So one time, i was practising throwing cards. i lay on the floor tossing cards at the ceiling. One stuck there, embedded in the popcorn texture. Stayed there for weeks. High ceiling. Any other examples of a long shot?

Hi! I'm selling this super modified Nerf Longshot. The paint job was based off of Coop772's paint job that he did. The mods I did to this is listed in the video. I did take a few pictures from SGNerf and Coop772 because I forgot to take a picture of some of the internals and I already put the gun back together. If you have any questions feel free to comment below. Thanks for viewing! Video of this (video embed code doesn't seem to work): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyH-N6wm16A

So I own a 39.1 cm (15.4 in) K'nex steel rod, which I got from the 6 ft. Knex Ferris Wheel set. Does anybody know any good uses for this rod? I should point out it is slightly thicker than the typical K'nex rod, has no places to clip on connectors (other than on the ends) and creates a lot of friction with the holes in connectors (so no epic single shots unfortunately). The rod is also quite heavy. The picture is a comparison between the steel rod and a strengthened grey rod (black).

A long time ago, I looked at Mepain's 8-Shot Deconstruction Round Revolver, and I really liked the idea, but as all concepts, it didn't shoot far. Within 20 minutes the other day I had made a small, real-triggered pistol (cock+revolve+shoot) with 8 shots, where the firing pin hits a white rod off of a snowflake connector. This was meant to be a simple revolver for people with few pieces, or who just want a fun gun. At a 45 degree angle, I won't lie, it probably gets around 10-20 feet, depending on the wear and tear of your pieces. It won't win any wars, it is a simple sidearm so you can build more piece consuming firearms. I will have pictures up shortly. Edit: I've improved range by some number, and it is now more complex and piece consuming but more reliable, and the clip design has been perfected. Advantages over guns with magazines: - Never Jams. Ever. - Slanted handle with no magazine inside. No broken pieces or clumsy mag pushers in your way. - Bullets are spread out in a circle. It is very compact, especially if you use green rods instead of whites. - Detachable wheels. This means quick reload if you have extra wheels pre-built. - Easy trigger pull. You don't need a super-powerful rubber band to make it shoot far, so the trigger pull is smooth and easy. - Super easy to build. You don't need to be an expert in k'nex to know how this works. Because it takes up less space and pieces than a magazine, and the clip design requires no rubber bands (unless you really want auto-revolver) this design could easily be perfected and expanded upon to a rifle, or high-powered weapon. It uses one black Y-connector, for the trigger, and I'm sure there's another way to do it, but this is probably the best. I can't find my camera; when I do, I will have pictures up. Probably not instructions because the thing is easy to build from pictures and a pain to take apart, but I'll be answering questions frequently when it's up and posting helpful pictures to anybody who requests it. EDIT: Pictures here> https://www.instructables.com/community/TO67PH4GQ225YK9/. Click the "i" at the top-left to get rid of those pesky annotations.

Hello Everyone, I've got quite the project that I am undertaking and I am looking for a bit of advice. This will be my very 1st forray into long-distance wifi, as well as off-grid power resources, so Im biting off quite a bit at once! I have a friend who has been helping me with the research who has a much firmer understanding of both electricity and hardware, but he will be out of town for the next week and I would like to get a bit of progress on this while he is gone. SO, I shall consult the hive mind known as the internet. Alright, this project consists of creating an uplink between a remote shed, and a home in a nearby city, with a broadband connection. The rub, there is 10,000 ft mountain range in between the two. We have a site were we can put a repeater node at approx. 10,000 ft elevation, that has wonderful line-of-sight to both locations. However, this site is very remote, and will have to run off the grid obviously. The distances are as follows: Home to repeater: 3.96 miles (thats with Google Earth following the contours of the mountain/valley, not sure how to make it just do a straight angled shot, so thats a rough estimate) Repeater to Remote shed: 2.68 miles (same issue) Background environment info: shed has generator + 60w solar array with 3-4 deep discharge lead RV batteries at 7400 feet. Has spring fed running water, which could be utilized for power as well, as obviously its always running. Repeater location is at 10k, as stated. Moderate to high winds very likely (data from peaks of similar altitude in the general area show gusts ranging from 40-60 mp/h, temperature ranges of averaging 7 to 90+ for a the later part of July and August (F). Obviously, its very possible to get soemething below this, though the lowest Ive ever seen at the shed has been -15 (f), I would say most winters we could get a few nights that see temps below 0, but not often. Equipment Ideas: So to pull this off, we have come up with two ideas for the network equipment, which I shall discuss 1st, then I will show you what we have come up with for power. - Network - Repeater Node: rb433 wireless access point ($99.00) http://www.routerboard.com/pricelist.php?showProduct=43 with 2 r52h mini PCI wifi chips ($59.00 x2) http://www.routerboard.com/pricelist.php?showProduct=69 2 8-18 inch satelite dishs converted for long-range WIFI use (20.00 x2) http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/15/how-to-build-a-wifi-biquad-dish-antenna/ OR instead of a rb433, we could use 2 WRT54G Linksys routers like this. (I also have 2 BEF 801.11b routers that are legacy to the WRT54G. I would like to use this if possible! http://hackaday.com/2005/08/23/how-to-greyhat-wifi-repeater/ Now, I know that this later choice would increase power use by about double. From what I have been able to find, the WRT's would at anywhere from 4.2w to 8w of power. Anyways, I like this later choice because it would be significantly cheaper for the equipment, but do you have any other ideas? I know that the RB433 would work great, but its rather expensive all said and done after I throw up the power as well. Plus, if it takes a lighting strike, its out of commission, and 2 cheap linksys routers are much cheaper to replace! Anyways any input here would be great! - Power so power to the repeater node is the real challenge. We crunched the numbers and came up with something almost exactly the same as below: From the datasheets, a routerboard will draw between 6-10W. So design for 10W. Over 24 hours you will need 10Wx24h = 240 Watt.Hours of power. For 7 days, you need 7x240Wh = 1680 Watt.Hours. A single, large deep cycle 110Ah 12V battery gives you about 1320 Watt.Hours of power, almost meeting the requirement. Now, to look at the solar panels: A good rule of thumb is to install 6 times the wattage that is drawn by the device. This is because only about 8 hours a day in sunny weather gives you maximum power output from a solar panel. So the other 16 hours you need to draw from the battery. (So already you need 3 times the wattage drawn by the device to break even each day) To generate 1 full day of extra battery power per sunny day, you need another 3 times the wattage. This is how we arrive at 6 times. 6 x 10W = 60W. So at a minimum I would recommend 60W of solar panels. That qoute comes from http://diywifilink.wordpress.com/ and http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?179547-Advice-needed-Setting-up-wifi-repeater-11km which is a project from a guy in South Africa almost exactly the same as the one that we are working on. The numbers came out to be about the same (Though they were a bit different when we calculated for the WRT54G option.) so, 60w of power generation to keep a decent charge on a battery. Now, we have a 60w panel at the shed, which is rather large to take up to 10,000 ft and place on the side of a mountain, and given the consistent wind element up there, we are hoping to do a hybrid system of both solar and wind. This is where things get tricky. A perfect balance, or even a more wind heavy balance would be great, such as 30-40w wind 20-30w solar. That keeps the panel size down, and uses a power source that runs 24/7. A Faroun Savonius wind turbine seems like the best system, but the controller to prevent overcharging etc is where I get nice and lost, having breached into very unknown territory. https://www.instructables.com/id/Faroun-Savonius-Wind-Turbine/ http://www.fieldlines.com/board/index.php/topic,129060.html This looked at 1st like a good, cheap system to use a controller board for the wind, but my question is would the controller board that comes with these solar panels (see below) work for both. That below is the setup that we use more or less at the shed, with some mods, such as a better alternator. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11298029&search;=solar&Mo;=5&cm;_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search⟨=en-US&Nr;=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp;=S&N;=4001192&whse;=BC&Dx;=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk;=Text_Search&Dr;=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne;=4000000&D;=solar&Ntt;=solar&No;=3&Ntx;=mode+matchallpartial&s;=1&topnav;=&Nty;=1&s;=1 So, can a small, 30-50w wind turbine and generator be built, with a small solar array to power this thing? I dont care if we have some down time, this is primarily going to be used as a system to get a weather station with web cam to send in hourly photos during the peak hours. I can have the system at the shed shutdown automatically using some cron jobs in linux during the evening to conserve power. When there are people at the shed, we would like to be able to get a good enough wifi connection to use a wifi device (such as an android phone or ipod) to use as a voip phone in essential communication. The teenagers aren't going to be chatting with their friends for hours, but we would like to be able to put a short call through in case something goes wrong, or we just need to get ahold of someone at the shed or in the city. Next the equipment at the shed should be comparable to the repeater node, sans 1 antenna and just some low power embedded system. We would like to get a webcam and weather station hooked up on this end, but that can wait for upgrades later if needed, if power doesnt allow it. like I said, a simple water turbine could be used (something similar to the wind turbine perhaps?) and even another wind turbine could be built to add extra power dedicated to running any system at the shed, though I dont think the wind is quite regular enough to be viable here, but if its cheap, we could throw it on anyways. equipment at the home in the city is simple, just use an extra laptop or desktop we have laying around to be server/router, hook up antenna to this, broadcast connection, run the weatherstation/webcam web server off of this. So, thats the plan, but load of input is needed to try to come up with this. We hope to try to keep this sub $1000.00, but the budget could go higher. This is DIY at its finest! Thanks in advance for you help!

By a real pump action i meen it loads the round not pulls back the ram. the idea was to have a crossbow type thing. have it shoot green connectors. the pump has a claw that has hands made out of hindges. when you have somthing in the claws path that goes inside of the claw and will move the claw hands out to let go of the round. and the thing out side of the claw hands the make it grab the round. so first you lode the rounds green connectors. then you pull the pump back so that it grabs the green connector. the green connector has a rubberband on it. when you pump back the green connector is pulld back and loaded. the claw hands then go over the thing that makes them let go of the round.the next green connector is loaded. the green connector is put in place by the mag. when the greenconnector is fired it slides over the nexted one loaded and leaves the rubberband on the next green connector. then you pump agein and the prosses starts all over again for as long as you want.

I think any 1 who has made a basic PCP rifle is sick and tired of pumping up their rifles ea shot... or at least i have :). I can't come up with a way to solve this problem without attaching my rifle to an air compressor. But the other day I was brain storming and I came up with an idea, what if we had 2 tanks, which were connected via a thin pipe so it takes a fairly long time for them both to arrive at the same air pressure.(refer to picture), yeah so dose any 1 have an constructive criticism to dish out?

I've been working on this gun a long time while bouncing ideas off Mepain. It's a TRUE semi-auto in the fact that all you need to fire a shot is to put the piece in the gun and pull the trigger. I was able to unload a full magazine in less than 10 seconds. I'm a lot more likely to post instructions on this gun than the last two, because this gun works so nicely.Holds 13 shots.Shoots up to 40 feet.Shoots grey connectors.

Welcome to this fourm, this fourm is about a breach loaders, if you have made any feel free to post (this dose not mean mag gun for the whole point is to help 1 shots/ sniper rifles get a easy load that is acurate fast im gessing at one point in time almost everyone made a 1 shot. But 1 shots have not evolved much, its all almost the same, pull fireing pin back and "muzzle load" it (with some exeptions of folding and back loading it)but wile loading the thing sometimes it fires, so it would hit your hand or your face (and my spring powered rifles have done so) , the solution? simple somehow get the thing to load without ever geing you to look at the barrel, sniper rifles usaly have it hard for they have long barrels (not including mepains) and take a long time to muzzle load the bullet. a faster way would be to breach load itso on this fourm posably post pictures of ideas you have of breach loading and if it somehow makes it more acurate. but just no old mag guns for the idea is to help make a fast and easy way to load. example this sniper rifle i made heres a video

I know you folks must have seen this question many times, but I still have to ask: my electric lawnmower tripped the circuit breaker (I suspect due to excessively long grass), and kept tripping it after I reset the breaker. The weird thing about it is that each time I reset the breaker and restart the lawnmower, the motor would actually start and run for half a second, before the breaker trips again. I infer that means the motor itself is not shot, and possibly not the rectifier either? Can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance!?

I have a question for the electronics gurus out there. I have a circuit that I want to activate for a set length of time (I'm using a 555 timer for this) when a door is closed and not operate again until the door is opened and then closed again. I'm an electronics newbie. The one-shot 555 circuits I have seen rely on using a momentary switch, but in this case the switch will remain closed as long as the door is so the circuit will remain active. Are there switches available that will close and open while remaining fully depressed? Or is there an equivalent circuit that will work with an ordinary momentary switch? Two more things: the door is very small so the solution must be small; also the circuit will run on batteries so the solution can't be a power drain. Thanks in advance, I hope this makes sense to someone! Kerry

I remember reading about Nerf guns once, and there was a site called "Nerf Haven". It was a pretty popular site and they would have "Nerf wars" a couple times a year. In these wars they would get together someplace and just play with their Nerf guns. So I was thinking "Why not do this with Knex?".So who thinks this could be a possibility for the future? People could go to show off their creations, compete in contests, but the main reason to go would be to have a Knex war. It would also be a great way to answer some questions like:Are MGs worth the long reload? Are powerful single shots or guns with magazines better?Do tiny guns have a place in battle?Tell we what you guys think, maybe this could be the future of Knex guns =P

So in the real world the point of a bullpup design is to either reduce the overall length of a gun, or to have the same length of gun but with a longer barrel, which results in a higher velocity bullet which can go further. Another often added bonus is that the gun is more balanced weight wise around the handle, making it easier to handle. Now to crush your dreams. Not a single on of those advantages carries over to knex guns. Not one. A bullpup knex gun will only end up longer(yes LONGER), use more parts, have theoretically lower range, it is less balanced, and more complicated with more things that can go wrong. With a knex gun, you want as short of a barrel as possible for the shot to go through, so that there is as little friction as possible on it. This is one reason that turret guns can be so powerful. Now with a bullpup design, you almost automatically have to add a longer barrel, as the shot has to leave the action area AND go over your handle/trigger mech. Not good. The gun will be less balanced because now basically the entire gun is behind the handle, unless you put some fat barrel on the front to balance it out, but then that breaks the first point I talked about, as well as using many more parts and defeating the purpose of being a shorter weapon. Most ram guns now are mostly balanced, as the handle is usually in the middle of the gun, as the ramrod has to be pulled behind it as well as going in front of it, so you place the handle and trigger as close to the middle so as to make the trigger simpler. Now as to why making a knex bullpup will make it longer, just look at the pictures. It will make sense then. Also this is why you need many more parts for a gun like this. Also the stock becomes disgustingly long. And finally, this is more of a design issue than a complete flaw, but the trigger is usually(USUALLY) weaker and more prone to failure/not working correctly with a bullpup gun. Now this doesn't apply to everthing. Slingshot guns and repeating slingshot guns actually benefit from a bullpup design, that will actually make them shorter and more balanced, because they are more similar to real guns in their layout in that the shot/magazine is the farthest part back in the mechanism. Also replicas, well duh. The pictures should make this all make more sense. And I assumed a build for performance, so the pin draw is long and the magazine is as far away from the pin as possible. Because all knex guns should be built like that.

Here is my Knex mp5. It shot 40FT using two long bands. I only had one loose rubberband on it during the pictures. It has an internal ram rod cocking system with pin guide. Its seven layers thick, it has that fancy wall coat on the other side to. It has a true trigger, and also a magazine release (I got lazy and didn't make a safety). Its really sturdy and very fun to shoot. It did have a magazine at one point in its life, but I took it apart to help start a different gun. Its very comfortable to hold. Its a little fat in places, and its stock is a little off due to the internal pin guide, but I didn't care its close enough...

I've been working on this project for about a year now, the first stages of the design started like 5 or 6 years ago. It is a full auto 19 stage no-capacitor coilgun. The accelerator is 3ft long! It will use an advanced coil timing system that should allow more efficient acceleration. The custom 3d printed magazines will hold about 90 shots, maybe a little more. It should be capable of firing at a rate of several thousand rpm but I might tune it down to ~500 rpm to keep it cooler running and make the ammo last. If you want to read more about this design you can see the page on my website: http://www.ourbadscience.com/#!em-guns/cwjy Here is a video showing the current progress on the coilgun:

Where is the cheapest place to get an extruder for a 3D printer? It must be premade (preferably a DC motor, not a stepper), and cannot require that I buy separate 3D printed parts. Unfortunately, I cannot use Ebay, however, I can use most other online retailers. It must be below $50, and if thats not possible, is there any way to make one with commonly avaliable parts (no 3D printed ones or milled parts), also cheap? It does have to be fairly small, but need not use the premade spools of plastic, if an epoxy or solething else exists that would also work. (and I have already seen the glue gun extruder instructable here, that is far too big and heavy) I know that most of this is a long shot, but I'm hoping someone knows/has heard of one of these.

This is a modification of the sling shot prototype made by Katarukito's (I hope i spelt that right) knex prototype sling shot knex gun. It can pierce cardboard at fifteen feet away with one band and twenty to thirty feet away with two rubberbands (UNSHARPENED BULLET) I modified the barrel with a new barrel, that may look ugly but if you want i can take off the blue and red connectors that make the humps/ scales of what i call... Dragon Head Knex Gun DHKG well i didn't intend on putting those there but it turned out as a dragon and well, i went with it... the barrel doesn't bend and when or if i do post it, all credits go to Katarukito! Enjoy! Sorry for the blurry pictures it was night time and i had to pee like a race horse... Pic 1: The bullet - A red rod or tan rod with tan clip Pic 2: Front view (DRAGON HEAD) - Front of the gun where rubberbands go Pic 3: Another front view (Barrel) - Front of the gun better picture Pic 4: A view of the back (Part of Kataturi's knex gun prototype moded) - View of barrel and handle Pic 5: Better picture of back (Katarukito's prototype still able to be seen, just modified) Pic 6: Full gun - (the full DHKG) - Aprox. Two to two and half feet long ~ Pic 7: A view of the gun loaded - Gun is loaded Pic 8: A view of the gun loaded from the front Pic 9: Back of the gun with sights

I haven't posted anything for a few months, and I decided to begin work on something that would blow everyone away. My goal was to create the most efficient, most power, most versatile mag fed knex rifle ever. I discovered a way to do that when I came up with the Bullet Transfer System (BTS) that you saw in my BTPA pump action rifle. However, the BTPA had a several drawbacks. The first was the size of it. It was just way too big. Second was that the ammo it shot was connector ammo, and would start spinning out very quickly. Last was that the ram barely had any time to accelerate, as the bullet was placed right above the handle. I suddenly thought of a design that would solve these problems, quickly drew them out, and began work. The result was the most efficient, versatile, and powerful mag fed gun ever made, the Vice CKG. CKG stands for Compact Knex Gun, and I am truly proud if it. The trigger is a variation of Zak's so I give him credit for that. So exactly how efficient is this gun? I was able to get 60+ feet with a string of two #64s with the long range round. The yellow rods get around 50 feet, only because they spin out after a while, but with two #64s unsharpened yellows can go right through a box from a few feet away. What's the secret to this incredible efficiency? First off, the firing pin is a grey rod+a gray connector long, giving it that extra room to accelerate. Second, the trigger is as far back as possible. Third, the rods are placed as far away from the ram, giving it time to accelerate. Finally, the BTS allows the bullet to stay in place with nearly no contact between the bullet and the gun. THIS IS THE MOST POWERFUL, EFFICIENT, AND VERSATILE MAG FED GUN OUT THERE. (I know that statement may sound a little bold, but I am very confident in saying it) Pros 60+ feet range single shot with two #64s 50 feet range with yellows with two #64s Extremely versatile (perfect for long and close range) Looks great 15 yellow rod mag capacity You will dominate the battlefield Cons Reload time (for me anyways) This video is a little out of date, I have made some upgrades since it was made/

Ok, so I've done a little searching and so far no one has said this can be done without expensive equiptment so I'm not getting my hopes up. Here's my idea: Place my flowers in a container with silica gel, seal it, and put the whole thing in a deep freezer for a couple weeks. Then I would unplug the freezer to allow the temperature to slowly rise. I THINK the silica gel will eliminate the need for a vacuum by absorbing the moisture instead of pulling it out. Its a long shot, I know. Has anyone tried this? Does anyone think it would work? Has anyone found another way to preserve flowers so they maintain their shape and color? I plan on coating them in resin to use in jewelry designs so they need to look as fresh as possible. Thanks for any ideas you can give me!

Hi guys, i want to build a storm 223, having finally posted my 222. However, i can't think what mode of fire/type of gun/trigger/ammo to use. So i thought i'd let you guys help me :) I am holding a vote; anyone can vote for one of the categories below. everyone only gets one vote, but votes for one of each of the classes. -EDIT- Ok guys I sorry about not getting the pictures up but I do have an explanation. the picture shown was taken with my father's camera as I still cannot find the charging cable for mine. He "needs" his camera for work so I must wait indefinitely until I can "borrow" it to get some more pictures --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Modern Warfare 2 confiscated? No computer or tv until 4 o'clock? what am I supposed to do? Well here's the result of about 3 hours of boredom. Its a single shot shotgun that fires shells, however these shells are a red rod long and hold 3 white rods, plus reloading takes less than 10 seconds with a bit of practice. Range isn't too impressive, roughly 5 metres for 3 white rods and up to about 10 for a yellow. More pictures will be up once I have finished exams on Friday this week, 45º handles FTL!!!

This little prototype (the Handle Pump Pistol [HPP] / Mini Support Weapon [MSW]) came out of an idea I found in this forum topic. TD said to KILLERK: "Seeing how the main drawback to this weapon is its single shot with long reload, might as well throw a mini shotgun on it." And then it struck me, I should try that as a tribute to my friend KILLERK. This is the start of that project. It is a handle pump true trigger under-barrel pistol (XD, say that ten times fast). I thought you guys might like to help me out with it. It has two main problems. Problem 1) Pin-pull is not good enough to get any range Prob elm 2) No magazine / loading area. -The Red Book of Westmarch (NOTE: this forum topic was written in haste, words might be misspelled, capitalization might be off, punctuation might not be correct, ect. I will elaborate later.)

Hello, This is a very, very long shot . . . When I was young I bought a second-hand record originally from the 70's or very early 80's . . . I have no idea what happened to it but almost weekly I think about how to hear it again . . I have stopped myself from asking in Answers for several years but today is the day. As far as I remember it had an album cover with a plain beige border, inside the border was a drawing of an art nouveaux type woman woman with flowing clothing. The theme was all Hari Krishna but not an actual Hari Krishna record. Lyrics such as " there is a distant place called sweet something, where silent something something, . . . Beneath a snowy ocean lying wide lies something something . . . " there was a lot of Govinda going on. I've tried looking for album cover on Google images. I've tried typing in all the lyrics that I can remember. No luck . . . any ideas anyone. And, no, it's not Kula Shaker, although I do actually like that track. Thank you

Hello, This is a long shot but has anyone here had experience with SplatMasters? I bought two of these guns about 15 years ago, second-hand and they have never worked. They dry fire perfectly but the problem comes when I load a CO2 bottle; it leaks. Is this a known fault and can it be remedied? The bottle is punctured on the spike, as it should, then proceeds to hiss and empty immediately. There was nothing around the spike when I bought them so I tried various items ranging from inner tube to gas o-rings, until I ran out of expensive CO2 bottles. It may be possible that the gas is seeping from another part of the gun; Any ideas? Also, according to the photo with the red background I can see that every part seems to be there except a small spring and a ball detent; Can I simply make one from a pen spring and a ball bearing? Any help appreciated as I would dearly love to have fun with these. Thank You
