Can someone show me how to hook up an n-channel jfet transistor? My power supply is +5volts. Where do I hook up the load. I know the gate has to be negative relitive to the source( the source and the drain can be used interchangably, right), but I only have a positive power supply. I want to use an n-channel jfet because it normall conduct, right?I found this website:http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_3/chpt_5/1.htmlbut I don't get it entireleyI am thiisss close to understanding how to use transistors!

So I have this project and I need a rather large set of pumps.Ideally I’m looking for peristaltic pumps, but a normal one will work too. 600ml/min+ (ideally 1500+). Also I’m looking for solenoids. I can find them for around 5 each but this is way to expensive. Where can I find this stuff cheaper.

Hey Guys I'm graduating high school in two weeks and my friend and I were talking about something to do the day after finals. I brought up doing a Slip n Slide down a nearby sledding hill. I found a site that has some basic information on the hill. It's 200-300 feet long and has a 60 degree slope. Yeah pretty steep haha. So here's what I need to know: What is a good material for this slide that will hold together but is still relatively cheap? Tarps were the original idea but I was told menards may have large rolls of plastic you can roll down a hill. What is the best combination to get the slide slippery? We dont have access to water so we'll be bringing just enough in garbage cans to wet it down. So what kind of soap or lubricant is best for the slide? It would help if it didn't burn afterwards! Thanks for the help in advance. Picture of the hill in winter 3.bp.blogspot.com/_ymkfNB3shbw/R1sBuKwdScI/AAAAAAAAAUU/JD8auciBxMM/s400/sled22.jpg

Ok, I hear lots of name calling out there. Sometimes I even hear the N-Word. Not just one N-Word but multiple N-Words. So clue me in. Which is worse, a "noob", a "nerd", a "ninny" or a "numpty"? I just need to know how serious the name calling is. So give me the offensiveness levels of the previously mentioned N-Words on a scale from one to ten (with ten as the most offensive).

Annoyed with droid. Cut n paste feature... when pasting, a long press will cause a " paste" icon to pop up... SOMETIMES... but icon will disappear if you press longer than 0.72 second, or thereabout. Is there a more reliable paste option with android? It often takes 5 or 6 tries to get that 0.7 plus or minus 0.02 second sweet spot.

Well I got down to buisness and started cuting the plastic shell, But after taking half of the black plastic off I found outthat It was filled with some type of hard whitesh -yellow cast. I dont know how to take that off. does any one know how to or should I just trash it?

Hi im doing a project for my brother for christmas. Its a Drag race track thing, I have it all planned. Buuuuuuut for the cars I am using a capacitor, and a motor rated for around 6volts. WHAT should the capacitor's capacitance be? A high capacitance or a low one? I have a charging spot on the track to charge the capacitor, and then the energy stored in the capacitor powers the motor for long enough time to make it to the end.(Which is only 3 feet). Note:I found a small car that does just that but the motor doesnt work and the capacitor doesnt show the capacitance on it and I used my multimeter but it said DisC. I will post a picture of it later if it even helps. :(

Hey guys! Been a while. . . Anyways I was looking for some guidance on selecting an N-channel mosfet, and also what resistor to use when I'm applying voltage to the gate. So I'm working some long LED strips, and I need the mosfet to be able to handle at least 7 amps, so I was hoping for like a 10 amp mosfet or so. I just didn't want to guy buy the first mosfet I found on digikey, I was just hoping for some cheap good options or popular ones. I needs to be able to do PWM. Also I don't know where in the datasheets to find the information on what resistor to use on the gate. For instance I see people using anything from a 1K to a 5K resister with a TIP120. How do you select that information? I will be using an 5v output from my Arduino. So after searching ebay I found the IRFZ44N mosfet, 55v and 49A. I know this is way over my needed specs but I can get 50 of them for 10 bucks. Steal. Since it's so overrated what problems might I run into if any? Thanks guys! What I've found so far: IRF740 - 400v 10A

I'm wondering what would be the best product to use to clear coat the top of rub n buff. I painted a helmet with it, and I'm worried about it wearing off since it's beginning to around the edges. I love the natural shine that rub n buff has, and want to preserve that luminosity as much as possible. I've also heard that some of the clear spray paints out there react with the rub n buff. Just wondering if anyone has brands or products to recommend, thanks!

To keep a long story short, here is the problem I'm trying solve: I'm in the process of moding a Nerf N-Strike into a coil gun. My "ammo" for this are steel archery tips that measure 8mm in diameter. Since I'm overseas right now and have to order the gun online, while I wait for it to show up, I'd like some input as to how I might increase the magazine's spring strength while narrowing the inside width of the magazine to accomodate the diameter of the of new round. In the past I've tried small pieces of foam board and plexiglass, but that has a tendancy to get messy and cause too much friction. I'm sure once I have the gun to look at and play with some "great idea" will come to me, but until them I'm stuck imagining. Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know who distributes the patches for 100, 200, 300, etc, Best Answers? I am at 207 BAs right now, and I am really excited about getting a patch for 200 BAs . I was thinking it was NachoMahma who gives out the patches, and I sent him a PM about a week ago, but I did not get a reply. That might just mean he's on vacation or something like that. So is 207 close enough? Or do you want more? Do you want me to give you 110%? Because that would be 220. Also who gives out the patches? And we are even playing that game anymore?

Hey, just wanted to let you all know (so, maybe I put this in the wrong forum) that I am up this early in the morning ( 6:30 am ) because I have to go to the hospital for a complete cardiac / pulmonary workup and battery of tests. Yeah, getting older stinks, especially if you let you physically self atrophy. Anyway, just wanted you all to know, in case you don't see me for a few days or longer (the tests only last about 4 hours or so, but they could potentially bring on cardiac arrest, or trigger a severe asthma attack, depending on the kind of shape I am in ( it is kind of a pregnant pear shape actually ). See you all when I am back from the hospital....Addendum: I have a lowered amount of blood flow to my heart. What this means is that I am a borderline heart attack candidate if it gets any worse. Cholesterol was a little high, triglycerides way high. I will find out details on Friday I suppose when we discuss options...Addendum 2: The pulmonary tests ( 05/21/2008 ) were horrible, but there doesn't seem to be anything overly wrong that is obvious to the tech, with my lungs.....will have to wait for the doc's report thoughAddendum 3: Well, I am afraid things have progressed to the next step... I have to have a heart cauterization to see what may be blocking the lower artery, and how bad the blockage is. If not too bad, they will simply do a quick angioplasty and open it up, but if bad, I will then be scheduled for a bypass. *sigh* as we age the fun just never ends, eh ? Addendum 4: It will not be THIS coming week, but most likely next week, they will do the double bypass. Because of the location of the blockage at a major branch which would end up cutting off flow to the other artery, they have decided I best have the bypass done. PS: there was hardly ANY pain in the cath procedure.....I am going to give the person that told me that a hard time next time I see them :-) But I have experienced broken bones already, so I know the next step is not going go be a picnic. Addendum 5:I may be able to get the bypass done as early as Monday the 9th Yay ! Addendum 6:I am now into my second week of recovery, and things are progressing so well, my wife is afraid I will want to go back to work early and she will be alone again.

I've been writing an Instructable on how to become a better guitar player and performer by getting to know the "Grandmother of Rock'n'Roll" Sister Rosetta Tharpe.I was wondering if it was something Instructables would want.I've been passionate about her for quite a while. She was an Electric Guitar legend and influenced everyone from Elvis to Keith Richards, but for some reason there are many people who don't know who she is.I uploaded a couple of her videos on DailyMotion about a year ago. They have always been 5 stars. I was thinking about making some "music video" slide shows with some of her music, so I can put them in the Instructable. (I'd love to know what programs you would suggest to make them - open source is best) There isn't much video of her. I've only seen about 7 clips. I was going to point out some of the passages in the songs, that I think illustrate her musical genius, and go through how her style evolved from Delta Blues, to Big Band, and into Gospel. Almost all of it Rocks also.I'm actually not a guitar player but I have played other instruments and can hear what I think are a lot of the influential parts of her playing. I think I can identify the types of guitars also. She played acoustic back in the 20's, then went to a resonator in the 30's, and started playing Electric as soon as they were invented. She was a contemporary of Robert Johnson the "Grandfather of Rock'n'Roll". She started playing guitar at 4 years old in 1919. Yes, 4yo, no typo there. They stood her on a table. She is from the same Delta Blues tradition of Robert Johnson but went into Gospel.I'm pretty sure she was the first black woman to ever play guitar in Carnegie Hall. There are music historians that credit her with the 1st rock and roll song - "Strange Things Happen Everyday" in the mid 1940's. She recorded from the 1920's to the 70's.I don't want to write the whole thing here, so I better stop now. What do you think? Appropriate for an Instructable?Check out the video to see what an amazing musician/performer she is. You can see another one from the 70's on my Dailymotion page. I'm SFHandyman there also. It's fun to see this middle aged church lady, in a long flowery dress, in front of a gospel choir, rock out on an electric guitar.

Re-evaluation Note REV2010-01, Uncoupling of Fertilizer-Pesticide Combination Products for Lawn and Turf Uses 2 February 2010 HC Pub: 100037 ISBN: 978-1-100-14700-0 (print version) ISBN: 978-1-100-14701-7 (PDF version) Catalogue number: H113-5/2010-1E (print version) Catalogue number: H113-5/2010-1E-PDF (PDF version) Table of Contents 1.0 Purpose 2.0 Scope 3.0 Background 4.0 Regulatory decision 1.0 Purpose This document is to communicate to stakeholders the decision to uncouple fertilizer-pesticide combination products intended for lawn and turf uses. 2.0 Scope This regulatory action is focussed on the lawn and turf uses of fertilizer-pesticide combination products on the following types of turf: Lawn turf planted in or around residences, as well as public and commercial buildings including schools and cemeteries Sports and recreational turf such as turf in parks, playgrounds, golf courses, zoos, botanical gardens and athletic playing fields These types of turf are collectively known as fine turf, which may be maintained by homeowners or by professional applicators. This regulatory action does not include agricultural uses of fertilizer-pesticide combination products (turf farms), or products that have a single active material with both fertilizer and pesticidal properties. 3.0 Background Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) regulates pesticides under the Pest Control Products Act including those intended for lawn and turf uses. All pesticide products that are registered for use and sale in Canada have undergone rigorous health and environmental risk assessments including the pesticides present in fertilizer-pesticide combinations. Pesticides are often combined with fertilizers and sold as fertilizer-pesticide combination products, which are regulated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency under the Fertilizers Act. When pesticides are combined with fertilizer such that the two components can only be applied at the same time and to the same area, the delivery mechanism for the pesticide component is brought into question. The very nature of combination products removes the flexibility of applying the pesticide as a spot application due to the need to accommodate the fertilizer, which is designed for broadcast application to the entire lawn surface at specified times of the year. Pesticides should only be used when and where there is a need. Broadcast applications of pesticides over the whole area are warranted only for severe pest infestations that are widespread. As pest infestations are typically patchy, spot applications of pesticides to those areas are most often sufficient to ensure adequate control in turf. To be effective, fertilizers and pesticides must each be applied at the appropriate timings, which typically do not coincide. Fertilizers are most often applied in spring or early summer, and/or in late summer or fall. A spring-applied lawn fertilizer results in increased tillering and rapid growth as temperatures increase, resulting in turf of increased density. A fall-applied lawn fertilizer also results in increased tillering and may result in increased winter hardiness. The majority of pesticides found in pesticide-fertilizer combination products are broadleaf herbicides belonging to the synthetic auxin group of chemicals. This group of chemicals only controls broadleaf weeds that have emerged and are actively growing in the lawn. These herbicides are not preventative in that they will only control weeds that have emerged and they do not prevent weeds from becoming established in the lawn. Further, this group of chemicals is not long lasting in that they do not persist in the soil to prevent future weed infestations. Combination products have been purchased for their convenience and ease of use as a two-in-one product to address separate lawn maintenance issues (for example, nutrient deficiency and various pest infestations) with a single application. However, these products are unsuitable as a delivery mechanism because they support broadcast application of the pesticide when this might not be warranted. Ultimately, fertilizer and pesticide applications should be based on need. Fertilizer should only be used if the turf will benefit from additional nutrients, and pesticide should only be used as a broadcast treatment if the pest densities are sufficiently high across the area to be treated. Targeted, well-timed liquid formulations of pesticides minimize pesticide use on the lawn and turf sites. 4.0 Regulatory decision Based on consultation with the provinces, experts and registrants, the PMRA has concluded that fertilizer-pesticide combination products for lawn and turf uses do not support the goals of best practices for pest management in turf. The PMRA, in conjunction with Canadian Food Inspection Agency, is taking action to uncouple the fertilizer-pesticide combination products intended for lawn and turf uses. A date of last sale of 31 December 2012 for fertilizer-pesticide combination products for lawn and turf uses has been set in order to allow for replacement products to be made available where needed. Should situations arise to warrant the use of a fertilizer-pesticide combination product for lawn and turf uses, the PMRA will assess combination products in terms of the timing of application and flexibility to apply as a spot treatment, as well as potential risks to human health and the environment. The PMRA decision to uncouple fertilizer-pesticide combination products is not based on the health or environmental risk assessments but rather the nature of combination products. Combination products remove the flexibility of applying spot applications of the pesticide due to the need to accommodate the fertilizer, which is designed for broadcast application to the entire lawn surface at specified times of the year. Turf fertilizers will continue to be available for broadcast application when needed. Pesticide-only products will also continue to be available for lawn care use to homeowners and commercial applicators for either spot treatments of localized weed patches or for use as broadcast applications to severely infested turf areas when warranted. Although more time consuming, pest control in lawn and turf can be achieved with careful pesticide spot applications that target only the pests that are present and separate broadcast applications of fertilizers. Now if only the US were to follow suit...

Hey Instructables. I am working on a project requiring some MOSFETs but they have to be smaller than the Radioshack IRF510's (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062618). I think I found some ones that are smaller (http://www.jameco.com/1/1/195-bs170-transistor-bs170-n-channel-mosfet-60v-92.html), but do they have the same functionality? What I mean is, will they work the same way? I believe they will, since they are both labeled as N-Channel MOSFET Transistors, but its always good to check. Thanks in advance!

I bought an Atheros wireless-N mini PCI-E card for an HP DV7 series laptop, to replace the Broadcom wireless-G card, however, when installed, I just get a bios error "unsupported network card". I removed it and restarted with the original card and it works fine. I trhen tried installing the card live, and it detected it and installed the software, but then BSOD (my first one for Windows 7 actually), so I swapped back to the original card again. I then installed the card in the secondary bay, live, and it installed the drivers successfully, but when swapped with the original card again (the wires don't reach to the other bay), it failed to boot again. How can I replace the original card?

Alright, I was messing about with my knex, attempting to make a knex gun with a removable mgazine. I had made the clip and I then noticed my knex book-end that I made ages ago. I noticed that my knex gun clip would fit inside it, so with a little modding I think I have come up with the worlds smallest knex gun with a removable clip. It's roughly 12x8x3.5 with the clip in, and 12x6x3.5 without. Please post any atempts to beat this or correct me if I'm wrong becuase I have not researched this so it might not be the smallest.
