Bug? Instructable losing views.

One of my instructables, decided to lose 100 views or so on it's own on both the 'ible stat and my published page, for no apparent reason.  I only noticed as gmjhowe and I are in a views race so I've been paying particular attention to them but it's definitely and odd problem.

Are Americans Losing Touch with DIY Skills?

Click for Full Story*Link Fixed*Science-fiction author Robert A. Heinlein once wrote: "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."...Are hands-on skills — building things, fixing things, operating machines and so on — really in decline?...Does this matter? And if people are becoming less mechanically handy, is that so bad? I think so — and not just because specialization is for insects. We don't all have to be MacGyver, but from time to time all of us will face problems that can't be addressed with a laptop and a cellphone. In a genuine emergency, having some basic manual skills could be the difference between surviving comfortably and being totally helpless. That is a very interesting article. What do you think about it?

Lost item finder?

Is there some instructable for this? Basically, just a penny sized sticker that can be placed on any item. If lost, then a device could easily scan for them (5 feet radius range, maybe) I've searched for systems like this, but they're all expensive.  It should be pretty simple, maybe passive RFID tags, and some kind of device that detects if it is closer or farther. I've checked on reader, but any cheap ones are in the $160 range and 3 inch distance. Long distance ones are like 500 and above. Except readers aren't really necessary. There isn't really any information that needs to be read. Just a way to tell if the signal is closer. Something like that could probably made in the $20 range but i wouldn't know I'm asking cause I lost the memory card for my camera (case and all). It was sitting on a desk, then it wasn't. It had some vacation photos that i hadn't transfered to PC yet. It was a grueling search, and I couldn't find it.  At some point in our lives, everyone needs something like that. Losing something important sucks, expensive or not.

Entry Moderating Time

How long does it take for them to decide wether my contest entry should be accepted or not? I submitted entry "A" to contest "A", and I submitted entry "B" to contests "B", "C", and "D" only an hour after entry "A". Entry "A" got accepted into contest "A" in 17 hours, entry "B" got rejected from contest "B" in 20 hours, and it's been over 2 days and I have not heard anything about contests "C" or "D".  How long will this process take?

Losing rollover comments when images are small? Answered

I've got images in my instructable with rollover comments. Two questions: 1.  what exactly are those called? 2.  when the image is shrunk on the instructible, it doesn't show the rollovers for the image.  Is there a way to make them show up? In this screenshot of https://www.instructables.com/id/Cheap-Sturdy-1-Hour-Quadcopter All three images have comments, but the overlays don't show up in the smaller images. Many TIA!

Why am I losing my changes?

Editing an unpublished instructable, every so often I discover that the changes I've been making have disappeared, and I have a previous version of my text. I save often, and the autosave also saves often. Despite this, an obsolete version of the text may suddenly appear, and most unwelcome it is too. I'm on OSX 10.5, running Firefox. Occasionally, doing a Google query for instance, I get asked if I really want to navigate away from the current page, and I back off, opening a new tab instead. This evening, when my session expired, the Bot offered to take me to the login page but immediately raised the "navigate away" warning. I opened another tab and logged in there, then returned to my work which seemed okay. It was a few edits after that that all my new work disappeared. What can I do, if saving isn't enough to preserve my work?

What would cause a brushed motor to lose strength? Answered

Hi gang, My wife used her mixer to make two pounds of dough for years, but recently the motor would struggle and eventually stop.  The only way to use the mixer now is to make smaller batches of dough. I took a look under the hood, and all seems OK.  The brushes on the motor are clean and making good contact, the cooling fan moves air over the motor as it should, all the gears were well lubricated and moved freely, nothing was broken. What made the motor lose it's mojo?  Is there a way for me to make it strong again?

Is aluminium lose its electrical conductivity when it is oxidised ? Answered

I have a soil moisture probe that is generally use for gardening projects. So I read some articles that tell about oxidation of this probes in a week. I wanna make soil moisture sensors that I can use it in my experiments and you know inexpensiveness is important rule of DIY :). I planned to use aluminium plates as resesitive soil moisture sensor but I have still some doubt that oxidation of aluminium affects to conductivity or not ?  I will use the sensors for a year or at least 7-8 months. So I worry that couldn't measure soil moisture properly.

I think I am starting to really lose it....

I was building the "Evasive Beeping Thing" from Make. A search through all of my "parts" finally got me resistors and caps of approximately the correct values I wanted *even though they are not specified in the article :-( ". After nearly a fortnight, I finally was ready to test it. hooked up a nine volt battery, and.....nothing. Fearing the worse, I touched the 555 IC...and it was hot as blazes. 2 days of inspecting the circuit and trying to make sure no shorts were occurring, I finally gave up and unsoldered the whole thing. I then through together a quick 555 timer circuit using an ic socket, in order to test if I had destroyed my IC. That didn't work at first (but just in case, I tried a 555 I knew was good, and that did work). Just before throwing out the assumed defunct 555, I looked at it under a brighter light (and low and behold, on the IC was written in very small worn type: 741. It was an op-amp ! I could have screamed....*sigh*. Oh well, at least I got a tester out of the deal LOL *sigh*

Sanding wood smooth without losing rustic saw marks

I've searched for an answer but can't find one. Hoping someone can help me out with this. I recently picked up some old wood boards, about 3" thick, 4' long, and a foot wide. They're fairly old and have that warm weathered look of old raw wood. On one side you can see the nice circular saw marks from when they were milled. They're also very splintery, and I got plenty of splinters when I moved them. My goal: preserve their rustic beauty while making them into usable wood for furniture. I want the surface smooth enough that splinters aren't an issue. How can I sand the boards so they are smoother a micro level, but don't lose the beautiful saw marks? Ideally I'd keep that weathered color, but I suspect I'll lose at least some of that due to sanding and will have to fake it with stain. Thanks a ton for any help! Josh

What would cause a fresh, tree-ripened lemon to lose it's flavor?

A friend recently gifted me with a dozen beautiful lemons, picked right from his trees.  I juiced a couple and got nearly 1/2 cup from each lemon but the juice tastes almost nothing like lemons.  The flavor is remotely citrus but not at all what a lemon is supposed to taste like. What would cause this? Does anyone know?

How can you increase the range of a servo without losing the positioning feedback system?

I am trying to use them for the joints of a robotic arm. I have the Towerpro mg996r servo. Also the servo won't attain full ranged that can be reached when turning it by hand. By hand I can turn it about 240 degrees but through a micro-controller (arduino mega 2560) it only turns about 180 degrees. If it can get the range that I can get by hand that would also be enough. I might be using the incorrect code or something, not sure exactly what the problem is. I would greatly appreciate any help or ideas.

Orphan Works Or, How You May Lose All the Rights to Every Piece of Art You Have Ever Created!

There is an up coming bill in congress that will change copyright laws. saying that if you want to copyright your work you will have to register it and pay a fee for it to private registration companies. With the tens of millions of photos and pieces of artwork created each year, the bounty for forcing everyone to pay a registration fee would be enormous. We lose our rights and our creations, and someone else makes money at our expense. This includes every sketch, painting, photo, sculpture, drawing, video, song and every other type of creative endeavor. All of it is at risk!go to this link for more information and spread the word:orphan act

Has anyone else noticed they are losing data from unpublished instructables you may be working on? Answered

For a while now while I am working on an unpublished instructable the auto save function I believe is backfiring.  Instead of saving it actually deletes whole sections.  I thought oh well, I can always go to the history section and copy/paste or click revert.  To my horror it deletes the text from that step all the way back to step one, aaaaaaaaaaah.  I thought perhaps that this was isolated, to the one you might be working on.  Nope, when I opened a second one I had been working on, the intro has now been deleted.  Yes, including in the history as well....
