Here's a movie of a gorgeous, useless marble moving machine. Check out the guy's marble machine website as well; he's got a lot of discussion about raising marbles and making marble movement machines. He has built several others as well but this was my favorite, probably because of the lovely wooden musical noises created by the falling marbles.

Just had this idea, and in a flurry of building, I have a prototype. It's a knex machine that plays the xylophone. Right now, it can only play five notes eight times. I am hoping to increase this. In the photo, the machine is rigged to play the opening of the Imperial March :D

I'm trying to knit a sweater-vest that has a two color repeating design. I'd like to use a knitting machine because I am trying to recreate a sweater-vest from a movie, and it looks like using a knitting machine is the best way to go. I know next to nothing about knitting machines, but I've seen them on eBay and Craigslist for pretty cheap (Like, less than $50.) but I have no idea what I need. What's a good, cheap, knitting machine? Also, what's the deal with punch cards? I don't really know what they're for. Can someone explain this all to me? Thanks so much, I can't wait to see what responses I get. You guys are awesome.

Hello fast question, I have a cricut expression, and unfortunately since it no longer words with "sure cuts a lot" or any of the other custom software applications, does anyone know if I could simply hack the machine to accept usb commands from the computer to cut custom shapes?

While visiting my grandmother last week in beautiful New Jersey, I found The Breakfast Machine, a combination compact toaster oven, frying pan, and coffee maker all in one. At first glance, I thought it was a pretty funny combination, but it's actually quite efficient--the same heat that toasts the bread also fries the eggs. I, of course, had to take the machine apart a little, and you can see the same heating strips that you'll find in any toaster oven are the only source of heat for the frying pan.One question, though: how are you supposed to remove the frying pan without a handle?Once you have your breakfast machine, the next step is to hook it up to your alarm clock (see discussion here) and you'll be up in no time!

Ok i have this book its the Military small arms encyclopedia for 1900-2000 of military small arm guns. In this book i was looking at the machine gun section and looked at one its a Skoda M1909 belt fed machine gun mounted on a tripod, and has a frontal shield protecting the operator. Im working on a design for it right now, although i am quite short of pieces because i need to make the cooling canister and the body, then the tripod. Then ill need a shitload of pieces for the belt

If anyone here has seen Irobot ( which you must have to be on instructables ) are familliar with the line "ghosts in the machine" which basically means there are always thigns/ functions we cannot explain. What do you think about this, how long until we make machines that truly "think for themselves, and can strategize to overthrow us. Recently in a podcast i listened to, the host talked about a robot that was created, and could "think" for itself. It has already though up and tested it's own theories. ( a bit scary ) Basically the point of metioning this, is to help people realize we have already taken the first step. Now the question is, how long until we outdo ourselves, end up in virtual worlds and the earth is one giant farm that the robots use to farm us for power?

The robots have gone back in time and taken over the funk! FULL DISCLOSURE: I listened to a ton of James Brown during my senior year in college and seeing a sci-fi/JB mashup is amazing to me. I also re-fell in love with "Appetite for Destruction" the same year. It was a good time.

It isn't that long ago that explaining human physics and behavior was imagined by copper etching. This picture seems funny to us now. But 100 years ago this was the way to explain the functions in the human head. I found this picture in an old book and I want to share it with you. This is nice for silkscreening or transfer print at T-shirt or any other surface. When you want High-Res 2208 × 2732 and 300 dpi let me know.

I am wanting to make a sorting machine for my autistic son, so he can learn how to tell different materials from each other & also different colors from each other. I know that there are a few things that I want in it & also a few things that I am sure that I will need but I need a little assistance on how to go about it. I know that it will need a load sensor for the weight detection, & light sensors for detecting the color (I'm not too sure that is what I'll need), & I am not sure how to make it detect the materials though. To give a small overview of how I want it to work is that he will place the colored block (he has some that are foam, some are wood, & some plastic ones) or a toy car (die cast) & he will drop them into a hopper that has a conveyor belt that will drop the toy onto a lever that will slide the toy onto a scale w/ a sensor to tell the color (or stripes) on the toy & also it will then be swept to the next station where it will tell the material the toy is made of & then drop it in the proper hopper. I would also like indicator lights to show where things are going to show him what's going on if he'd like to watch. Can I get some help on this please.

I've noticed that there has been a recent rise of ball machines being made by the k'nexers. I think this is great. I personally love ball machines and have made 4 of them. I am currently working on a 5th one which is approximately 170 cm. or 67 inches tall. It has 4 paths so far. Comment if you are currently building or planning a ball machine.

Is there a machine or something you can make where you can plug in sound effects files and then as you push different buttons it will play the effects on cue? I have been searching and can't seem to find anything. Thanks for the help.
