Night Vision

Hey, trying to find a way to get a webcam to display on a LCD viewfinder without the computer in-between so I can mount it on an airsoft gun. I know that the data format for the webcams output isn't reconizable by the LCD screen, I was thinking there would be a way to use a digital camera by feeding it the data from the webcam instead of the camera allready in it but I have no idea how to do that since I've never worked with this kinda stuff. I'm using a webcam because it's easier to open it up and remove the infra-red filter, I plan on mounting IR LEDs to the cam so it has "night vision", them mount the camera on the top of the gun with the viewfinder on the side so you can see. I tried to do this with a cheap video camera since it allready had everything I wanted but the camera module was too small and I ended up braking it. Any ideas? advice? things I should look into? any help would be nice!

Night Vision camera

I just picked up a pair of the eyeclops nightvision monocle for $50 after screwing with a pair a friend has, i have been messing with them and despite the fact they look like a toy, they are pretty impressive. I plan on modifying them so their less design oriented and more practical. My question to anyone who knows about or has a pair of these how hard would it be to hook a camera up to them. my plan is to take a webcam and remove its camera then solder wires from the webcam to the camera on the monocle. anyone else have any ideas?http://egeste.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/jakks_nightvision_goggles.jpg

Night vision surveillance

Hi, I made a surveillance system out of 2 cheap web cameras. It works perfect, but night is the problem. I need to make it possible to record during night. I can't buy some professional IR cameras right now, but I got new neighbor who makes problems, and he is the reason why I am doing this. I found in local shop some IR diodes "100pcs 5mm 940nm IR" which cost about 5€. Are they good for my needs? They have to cover about 5-6m outdoor. And can I use them for my cheap web cameras? Any suggestion is welcome, need your help, or soon my stuff around a house will disappear!

Making night vision goggles

I have read and watched a couple of videos about making night vision involving welding masks, sun glasses, digital cameras ect.  i was tempted to make the sun glasses attached with lcd lights, but the brightness may be a issue.   I thought of doing it with a pair of goggles like snowboarding goggles with the red and blue paper but im not sure how i would house  the power supply for led's.      What i would like to do is get a webcam and make it inferred and add extra Led lights, and situate this on top of the goggles visor then because i have a broken PSP (i say broke someone stole the battery and i just haven't used it in 2 years) wire that to the camera if possible so the PSP receives the picture and can power the LED's and camera. Then make a housing for it to sit in front of the visor.   That would make a great pair of goggles to go paint balling with. If that isn't possible what would be better using the red and blue paper, removing the the webcam internals and fill the housing with led's powered by a battery, Still situated on the top of the goggles.    Or taping a digital camera instead of the PSP camera to it.   What would have better quality for inferred? There's no point me demolishing a camera or a PSP if adding paper to the lens does as good of a job

How do I conctruct a powerful night vision flashlight?

I want to build a powerful night vision flashlight that is capable of producing a bright enough beam of light that it will travel at least 75 yards or so. I want to use this light for hunting wild hogs at night. The light needs to be visible to humans but not to animals. I want to try to build one instead of spending thousands on some of those fancy ones .It only needs to be transported to and from the stand so it does not have to be a light hand held flashlight. I am wondering if some kind of night vision Q Beam is possible. That would be perfect. It is fine if the unit is heavy due to batteries or whatever because it will be transported by a four wheeler. Any help that you may be able to give will be much appreciated. Thanks

How wood you get a night vision video camera in a package with enough power and memory to store 8 hours of taping?

I have a new test I would like to perform. this test involves puting at least three night vision camera's in a package and ship it to my house and then back to my work place. I would like to have the video camera record as long as possilbe and store the information so it can be down loaded and viewed after the shipping. I already have 6 30-LED infrared night vision CCtv wireless security cameras. I think one will run for about 8 hours if I have an 12v square battery. the camera has an RCA jack (yellow). so I would need a memory device that would link up to this and store the 8 hour time frame with no sound of course. I would also like to have it in a digital fromate if possible. My classes are keeping me jumping and work is hurried as well. I will keep working on this but if any of you have alternates ideals or somthing that will work with I got, I will be gratful to hear it. thank you. oh ya work is paying for parts so cost of this is not an issue for me at this point.

Eyeclops night vision 2 review

I haven't used the eyeclops night vision 1, so I can't make any comparisons. From the photographs, you can see two sets of lights on either side and a ring of leds around the camera lens. When in low power or "stealth" mode, only the lights on the sides are on. In the dark, the glow very dimly, you have to be 3 feet or less to see  them glow and it's still very dim. When in long range mode, the lights on the sides turn off, replaced by the circle of lights in the middle. These are clearly visible at close range, even in daytime, although still with less intensity as a red led. The knob toward the eyepiece is for adjustment of eye. I don't see what it does. The knob on the end near the camera adjusts focus. Seeing things at long range clearly and close range clearly require different adjustments. It's real infrared technology. You can switch between "military" and "spy" The difference between "military" and "spy isn't much. One of them is normal, infrared vision, and the other applies a green layer, making it seem like the view from COD. The 6 knobs along the middle don't do anything.  It uses 7.5 volts using 5 AA batteries. There there is only one LCD, despite it claiming dual LCD technology. The skirt on the eyepiece is detachable. The strap feels pretty cheap, I plan on making it into a head light sort of thing later with paracord or elastics. Objects appear closer and you have no peripheral vision though. The latter problem is something all night vision goggles have. Overall, it's not a bad deal for a $50 toy. The most annyoing thing is that the dials are a bit loose, so running or shaking them makes a rattling sound, giving away your position if you were doing covert sneaking around or playing a prank.        This is useful for scanning an area in the dark without revealing your location. It's also useful for night spying. What this toy cannot do is read words or anything in detail the size of words. Although navigation is possible, the lack or peripheral vision is a problem. Possible Mods: Add an airsoft or rc car battery to replace the 5 AA batteries. The half near the eye piece can be cut off I think. You would have to add a new compartment for the batteries though and the light from the LCD would leak out. I would add a strap of two so you can use it hands free. I would also attach a smal telescope or lens backward so objects appear normal distance. The peripheral vision problem could hypothetically be solved the same way people make DIY fisheye lenses. Extra infrared LEDs flashlights and other lights could be added around a house, allowing you to cover up the lights, not exposing your position. Another idea is infrared led throwies. They would function like NATO infrared glow sticks, allowing people to track a certain target or where to fire.

Homemade Car IR Night Vision ?

I am a retired guy with less than perfect night vision. I have installed a LED Backup camera and portable display in my Camry and wonder how hard it would be to do the same only looking foreward. Ebay has a lot of IR cameras that include IR Light LEDs. Shouldn't I be able to connect one to my monitor to get some extra driving safety? Of course, everything is possible to the guy who doesn't know how to do it! Thanks in advance.. Here is an article from a BMW site I think............. "...In 2000, General Motors offered a thermal night-vision system in its Cadillac line of vehicles. The system was innovative, but it was also expensive and didn't produce very clear images. Toyota also gave night vision a shot, and even now the automaker continues to offer an in-dash system in some Lexus models. The Lexus system has its fans, but if it's so effective, then why hasn't this technology spread to every vehicle on the road? One theory is that it seems as if the technology just isn't fully ready for automotive applications. Not yet, anyway. As you can imagine, night-vision technology is expensive and if you use inexpensive components, the quality simply won't be there.  Two of Germany's automotive stalwarts, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, have taken a damn-the-torpedoes approach to in-dash night-vision systems. These two auto manufacturers have been offering night-vision systems in vehicles since 2006..."

Isolating the lens assembly and LCD from a digital camera

Hello, Instructablers, I hope you can help. I'm trying to make a functional pair of night vision goggles based on the premise that digital camera photosensors detect IR range light while the human eye cannot. I have an old, functional Sony cybershot that I'm willing to scrap for the job, but the innards are far more complicated than I was expecting. As I am trying for a wearable, head mounted unit, I would like to shave off as much bulk from the camera unit as possible -- I do not, after all, still need picture taking capability anymore, merely a digital display. Any suggestions on where to begin? EDIT: Correct me if I'm wrong, but the more I think about this the more it seems like it would be more practical to buy a standalone microcamera and mini LCD. However, what method of output and input would these typically use? Would a simple microcontroller like Arduino suffice to perform all the necessary processing to feed video from the camera to the display? Does any of this even sound reasonable? Thanks in advance and sorry if photography isn't the right section for this, Ninepound

Does night vision monocular + camcorder = nightvision camcorder?

Greetings all, Longtime browser, first time poster.  I watched Kipkay's video on using a cellphone with one side of a pair of binocs to create a sort of zoom lens and at that precise moment my dog began barking at some critter outside.  This made me wonder if I could attach a night vision monocular to a camera or camcorder.  I have an assortment of cameras at my disposal, I am a proud garbage picker, after all, and a nice NV monocular somewhere in storage. Kipkay merely positioned the cell phone camera in the right spot on the binoc lens and was able to see a reasonable image.  Has anyone tried anything like this with night vision?  If the idea is sound I'll dig out my gear and made a stand to keep it all together and post it as an instructable.

Could a person print their own night vision goggles?

Most everyone knows that night vision, be it infrared, or ultraviolet, or some combination of colors, requires a filter, or filters and a compatible light source. My question is, could the filters be printed out on transparent inkjet printable vinyl and applied to a plastic, or glass lens to achieve the same objective? And if so, would it work as well? What more can I say? I'm into cheap methods of doing things. The inkjet printable vinyl I mentioned is available from sellers on eBay and any pair of glasses, including safety glasses for wood and metal working are a likely item to apply the material to.

Night Vision Camera: Do I need a Visible Light Filter?

I have a Kodak C533 Digital Camera that I want to turn into my "test" Night Vision device, and I am wondering when I take out the IR filter, is it really necessary to put in a film negative to filter the visible light? I just did a project on Infrared Light so I know all about the electromagnetic spectrum and why we can't see it, so I don't need help there. I also don't want to use it to take pictures or videos, just so I can use the LCD screen. Will it be too bright with all of the light coming through? I obviously won't want to use the night vision outside, just so I could easily take it from the dark into the light again.
