Walk like Pan

Seattle artist Kim Graham has created a set of stilts mimicking the extended foot of a horse or other grazing animal. Her satyr costume is pretty much the best ever... And check out how they look in motion! Want! She is making them for sale, but there is a long wait time and they will cost something like $1000 depending on the optional spring-loaded hooves.http://kimgrahamstudios.com/gal-legs.html

HELP! device to hang pots and pans that lowers with electric???

I have very limited space in my kitchen and leave my pots and pans on the stove when i'm not using them but they get in the way.  I remember, in the old days, they had ways to hang them from the ceiling and could raise and lower them with a rope.  Since I have limited space, I was thinking about a copper pipe mounted on a system where you could push a button to raise and lower the pipe along some sort of track mounted to the wall that holds the pipe out 12-18 inches away from the wall.  (Almost like a wire rack shelf idea where the shelf would electronically move up and down.)  I could then hang S hooks from the bar and hand the pots from the hooks and raise them up along the wall, out of the way until I need them and lower them without a pulley or getting a chair.  I can usually manage to change a lightbulb all by myself but I am lost on this idea.  Any inexpensive suggestions???

Shaping Cupcakes

Hello all! I need some guidance.   I am trying to bake cupcakes, but I want to bake them in the shape of coffee beans. I was considering using egg shaped pans (that usually sell around Easter), but unfortunately, it is not Easter, so they are not selling... Any advice on how to make baked goods in the shape I need? The image came from here.

Seasoning cast iron..... Answered

I do not like the factory seasoning on a cast iron skillet I have. Should I season over it or remove the factory black, nasty crap and season on my own from scratch? It's a shame how poorly companies, even good ones like Lodge have such poor quality seasoning on their products.

Pan pastel weirdness - any ideas on causes? Answered

These pastels were relatively smooth - aside from use - two years ago. They have never been exposed to moisture other than that in the air.  They have been in a heated dry place in a covered box.  I opened them for the first time in two years today and found some 'erupting' with white stuff.  I'm guessing crystals  of some sort... or maybe a very strange mold. Has anyone else had this happen or know what causes it?

Arduino/Servo Pan/Tilt: What pins?

I am new to electronics, not to mention micro-controllers. I & my son-in-law, have both bought Arduino boards. I have the Mega2560 & he bought the Make Ultimate Micro-Controller Pack with Netduino & Uno R3 (on sale at Micro-center for $14). I have found several servo libraries/sketches for controlling 2 servos, however, I can't find any actual schematics, eagle files, layout drawings, instructions on how to wire the motors to the Arduino! Can some one help??

Help converting a plug timer to a panning motor

Hi there everyone, I want to get started with timelapse photography, but buying expensive gear is not an option - an DIY'ing is fun :) I want to use my TI-89 calculator to help out with the intervalometer job, and I've ordered a fitting cable, and will be programming the stuff when it arrives. So far, so good. In addition to that I want to add some panning action. For the purpose of automating that part I found a plug timer (correct term?) lying around. I disassembled it, wanting to find a way to mount my tripod head or some other camera mount (like a 1/4" 20 thread). Anyways - the middle part with the Philips-logo is not moving while in action, while the spinning clockface around it is very thin. The size, though, fits my Manfrotto tripod head perfect, even though it's heavy as shit - and with a camera on, it's even worse :) Well - I need some tips for constructing this bad boy - how to go about it, what to do, and what not to do :) Anything is welcome. Attached is a hell of lot of pictures. Oh - and any suggestions for coping with morning dew, if the camera has to stay outside for 3-4 hours during timelapse? :) Thanks a bunch, F

I'd really like to start cooking in cast iron pans, because i know if you get even a decent pan, you'll have it for the rest of your life, which is pretty darn appealing. i have a pretty darn big frying pan already, but it hasn't been seasoned for years, and i have no idea how to go about it, can anyone tell me?

how can wire up my pan tilt motors( which are reversible dc) with the stop switches, ??? Answered

I recently bought a pan tilt head on ebay that did not come with a controller the motors are 12v reversing motors they work fine, it also has stop switches for pan and tilt. Ok so the stop switches stop the camera from going too far one or the other so when i wire them in to the power wire to stop the current when the camera goes to far that works but because of the reversing motor i cant use either switch to start  the motor again . what is the cheapest way to do this Thank you for reading.

Ideas on how to make a simple crocodile costume for a Peter Pan production?

How can I make a crocodile for a small child(ren) to wear in Peter Pan?  It would be cool if he could open and close the mouth while the other child (in the back) would hit a wooden block for the tick tock.  We have a frog costume, which will cover the kids, but can't figure out how to do a head.  It needs to be simple - I'm no craftsman, but I can sew & glue.

How do you cook a steak on a cast-iron grill pan? Answered

I bought a cast-iron pan with the little elevated parts to make it more like a grill since I would have to go use a community grill and usually I am just cooking for myself. I have tried different recipes and have either found it's way too done, or just not cooked right (and still cold and red in some spots). I think I am getting closer, by searing it at the highest temp my oven can get for a few minutes on each side, but for a decent cut (around an inch) it seems that isn't actually cooked, and then I put it in the oven for what I heard was a short amount of time (I like medium-rare to medium steaks) and it was very well done... Any one have any recipes that works well for them? Also how do I not fill my house with smoke when I try to sear the steak?

I want to control a RC Rock Crawler 4X4 truck with Wi-Fi in place of the radio control? ?

I have a RC "radio control" 4X4 Rock Crawler Truck that I have mounted a AIRSIGHT Wi-Fi camera with pan and tilt that has a 360 degree range of about 150 Feet from my wireless router, I want to use the pan signal from the camera to control the steering and use the tilt signal for forward and reverse. The truck will not need a speed control as it moves very slow anyhow. It has a normal servo for the steering and two 12 volt DC motor's for the front and rear drive's.  I have a Arduino UNO and a 2A Motor Shield that I bought for the truck but this will be my first project of this type and I need help. Also I will not need the camera to pan or tilt but I thought it would be easy to cut the wires to the pan and tilt motors and use them for my signal wires for steering and forward and reverse, also I can drive the truck with the camera software from any PC or tablet.  Thanks for any help!

The Breakfast Machine

While visiting my grandmother last week in beautiful New Jersey, I found The Breakfast Machine, a combination compact toaster oven, frying pan, and coffee maker all in one. At first glance, I thought it was a pretty funny combination, but it's actually quite efficient--the same heat that toasts the bread also fries the eggs. I, of course, had to take the machine apart a little, and you can see the same heating strips that you'll find in any toaster oven are the only source of heat for the frying pan.One question, though: how are you supposed to remove the frying pan without a handle?Once you have your breakfast machine, the next step is to hook it up to your alarm clock (see discussion here) and you'll be up in no time!

Does anyone know where i might find some dc motors that are quiet and small but can still be able to pan/tilt 8 pounds of camera?

How do I control two servo motors?

I am a beginner in this area, but been looking around on google for info on servo motors. What is the absolute simplest way to control two servo motors (for a video camera pan and tilt head), from the same unit? I don't want to go wireless (radio controlled), but instead keep it wired. Is it even possible to control pan and tilt with one single joystick? I could really need a beginners tutorial on this... Thanks for your answers!

How would you build a moisture harvester?

Yes, the first thing nearly everyone remembers are the moisture farmers on Tatooine in Star Wars. Now, the question is, how would you go about building one? I was thinking about building a small hoop hut out of PVC but instead of of being a split cylinder, I was thinking of a donut shape of PVC covered with plastic. A center pan to catch water for harvesting the water or smaller holes in the drip pan itself for water delivery to the plants.

My Cuisinart bread machine is wearing out. What is the toughest bread maker available?

I like the bread machine because it makes small, one pound loaves. I never use the 1.5 or 2 pound loaf options because the machine's pan will not stay in place during kneaing stages with the larger loaves. I only use it to make one loaf of Italian or honey wheat per week. Now, however, the pan will no longer stay in place when making the small loaves. Is a tough, durable machine available that will hold up? The machine is only a year or two old.
