Easy Interactive Mirror?

Okay I had an idea to make an interactive mirror with some mirror grade acrylic and an old android phone. Simple enough I could just mount the phone behind the mirror to display the weather for ex. But wouldn't it be cooler to be able to use the capasative screen? So that is my question, how can i have the android phone recognize my touch? Maybe use a different material besides acrylic? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Mirror Heater/Demister?

Hi, I need some advice on how to wire up a homemade mirror heater or demister. I have an old toaster which I have gutted to get the heating elements. I also have a few old wallwarts to power the thing. Is using these wires the right thing to use as a heat source? It doesn't have to get hot, just slightly warm. What kind of circuitry will I need to warm up the wire? I also got some modelling latex to embed this wires in to make a heating "pad" for the mirror and to insulate it. Is there a better material I can enclose the elements in. Thanks.

Mirror acrylic Glue

Hey,I have been researching the best way to glue acrylic mirror together into a cube the same as the picture attached. So far I have been told it is quiet hard but Dichloro is what my supplier was able to find out. I have read a lot of health hazards and difficulty getting hold of it. Is there any that would be able to point me in the right direction. With my normal acrylic i just use a weldbond etc but the mirrored surface would not be suited. Thanks in advance everyone.

How to remove decals or painted letters on a mirror?

How to remove mirror decals?  I want to remove a couple of letters that appear to have been decaled or painted onto the mirrror.  I'm only concerned that if I try to remove them, that there may not be a mirror reflection behind the decal.  Has anyone had any experience with this, and if removable, what did you use to take them off?

Newb questions - magnets behind mirror!

Hi! I'm incredibly new here and already in way over my head! Hope this is the best place to ask this. I wanted to create a mirror that is magnetic to hold tweezers, nail clippers, etc. -  lots of little metal cosmetic bits that get lost around my home. I can't attach magnets to the items themselves because they are too small - would it be feasible to glue some rare earth magnets behind the mirror? Or will I just get a giant chunk of mirror embedded in my face? :( I'm trying to spruce my home up on the cheap and keep the small space organized. I have a sampler pack of rare earth magnets from lee valley and some framed mirrors already. If this is feasible could anyone tell me how far apart I should be spacing the magnets?  I feel like such newb! I guess I am one. But anyway, I humbly beg at your feet! Please help! Thanks folks!

Lexan one way mirror/visor

Hello I recently bought some lexan sheets and was thinking about making a visor out of it, given it sturdiness. For a nice finish i would like to make it like a space visor, a golden-chrome one way mirror. I have already tought about the molding process but the one way mirror finish is more difficult than I expected: can you give me some hints? Also, I thought of three ways to get the results I want an would appreciate your opinion on them: - Car adhesive mirror finish (but I don't know if it will take on the lexan) - Spray paint, golden chrome (a thin coat should let through enough like to make it usable) - Golden plating via electrolysis and conductive paint (last hope, this requires expensive and poisonous chemicals) With my most sincere thanks

Anti-fog Mirror System

First of all, thanks to this comunity and all the DIY it has. Its a great group and has many interesting ideas. This is my first post, after one week reading all the projects, so hello to everyone. I want to make an anti-fog system for my bathroom mirror, because every time I bath it creates fog and makes difucult to shave after. I know about anti-fog sprays and DIY detergent solutions but there is also an electrical solution. The one I have in mind is a wire attach to the back of the mirror and conected to the electricity, so it generates the hot enough to avoid the fog. I saw one that also covered the zigzag wire behind with aluminium foil to (I thinkk) spread the heat more uniformly. What for sure I don't know, is about anything I should put to transform the electricity and resistance or whatever, because I thinks I can just conect the wires alone behind it. Can anyone help me with this? Two more things, in my country (Argentina) we use 220 voltage current instead of 110 like USA. Second, excuse my english and mistakes as it is not my native language. Thanks in advance to all the comunity !!!!

What to use a giant parabolic mirror in???? I need ideas.

So yesterday I came across a decent sized parabolic mirror. It's good quality glass & it's polished nicely. I've never priced one but my dad was guessing that it's probably a $200+ mirror. I got it for $12 & I have to put it to good use. The only thing I can really think of so far is a telescope. Any other ideas as to what I could build with it?

Where should I look for a cheap large-diameter telescope mirror?

I'm looking for an inexpensive telescope mirror to attempt some DIY Schlieren photography. I don't need a flawless one that you would put in a telescope and use in an observatory, I'm looking for the one that fell off the back of an astronomer's truck on the way up the mountain and got a scratch down one side and a nick in the silvering to make it worthless for astronomical observing. Any handy "old junk telescope parts" websites out there?Or better yet, does anyone reading this have a decrepit old mirror sitting in their garage waiting for me to buy it from them?

Model a heliostat with a drill press, laser pointer and mirrors?

Mechanical Heliostats were important scientific instruments over a hundred years ago and one mirror heliostats were often used to focus sunlight on an experiment. Better mirrors became cheap and 2 mirror heliostats replaced them. Then electric light killed off both types. But now, solar energy is becoming important again. Big fairly low efficiency mirrors can be made with mylar stretched across a frame. Perhaps now is the time to get 1 mirror heliostat research going again! (With low efficiency mirrors, 70% efficiency becomes 49% if you use 2 mirrors to reflect the light) So you get less efficiency for twice the expense if you use 2 mirror heliostats! But first we need to model the process. It just takes too long to test your ideas outside! Here is the start of my model of mirrors on an equatorial mount (also called a polar mount) and the sun moving on the celestial sphere. I think that it will end up being very useful. I just gotta find the right mirrors and the right laser pointer. A heliostat with the mirrors moving at one rotation every 2 days, can do this perfect reflection but it is limited to certain angles because the mirror must be upright on the mount. In my model, I have left out the earth's surface for them moment. So we will just model the suns movement, the heliostat mirror movement and have a target to see how much the reflection moves too.Brian

Does Indium tin oxide reflect inferred? and is it possible to coat glass with it? in Wikipedia, it mentions its transparent, and acts like a "medal-like" mirror. this seems promising, but can i coat a fuse like light bulb with it, so it will reflect the inferred radiation back to the filament, heating it up more? i idea is this will help make light bulbs more efficient.
