I'm using your website on Safari on an iPad mini. (iOS8, current version of Safari) I edited a project and hit Preview to see my changes. A modal opened over the page. However, the modal was not scrollable and had no option for closing it. I had to touch the background page (very small target along the edges of the screen) to get out of the modal.

1.Mac 2.Chrome and Firefox 3.Any project 5.On any project the need to login to view all steps can be bypassed by: 1. Click View all steps at bottom of project (registration modal appears 2. Click "Already a member? Login »" (Taken to login modal) 3. Click outside of modal and it will route you to projecNamet/?ALLSTEPS (You will be able to view all steps without being logged in) If this is site is MVC I would guess that moving the redirect to take place IF after the session has been created and ELSE exit modal. But I'm no professional so this could be no help at all

I'm making a walking robot out of glass based on Theo Jansen's strandbeest leg design. Fabricating the crankshaft has proven an odious challenge. I'm looking for a source where I can buy either a complete crankshaft to my specs or parts from which to fabricate my own. It needs to be about 30" long, with 6 crank arms (offset 120°, therefore 2 at each angle), throw on the crank to be 1". My original design was for a 1/2" diameter shaft, which is necessary if it's going to be glass, but if metal the shaft diameter could probably be smaller. The video here shows the crankshaft I made, but I don't really trust it.http://instagram.com/p/x8xcPeyn-1/?modal=true The prototype leg: http://instagram.com/p/wewqr1yn6a/?modal=true

Seems captcha is blocking posting comments. Here are my symptoms: OS: Ubuntu Linux 12.10 Browsers: Firefox 21.0 & Google Chrome 27.0.1453.110 Instructables Account: Logged in with Facebook Rich text: On or Off same result Error: On submit I receive a message in a modal window saying, "Please type the two words as seen on image" There is no captcha from which I can read the two words displayed, only the text, "This helps us reduce spam." displayed below the comment box. : change title and tags to be more descriptive.

I have fixed a bug! I took kiteman's profile and edited it (to look like a ghost for halloween) and I went to post it on his orangeboard but then an "i made it "pop up popped up! and it said "did you make it or are you just adding photos" so I pressed "just adding photos" but i couldn't press anything. then today I used chrome's "inspect element and went through it and found that if you delete "modal-backdrop fade in" you can click stuff again! the gray area should go behind the pop-up instead of in front of it

There's been a new release of the site! Read more below and leave your thoughts in the new comments section. The commenting has changed slightly, there is now no "rich editor button". It's been replaced by highlighting the text and the formatting options float on top. Also when commenting, when you click the 'add images' you may notice that the new image uploader modal (the same one used in the new editor) replaces the old image uploader. If you don't see these changes you need to clear your browser cache (not just cookies). Then, refresh the page and click in the comments box. As with all changes to the site, we're experimenting to see how this rolls out and what we need to tweak. We're going to stick with this for now and gather some data. Please leave your feedback below!

We were recently cleaning through a storage unit. I came across what appears to be an old half-built (desktop) server. It is not completely built so I am looking to finish building it. It is custom built, so there are no stickers or modal numbers that I can see. It has 4x 1gb ram chips. Two hard drives (with room for three more), fans, processor, and dvd drive. I knew how to insert the ram chips but I don't know how to connect all the power cables inside. I'm hoping to find instructions some place. I could use some help. I have done some computer programming, so I know what the parts look like and function to some degree but not enough to put this together. I don't want to risk damaging it since it may be worth a lot more than a 10+year old pc. I don't think there is an operating system loaded, and I'm not sure how to go about that either. Any suggestions? Although I can't find any stickers, there may be some other label located somewhere, but it wouldn't be too obvious. Any suggestions on where it might be located?

I've just pushed the first significant release after a couple engineering vacations. Rested and refreshed, I offer you these updates: The confirmation/error messages that some processes give are now 'modal', meaning that instead of an easy-to-miss orange bar at the bottom of the page, they are now a box in the middle, with a button to remove them. We found that many users did not see the bar at the bottom and were confused about whether the site did what they wanted, or why it apparently did not. We've done some work on removing confirmations that are common enough that it would be annoying to have to close them all the time, but if we've missed any of those please don't hesitate to let us know. We've reluctantly implemented a 3-contest limit when you publish a new Instructable. We just had too many cases where someone, for example, entered their Arduino Instructable into, say, the cupcake contest. It became a real load on the contest managers to keep removing ineligible Instructables. We hope that a 3-contest limit will help authors select the appropriate contest(s) to enter. We made Facebook login a bit more obvious Clarified the Pro payment page to make it clearer that there is a free account always available Couple of bugfixes around PDFs, ebooks, and patch sending That's it for now, as ever if you find problems with these or any features, let us know by adding a forum topic in the Bugs section.

The site is always undergoing changes as we work continuously to make Instructables easier and more fun to use. Sometimes these changes can go lost or unnoticed, so I thought it might be time to post here more often. If you're interested in seeing more frequent updates here, please comment on this topic directly so that I know it's worth taking some extra time. This summer there have been a number of significant changes: iPad support for our iOS App Live in the app store now! We're especially proud of our beautifully redesigned app for iOS7, with full iPad and iPhone support. We were featured in the app store once the app released, and we hope everyone enjoys the new editorial presentation of Instructables, complete with large images beautifully assembled. Social Login You can now use your Facebook, Google+, Twitter, or Autodesk accounts to sign up for an Instructables account. It's easier than ever to get involved at Instructables! While we were at it, we redesigned the flow and the associated UI, and made in-context modal login work more smoothly. Fusion 360 Integration For those interested in 3d modeling, the Fusion360 Viewer is a great way to show off your projects. Ultimately, they'll be supporting a wide variety of file formats, and using the Fusion360 viewer will ensure that your project looks its best as people browse the site. Click the link to learn how to embed your 3d models. Fluid Homepage, Contest Page, and Explore Page Designs As screens get larger and higher resolution, we're trying to make sure you can get the most of the screen real estate that's available. To this end, we're gradually making our pages fill up more of the available space on screen. The contest page was updated at the beginning of summer, and the homepage and explore page have been updated in the last couple of weeks. And... around the corner: Much Improved Search Results We'll be testing and rolling out greatly improved results when you are looking for something in particular. We've been serving our own internal results for a long time, but through your feedback we've heard these aren't good enough. We're in the final stages of testing a new much-more-intuitive provider of search results, and we should have those working shortly. Mobile Web More and more people find Instructables first on their phones, and we don't want you to have to download an app to have a good experience on the site. Big changes to mobile web are on their way, stay posted.
