Keyboard Modifications

I was just wondering if anyone could help me in thinking of a way of modifying a keyboard so that you could strap it to your back without damaging the keyboard in the process and then put addons onto the strap. The reason I want to do this is because I need something defining for my personality that will show my love of technology, and I also want to take my keyboard with me to places.

Transformer modification? Answered

2 questions about transformers: - If a certain transformer (let's say, for a power amplifier) is needed, and for example, a microwave transformer is available, can the steel frame be cut to take out the secondary coil, to be replaced by a new one, and subsequently be re-attached (by clamps or so)? Would it need some treatment, like putting varnish, or oil over it?  Would this cutting and re- attaching cause a loss in efficiency, or cause heat build-up? Would it cause more noise in the output? - Some amps have a toroid transformer. Is this just fashionable or is it for a reason? Some industrial amps use sheets of copper instead of wire. Why is this better for industrial, why, and if not for common stuff...?

TV Aerial Modification

Hi, I have a Yaggi style tv aerial (vertical polarisation, wideband) in the loft I pick up the main signals from a sub-transmitter (forgotten the right word) to the front of the aerial - good reception. I receive some weak signals, depending upon the weather conditions, from the main transmitter at the rear of the aerial. I receive these signals by reflections from the landscape, etc. I am thinking of attempting to boost the reception from the rear by placing horizontal directors alongside the vertical directors. Do you think this idea will increase, decrease, or make little difference to the reflected/direct receptions. Thanks A PS.  Before you ask, Yes I have tried pointing the aerial towards the main transmitter, but I get no signals, due to geographical considerations. I get better reception from the main transmitter when the aerial points 90 degreesaway from it.

Airsoft Watergun Modification

I was wondering if anyone has ideas if and how I could convert Airsoft, Nerf, etc. into a more realistic water gun. I was thinking some ideas of being able to shoot these guns, with red dyed water, without a need to wear face or body protection. Magazines could be the storage of the water, and lower fps so, as my main point, was to not wear protective gear. If anyone knows anything, or a website I missed, I have searched everywhere and found only water guns to Airsoft. Thank you for your help.

E-bike modifications

For a few years now the popularity of electrically assisted bikes, scooters and Seway like devices is growing. If you see all these nice Youtube videos of people enjoying a ride without actually doing anything then you often want to join.In most countries though anything with two wheels and a motor is somehow classified.A nice way to for example prevent someone to run a 2000W E-bike at 120miles per hour down the freeway...There is a limit in terms of motor or power on the wheel, sometimes even a combination of both.Anything above and it is actually a motorcycle by definition. If you are in a country without such restrictions and clissifactions then read something else as nothing here will apply to your ;)What is the difference between an electrically assisted bike and an electric bike? The most common regulation for E-bikes is that they only drive the motor if you actually pedal enough.Even with higher power motors they are usually just restricted in the max speed at which the motor still helps. For example you get assistence up to 25km/h but above you are on your own.An electric bike or scooter does not have this requirement even if there might be working pedals on it.Here we have restrictions on the max power that is allowed and often also a max speed that can be reached. What does it mean if I remove restrictions from my E-bike or scooter of sorts?Without any corresponding road or vehicle laws and regulation nothing at all.In most countries though you would turn your fun toy into a motorcycle by classification. As such it would need to be conform with everything a motorbike needs to fullfill. However, you can't register it because it was modified and never intended or designed for this, it would be illegal. It is no problem to find info on the WWW on how to remove any possible restrictions, install stronger motors and batteries plus heaps more. But should you risk it?What happens if my mods are illegal and I cause an accident or get involved in one?If we trust statistics then the morojity of electric bokis or scooters involved in accidents is modifed to get more than the allowed power. The statistics however conviently fail to show how many accidents were actually caused by them. This means we can assume the same that the cops or forensic investigators assume: Unless confirmed to be legal the thing has illegal modifications. With that comes the legal approach on any rider that caused an accident with serious injuries or worse.Without the modifications you would get a slap on the wrist unless you were careless, after all accidents happen.Modified however you face several problems.a) You illegally created a motorcycle that is not approved for the use on anything but your own private property.b) As it is now classified as motor vehicle you will be charged with driving it without the proper licences, driving an illegal vahicle or a combination of both.c) With serious injury or death on the table you are no longer a kid having some fun on his new toy, you are a serious criminal. With all three boxes ticked you are likely to end with a jail sentence. Is it really worth the risk?Get a license and a real motorbike with numberplate, insurance and all - no scooter or E-bike will give you that feeling...If you are still not fully convinced then imagine how it would be on the other side of the story...You come home from a nice and speedy ride on your modified E-bike and the police is already at the door and your parents in tears. It was not you but someone else on a way too fast E-bike that got your little sister into hospital after getting hit.And since the rider knew what he was up for he made a runner...How would you feel here? Always consider this feeling when you think it is worth putting other people in harms way...

Surface Pro adapter modification

Hi guys, I have been experiencing problems with my Surface Pro adapters (both original and "OEM") where the adapter would power up the tablet but simply won't charge. I decided to probe the connector prongs and found out that the adapter simply outputted 12 volts (and supposedly 2 amps) through the pins. Since both adapters simply supplied 12v to the prongs, can I replace the adapter with a 12v 3a one while keeping the original cable?

RC vehicle function modification

I have here a cheap rc vehicle with foward//turn capability. Is there some way i can alter the controls to make it turn left and right? The front wheels arent restricted to left or right only, they turn freely in either direction but the remote only has a turn button. (Pics of front and back of remote just added. Some sort of switch activates each motor but the control is either on or off from what I can tell. Although from what I can see, simply adding a couple of switches with foward/reverse functions soldered directly to the board would do what I needed.)

[Idea] - Styrene Glider Modification

I propose a modification of easily obtainable Styrofoam glider's allowing longer airtime VIA a small electric motor. To be successful, the modification must be light weight, cost effective and use minimal tools so smaller children (I think of myself as a big kid) can repeat. Before you go off on me for this not being an instructable - read this: https://www.instructables.com/id/EYD12YXN3XEP2873DL/ -- I'm going to try and breathe some life into the idea :PI'm thinking I'll find a personal fan (might be hard considering it's winter time :P) and start there. If I recall, those fans are directly driven and use one or 2 1.5v batteries. I think it can handle reverse polarity at 9v.I'll bore out a hole in the nosecone for the motor and hot glue it in place. If possible, I will place the 9v battery aft of the wings -- attempting to preserve the center of gravity. In the video below, when my buddy says "Test 2" that is the second test using his glider (after the fuselage cracked off on a hard impact). His wingspan was 12 inches shorter, and his glider was heavier. The video was recorded with an ATC 1000 helmet camera*** and hastily thrown together.*** I lost some footage -- on some impacts, the camera "froze" and the video did not save. I had to pull the batteries to get it going again. I suspect the memory card got jarred and the camera didn't know what to do with it. Or, something completely different. This only happened 3 times even though the "test 2" portion of the video was a vertical impact.Suggestions and Feedback welcome :)

CO2 88 gram modification

Ok my fellow creators I am asking for your help. CO2 project is making  portable air tools without lugging around air compressor. Have pipe work and connections already done and modified the CO2 adapter to puncture canister when screwed in to release air. The problem I am having is once I attach an air tool it work fine, but after I release trigger air keeps flowing through because of to much pressure. If I read correctly its about 100 psi. Thought about direct connect from tool to air but I would like to be able to switch out tools. Have air tool change connectors at end right now. I do have high pressure shut off valve. Its just trying to regulate air flow with amount of pressure this thing releases. To be honest eventualy may be weaponized. Thanx in advance for your input.

Arduino intruder alarm modification

We have a professionally installed burglar alarm system that dials out (over a dedicated landline) to a monitoring station when an intrusion is detected.  I'd like to modify it to send us an SMS (via the mobile phone network) and/or email (via wi-fi on a different landline) as well, just in case the phone line is cut, and to make sure we get notified immediately - the monitoring station tries to call on the landline first, then it calls our keyholders and the police, which all takes time.  If I'm 5 minutes away and the alarm is triggered, I'd like to know straight away so I can rush home. The alarm company have quoted a huge sum to make this change, because an updated control control panel would be needed to deal with the texting/emailing.  I can't go cutting into their system or it will invalidate the maintenance contract, so I need to pick up when the alarm is triggered without any physical connection.  Short of remotely detecting a current in the cable to the siren (a 12V DC signal, so how would I detect that?) it occurs to me that using Arduino to listen for the siren might be the best bet.  But I'm an Arduino beginner and I have no idea whether it would be better/easier to detect a noise over a certain threshold - the siren is very loud, but the noise from the adjacent road can be pretty loud too - or to try and detect the particular sound frequency of the siren.  All suggestions gratefully received.

Easy Computer Mouse Modification / Repair

The first time I did this modification was about 10 years ago, and this is my second attempt. Both times it was done as a repair and not strictly as a modification. There are actually many advantages to a newly "rewired" mouse such as the mouse button being easier and more convenient to press.  (possibly an inexpensive and simple method to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome?) Anyway, the modification is located on one of my website pages: http://www.1728.org/mousemod.htm I've seen a lot of mouse modifications on the Internet and I doubt I was the first one to think of this. **************************************************************************** Edited to Add I finally uploaded a picture to this posting.

help! modifications on a vintage pre-amp Answered

I found a working pre-amp inside a turntable from the 60's. The turntable was scrapt, so I remove the pre-amp from inside. Now I want to put it inside a vintage radio wooden box, the problem I got, 5 potentiometers on the pre-amp, but I need to modify this so it will only have 2, becuz the radio box has only 2. I will use an iPad with this pre-amp, so there really no need for extra audio adjustments like treble or bass... So one for volume, the other for open and close. How do I modify the circuit of this pre-amp so there will be no sound problem ? Do I remplace the gradable resistors with a standard value resistor, if this is how to do it, what value should I use ? I've done some tests, if I skip the potentiometer and I'm getting too much static. I' would appreciate help on this! thank everyone !

Spa Controller Modification utilising Microcontroller Remote Station

Hi All, I'm looking at modifying our existing Spa controls with a Touch screen system that combines the functionality of the radio remote for the Spa controller & the remote control panel for the Spa heater. I also want it to be able to run the Sonos software and possibly do lighting control down the track. I would like to leave the existing water proof remote operational if possible but that assumes I can get the new 434MHz module in the microcontroller talking to the existing Rx in the Spa Controller and dont have to replace it. Im interested in any comments particularly as which mini computer to use. Price is a concern of course by function is more important. I havent worked out how to power it yet as there is no easy solution without nearby power points or network ports for PoE. I may perhaps go solar but not sure yet. It may be easier to run a cable for somewhere. Any insights much appreciated...

Overkill Modification Kit: Deviance. R5 Defiance Mod

On July 13, 2014, the unofficial yet famous K'nex war will take place in Freemont Ohio and luckily this year I coming back a veteran. With all the experience and advice I got from last years war I will be a stronger competitor this year, with more powerful and sturdy knex guns. With all the fun and preparation involved in getting ready for a knex war it made me think of all the iblers who don't get to come down to Ohio for the war, so I decided to try one of my ibler's war guns at the knex war.      I ended up building the Red Book of Westmarch's R5 Defiance, A bolt action K'nex gun specificly designed for K'nex wars, and while he admitted he hadn't tried it at an official war he had tested it rigorously so he knew it war reliable. My stock version worked really well, it hit the range that Red had showed and it was pretty reliable. As you can easily tell by my final product, I changed practically everything about the gun. Why? Why would I do that if I was happy with it? Well there's a small difference in being happy with something and being confident with something. While the R5 was very reliable, I had trigger issues and a little chambering issue.          That also being said I also have an engineering saying that goes building something is easy mindless work, making something your own, that takes skills. So I made my R5 my own and changed everything but the magazine and general body. I added: a new trigger mechanism that increased pin draw ( the stock pin draw was fine too), magazine lock ( I have a vendetta against friction in K'nex guns.. ),  Upper chambering mechanism (because it makes the chambering smoother in my opinion), and a barrel (which prevents yellow rods from tumbling end over end).    My modifications only increased the reliability and the overall functionality of the gun. I would definitely recommend building the R5 Defiance because it's a great gun and it'll definitely help you in a knex war. Like any gun though, try it out and make it your own before using it in battle! Anyway thanks for reading and if you have any questions I'll be around.     JonnyBGood            (also if your wandering why I didn't break this up into paragraphs, instructibles doesn't let me use the return key for some reason. Sorry for the huge paragraph of rambling!)

[PCB Modification] How to change smd LED to 3mm LED? Answered

Hi guys ! I'm currently working on a portable bluetooth speaker project. I want to modify an existing bluetooth speaker to have a bigger battery life (thanks to 4x 18650 batteries) and to be able to charge a smartphone thanks to a usb port. So I want to modify the speaker PCB to add the batteries, the phone charging circuit (the powerboost 1000 from adafruit) and integrate it in a custom made cabinet. I don't have the speaker yet, but I've joined a picture of the 5-button array on top of the speaker and a 3d sketchup design of what the speaker will look like next to 4x18650 batteries when finished (in red the area with the buttons (shown) and the leds (not shown)). The power and bluetooth buttons both seem to have leds. The speaker is powered by a 3,7v Li-ion battery. I need to change the original buttons and leds to use panel-mounted ones and I'm wondering how I can achieve that and select the right Leds in order to not damage the speaker's PCB !  Thanks in advance, Mahot

Motorcycle Modification, what kind of data might I want?

Hey all, I'm working on a rather complicated modification on one of my motorcycles, and I think I might be using both a rasberry pi and an arduino to drive it. I intend to include some kind of display to use in selecting mod modes. I don't think I'm going to use all of the processing power of either. Since I believe I'll have a digital display to show information to myself, I am wondering what kinds of data I might want to think about including on the screen when I'm not selecting a different mode. I currently have a fuel gauge and a clock, a digital speedometer and a tachometer on my OEM cluster. I was thinking that maybe Heading and or GPS location might be cool. Maybe outside temperature? Or connecting the system to my phone to transmit text/call information? If I had data, maybe I could do something more complicated, but I only pay for text messaging because it's cheap. If I thought of something cool, I maybe would buy some data too. Any ideas?

Hoover modification: Making the dust go directly into a big bin

In my collective woodworkshop, we have a lot of problems with sawdustOne person attached a vacuum cleaner to our tablesaw to suck up most of the dust, but the problem with that is that the hooverbags fill up too quickly. So I am trying to make it so that the sawdust will go directly into our sawdust bin after being sucked into the hoover.I want to cut off part of the bottom of the hoover and attach a coneshape making the dust fall into a bin. I also want to attach a cut up vaccum bag to the cone, to make less dust fly dirctly out of the exaust port.I have been reading up on hoovers, and I am worried that the suction will disappear if there is a great big hole, not allowing the "vacuum" in "vacuum cleaner" to happen.Update:Yup, you definitely need to not have a hole in the bottom of your hoover to create a vacuum. Now I want to try something with creating a direct way to the exaust port, so that the dust just flies out of there...HELPI haven't been able to find any modification like this, but please post some if you have.I am going to jump into this, but I would love some input and ideas. It's a Miele S311i, I can't find detailed manuals on the product... I'll be updating on my progressHope someone can help!

Arduino Code Modification Help (Change of Display Type Used)

This is my first post, so I hope I'm doing this correctly. For reference, I'm new to Arduino, and with no experience with code. I want to try and do a battery tester with an Uno, as seen here (http://denishennessy.com/2012/04/08/measuring-battery-capacity-with-an-arduino/). I'm trying to follow the instructions given, and use the code (https://github.com/dhennessy/BatteryCapacityTester/blob/master/BatteryTester/BatteryTester.ino) that the author has provided. However, due to lack of availability of parts, I don't have a temperature sensor, and instead of the 16x2 LCD screen, I have an Adafruit 1.8' TFT shield. So my query is, how can I modify the code such that it works on this type of display? Again, the code is from (https://github.com/dhennessy/BatteryCapacityTester/blob/master/BatteryTester/BatteryTester.ino), and I have not directly copied it in the post so that it is easier to read. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have a old 1989 payphone bought at auction minus the keys I want to convert the old rotary tone dial to a pulse dial keypad and replace the coin slot to accept new coins and would like to do this without ruining the looks of the phone by having to drill out the locks and trying to find a lock of nearly the same style as they have been superseded by new better locks I purchased the coin slot and keypad from a bt approved company in the midlands but understandably both they and bt will not tell me how I can remove the coins once they are in the box incase I break into new boxes coin vaults even though the locks have changed and phone boxes these days are hardly used except for emergency calls.I am trying to put this phone into an oldie worldie village pub as a gimmick to draw in tourists to a dying pub/restaurant

Does Stefan (modifed nerf bullets) work with stock nerf guns? Answered

I looked at backer rods and they have aren't hollow. The regular stock nerf bullets are. The stock nerf guns have a little stick pointing out so you can put the bullet onto it, but since Stefan bullets aren't hollow they can't go onto the stick. So my question is "Can I put Stefan bullets unto un-modifed nerf guns?"

How do I install LED light strips into my XBOX 360 Slim?

I've been searching youtube for videos of how to install LED light strips into my XBOX 360 SLIM and I have yet to find a tutorial of it. Every video I find is either of the original XBOX 360 or just a video of an already completed Slim. I don't have any knowledge of electronics, but figured I could watch an extremely thorough and descriptive video on youtube of how to do it. If anybody has any helpful links with videos and/or pictures that I can use, I would greatly appreciate it. I did find a product named the "Storm V2" for the XBOX 360 that is a color changing LED system that looks extremely simple to install, but i'm looking to save a few bucks if I can (plus i'm not really digging that shade of green). However, instructions on how to install a color changing LED system that is a lot cheaper would be incredible as well. I don't mind videos/pictures that require soldering. I'm looking more into attaching it to the motherboard itself, but if recommended to do it to the disk drive, I'll take that suggestion as well. It just seems easier from the original xbox LED insallations that the motherboard is easier, I just don't know where the spots are located on the SLIM's motherboard. All helpful tips, links, and info are greatly appreciated.
