Today i was given a old phone. but its certainly a different phone, it has a cord, but the end on the cord is the same as one from a internet cord, but when i plug it in to a computer it has no effect. i think it might be a 'bag phone', all i know is its made by motorola. instead of trying to figure it out, i figured i would strip it down for parts, but other than the speakers, microphone, leds and a magnetic reed switch there isnt much. one thing that really interests me is the lcd screen it has, there arent very many pins connecting it to the board, it has a microship embedded of the back of the lcd board, covered in that wierd glue. does anyone know how i can reuse the lcd? would i need an arduino for it?

Yesterday my teched teacher showed us an old battery. It looks like a supersized 9-volt battery. it was like 7 inches long or something like that and had a voltage output of something like 75.5 (yes, 75 and a half) volts. I think it's used for old radios? What are these batteries called?

This will probable only apply to UK based answerers of a "certain age" When I was a kid (1960's) we could buy a nut based sweet/treat - in a cardboard box, the resembled brown wrinkled peas - they were chewy (not Toffee) and a natural nut - slightly sweet to taste Any idea of the name - it's driving me nuts.

Like many other people here on Instructables, I prefer the old search. The new search has no filters at all, and anything with the specified keywords in it, no matter how far apart, will come up. If one of the keywords is in the comments it will also show up. I would like Instructables to return to the old way of searching. I understand that the new layout is simpler to new users, but the new search is confusing. If i was a new user to the site, i would be confused and annoyed at the search.

I've always been a fan of old how to books. They often have tips and techniques you don't find in contemporary books. Sometimes they are just plain strange. Other times they are painfully outdated, like an old Popular Mechanics article I came across that shows you how to improve your toaster by adding asbestos to it. Last weekend I stumbled upon this old doll making book at a thrift store. The entire book shows how to make dolls in a kind of odd folk art style, and would never get printed today. In spite of the fact I don't really have room for more books right now, I couldn't help myself and bought it anyhow.Has anyone else come across any interesting how to books lately, or have favorite classics in their collection?

I know there are a lot of Instructables about what to do with old laptops, but mine doesn't have an internet connection and I don't feel like buying the stuff to hook it up since it has windows 98. I was wondering if anyone knew what I could make it into? Thanks.

Alright I know this question has been asked a hundred times before, but I've searched and none of them have been close to what I specifically want. I have two old computers with some fans and L.E.D's, and I was just wanting to find something to use these things for. Everything I find is either about restoring the computer or just using the shell of one. I want something like robots lights or something like that. Oh, and sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I really want a old flyback transformer for my high voltage projects, but I don't know where to get one. I tried to get one from my local TV repair shop, but they did not have any, only new modern flyback transformers and I don't want that kind of transformer. So if you have any old functional flyback transformers that you don't want anymore, I would really want to buy them from you, and I will pay for the postage price. I will buy modern flyback transformers if you are trying to give it away for a very cheap price or for free (I will still pay for the postage price). Please respond to me if you live in UK, if you don't live in UK, please don't respond to me because I cannot afford such high postage (shipping) bill.

I found that i use older and slower computers more than i do my desktop modded to be fast, it's the fastest computer in my house! still for some reason i keep using an overheating, amd 366 laptop to play dos games and a pentium 4 laptop with 256mb of ram, instead of my desktop with a celeron D 3.23ghz (overclocked of course, how else?) and 1gb of ram. why? lol.
