Don't Panic ! Nothing earth shattering here.....

Yesterday was my 53rd trip around the sun as a functioning human entity.  I hope to make a few more trips before my expiration date however;  in the event that I misread that particular portion of my "owner's manual",  I would like to once again express my great appreciation to the Original Instructables Gang, and all those I have known over the last several years. I have grown VERY fond of many of you, I have learned a lot &  I hope I have taught something to someone (I like to give back for what I have gained). I hope you ALL have a grand holiday season coming up, whether you celebrate Turkey Day,  X-mas,  the winter Solstice, Saturnalia, Hanukkah, Brumalia, Kwanza, Yule (added after being reminded by Lemonie), or  Dies Natalis Solis Invicti.

First Tuesday Following the First Monday of November is Fast Approaching

First, I'm not pushing any ideas on you - that's your job. For those of us in the United States, next Tuesday is election day. Surprisingly, some people don't even know this. If you're realizing that "Hey, I'm not sure what's going to be on said ballot," now (or even this weekend) is a good time to sit down for a little bit and research/find the people you feel speak and represent you.The resource I happen to use is http://www.vote-smart.org . They do not accept any funding for corporations, PACs, or any organization that supports/opposes an issue/candidate. The service is free (all you need to know is your 9 digit zip code). The site lists the current candidates, the challengers and a whole lot of information about them (experience, voting records, candidate websites, etc.). You also ought to look at any amendments that will be on your ballot -- the wording can be quite tricky (In the last vote, FL had one amendment against the amendment not to build a monorail train* -1) so you probably want to make sure you are in fact voting for what you want ;)So, please take the time to vote next Tuesday. Staying home is NOT speaking out against "the man" or showing your disdain for the system, the person, the amendment on the ballot. I am personally driving four hours to my voting place - it's really that important...Again, I have the utmost respect for those with different views than my own and the same for those that share mine. I'm not pushing any idea on you (other than to actually vote) - I just want to put it out there that its that time of the every other year again :P

Halloween contest - entering previously published instructables.

In the rules for the Halloween Props contest it says that only instructables published after the contest start date are eligible (as in most every contest) yet I see that one entries instructable was published in February? and another in November of last year? Does this mean I can enter old instructables as well?

Selling custom metal sonic screwdriver on ebay

Hello, Starting November 14, I will auction off three sonic screwdrivers machined out of aluminum (three different auctions). The sonics are made the same way as the two I made in my Dr Who Sonic Screwdriver with Arduino instructables. People have just been messaging me that they do not have the means to create sonic screwdrivers the way the instructables show and if I I can make them one instead. Well as people have asked, I made three and will be up for grabs on Ebay the evening of November 14. Sorry, I only had enough material and time for 3 sonics. I have started the auction. Auction link for one of the sonic screwdrivers is here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121218867272?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 thanks.

Movember Ends Soon...

And so it begins... To raise awareness of mens' health, particularly prostate cancer, thousands of men around the world are growing moustaches through the month of Movember. If you would like to donate to this important cause, then, please, donate here.  Don't forget, if you're a UK taxpayer, you can gift-aid your donation and increase its value by 30% with no extra cost to you. (And thanks to Canucksgirl for the new avatar) EDIT: (11th November) I was tidying the 'tache for Rememberance Parade, so I thought it was time to share progress here. Don't forget, you can still donate all through November. Further Edit: Movember ends on Friday, and you can still donate [click here]. I am under strict instructions that the end of Movember will be celebrated with a fresh razor, so I plan to document the removal "live" on Twitter, posting pictures during the shave.

Kiteman, out in public...

Dorkbot Anglia is a regular evening of talks and conversations with "people doing strange things with electricity" in the East Anglian area. We are delighted to announce our seventh meeting as the guests of the CSV Media Clubhouse on Thursday 24th November. Entry is free. Thursday 24th November 2011, 7:30-10pm CSV Media Clubhouse, 120 Princes Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 1RS (About five or ten minute's walk from Ipswich railway station) This time, there's a special guest ... Edit: It was a grand night, lots of folk went home with a determination to try the site, plus a new t-shirt. Even better, Tim Hunkin was in the audience! Afterwards, we speakers and the organisers adjourned to a pub called St Jude's for some excellent beer and, frankly, a rather random conversation.  Some interesting ideas about mixing the concepts of 3d printer and laser-cutter, though...
