Indoor buzzing door opener with multiple openers

Hey guys, i would really like to have an instruction on how to install and customize a buzzing door opener. i´m kinda a lazy person and i want others to respect my privacy. My family is constantly rushing into my room in the most...lets say awkward situations :D I want the door to my room just to open from the inside or from the outside when pushing the open button. On should be near my pc and one should be near my bed. This would work perfectly if i get one of this buzzing door openers which are used to open the main door to the house. But i dont wanna replace my hole door. Just the metal part where the lock is. Also it would be neat if the openers where wireless. And the lock should work like a normal lock: I put in the key and i come in from the outside like a normal door =) Any one brave enough to take this challenge?

Open-Source Warfare

Open-Source Warfare is an IEEE Spectrum article discussing how information technology and the internet play a pivotal role in accelerating the adaptation of individuals against organizations through asymmetric warfare.Robb calls this new type of conflict "open-source warfare," because the manner in which insurgent groups are organizing themselves, sharing information, and adapting their strategies bears a strong resemblance to the open-source movement in software development. Insurgent groups, like open-source software hackers, tend to form loose and nonhierarchical networks to pursue a common vision, Robb says. United by that vision, they exchange information and work collaboratively on tasks of mutual interest. The reliance on IT also enables open-source groups to identify and respond to problems much more rapidly than a more structured, top-down entity can--be it the Pentagon or a large software company such as Microsoft. According to some estimates, it now takes Iraqi insurgents less than a month to adapt their methods of attack, much faster than coalition troops can respond. "For every move we make, the enemy makes three," U.S. Brigadier General Joe E. Ramirez Jr. told attendees at a May conference on IEDs. "The enemy changes techniques, tactics, and procedures every two to three weeks. Our biggest task is staying current and relevant."

PDF won't open

RE: https://www.instructables.com/id/Secret-Hideout-1/?download=pdf I can download a PDF, however when I try to open it, it gives me the following message. I have gotten around this by creating a "custom" PDF. Message is from normal PDF. It opens the PDF, but it is blank. Whoops! I take it back. Gate opener with bluetooth

I wish to use a raspberry pi3 to detect when a paired smartphone in a vehicle comes in range to open a sliding gate. All the gate opening electronics is in situ.What are the pros and cons of such an idea and are there any instructables already using this method. I noted an in/out board using bluetooth detection here. Also how many devices can be paired to a RP3. I have not done any programing of a RP before.Thanks Paul Andrews

unable to open pdf

My customer has recently encountered a problem when trying to open most of their pdfs that they have been referencing for years on their pc.  Reader has a popup box that says "Adobe Reader could not open 'file.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded I have tried various programs to recover/restore/repair them, they all say the files aren't PDF files.  I have not paid for any recovery programs but would be willing to if they can demonstrate they can fix the problem first.

"opened & fixed" logo

Hi everybody, I think it would be nice to have something like an "opened and fixed" logo. The purpose being to print it as a sticker, then, for example, when you open and fix an appliance, you can put the sticker on it, and when your friends ask, you can delight them talking endlessly about your endeavor. Irony aside, I think it can be an interesting counterpart to the "warranty void if removed" labels, also encouraging people to open and fix their own devices. There could also be an "opened and hacked" logo. I was thinking in something simple, like an "O&F;" with a circle around, or maybe the circle made of a screwdriver. I'm writing this due to my lack of design ability, in hope that someone with that ability finds the idea interesting enough to give it a try. Also, what do you think about it? is it a good idea? would you use it? Cheers, Andres. Can't open newsletter

I'm having a very strange problem with the Instructables newsletter. Starting a month or two ago, the newsletter arrives in my inbox (I use webmail from my ISP, Shaw Cable), but I am unable to open the message. Normally I just click on the message and it opens, but when I click on the Instructables message nothing visible happens.I normally use Firefox 3. Today I tried it using IE 8 and got a message saying that some of the content would be delivered using a non https connection, blah blah blah. I said go ahead anyway, and the message opened, but none of the images displayed.So, it appears to be related to some setting in Firefox, or perhaps some javascript thing that works in IE but not firefox, but I can't figure it out. Can you give me any tips that might help me get it working in Firefox?Thanks,Steve

Hi all, im working on an open souce robot design and thought you might like to follow along, Once its finished ill post plans and instructions to the site, but if you want a head start had over toXBR-ONLINE to check it out.The idea is to build a low cost chassis with out a brain or other expensive upgrades , so users can add "read hack" their own systems to the body. This is intended to be a multi purpose body shell with construction options ranging from wood and foam to plastic and aluminium.

Hi all Here is my problem, I have a "super talent" USB that it’s badly bended one day and the result is that somewhere inside there is a bad connection. I’ve tried to open it but it seems that it’s bonded solid with the circuit. Any ideas what can I do to open it? Is there a chemical solution?  Thanks Paul

Hydrogen car to be Open Source

The manufacturer of a hydrogen car unveiled in London on Tuesday will make its designs available online so the cars can be built and improved locally.The Riversimple car can go 80km/hr (50mph) and travels 322km (200mi) per re-fuelling, with an efficiency equivalent to 300 miles to the gallon....The company will distribute the engineering designs to the 40 Fires foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that will make the designs "open source".The idea, they say, is to allow local manufacturing in small plants. This stands in contrast to the "economies of scale" that drive current plants to huge sizes and workforces.In addition, designs can be adjusted for local markets, using locally sourced parts or materials.The agreement will be such that if the designs are improved by a local manufacturer, those improvements will be sent back, so that what the company refers to as its "network of manufacturers" can contribute to the overall development of the product line.

Open Hardware Toolchain Survey

I'm not sure how many instructables readers/authors identify with the open source community, but what you guys are doing in terms of publicly documenting hardware projects is awesome and makes your perspective especially valuable.  The Open Hardware Toolchain Survey is an attempt to uncover a basic list of user/developer requirements that can be contributed to the documentation discussion and, ultimately, lead to a new generation of collaboration tools.  I would like to personally ask you to take 10-15 minutes to add your perspective and/or pass this request along to anyone you think might be interested. The compiled results of the survey will be made available and will also be used at the OSHWA's DocJam. 12v automatic lid opener

I have a dc 12v winch that I want automatically open a lid of a feeder at a specified time, remain open for a spercified time and then reverse the motor to close the lid for a specified time and the procedure will repeat itself  the next day. I have a timer that will work but I want the motor to reverse automatically.Any info appreciated. Thanks

Unable to open Winzip file? Answered

Hello Experts, I am running Windows 7 and i have version 9.0 I have been given some movies in a Zip file however when i double click to open the Zip file i get this error, Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive If you are downloading this file try downloading it again - So he transfered it to me via Pidgin Messaging tool its on my pc and i can see the file size 2gb Can you please advise on what the workaround is to be able to open this Many thanks
