I was going to ask are you caught in the blackouts I'm seeing on the news? Dopey question. Anyhoo, if you're reading this after the power comes back on, how did you cope? What Instructables could you use to make life easier? UPDATE: And, if you're an engineer, could you design a better system where a single throw of a switch on a substation blacks out five million people, shuts down two nuclear reactors and even closes beaches? The outage was triggered after a piece of equipment was switched off at a substation in Arizona, officials said. ... Daniel Froetscher, a vice-president at APS, told the Associated Press news agency the malfunction at the substation was "not a deliberate act". "The employee was just switching out a piece of equipment that was problematic," Mr Froetscher said.

A new series started on CBC Radio this week, here in Canada. All of you should give this a listen. The link is to the shows home page for the first episode, but can be had through Itunes to receive it automatically. This first one concerns the "God Light" and what the inventor went through. Could be one of us is not far behind. http://www.cbc.ca/outoftheirminds/ Enjoy

Hello, I am having trouble staying logged in to my account. I am accessing the site on a Surface Pro running Windows 10 on the latest chrome update, and run the "HTTPS Everywhere" extension. I can log in and view my collections and profile and all that, but when I view an individual instructable I get logged out. If I click on the Log In button at the top it logs me in without prompting for a password, but it sends me back to the home page. This process seems to repeat ad infinitum, so I can't access premium features and I can't save favorites. A little annoying! Any ideas?

So recently, in the past week or so, I've noticed that the Instructables login/profie/status bar thing at the top right has been a little confused as to whether i'm logged in or not on various pages. For example, (Note: I'm currently logged in throughout) > Visiting the Instructables Home page I now see the "signup / login links". > Clicking on Answers / Contests / another instructable shows that I'm logged in with "You / Inbox / Shortcuts / Log out". This used to work fine 2 weeks ago, I haven't updated my system or software - Did wonder if it's an issue with cookies or something? Mac OS X 10.6.7 Safari 5.0.4 Does anyone else have the same problem?

I have my netbook set to automaticaly log me into the site when I go online. Conker-X wants to check his account, but when I hit "logout", it doesn't. My PC, though, does log out when I try. Both machines are running FireFox 10.0.2 under XP Home edition.

I want toget out. There are no options for unsubscribe available. I do not understand why. I was looking for something about animation instruction and got caught up wih this I am 68 and donot have time nor inclination to become involved with this stuff. Please get me out. I read a notice there somewhere where someone else wanted out and couldn't. If another comment is valid thn the company is dishonest. That is that they want the site to increase and that seems to be why nobody is able to unsubscribe. I hope he as wrong. Could someone somewhere get me unregistered from "Instructables." I am very angry and kind of depressed now.....I have fallen out with a friend, and i am pissed off.( this is at dinnertime - on the school playground BTW)It all started when i called him ( stuart) something ( daddy's little wh*re) as a joke. I always tease him and he just puches me , and then we carry on as normal. But i realised i went too far then, ( it was un-intentional; like a spur of the moment how i always tease him). I aploigised twice then, but then he chased me - he is very fast and this time he had a very angry look on his face! I quickly ran in a cicle and then ran straight outa the school gates for dinner- to avoid beatings. When i returned to school on the same day, I tried to avoid him incase i get hit, but i couldn't since my best friend hangs out with him, and i wanted to talk to him. So when walked up i imediatly got chased off ( but i was able to say sorry twice again). So next break i walked up again, But i got pushed, then kicked very hard on my arse by stuart. Then i got chased again and got puched twice. I decide to avoid him and ,my other friend totally for the remaining lessons.(TODAY), I normally walk with him too school and back form school. So when morning came, i got ready and left the house. I spotted him ( stuart) behind me and decided to carry on walking - too see what he would do..... Once he caught up he walked off! ahead leaving me behind! ( I thought the guy would off cooled down by now). Once i caught up with him i said:" hello. Are you still in a mood with me?"Stuart: " fuck off , i don't wanna walk with you, so get lost"Me: " why man? please, i said sorry lots of times...come on!"stuart : " Fuck off "I just realised he was angry and then just carried on walking to school away from him. I avoided him for most of the day, until maths finished:I was walking with another friend on the playground, then i saw stuart with his 2 friends ( one of them is also my friend) walking the opposit direction towards me.:When we were pararllel he got out his hand and pushed me really hard!me: " what the fuck did you do that for? I didnt do nothin' to you! "He smirked, and then walked off saying nothing.I am really angry and depressed now. I didnt go back after dinnertime today. Cause I am that down.. :-(Ive said sorry countless of times and ment it but he wouldn't listen. He just gets ready to hit me.I can't even hang out with my other friends because half of my friends ( he hangs out with). So im worried if i go up to them he might start a fight wich i don't wanna do. He is the tallest in year 9 twice the size of me, and pretty big. ( i know it would be a un fair fight ida get beaten). And now i havn't got anyone to walk to school with , which sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what to do?!?!?Personally i think he's acting childish. Ive apoligised lots and he won't listen. Thank you for reading this extreamally long post!!! Please Help with sensible advice.

I'm working on a project where I need to have a transmitter and a receiver with an alarm, so when they are apart a certain distance the alarm goes off. I need the alarm to be attached with the transmitter not the receiver, where it will be attached to a valuable stuff for example.

On certain cameras, DVD players, VCR players it has the red, yellow and white "out", if I were to have a spy camera with the yellow and white "out" how would I record that in the space of a largish pocket? Kipkay's Instructable features the exact same style of camera (go here www.instructables.com/id/Covert-Spy-Sunglasses/)Pic is of my one, not my picture though (sorry). Red is for power.

Ok, I know you can limit your viewing to a particular keyword, but how would you go about filtering out that keyword? For instance, I don't get the whole knex obsession around here, I don't own any knex, and I never intend to... so I don't want to dig through 40 guns, knives, swords, cellphone holders, etc. just to find something interesting.

When I go to https://www.instructables.com/id/Create-faceted-paper-objects/ it shows me as being logged out and won't let me log in. When I navigate to any other page on the website, I'm logged in as usual. I've tried getting to this page via the papercraft contest as well as copying and pasting the link into my address bar.

I'm wanting to build these microphone props for a play , but this Instructable is really vague, only providing a loose list of components and no sizes. The one thing I can't figure out for myself, however, is what the outer circle is made of. I figured those curved bits were PVC, but a search through Lowes didn't turn up anything that looked like that. What are those things?

As the title suggest, I am dropping out of the tournament. There are several reasons why.1. People don't like the founder of the contest being in it.2. I want to judge this last round personally so people probably won't like me judging my own entry.3. I already started taking apart my unfinished entry. For all those wondering, this was going to be my entry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6ekJEyP_FE

So I have an iMac, running Vista. It's late 2009 version, newest with the exception of the new 27" models. I'm trying to connect the mini-digital out to the SPDIF in on my audio amp. I bought a cable, and an adapter. It just doesn't work... The adapter works fine, seeing how it's just a hollow piece of metal and plastic. The cable is also working fine - I've tested it with my TV. The iMac has output, you can see it on the other end of the fiber. Everything I've checked seems to be working, and there's only one possible explanation I can think of. The iMac is transmitting with a different format. I'm new to optical audio cables, so If there is only one format, aka SPDIF and TOSLINK are the same, please let me know. And if they are not, can someone inform me on what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it?

Cool guns to check out: The Jamalam's battle rifle. Why should I? Do you want a k'nex gun that has an awesome hold, great distance, cool magazine, and working bolt? Well if you do, The Jamalam's assault rifle is perfect. Another one, is the SR-V1 by killer-k. This gun has intricate slingshot design, and very powerful range. This is definitely recommended in a k'nex battle along with all the others. I mean come on! It looks like a sniper (duh!), feels like a sniper and shoots like one too! Also, another one is Gorkem's sniper rifle. It is a awesome, sturdy, powerful choice. It is an awesome sniper. I love it, and it is filled with cool features like, a great stock, a ridiculously cool barrel, and an awesome loading system. A cool one is the fn-scar k'nex gun. It has good ratings, a cool gun, a nice system, and overall good and reliable. Last but not least everyone please watch my crome eagle rifle slideshow and say to post or not. Just type in: Crome Eagle k'nex gun slide show. I give credits to all of the guns I mentioned and am a big fan of them, well... bye!

Dorkbot Anglia is a regular evening of talks and conversations with "people doing strange things with electricity" in the East Anglian area. We are delighted to announce our seventh meeting as the guests of the CSV Media Clubhouse on Thursday 24th November. Entry is free. Thursday 24th November 2011, 7:30-10pm CSV Media Clubhouse, 120 Princes Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 1RS (About five or ten minute's walk from Ipswich railway station) This time, there's a special guest ... Edit: It was a grand night, lots of folk went home with a determination to try the site, plus a new t-shirt. Even better, Tim Hunkin was in the audience! Afterwards, we speakers and the organisers adjourned to a pub called St Jude's for some excellent beer and, frankly, a rather random conversation. Some interesting ideas about mixing the concepts of 3d printer and laser-cutter, though...

Production of light with low energy for this take a long tube with both ends open. Now place a one way mirror in such a way that light passes from outside to inside and the other end with a colored glass except red [primary colors].before this just fill it with active medium or the elements used in laser[make sure that this medium emits any color other than red on exited] Then send red laser light into the tube for few seconds if my guess is right the tube will give a colored light outside Now let me explain it when the red laser light first enters the tube it makes the active medium in it excite and release a colored light along with the red light this passes all through the tube and at the end the colored glass [the same color which the medium emits on exciting] will send the emited light through it and reflects the red colored light back and the process keeps on going as the first one way mirror even reflects the red light back. I have a picture of laser active medium and one way mirrors. So,energy is consumed only for the first production of light for minute.

All my other sites (except financial...) let me stay logged in for days at a time. So that means my cookies are working. Do you require us to relog in every 24 hours? atilla

I keep getting automatically logged out. In one instance of logging back in, I got an error saying that my account was not found?

I can't utilize the site properly at all. Every time I click on a link to a project, it logs me out completely. I can't add to a collection, or favorite things, or anything. I'm working strictly from a desktop computer, and am a new user (just set up today). ETA: I was trying to use the site with Google Chrome and it wasn't working. I've now switched to Mozilla Firefox and am able to use the site.
