What was "The List"? and what happened to it?

I really enjoy seeing all the projects people have taken the time to share -- but because so many of the (exact) same ones show up multiple times, I don't have the opportunity (time) to see ALL of them. Is there some way you can fix it so that the duplicates don't show up? Thanks.

This is a question about the site, not about the @#$% forums! IS there a PAGE that LISTS all of the CATEGORIES for INSTRUCTABLES somewhere? I don't understand why there isn't just a button on the home page...is it inconceivable that one might want to choose from a list of categories of instructables to look at? I don't live here so every time I visit, I'm like a new visitor and confined to the instructables that are listed in emails BECAUSE I CAN'T FIND A @#$% LIST OF CATEGORIES TO BROWSE AND CHOOSE WHAT I WANT TO LOOK AT FOR MYSELF!! #@$%!!! The concept is SO good that the inability to find a list of categories is INFURIATING!

How cool would it be to have a "to do" list on here? I love the favorites feature, and agree with other posters that it needs to have a way to easily organize your favorites or search within your favorites. (I'm not sure about all it has, can't afford a pro membership yet) But, for those with pro, I could see how a to-do list would be sweet, where you can add an instructable to your "to-do" list and go back later and prioritize the items within it. Kinda like how Amazon has the priority wish lists.

There used to be a way, with a couple of clicks from the home page that would give you a chronological list of the most recent projects regardless off the category. Is there a way to do that now without clicking the recent button in each specific category, but to include all categories? Thanks for your help.

Other than knitting and sewing what would be crafts? I do woodworking ,metalworking as craft ,i do not think that those would quantify for this. Any ideas ? to expand this ie. leatherwork? wood carving? I am the guy that build stuff not the guy that thought it up.

I just noticed the forum sections now start with topcis that are up to 8 years old. Is there a massive cleanup going on or is something stuffed up? I just hope it is not just my end of the line again....

The contest listing page shows open contests defaulting to a deadline date of July 14,2011. The Enter your Instructable Now! tag is active for some contests that have closed/in judging. It looks like the page for the individual contest is correct if you make the jump. It will sure confuse a lot of peoples.

I had an idea for something that I think would be a great addition to the site: a To-Do List feature. You could create to do lists and add instructables to those lists. It would help keep your projects together, say if you wanted to make some shelves, repaint your room, and add mood lighting, you could add all of those instructables to a "Room Make Over" To do list. Just a though, I'd love to hear what you all think of it. (Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I couldn't think of anywhere else to put it.)

Schindler's actual list has been found.Thirteen fragile yellow pages, 801 typed names, have been found in Australia, between the pages of Thomas Keneally's research notes for his book Schindler's Ark, which was used as he basis for the film Schindler's List.Keneally had been handed it almost 30 years ago in a shop in Los Angeles, by one of the people who Schindler helped escape - Leopold Pfefferberg, Jewish worker 173 on the list.Imagine, holding the actual list. That must be up there with the original Magna Carta, or being allowed to touch the Bayeux Tapestry*.BBC Story*Which isn't actually a tapestry, but that's a whole other topic.

I've been a member of this site for a while, and I've noticed that some of the users here are very close. Wouldn't it be cool if each user could have a list of the other members of the community that they interact with the most?Perhaps it could be linked to the new chat room, or go even further and create an easier PM system much like some popular instant-messaging programsPost your thoughts on the matter, would you use it?

Sorry if this is an incredibly stupid question, but is there an instructables preference to make this: https://www.instructables.com/tag/type:id/?sort=POPULAR&layout;=text the default over this https://www.instructables.com/tag/type:id/?sort=POPULAR I want an option for my account, not a link to a greasemonkey script etc. Thanks

I've notice others on here have this problem recently and now I am too. This instructable I published yesterday is only accessible through my user profile and not through search or category browsing. Please help. I tried unpublishing and republishing and even changing category but nothing worked. https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Split-a-Song-MP3-Using-Garageband-09/ Thanks.

Hello Fellow Instructablers! Its been a while since I have made a post but I am back with a burning question! I have a great interest in science and chemistry and always wanted to preform experiments seen on page of authors like Nurdrage for example. But I have never had the required equipment or chemicals to do these. I have taken a high school chemistry class and gotten my stuff down and now am prepared to take on the challenge of the lab. I have a birthday coming on on the 24th and my parents said if I wanted to get into chemistry I should ask for equipment and chemicals or what I need for my birthday. So I will, but I need help. From an experienced chemist or someone who has done this before. Can anyone give me a list of basic-intermediate lab equipment that is needed for most experiments? I don't want to get one of those chemistry kits for kids since those are so restricted and only let you do the experiments given to you, not very fun So I want to get free use equipment and chemicals for any procedure. But I have no idea what is needed most or least and would really appreciate it if someone were able to do this for me. Just in the comments or PM, have a list of stuff I should ask for if I wanted to kick start my chemistry, what that item is used for, the price and its frequency of use to determine what I should decide on if there were to be a conflict. I would really appreciate any help I can get from you guys cause my birthday is coming up soon! Thanks everyone! ~Ostomesto

When I searched for knex today, I clicked on rating, recent, and popular, along with the other sections, and the listings never changed at all. This is the first time I have witnessed thig bug, and I am wondering if anyone else has found this. If you look at the pictures this will explain the problem fully. Does any one of the instructables team think they can fix this?

I've subscribed to the "featured" RSS feed for about a year now. I'd like to see a list of every featured Instructable in order from the beginning. I could in theory just scroll back that far in my RSS feed reader but that would take a long, long time. Any suggestion?

New contests seem to be popping up quite stealthily. I do check the contests listing page often to see what I can throw together for fun but it is getting harder to keep up to see what is new. New contest announcements will be buried a few down in the listing so I will not notice it if I do not scroll down the browser window. The listing does not seem to have the open contests in a recognizable order. The Pi contest is at the top and some of the more previous ones were inserted between the open contests below. I suggest new contest announcements be piled on top so people can see what has been announced and work accordingly. At least there is some chronological order to figure out what contests to enter.

I've been a member for 5 years and always used to login using facebook. That now appears to not be an option, but I can still use the email to login, however my favorites list is empty, though when viewing an instructable I know to have favorited, is still shows as a favorite. What the hell.

Can anyone suggest a mailing list or group hosting solution that is private, self-serve, and extremely simple? I volunteered to setup a mailing list or group for my neighborhood. I just made a Google group, and checked out the invitation and acceptance process, which requires creating a Google account. I feel that creating another account might be burdensome or too complicated for some of my neighbors -- especially the older ones who stay at home peering out of their windows all day that I specifically want included. Mailman does pretty much what I want, but I don't think it's ready for someone who already has trouble dealing with email at all. Yahoo groups seems to be a default solution, but in all honesty, it is a total mess. Am I not giving my older neighbors enough credit? How have you made mailing lists for multi-generational groups?

Looking at some current Instructables in various categories, I don't see any posting dates listed on the project pages. When did this start? Is there a secret way to learn the date? One of my biggest peeves on the web is press releases (or worse -- news stories) posted without a date -- one of the most important pieces of information! (the five W's of journalism, etc.). Or is this just a Chrome issue?

There currently seems to be a lot of threads suggesting ideas and discussing how they could or couldn't work. I thought I'd compile a list of all of these with links to their discussions so pro users could see what has already been suggested and yell out their support for ideas they like. Later when we've heard back from the ibles team perhaps the following list could be sorted into categories of how likely it is these changes will be made.In no particular order:1) User Online Status by Kiteman - allow pro users to see who's currently online2) Auto Currency Convertor by Jayefuu - automatically convert currencies after users have set their currency of choice3) Time Zones by Jayefuu - allow users to set their time zones in their profiles so ibles, forum topics and answers use times that actually mean something to them.4) PM Subscribers - by Kiteman - allows Pro users to notify their subscribers when they publish a new ible.5) Favourited by - by mikeasaurus - Pro members can see who's added their instructable to their favourites list. Please post links to topics I've missed and I'll add them to the list above. I'm sure Eric and the team have their own list of suggestions we've made, but it'd be nice for us to keep track of what's what.

Not sure if it's a bug; Noticed with the most recent site update that on ibles the stats tab is gone and page referrers are no longer visible. Not seeing it in IE 7.0.57. Just curious if it's a rendering problem, or if it was just legit removed as a feature. -J

Selecting Workshop/Gardening/All Types came back with 64 pages. As a newbie, I walked through all 64 pages and found a multitude of duplicates, some are displayed 5 times. Not similar, duplicate. Don't know if it occurs retrieving from database or malfunction on displaying the pages. Firefox on Win8. Total bummer, as 64 pages were a lot to walk through.
