There are ways and means of putting websites high on the results of a google search.Are there ways of dropping it down the list of a particular search, though? I am thinking particularly of the S-word - if one googles for a phrase that contains the S-word, this site comes out as third hit.So, is there a way to make Instructables less popular for that particular search?

I've been reading up on negative ion generators, and I was going to get one (they're only 12.95), but I was skeptical on safety. 15kv (!) going through my body does NOT sound safe. Yeah, it's probably low current, but 15kv...is alot. How is it on pain? Could it...kill me? I don't know about you, but I only have one life, and its goin good right now, so I don't really want to get rid of it.Does anyone have experience ith these? Yes, I know about the one instructable about rigging it with your doorbell,, but even they mentioned -and I quote- "...a pretty nasty shock...", so what exactly am I dealing with? ...be specific...be specific...Oh, and I was thinking of the 12vdc one. Also, will it jump (the spark), to ANY grounded metal thing?

...so as not to cause a ruckus with the very ppl I'm about to bash. ;DNggggh... I guess this is more just to vent than anything, but honestly! Can't people do a simple search and figure out why pro accounts have been instituted? It's fine to not agree, if you feel like leaving, okay then, but my stars! They start ranting and raving and just generally displaying a ridiculous amount of anger (and then calling the ones who *are* pro bad things...). I mean, I can understand strong reactions, I wasn't precisely as happy as a clam about it when the announcement came, far from it, but at least I had the excuse of not having a couple months worth of discussion, replies and explanations from the staff and owners to look at. >breathes<Anyone else getting sick of seeing all the disgruntled people stomping around yelling about their rights to have everything, for free, forever? :( I'm so tired of typing the same replies to the same complaints and questions...

I want to get started with electronics, however I'm getting really confused schematics, specifically this one. Am I supposed to connect ground to the negative pole of my battery, or is the negative pole not used?

Whenever I see circuit diagrams they just show a ground off some components. When I'm designing on a breadboard should all of these go to the same negative bus on my breadboard in order to function properly? I've got one positive and one negative on each side (standard 6" Radio Shack model). Also, I would assume that a series circuit would be for those instances when you have no negative bus at all and need to ground back into the power supply as well? Thanks!

Hello everyone! The question is pretty straight forward, I have my fair share with electronics, so I'm not really new. I have a linear power supply in my shop and only now it has started bothering me that there is like 35V between my psu's negative and ground. I would normally not care, but since I've gotten into audio and video I found it to be problematic, because every time I connect my psu's negative to my lets say source audios' negative, 4 amps start to flow from my amp to ground trough the thin audio cable I use. I know it's not my source's fault because it's switching psu's negative is shorted to ground.

Ok, so, I am very confused with wire colors, ground and (+) and (-). I NEEd someone to answer me. What I have read is that electricity flows from (-) to (+). However red wire is always connected to (+) and referred to as the "hot or "live" wire, and (-) is the ground. This seems backwards to me. Ground wires go to ground because it is highly positively charged, It just seems like there is contradictions. I really need this cleared up. Thanks in advance!

Hello.. I built a transistor scr to turn on leds in my car from my remote.. my remote uses negative pulses to turn on and off... now the problem is that the scr needs a positive pulse to turn on but it uses negative to turn off,, so turning it off isn't a problem.. Im pretty sure I can just use a transistor to do this.. here is the schematic I used to build the scr...http://www.talkingelectronics.com/projects/TheTransistorAmplifier/TheTransistorAmplifier-P2.html#Latch ... fig 75b... is there a way to modify this circuit to make the turn-on negative or just a way to use another transistor to make my negative pulse positive? I could easily use an automotive relay to do this but im trying to make this as small as possible and its still on the breadboard.. I'm planning on hooking up a small speaker out of a cheap toy to a 3.5 mm Mono jack that will go into my mp3 player but I don't know if it matters which wires go where. Do speakers have a Positive + and Negative - like LEDs? If they do, how would I find it out? Thanks

I am looking to build a negative ion generator based spark gap... I need to limit dielectric loss, and need to use 8" of small gauge wire to and from the switch to turn it on. do I need to isolate the switch electronically from the rest of the circuit? if so, would a reed relay do the trick? if I use a reed relay, could I run it from the same power source, in parallel, or do I need to isolate power sources as well? my setup will be slightly similar to the Electrifried shoe diagram below. (no, that's not the project)

When sorted by recent, the top couple of posts in the Questions section have started showing negative post times again (and not chancing to hours after 60 minutes). As of 6PM UK time, the top two questions are showing information like this: "Asked in Technology by miamimac -293 minutes ago Answers: 1" This problem has appeared a couple of times before, all while running chrome on win7, and the issue persists after refreshing the page. EDIT: after looking for a bit longer, new questions are getting added to the list after the ones with a negative posting time. ADDITIONAL: recently, post times have been jumping around, causing posts to be re-ordered and Questions posted recently (with correct posting times) to be moved up, often ending up with negative posting times. Are all users seeing the same posting times, or are the faults dependent on area?

Hello... ive built an scr using transistors to turn on leds in my car with my remote.. my remote uses negative pulse.. now the scr(latching transistor) that ive built turns on with a positive pulse and off with negative.. so turning it off is not a problem.. I need to change the negative turn on pulse to positive to turn it on though. I know theres a simple way using a transistor to do this, but im still learning and my knowledge of transistors is still limited.. here is the schematic I used.. figure 75 b. I do quite a bit of black and white photography, but have fairly limited access to a darkroom and limited funds for photo paper. I know certain scanners can scan slides and negatives, but I don't have one. I also know that many photo-processing services will give you a CD when you bring them film to develop, but A) will they convert negatives that have already been developed and B) who does the best job?

On the two inputs of a standard comparator op amp (say for example LM741) they usually connect resistors from both the positive and negative voltage rails .Why do they do this and how does this work . This has been on my mind for a really long time . Could someone give me a really detailed explanation maybe with images if possible , cause this would be really helpful in the building of my next project .Most of the tutorial videos out there , i don't understand either. This may be not clear but let me explain. If you got postive signal(a power, coming from battery, but its positive = + ) and you want to make it negative ( like coming from negative of battery, = - ) how you can do it. Some kind of tranzistor? I wanted to use it in LPT port. i getting signal from pin 1(its +) and i want to change it to negative. Why do some people have such stereotypical views of teenagers? Yes I am 15, and a teenager, but that doesn't mean I'm going to automatically shoplift from your store, use illegal substances, or somehow break the law. I've had door security rummage through my bags, cashiers watch me while I browse, and staff asking me to turn out my pockets inside out. I work at a shop myself, so I know how important security is, I am kind and courteous to other people, I don't smoke, drink or do drugs, I hang around probably the nicest kids you'll find at my school, and I try to avoid abbreviations like 'LOL' as much as possible, yet that all means nothing, just because of my age. I will admit that there is a small minority of teenagers who do use illegal substances and get in trouble with the law, but this gets projected onto all teenagers via the media. And TV shows such as 'Skins and 'Misfits' just add to the negative stereotype. Right, my venting is over, feel free to add any comments :)

I have new Li-ion batteries for my mac but i wasn't completely sure on how to wire it up to the old circuitry. I know that "vg" is the ground and the "vp" is the positive. I am assuming "vl" goes to the wire "vl" i dont know what that is thought. But there is a "vh" spot on the new battery but on the old circuitry there was no wire going to there? Do I solder that wire there? There is also two very thin wires labeled ntc, i can not find a spot on the old circuitry for that is it necessary?

Would a design like this work to eliminate odors in a small room? Whole thing is enclosed in a pvc pipe with 1 end open and one with small holes. The ac power goes into a switch that goes to the negative ion gen. in the sealed end of the pipe. The 9v battery goes to a switch, then to a small blower fan that blows the air out of the pipe.

What are electrolytic capacitors? In what way they are different from normal capacitors? The charge on a capacitor depends on how i connect it to battery,but electrolytic capacitors have one long and short terminal to differentiate between positive and negative terminal. Why?

I was thinking about a random thing the other week. We have positive and negative signs in widespread and ubiquitous use in mathematics. What if we had a third sign? The number line would look like the one in the picture. It's not even a line anymore. Since I am absolutely dumbfounded as to how even the basic operations would play out in this type of system (although I have a rough idea for addition and subtraction), and nor do I know what the possible applications for a redundant sign could be, I'm just putting this here. Got ideas? Fire away.

I have checked many schematics and on all of them I see GND (ground) and nothing going to the VSS of the power supply. Is GND mean that it's connected to the negative (VSS) or is it more complex than that? What I am supposed to do if a schematic have both negative and grounding? Thank you.

For my Cold Fusion Project I was told to use a filter copacitor with the isolating transformer and the bridge rectifier. I have had some trouble understanding this. The mains AC runs through the isolating transformer and right after that I need to hook up the filter copacitior. How do I know which is positive and negative. I know AC alternates between + and - but when I need to hook it up to the rectifier I need to find + and -. How do I do that?

I'm looking for a way to ignite butane/propane almost remotely or by button. Basically, I would like to make a spark generator. I've looked into piezos but they can be hard to press down. I'm looking for something that I can attack to a softer button. I've seen negative ion generators and ignition coils with 555's but I would like to know which would be more reliable. The ion generator would be cheaper, smaller and lighter but is it as reliable as a ignition coil? Also, if there is an easier/cheaper way, please point me in the direction of such device. Any and all feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
