If perpetual motion is theoretically impossible, how is the earth still in orbit? Or how is anything in orbit? There falling at the rate at which the object there falling towards is rotating and they'll never stop rotating or falling so isn't that perpetual motion?

PIR motion detector

My roommates and I decided that we wanted an electronic project to work on and we chose to try out making a motion detector. The only thing is, we really have no idea how.We have this PIR sensor, a small PC board, some wire, a buzzer and soldering equipment. My question is, how can we make a motion detector that buzzes when it senses motion? What more do we need to buy?We have looked online but couldn't find anything for people that really have no idea what to do.Thanks for any help!

Motion Triggered Horns

I'm starting this one over, I made a mess of the last topic. Essentially what I'm starting with is a driveway wireless alert system (http://imgur.com/a/RgDeG)  and a car horn. The car horn is wired to a push button switch. (http://imgur.com/lg7Gbvj) What I'm trying to do is replace the [S] (switch) with this wireless trigger. The alarm speaker outputs at a very low voltage, ~0.08v: https://vimeo.com/75827101 The alarm LED's output 1.75v (measured from + on the one LED and - on the other, there are three total, in series) What would be the best place to tap in to get voltage from to trigger the relay? I think from the previous post I'll need a transistor switch of some sort? This is the part I need help with. Usage: Tractor pulling hayrack riders over a bridge, I'll place the sensors ahead of the horns so by the time the tractor is at the sensor the hayrack is right at the horns. Hope I posted in the right spot. Thanks

Motion detection sprinkler

So my neighbours cat uses my garden - my vegetable patches to be exact - as a toilet. I know there are many many people out there just like me who are sick of it. I happen to like cats, used to have one myself, but i dont like them crapping in my garden. I've tried everything. Nothing works. But they dont like water and having soaked the cat at 4am with the hose a month ago i got a few weeks of bliss being left alone, until just last night when it decided to try again. I can't wait up for it all the time. So I want to make a motion detection sprinkler. Cheap as I can. I could buy one ready made like the Contech ScareCrow but it's £50. I figure it can't be that hard, I have several hozelock sprinklers in the garage that I dont use. If I could buy a cheap infrared motion detector and some kind of actuator? Maybe I could rig it up to the hose and sprinkler, but not sure exactly how to do this. Hoping someone here can suggest how to proceed?

random motion gearbox

I have been exploring wast of creating a random motion from a gearbox, i need this for a segment of a kinetic work i have been doing for some time now. random motion seems somewhat difficult to achieve so i came to the conclusion of using magnets! the gearbox i am working on at the moment works by orbiting one magnet around the other, the central magnet spins the output shaft while the orbiting magnet performs many rotations around the central magnet tugging it to different positions giving an almost random movement (patterns can be found). i was wondering if there were other maybe more effective methods of achieving random patterns of movement without the use of electronics.

Stop motion camera crane

Ok. I need to create a camera crane. It dosn't have to be very big since I'm using it for stop motion. Just a simple pan and tilt crane with a counterweight to off-set the camera. Now, I can make a regular one very simply using a video crane method that you can find on this site. However, this crane must do 2 things. 1. It must be able to move at incredibly small increments. Only fractions of an inch at a time. 2. The crane must be able to hold it's position in a very sturdy manner. It cannot move even in the slightest because stop-motion requires that the camera does not move at all while individual pictures are being taken. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. Traditionally, a "step motor" is used to create the individual movements for things like this. But they are incredibly expensive. I've had more luck with gears and servos, however I want to figure out the logistics before I just go buy gears individually on a website that may or may not work. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Motion Detector Trail Camera

Motion Detector Trail Camera motion, detector, detection, surveillance, security, trail, camera, webcam, webcamera, wildlife, IR, arduino, cheap, inexpensive, spy, cam Hello everyone. I'm planning on building a motion detector triggered "trail" camera, as inexpensively as possible.  I want to use a cheap IC (integrated circuit), if possible, not a $45 Arduino.  I've learned that the most expensive component of this project seems like it will in all likelihood be the digital camera module (the lens and CCD, which is a pixelated digital sensor for the brightness and color of light).  However, I have an old webcam from which I could salvage the camera module out of, if reasonably convenient.  And this is the primary thing I think I'll need help with. Beyond that, my plan is to get a cheap IC, plug the camera module into it on a breadboard, find (hopefully find and not have to delve into learning how to program this) some programming code for the IC to capture the image data and turn into some kind of conventional image file, and then capture the digital camera files on an SD card via SD card shield plugged into the IC via the breadboard.  After the initial project is finished, I'm thinking of taking it a step further by transferring the image files directly to a computer, and upload them immediately to the web but that will come later. And of course write some code to signal the camera to shoot when the motion detector detects motion.  And do some research about which kind of motion detector I want and get it.  But this part seems relatively pretty easy.  Oh, and also get some kind of battery; probably a Li-Ion cellphone type battery with a shield or 'holder' for it.  Haven't yet researched about the shield / 'holder' part for that, but seems like it should be easy. Questions: 1) What kind of programming would I need for the IC to capture the image data from camera and turn it into conventional image file?  Where would I get it?  ...or what?  I just want pictures, not video. 2) How do I salvage the 'camera module' from a web camera for this?  Or rather, perhaps I should ask, once I salvage it, how exactly do I plug it into the IC to send the image data to the IC...? 3) What is a cheap but effective IC for this? Anyways, thank you; cheers. Jack Oh, also wanted to note that I indeed have been looking through many tutorials about this stuff.  I guess I'm at that point where I feel like it would be worth it to write down where I'm at and ask for further directions.  Lol.  Thanks again.

I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to use the actual porch light so I plan to set up another light bulb. I would love any advice as I want to make this idea happen but I simply don't know how to approach it. Thank you!

Walkie talkie motion sensor?

Alright, so I'm sure this isn't one of those ideas that very many will get super excited about... but I was thinking it would be cool to take a walkie talkie and put a motion sensor or event a breakable laser beam on it. In detail, the idea would be while playing paintball or something similar, you could plant it somewhere... once someone went passed it, it would use the alert function on the walkie (I don't know what the proper name is for that button, but it's the one that makes the obnoxious noise when you press it).  This would allow everyone on your team to know when the other team had passed that point. So, how would I tackle a project like this?  As an electronics newbie am I in over my head, or is this something that I could handle with a little messing around?  Ideas? Thanks!

perpetual motion machine/device...

Ok, me and my friends were chatting on im on diff ways and ides for perpetual motion machines and i decided to make a forum about it. here is probably the best one, make suggestions, comments, and add your own ideas. ok, you have a tractor trailor or and vehicle for that matter, and you attach a turbine to the top with a fan/propeller/paddle like on the boats at busch gardens that catches air and spins faster as you pick up speed. once the driver has reached the desired speed, he turns the engine off and pulls a knob like on a lawnmower that gets the blade spinning from the motor, but in this case, it gets the wheel axel spinning from the fan thing at the top. the air/wind from the speed of the vehicle spins the fan thing, which spins the axle that spins the wheel that keeps the wind/air coming to the fan up top. if you think this will work, have any comments, or, can even test this out!(i dont have the recources) feel free to post your result or anything else you want to say. i will check and reply :)

Motion Detecting script CHDK help?

Besides this, I don't understand the function of the two settings to change the script they give you. I would be grateful if someone could help me on how to use it. I'd like a way to do it without any programming on a computer or something, a way to do it on the camera itself please. Thx in advance super_me
