Every time I change pages to look at something or post a comment, it tells me I have to log back on. I do this and it's ok until I go to another page. Also when I go to post a comment it tells me to log in and it will take me back to where I am, and it doesn't, all I get is a blank page. I do log in when I first pull up the site, I just want to know why I have to keep logging in.

I haven't been using your site (which I love, by the way!) for very long (a few months), but I just thought I would let you know that I hate logging in to the site. The reason is that I'm typically already reading about someones project prior to logging in, then when I decide I need to log in, I lose my place, as I'm whisked away to some generic post log in page. Then I have to think about what keywords might bring me back to the project I was reading about, and hope to find it again, etc, etc. It would be much nicer if I could just log in and go directly back to the page I was viewing prior to log in. Would that be possible? I typically avoid logging in at all costs because of this, and I doubt that's really your goal (or mine for that matter). I imagine I'm not alone. Anyway, I thought you would like to know. Keep up the good work, it's one of the best sites on the web! Atman8

I have had problems for quite a while now logging into instructibles. I would have to type user name and password in several times before it would take. Since Christmas I have had to reinstall my operating system four or five times (I use XP) and now I can't log in at all. No matter how often I try my password/username. Really frustrating. I keep having to get to the area where you forget your password and get a message sent to me. And by the time I have done that, and got logged in that way, I have lost or forgotten the page I wanted to favourite. Please help

I've been reading instructables for two hours now, I can click thumbnails to see full pictures, I can download PDF's, I can write comments... but each time I go to www.instructables.com/id/Reduce_motion_blur_in_The_GIMP/ I'm automatically logged out, I'm no longer able to enlarge thumbnails, I can't download the PDF an it doesn't even accept my correct login name and password. As soon as I go to another subject I'm logged in again automatically.

Ok here's the problem, I received my subscription updates and when I click on the link, I am logged out. so I log in at the top of the website, click log in and nothing happens. so I click at the image, it asks me to log in yet again so I do it and it brings me to another screen and I loose the page I was on... if I hit the Back button, it's as though I never logged. WTF is going on? this is very frustrating.

Hello, I am having trouble staying logged in to my account. I am accessing the site on a Surface Pro running Windows 10 on the latest chrome update, and run the "HTTPS Everywhere" extension. I can log in and view my collections and profile and all that, but when I view an individual instructable I get logged out. If I click on the Log In button at the top it logs me in without prompting for a password, but it sends me back to the home page. This process seems to repeat ad infinitum, so I can't access premium features and I can't save favorites. A little annoying! Any ideas?

So recently, in the past week or so, I've noticed that the Instructables login/profie/status bar thing at the top right has been a little confused as to whether i'm logged in or not on various pages. For example, (Note: I'm currently logged in throughout) > Visiting the Instructables Home page I now see the "signup / login links". > Clicking on Answers / Contests / another instructable shows that I'm logged in with "You / Inbox / Shortcuts / Log out". This used to work fine 2 weeks ago, I haven't updated my system or software - Did wonder if it's an issue with cookies or something? Mac OS X 10.6.7 Safari 5.0.4 Does anyone else have the same problem?

So I was just trying to log in after being automatically logged in for a long time, and was not succeeding. I guess it was because I didn't read "username" next to the box, but I was trying to use my email instead of my username. I kept thinking that it was because i was entering my password incorrectly (when actually my password was correct), so I tried about 6 times. Finally resulting to "forgot my password." This process could be a lot more dummy proof. So, a "dummy proofing suggestions": Make the log in box accept both Username and Email (if programming it is not possible for some reason, perhaps just have a friendly dialog box that would pop up after a filed attempt that says "use your Username, not your Email") Thanks for reading and keep up the good work

Hi All, The homepage of Instructables gets a big makeover today, you may have noticed! If you're logged out, you'll continue to see the same rotator with huge, beautiful images that you know and love. If you're logged in, you're going to see your customized feed (if available) or "top picks" (if not). Top picks are the same projects that appear on the logged-out version of the homepage, so if it's the variety of fun projects that keeps you coming for more, there should be nothing lost. We've had terrific feedback on the "feed" related features -- people love the personalization of Instructables, and come back for more when we're able to show them exactly what they came for in the first place. Now, we're dialing it to 11. We know the homepage is a big driver of traffic for many new projects, so there may be concerns that projects on the homepage will get fewer views. We don't anticipate this will be substantial, since most visitors to the homepage are logged out. We hope you like it!

Only recently, I am required to enter a password every time I log on to instructables....has this happened to anyone else? Is this part of the corporate changes we are to expect from the new alliance/coupling of Instructables/Autodesk? A sign of things to come? Or is this my browser, my computer(s). When the machine asks? do you want me to remember your password?, I say yes, but it never does...hmmmmmm.

Hi guys, I've noticed that this happens a lot when you try to log in via mobile devices, such as iPad. As you know, when you click "sign in", in the panel that pops up, there is a picture with a link saying upgrade to premium or something similar. What happens is that when you click the first line to enter your username, that page suddenly glitches, and scrolls down, so you end up hitting upgrade to premium. This is very annoying, especially if you are viewing an I'ble or forum topic and you want to reply or comment on it, as you have to find it again. I hope that this will be fixed soon, maybe by removing the big "upgrade to premium" or whatever is there. thx in advance super_me

I tried to log in just now and when I got to the landing page it showed that I wasn't logged in. I tried again, and failed again. On the third try, I discovered that I could log in successfully by turning off "keep me signed in". So, I came here to report it. After I clicked the Forums tab, I seemed to be logged out again. I clicked to log in and I was sent to the landing page again, already logged in. I came back here and again seemed to be logged out, but I ignored that. While I'm typing this I again appear to be logged in. On the post preview I also appear to be logged in. I suppose this could be a security issue: people could think they're logged out when they aren't.

I can't seem to log in to the site when using Firefox 54.0.1. After clicking on the "log in" button and entering my username and password, I get redirected to the homepage. I can log in using Safari, so I don't think the issue is with my account. I also tried clearing my history and deleting my cookies, but the problem still persists. Any ideas as to what's going on? When I log in after clicking an image, I DON'T want to be taken to the "welcome username!" page, I want to STAY on the page I was at so I can see the picture that I logged into see. When I hit the back button on my browser to return to the actual Instructable, I go back to the not-logged in page. Then I hit refresh, and THEN I can see the picture. Is it not possible to just stay on the same page??

Hello, It seems that every time I try to view this (and ONLY this) instructable, my account is temporarily logged off, leaving me unable to comment, rate, or even favorite the post. (and it's a great share too, just what I was looking for!) I've notified the author of this as well, who also seems to be having trouble with their image tags. Could anybody please look into this? I'd hate for such a useful post to die in obscurity. Thank you... -rhoddity [link] https://www.instructables.com/id/Custom-Switch-Panel-for-a-Flight-Simulator/

Y'know those paper logmakers where you soak some newspaper and then put it in a metal box and pull the handles to compress it? I have tried to do this with PVC pipe and a wooden plunger made to fit, (with a wooden base as well). didn't work. anyone know if those logmakers work and how to do a cheap/simple version of one, perhaps building on my PVC pipe efforts? when I burned the resulting log from my PVC logmaker it was extremely sooty and burned in about 2 minutes, they are supposed to last an hour and burn clean enough to use in a woodburner.

The title basically states my question. Can the site updates be shown publicly? I've noticed small changes here in there, like that temporary one where we couldn't see the number of favorites (much like Instagram). Is there a place where we can read all of the updates from the start of instructables up to today? I was just curious, and it would be cool to see the site's development from the start. Thanks :D

Why the difference? Which is correct? Taken at the same time after a refresh. They have been consistently far apart since the beginning. 4411 logged out 7909 logged in It doesn't seem to change when I repeatedly open the instructable, so it doesn't appear to be counting my hits.

I am making a bow and arrow rack I saw in a magazine. They want $50.00 dollars for it, plus shipping. So being frugal, I have plenty of dead cedar logs around for projects, I will make my own. I just can't seem to come up with a way to hold the logs (28" L x about 10: D) . Anyone got any suggestions ?

Hey guys, Wondering if anyone else has a hard time logging in. My browser (google chrome latest version) stores my password and username but I can't get myself logged in! It keeps sending me to the how to share page (the one's with the explenation for step by step, movie etc) without actually logging me in. So every time I press log in with all my saved username and password ready I get send there. Only after fiddeling around with it until I didn't log in with the pop up screen but with one in the normal screen it logged me in but even then it logs me out after a few pages. Don't really know what's happening but hoped you guys would know :) Michel

We would like to make some outdoor drums made from logs that when hit trigger a relay which turns on a light. It it is proving to be very tricky to get a reliable system. We have tried using microphones with a small circuit to detect when triggered, these have worked the best but we get many false triggers and other times not triggering at all, we have tried adding pre amps to these microphones to try to boost the signal. We have also tried to use capacitive touch sensors on top of the logs but again, many false triggers. The set up is installed outdoors for over a month and can sometimes be made to work but then the temperature and humidity will change and this causes them to false trigger or to not trigger at all, we are currently toying with the idea of hall effect or reed sensors, many of set into each log with a neodymium magnet in the end of the drum stick. If anybody has any ideas of how we can make a reliable system for installation outdoors that works through all the temperature and humidity changes please let me know.

I can't reliably log into instructables. This has been happening sporadically for several months now. There seems to be a bug that when I go to log in it just keeps going back to the login prompt. This usually happens a couple of times and then it lets me log in, but today I am stuck not being able to log in at all. I even tried re-entering my user name and password, but still no dice. Now that I have written this, I see that I am logged in, but when I was trying to log in on the instructables home page it indicated that i was not logged in.

Over roughly the last 24-36 hours, the site has started logging me out if if follow links to projects. Not every time, but I am currently having to log in three or four times per session on the site. For instance, if I am logged in and browsing the recent page in desktop view, and I click on a thumbnail, I get taken to the project, but arrive on the mobile site, and not logged in. When I switch back to desktop view, I am still not logged in. The same happens if I follow a link to a project from a "subscription update" email. It's not just "arriving on the site and having to log in", if I am already on the site and logged in, then follow a link from an email, the tabs I already have open get logged out as well. This is using an Android tablet with up-to-date browser.

I do a lot of my casual browsing on my iPod. However, since "upgrading" to iOS6, I seem to get logged out a lot. Not just here, but email pages, other forums, even Skype - if I spend too long off a page, or not actually on a Skype conversation, then I get logged out. Anybody know how to fix this?

I have not used this site in quite some time now, but I do have an account. Today as I was viewing the site, I have had to log in over 7 times while reading a single instructable on 4 pages. I keep getting automatically logged out. In one instance of logging back in, I got an error saying that my account was not found?

I see that over the last 8 years there have been over 50 people emailing about getting logged out. But they get logged out during one session. My question is why am i getting logged out daily. All my other sites (except financial...) let me stay logged in for days at a time. So that means my cookies are working. Do you require us to relog in every 24 hours? atilla

I login, check the box to keep me logged in, then I go offline for a while, come back online and I am not logged in. I am used to other websites that actually do keep me logged in even when I'm offline, is that not how it works here or is it just not working right for me? It does remember my user name and password on the main login page (never the little pop-up boxes) but I still have to click the buttons to log in. I use Firefox, most recent version, and Vista. I have cookies enabled, as I said I am able to stay logged in on other sites.
