I try to launch files that would autoplay with WMP, and nothing happens. Not even an error message. The same thing happens when I launch the exe of WMP. However, it will work if I run it as administrator. Then I can just Ctrl+O my files. It would just be more convenient if I didn't have to do this every time. Any help/idea of what's wrong?

I have an Archos 105, and I am tired of Windows Media Player freezing up whenever I plug in my mp3 or rip a cd. I downloaded VLC Media Player, but it doesn't register when I plug in my mp3.

I wanna find a universal media player running on Mac so I don't have to switch from one to another when playing different formats.

Ok, I was looking at this camera I just got (Flip Video Ultra) and I thought, "Gee, I wonder if I can play videos from my computer on it?" I got a converter (Mpeg Streamclip) and got it to convert to a .AVI file. It worked (after a quick name change... Who woulda thunk changing the name to VID0000# would work?)! Sort of...A few problems:1. video quality is iffy. It looks all... I don't know the term, but I'm going with random colors.2. no soundAny suggestions?(P.S. Apple's discontinued the ipod classic so rather than stock up while I still can I'm considering the alternative of making a raspberry pi powered mp3 player. I just want a pocket sized audio player with a capacity of 120gb or greater. I'd settle for just playing mp3s but something that could handle flac would be nice. I'm brand new to all of this so tell me if you guys think this will work... I am using utorrent and have downloaded movies. now when i go to watch them on wmp the video works but the sound is like r2d2 is talking. its all chopping and sounds like a robot. i downloaded windows movie maker and it plays fine on there but i cant get it to work on wmp.

You know the thing that appears on your taskbar when you minimize Windows Media Player? With all the buttons (play stop volume etc.)? Well it won't go on the taskbar anymore, it just minimizes like a normal window. The options to enable it as a tool bar is gone too (right click in taskbar>Toolbars>Suppose to say Windows Media Player here).

New to the forum so if an inappropriate post i apologize in advance. I am looking for or to build a simple device that will allow me to start and stop windows media player. Right now I have a simple batch file that opens windows media player in the full screen modes and plays a single video in the playlist. When it is finished it runs taskkill and closes. I use a wireless mouse to access the desktop icon that triggers the batch file. I would like to have a device that is plugged in with USB or wireless and has two buttons. One to start the video and one to stop it if I need to end it before it is finished. Ideally they would be big buttons labeled Go and Stop or colored Green and Red. I want children to be able to operate this computer. Does anyone have a clue if this exists in some form already or if it would be difficult to create? Thanks nerdoboy

I'm looking for an MP3 player, but i don't want to get an iPod. I was thinking the Creative Zen. I was looking around and I saw the 8 gig at Walmart for about $150. (I don't want to be badgered about Walmart or China or whatever) So does anyone have any idea on what should I get. It needs to work with Vista and Windows Media Player.

I use the mini-mode in WMP a lot, but the toolbar has somehow scooted itself across my screen, and has almost completely eaten my taskbar. Is there some easy way that I can't find to put it back in its rightful place?

I am running Vista on a dell inspiron laptop and have music playing on WMP latest version uptodate music is stuttering and skipping not smooth  choppy, this happens with all sources live cd or stored files. Iv tried everything and need advice if possible.

Basically, I bought a large aluminum camera case, big enough to hold a 22" led tv in the lid. I am going to mount the tv in the lid, thinking of just drilling the holes and mounting the tv directly to the lid. Any critiques or problems with that would be nice.Second, I'm going to mount a ps3, a portable media player (think Von Haus) which uses flash drives or portable hard drive via US, and a retropie system. Now where I'm running into trouble is two-fold. One is how to mount the items into the case. Foam would normally work well, but I'm worried about heat reduction, less so for the media player and more for the ps3 and retropie. I'm also worried about having it hardmounted onto the case via glue gun because of any shocks it might get while in transport. I also want to dremel out in the front and the back, and put in ports to be able to connect to an outside source as needed. Basically, I need a number of connectors which mount inside with the port leading out. USB 2/3, HDMI, RCA cable connector (RWY). I can find extension cables, but what I'm more looking for is, say for USB, a male lead on one end to connect to the ps3, and a female lead on the other end which sits inside case but is dremel'ed out to be able to connect a USB from the outside, basically a plate which I can just screw in. Every time I try to sync my Creative Zen V Plus with my Windows Media Player library, an error message pops up that says "sorry for the inconvenience", but if I move that aside, WMP runs fine. I then try to sync my songs with my player, but every time I do, the message "Preparing to sync" appears and nothing else happens. I try again and WMP says that my MP3 player is running slowly, but it's fine. I've synced with WMP before, this is a new problem. Help! Please!

I have been wanting to make an mp3 player out of these for some time now and the more I look at it, the more I realize it's a bit over my head. I have a few parts laying around. An 8" lcd from an under-counter dvd player, a zodiac media player with a broken lcd screen and satellite speakers w/ sub. Hello everyone I'm a complete newbie I'm afraid so sorry for asking for such help so early on! Im renovating an old vinyl cabinet I found in the salvos and turning into a dj deck for my new Vestax Typhoon. I need space for my laptop and midi mixer and would love to still have the original vinyl player on show somehow! Any ideas from the creative community I ideally want to dj from behind the speakers. Also I have plugged it in and I get some sound from the speakers and the volume knob still works but the radio does not. What is the best way to have the midi mixer hooked up to the speakers so I can play out of them? Im not sure of their quality and if they are rubbish when hooked up I can also replace them. Any electrical knowledge would be amazing and can just about wield a soldering iron! Much thanks in advance any ideas on colour schemes or extra add ons would be very welcome!! Sophie

Having just got a Java-enabled semi-smart phone, I would like some (free) and good apps to go with it.. It is touchscreen (with no keyboard) so that might effect your app choice.. Something cool, maybe even useful. A media player would be good.. and a fun game.

This laptop originally came with Windows 98, and played DVDs from its internal DVD player just fine. When I upgraded to Windows ME, some hardware drivers must have been lost, because it was never able to play DVDs again. Most programs would report that it was missing a hardware decoder, and so would require a software decoder. I would like to use the laptop as a media player in an out of the way location, and so am looking to revive its DVD capabilities. I've tried VLC, without success. Can you recommend other free programs that will work with old hardware and software? I'm unwilling to fuss with updating to a newer version of Windows. I would be willing to try a DVD or CD-bootable version of Linux, if it required very very limited web-searching for drivers.

I copied some old cassettes (vie my home audio system cassette player) into my laptop through the microphone jack input. BUT, when I burned the disk in Windows Media Player burner it won't play on my cd players! Only on the laptop or desktop computer players. I think it copied in WMA format (Windows Media Audio ) and I need to copy it in MP3 format. Anyone know an easy way to fix this? My iPhone records video in .MOV format, which is only quicktime supported.  This means I can't edit it using Windows Movie maker or play it in Windows media player, however it says there is a codec available for it.  However, google hasn't gotten me any good results.   Is there really any way to play these types of videos in WMP for free?

Hey everyone. If your an advanced user in Visual Basics 2008 Express Edition, I could use some help. Right now, I'm working on a video presentation program for my Home Theater PC. I'm planning on hooking up my computer to my T.V and using it as a secondary screen. I will then run an HDMI cable to my monitor, and use that as my main screen. My mouse and keyboard are wireless so it won't pose a problem. But, anyways. I'm getting off topic... I made a form with a bunch of controls on it. It has 10 textboxes for video URLs and 5 textboxes for audio URL. It has 2 AxWindowsMediaPlayers on it. One for music, the other for video. The main one (Bigger one) will be used for video, and it will also act as a control window. So, when I click play one one the textboxes, it will open the file up one both Media Players and will begin to play. I know the coding for that, its just I need to know how to control the 3rd Media Player, on a different form. So basically, the 3rd Media Player would copy the 1st media player. Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

My computer(windows 7 laptop) is 3 or 4 years old and recently YouTube did not work we fixed that but now there is zero sound coming out of it speakers headphones you name it and windows media player says something like this:  Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly. Any help appreciated!

 I use my Laptop as my media device as it has an High Def LED screen and very useful with Pandora and Hulu built in to its media player i was how to use my laptop to play music while it stays in standby mode (lid closed) so i don't unnecessarily waste power to have the screen stay lit while i'm asleep.

So I want to buy a smartphone (samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket or something) from ebay or craigslist and use it as a wifi only device. If I dont insert a sim card(I know I wont get service or data) can i skip the activation process and go right to the home screen? From there I would turn on wifi and essentially use it as an ipod touch, to download apps, music, videos, surf the web, and stuff. I have a normal phone for talk and text. So my question really is, would this work? Does the phone need a sim card to run? How do you skip activation? Any other info would be helpful also, thanks!

Hello. i have a zen v plus and i really dont like the software it came with it. i prefer iTunes, but iTunes cant sync with other mp3 players. is there any software that anybody knows of that can sync the zen v plus. i have windows vista. I'd use windows media player but i dont like it.

Ok, i know its a rehash of a few different ideas, but it seems like people have been abusing the ability to post and just fling ideas they can't accomplish out there, but hey, i mean, i believe that I can actually pull this one off. i'd like to create a mobile surveylance bot/media center, which would allow a person to call it over, access files, with a keyboard or by voice and allow people to record what goes on in their home, through a camera and audio reciver setup. also, i'd make it an expandible unit, meaning that if there were updates and such, you'd be able to patch it easily, or, if attachments were made, those would be easily recognisable by the system, and easy to install on the bot itself. also, it'd be able to interface with outside technology, some more notible ones being, obviously, and ipod, and other mp3 players, the ability to send it's video from the panel, through s-video, to any tv which will accept s-video, which range anywhere from pre- my 1995 crappy proscan tv, up to my new mitsubishi 1080p lcd tv. allowing a person to store his media on a device such as this, would not only allow him to have his media around the house, without sitting at his computer, but would also help him organize his files, back them up, and, well erm, lets just say, lock some files that shouldn't be accessable by others. i'd also like to add the nearly endless possibilities of this kind of machiene. imagine sitting on your couch, thinking, hey, I just got an idea for that report. only, your kinda sitting there debating weather or not to get up. oh yeah! just call the bot over using a pre-imput command, and it will take your voice and basically write, ammend, or delete any part of the assignment. ok, another one, the same situation, but you want something to do while your bored. its happened to even the best of us... maybe you'll put that new idea you got earlier down in a note, or maybe you'll have the bot read you your code once more to find that error you could never see, or maybe you'll just have it play you some music from your stored playlist. the possibilities are endless! also, its able to happen, but i'd like to add that it may or may not be wi-fi or bluetooth compatible, I really dont know if two months would be enough (i do have a bit of stuff to do ya know) to get that working, but hey, thats what making an expandible system is for!

Recently I upgrade my computer to the Windows 8. As I know, both Blu-ray and DVD are not supported on this new system. I don't wanna purchase Windows Media Center,either. So how can I make this problem fixed?
