the monkey bars who smells like cheese? (Sorry; stretched my metaphor too far and it broke)I envision a circuit board with PC or even TV "in," an amazingly versatile multi-pin adaptor or cable that would replace or connect to that flimsy little ribbon cable sprouting from the LCD. The board would have a USB plug for programming, and a chip smart enough to remember what you tell it. Some smart person will write a nifty app that talks to the board, and vast legions of techies across the globe (or rogue employees of the LCD manufacturers, perhaps?) will upload specs for all of their LCD panels that will be used by other smart people to create a profile for any given panel that can be dropped onto the board. It would have to be really low-cost to make sense, but I envision a cottage industry: package it up as a kit, or we could build goofy-looking monitors out of e-waste and sell them!Somebody else could probably strengthen the argument in favor of this invention by providing a list of terrible LCD ingredients that would be re-purposed out of our trash heaps and water supplies and cat food... I'll leave that up to the experts. What do you think, folks? Is this a pipe dream, or a viable idea? Either way, let's do it!(and if anybody manages to make one, I get dibs on a prototype!)Thanks for reading!Mike

1) OK, I will clarify this after it confused me for so much time. For those of you who didn't know,Eric and canida are marriedI tell you this to help you avoid all the stuff I went through. I saw a lot of things that pointed towards this fact, but nothing actually confirmed it. I didn't have the courage to ask here, if I was wrong, the embarrassment would be too much.... So there. What happened to Stasterisk?Star Simpson is a girl that strapped a fake bomb to her and tried to go through an airport. It was a circuit board with play doh attached to it in certain spots. She is currently a student at MIT, which explains the website url. So if you want to get more of an idea of who this Star Simpson girl is. Check outthis pageAnd this ibles postMy name is BryantAlthough, I think Gorillazmiko made that quite clear. Get over it.

Ill start out saying that i can really pack a punch, when i was in 3rd grade these two kids were throwing rocks out me i charged at them planing to tackle him, the other one ran, but he held up fist so i lost control of myself so i just speared him them punched him 2 or 3 times in his solar plexus which he imddelyty was passed out so moved to his face and it took three or 4 techers to just get me off him, took 7 to calm me down, i promised never to do that to anyone ever again unless i was threatend, well these guys got me so angry that they even made other people, friends and other graders ignore me because the other people thinks its true, they did not threaten me fyi, so i dont know what to do they even made a person hit me but me and him r kinda chill right now/ we keep r distance, but he was talking about my clothes and mocking me saying that i got from dollar general and then i said " well things all even out because you got your parents from ebay" then he said all no you did not just go there and he did cause it, but he turned AROUND TO EVEN MAKE SURE A TEACHER WAS NOT LOOKING AND PUNCHED MY RIGHT IN ME ADOMENAL i was getting ready to pounce back but remeberd my promise but didnt but ill just get to the main point today coming back from the feild trip i had to use the restroom well the only one was the one on the bus, so i went there, not knowing i was being followed, and when i was their he/she blocked the door so i could get the door open so i was trapped there for (thankly to god) for only 10 minutes because the teacher came looking for me. but i think it was gage, who is APPERNLTY my friend and hes been really rude to me lately and to all my friends just because i dont just talk to him (i try to be nice to many people but they just talk smack about me sometime) so he even admitted and no i will not tell a teacher.

Yesterday, I posted a long comment, with clear, cogent, and on-topic content, to a forum topic which was specifically addressed to me. It is now more than 25 hours later, and my reply is still trapped in whatever antiscientific purgatory it was banished. If it's not going to be released, could someone on staff post a comment to that effect in the forum topic, so that the OP and others know they aren't going to get an answer.

I've recently seen comments from people who want to post other people's guns. Most of the time, it ends up in a denial and everybody is upset. Someone went ahead and posted the rectangle (giving 100% credit to oodalumps), and got complaints of not asking permission. Here is what I have to say about this: If people won't let you post their guns for them, make a gun that fires like their gun, but make it original and different from theirs so they can't complain about asking for permission when you post. Make sure it performs similar or better to the other gun too. The reason I posted my OMEN XR was because nobody could post the rectangle, so I decided to give them something else to build that works the same, but is designed differently.

My wife is interested in ghost hunting shows like TAPS and Ghost Hunters International. She even joined a local Paranomal Society. The first thing she wanted to buy was an EMF detector for a whopping $175. Now, I don't believe in ghosts, but I support my wife, so instead of buying her an OTS EMF detector, I decided to build her this one. Thanks Computergeek! Oddly, the first thing that popped into my head when I finished building the Arduino EMF detector was a quote from Keano Reeves from Point Break, "I caught my first tube today....Sir." It's appropriate though, in the sense that he was just getting started in the bank robbery investigations. I'm pretty happy with this build...I had a couple of issues in hardware and code that I was able to troubleshoot myself. And it all works! So this was pretty easy, even for a newbie. Now, what I want to do is add a data logger that records values to flash memory. You can probably see where I'm going with this (as a non-believer). If you remove the human element from the situation, is there still paranomal activity? Or put another way, if a tree falls down in the middle of the forest and no one is around to hear it...does it still make noise? If anyone has any ideas, tips, or suggesstions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks for a great online community! LorienD

Ok, first ill explain what I have built, and excuse me if it already exists, I can't even think of how to google/name it. A can floats in water, there is a candle in the can. On top of the can there is a propeller which is stuck to the can. The hot air rises and lets the fan (and therefore the whole can) spin. The power is very little and the can tends to move to a side of the bowl and that friction stops it. Is there a balance problem ? Is the not perfect propeller working like a sail and therefore pushing it to the side ? What could I do to let the can stay perfectly in the middle while spinning ? Thanks in advance.

I am looking to drill holes into the side of a 3/4" brass hose cap so that I can attach it to a piece of leather. I need to know the easiest way to accomplish this and if I can buy a dremel bit to do the job, that would make it even easier. Also, what kind of lubricant should I use for cutting into metal like this? Thank you for your time
