Can I use masonry paint on a car ? Answered

Hello, I want to rat my car up with army drab paint. It's on a budget. I found the perfect flat matt colour but it's a masonry paint. I have read about these paints; they are flexible; they are breathable but don't let water under the surface.; they are long lasting. So, if I key the car first and clean it; it would seem logical, on some level ,  that masonry would be suitable. I tried to research this but the entries are about mainly people trying to get splashed masonry paint off their cars; so to that degree it seems to adhere well. While this will be a rat car; I do actually want it to stay on; the finish is less important. Any thoughts ? Thanks

Will calcium silicate building stone work as a foundation for a forge or will they crack with the heat?

I'm looking to build a forge, and I was hoping to use the same bricks that are on the outside of my house. They're Calcium Silicate stones, I don't know if they're meant for fire, because they're primarily decorative on houses these days. Will these crack/ explode in a charcoal fired forge?

How can I repair water damaged exterior bricks?

Solid brick home has suffered severe winter with water damage causing some bad flaking and literal breakage of bricks in two places. Shallow damage in area of about 3' x 3' on outside of chimney; deeper, more severe damage affecting maybe six bricks in one corner near the ground where large chunks have cracked off. The house is painted brick, built in 1937 with a layer of brick outside, a layer of concrete, and then another layer of brick inside, so the exterior walls are brick clear through to the interior. There is some water leakage into the basement from the corner damage.

building cinderblock wall... questions questions questions

I'm considering building a small cinderblock wall off of an existing concrete slab.  I have very little clue what I'm doing, but I'm a fast learner. Question #1: Do I need rebar to hold the blocks, or is mortar mix enough?  They won't be "weight bearing" as it will only be a partial wall around 3' tall.  If I do need rebar... hammer drill? all the way through slab? pound rebar in?  Note that the blocks will be just about flush with the edge of the slab. Question #2: The area I want to create a wall for is covered with a roof (four- 4"x4" posts, about 10' x 12'... roof is around 12' high) so the blocks will butt up right next to wooden posts... is this kosher? I guess in my mind, this precludes a cornerstone, and makes the courses hard to offset (I don't know what to call that... the center of the second course blocks sit on the edges of the bottom course blocks), and what is a good way join block to wood? Question #3: Can I use the small blocks (4x8x16) or will they just topple over (see question #1 again), and if I should use the normal cinder blocks, how do I make a corner with 4x4 posts already there? ...likely more questions to come :)

Latex paint vs acrylic emulsion ? Answered

This has bugged me for a while. I see reference to Latex pain in the USA - Does anyone know if this is the same as what we Brits call acrylic emulsion paint? The only Latex paint I am aware of in the UK is masonry paint.

Murphy Bed Challenge - concrete wall?

I am moving into a former jeweler's office loft. Awesome! Not so awesome:  everything was built for MAX security. This means these jewelers installed concrete on walls around their safes.  This includes my new "bedroom" which is on the other side of a 10 foot safe. I am attaching a pic with some notes on it to show you the challenge I am having. Since I wanted to  use a murphy bed, I found this tutorial here: https://www.instructables.com/id/A-Murphy-Bed-Installed-Sideways/ However, I do not have a murphy bed frame with which to do this. My bed weighs about 100-ish lbs and is a queen sized memory foam bed. For the masonry/concrete issue, I am considering mounting the murphy bed to the floor, as shown in the aforementioned tutorial. Here are my concerns:  1) How do I drill into concrete and masonry? What tools are best for this job? 2) Since I don't have a murphy bed frame, how do I properly build one? 3) Can I get shocks or springs going on this thing to make it easier to fold into the wall? 4) How can I get the folding-action just right? This room is SMALL, it only really is going to fit my bed.

Instructable blocked at my school

Instructables is blocked at my school. I had it unblocked at one point, and since then it is again blocked. How do I convince the higher ups, principal and IT personnel, that this is a website that the school should be able to access. I teach at a school that teaches high school age students trades like welding, culinary arts, carpentry, graphic design, automotive technology, machine tool, metal fab, masonry, business, nursing, agriculture, and cosmetology. I think I hit all the classes. Instructables would be a great site for students or classes to showcase their work. Suggestions?

What's the best way to attach nails to each other? Answered

I have a bunch of cut masonry nails and I would like to make a mask out of them. Here's the catch: The design I have in mind requires that they're only attached in the head area (Ex. VVVVV), because I need there to be gaps in between the nails; this also requires that I don't just glue them onto a regular plastic mask. I have some ideas about using hot glue, JB Weld, and solder/welding, but I any advice from people that have any experience in the matter would be appreciated. Thanks!

Helium Tank Aluminum Foundry

I was looking through the internet, and was linked to this page. There they used a freon can for the foundry shell, but I thought those small helium tanks would work too. I kinda knew that a dremel wouldn't cut through it, but it is just what I put on there. I used Inkscape and GIMP to make it.Also, does anyone know a good source for fire clay? I've heard that masonry supply stores are a good bet. Another thing - does anyone know a good page on a cheap, simple, charcoal foundry? I made a .gif animation describing my ideas, below. In the animation, I meant to put the part about cutting the hole for the blower in the beginning, too (after I cut the top off).

Let us assemble power distribution switches at home together.

I am an electronic engineer in the field of power distribution switches. In recent days, I am prepared to make a project for power distribution switches at home together.  The project begins now: Home decoration, the concern of hydropower indispensable. The laying of the home circuit is a crucial link, the home distribution box installation involves the safety of home appliances. Therefore, I specifically summarise the home distribution box installation knowledge, as well as home distribution box wiring diagram to make the relevant finishing, for everyone to take precautions, the home distribution box has a clear understanding. Home distribution switch installation points 1, Household distribution switch sub-metal shell and plastic shell two, there are two kinds of mounted and concealed, the box must be intact. 2, The household distribution switch of the cabinet wiring assembly should be set up to zero line, to protect the ground wire, phase line, and to be intact, with good insulation. 3, The installation of air switch seat should be clean and there is enough space, should be installed in the dry, ventilated parts, and no obstruction, easy to use. Never install the distribution box in the box to prevent fire. 4, The household distribution switch should not be installed too high, the general installation of the elevation of 1.8 meters, in order to operate; into the distribution switch of the electric tube must be fixed with a lock nut. 5, If the household distribution switch to be open, the edge of the hole to be smooth, smooth, distribution box buried in the wall should be vertical, horizontal, edge left 5 to 6 mm gap, distribution box wiring Should be rules, neat, the terminal screws must be tightened. 6, The loop into the line must be sufficient length, no joints, after installation marked the name of the use of the circuit, the installation of household distribution box to be completed after the removal of the distribution box residue. How to assemble power distribution switches at home ? 1, The installation of electrical box, distribution box installed on the wall, should be used bolts (expansion bolts) fixed, bolt length is generally buried depth (75 ~ 150mm), the thickness of the box floor, nuts and washers Of the sum of the thickness, plus about 5mm of the "margin". For smaller distribution boxes, it is also possible to embed a good brick at the installation site (in the form of a distribution box or a panel mounting hole) and then use wood screws to secure the distribution box or power distribution board. 2, Dark assembly distribution box, distribution box embedded in the wall installation, in the wall when the hole should be reserved than the length and width of the distribution box about 20mm, the depth of the distribution of the thickness of the distribution box with the wall Plaster thickness. In the masonry distribution box, the box and the wall filled with concrete can be fixed to the box live 3, The distribution box should be installed firmly, horizontal and vertical, vertical deviation should not be greater than 3mm; concealed, the distribution box should be around the gap, the edge of the panel should be close to the wall, the box and the building, Part should be coated with anti-corrosion paint. 4, The distribution box installed in the spiral fuse, the power cord should be connected to the middle of the terminal contact, the load line should be connected to the threaded terminal. In this way, in the loading and unloading fuse will not be electric shock. Porcelain plug-in fuses should be mounted vertically. 5, The distribution box of AC, DC or different voltage levels of power, should have a clear sign. Lighting line, should be set to zero line (N line) and protect the zero line (PE line) bus, zero line and protection of the zero line should be connected to the bus, not twisted, should be numbered. 6, The wire leads to the panel, the panel line hole should be smooth without burrs, metal panels should be installed insulation protective cover. Metal shell distribution box shell must be reliable grounding (then zero). Ps: Excuse me if I was wrong in words or expressions as I am a green hand in the field of power distribution switches. I need continual learnings. What is your idea ? Do you agree with my ideas ? Any of your ideas would be highly appreciated. May someone would like to help ? thanks in advance.
