Light Up Snare

Would it be possible to assemble a circuit using a piezo sensor and a string of LEDs so that a snare lights up when hit? My knowledge of stuff like this is extremely limited (read: non-existent) so any help would be appreciated! Also, if my idea is useless, it'd be great if other ways of doing this were discussed. Thanks!

Up for a challenge..?

So... I was wondering, would anyone be up for a challenge? Here it is: USB powered strobe lights, sound reactive. We got lots of geniuses here, but no one makes this little gadget. They have them on the back of the DS's X3, four lights in each side of the cartridge that react to the music that plays through the DS speakers. But, of course, not outside of a DS cartridge, apparently. Could you do it? Are you brave enough, smart enough, quick enough to be the first? Hm. Lets see it. If you do, post ideas and progress here. Seems like an interesting little project.

Random LED Light up

I'm trying to make a row of 6 LED's where a random one light up when you press a button. I'm using a toggle button, so the led stays on until the button moves to the Off position. Then when you move it to the On position it chooses another random LED to light up. How could I go about doing this?

Light up skateboard risers

So i found this instructable on making light up skateboard risers : https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-skateboard-longboard-riser-lights-angled-riser/ and i have a slight issue with following it to the letter. My risers are not slim hard plastic wedges but instead are 1/2" solid rubber flats, so i want to know if anyone thinks there could be an issue with 'dremeling' a bit deeper than is neccessary for the electronics and taking advantage of the soft rubber by letting the exposed side seal itself against the bottom of my board when i bolt it into place so i dont have to glue the batteries as well as the electronics to weatherproof it? To clarify, i intend to hot glue the LEDs, wiring and switch but not the batteries so that they're easy to replace...

Photon Light-Up Skateboards

I came across this website last week but wasn't able to get it into a forum, but here it is. This company embeds approx. 52 LED's into each board, than wires them up in between one of the multiple veneers of wood, then connects them to a rechargeable battery and an on/off switch behind the front trucks. They come in many different colors and sizes. here are some of the pictures from the site, and they're video.Photon Light Boards

Adult Light up shoes?

I want to add some LEDs to my shoe soles (like the ones in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hby6z_nFfyE). I don't need them to be able to flash, or blink every step, although if you know how i can do that, i would appreciate it. I have tried attaching an LED ribbon to the sole of the shoes and i didn't really like how it looked (I want a diffused light like the ones in the video and picture) Thanks in advance.

Basic lighting set-up

I apologise in advance to all you keen photographers for my Absolute Novice status. I need to take photo's for my Instructables which are usually small-ish desk top items. Currently I am having problems with a dark (black paper) drawing in a glass frame, how do I get the details in the image without it bleaching out or flaring on the glass? I have a spacious work desk under a window, two cantilever lights, a centre room light, etc. I can only use whatever's available in my house because I never take pictures for any other reason. Any tips for a very grateful novice would be very welcome.( I'm a blank slate)

Key Light

Ok so I used to have this key cover that had a tiny light, kind of like those crappy led key chain flashlights except that it actually fit on to the key. It would light up by pressing a button while trying to find the keyhole to put the key in. It was actually really handy.... I'd like to make one myself now that its broken but I'm horrible with electronics and would probably manage to blow something up without knowing what I'm doing. Can somebody make me an instructable for this?

How to make LED lights light up with subwoofer?

I have LED lights hooked up to the speaker wire of the subwoofer and they light up with the bass, but only at very high volumes (too loud for comfort level) I want to know if theres a way I could amplify that signal that goes from the subwoofer into the lights so they light up at lower volumes, or is there a better way to make them light up at lower volumes. I also don't really want to buy a music interface, I just want to try to make it work with what I have. any ideas?

Lighted Wand

So, I've had an idea I wanted to try and make but i have no experience with electronics and was hoping to do it all with hardware only, no software. The idea is this, I have a wand which has an LED strip (like a lightsaber, but a lot smaller) which connects to two buttons/switches. First button/switch if held down it will pulse/glow the LED at the base of the wand (charging up spell) and when you release it "shoots" up the LED strip (like you're firing a spell). Second switch just lights the LED at the tip of the wand, making it like a torch (LUMOS).Any ideas on how I could achieve such a feat? Point me in the right direction? I have knowledge on how to solder and such and have taken very basic electronics. Currently trying to make a lightsaber, hoping to get some experience so I can make my eventual goal, the wand. Most of the instructables I've seen so far have been very simple with a single LED at the end.Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

Light-up Shoes - NEED HELP!

I am trying to make a pair of shoes that light up when the wearer is either moving or when pressure is applied. I am using EL wire and a driver to power it.  At first I was using a tilt switch taped on the outside as a prototype.  The method worked great, except the spot on the shoe ended up being too stressful on the component and the lead snapped of the tilt switch. Any suggestions on how to make (or where to buy) a motion or pressure activated switch that is compact and cheap that would close the circuit when desired pressure or motion is applied that would open when the wearer is at rest?  If it is a pressure or bending switch I will just place it on the inside of the shoe. Thanks.

Lightning lighting

OK I got one for you all! What I would like to achieve is a realistic lightning effect for Halloween displays. I've tried some different ideas, but none can give me a realistic effect. Most produce a timed effect (2 sec on, 2 secs off, 2 on, 2 off etc...) What I think I would need would be a circuit board or something like that, that would produce a random current to a strobe light source (ie. 1 sec on, 3 secs off, 2 on, 6 off, 1 on 5 off etc...) Could this be done? I've searched all over the internet and haven't been able to come up with anything. Thanks! Wes

staircase handrail lighting

Hi. not sure this is the right category but here goes. i want to build a staircase handrail (interior) that has LEDs underneath it, pointing towards the stairs, and i want them to light up automatically when someone touches the handrail. a nice variant would be that individual lights light up following my hand position on the rail (following you up or down the stairs) and an even nicer variant to that would be to have the other lights fade as you move. is this possible? and is it possible WITHOUT mild user electrocution? :D i have no trouble building it, just not sure about the electrical part... please share thoughts or ideas on how to make this! thanks!

I want to make this lamp, please help!

WARNING: Mechanically inexperienced Newbie post below. Your patience is appreciated. :)Some of you may have seen this lamp online somewhere:http://www.hulgerisation.com/?page_id=60I'd like to try and make a lamp that works like this. As mentioned above, my experience is virtually non-existent when it comes to taking machines apart and hacking into them, but I possess a decent amount of common sense, and I'm pretty handy when it comes to tools. I'd like this to be my first project of this type. It seems simple enough: take a lamp base, a clock spring and a dynamo flashlight aaaand.... then what? Okay, so maybe it's not so simple. But to some of you, I'm sure it's probably a piece of cake, right? So if you've got the time and would like to explain how to do this, I'd truly appreciate your help.I found this instructable to be informative, https://www.instructables.com/id/The-Wind-up-Headboard-Reading-Light/but ultimately, it's not what I'm looking for. The key is the key for me with this lamp. It is visually appealing to me. Secondly, I would like lighting component to be that of a standard lamp- incandescent or CFL. If anyone has some kindly advice to offer, I would truly appreciate it. Thank you for reading!

LED SET UP

Hi , new to instructables and have been looking at some posts and am now confused. Im in the process of seting up a led lighting board, I am using 20 blue high power 1W led's 350mw each. My plan is to run them from a computer power supply, but am unsure of the safest way to hook them up, parallel with a resistor for each or so on, I am basic when it comes to electronics and components, i can read a basic diagram. Also some parts listed in high power led driver on this site are parts numbers that are not available in Australia, i know i need to regulate voltage and current at 3.5v and 350ma but don't know what parts to use, i used led calculator and was told to use a 1watt 5.6ohm resistor in parallel. Please help

Led Christmas Lights

I have an idea but have no idea if it would even work. I would like to make a led string that can be two different colors. The idea is that I put the lights up in October and they are purple and orange for Halloween and then as Christmas approaches I can change them to green and white. That way I can put lights up one time and do it when it is still warm out and my neighbors wont think I'm nuts. I know I can weave two lines together and just switch plugs but that isn't complicated enough. I like to do things that are way more complicated than it needs to be but are really cool when they are done. my wife loves it.

Only up to four LEDs light up.

I've got loads of LEDs and resistors from eBay and using the resistors, only up to 4 LEDs in serial will light. I can't just use more resistors, as I broke open a mains lighting bulb that uses 20 LEDs to provide lighting. Looking at the printed circuit, they are all soldered in series. If I put + at one side of an LED and - at the other with these resistors I have, it lights, two three and 4 work, but on the 5th, it drops dim, after that it won't light at all. Do I need a different resistor, of is something else wrong. Could someone kindly tell my what resistor I need for 20 5mm White LEDs running off 18v (two 9V batteries), and 9v (one)? Thanks! Josh.

Back-up power

Hey there folks! Looking for some advise again. NH just went through the worst power outage in years (maybe history). 6 days without power has me thinking again. I have means of heat (wood stove) and means of cooking (propane) and lighting (candles and my LED projects), but the well pump is a problem. The need of water to flush the toilets came from the stream nearby, all well and good as it was, washing our bodies from buckets has to go. I have learned that my 220vac well pump actually draws it's power from 2 110 vac circuits. If I have this right (which is my first question, is this even possible) I only need a 110vac converter to run this off my batteries. Now, if I'm correct here (second question) a 4amp 220vac pump is 880 watts, then the draw from the 12vdc battery should be 74amps (give a few for losses maybe 80 amps). I only have 2 160AH deep cell batteries running currently. Am I looking at a reality of 2 hrs (half the draw) or 4 hrs use (full draw)? Or, is it even less.... Yup, that was a third question! I just bought a 2500 (5000 max) watt inverter intended for the shop and thought I would use this as my back-up for the winter. Am i even close here?

Getting leds to light up in sync with wind?

Hi all, I would need your help with a project I have in mind...  I've been at it in my mind for a while, but I'm getting nowhere fast, as I'm rather a newbie in electronics!!  I did enlist a friend to help with that, though! ;) I would like to find a way to have the wind trigger the lighting/fading of a led, the same way one could do with a variable photo resistor (variable-resistor-wind-sensor-like, or could it be more slight-motion-based?). It needs to be compact and inexpensive, as I would need to make a whole lot of those. Ideally, it would be an analog sensor, but I am open to other ideas. No Arduino, though, please...  I'm not there yet.  Either one sensor for each led,  or one sensor for a few leds at a time. It could be powered by an external battery. Any ideas? Thanks!
