Hi everybody, Ok so I'm having a legend of Zelda halloween/birthday party and I need ideas for invites, decorations, music, party favors, food and drink (I have the recipes from the geek chef website). Can anybody help me? It's for my 18th birthday so please don't give me kiddie ideas. I've only come up with a beamos statue made from coffee cans and a goddess wall people can write messages on. Please help. Many thanks: Voidmon.

It's Friday and I picked up a dozen donuts for the office, but why shouldn't you guys be able to share in the fun? So I'm declaring a donut party. All you have to do is leave a new comment saying, "I want a donut!" and you'll get a donut patch. That's it!UPDATE: OK, this is gonna close down at 4:30 so get 'em if you still want 'em! I'm at almost two dozen so far.UPDATE 2: All right, the donut box has closed! Thanks everyone for taking some donuts and I hope you enjoy your donut patch. Have a great weekend!

So I'm having a new years LAN party this year. 14 hours of pure gaming should prove to be a fun night. I have a 50 inch plasma in my basement where we will be having the party. I want to make the best use of this screen by putting some "stats" (for lack of a better word) on the screen. Obviously the biggest problem with stats is that every games is different and there is no standard protocol to be used. I am looking to the instructables community for ideas as to what I can put on this screen. Some ideas that I had: - DHCP table - Midnight countdown (its new years) - Starfield Screensaver Thanks!

I need to build a LAN Party Bag. Or rather, a LAN Party Bag that needs to hold 3 monitors, along with a desktop. I had a few metal-related ideas, but sadly, no welding equipment. The computer weights 100+ lbs, so I can't use anything too cheap. The monitors are 19" widescreens. Plastic is too brittle, wood would have to be way too thick, and I don't have welding resources, materials, or equipment. I don't expect to be wearing it, but rather rolling, then lifting into the car, and out when I arrive. One idea is to maybe buy a hand truck, and mount sheet metal to the back (side facing wheeler), line with insulation, and put clips along the sides and bottom (the backpack-style clip-and-socket). Any ideas are welcome.

My friend Bug is responsible for a fine Valentine's Day tradition: the Love Sucks party. This party is held whenever he's single (according to the rules below), and is open to any single friends and their single friends. It's usually held at a distinctly non-romantic type of restaurant with ample seating and strong drinks. I know of at least one marriage that's come of Love Sucks parties, but that's really not the point, is it?The rules:1) Single is defined as a) really single, b) your SO is at least 3,000 miles away, or c) you don't have a date for Valentine's Day and your romantic entanglements require a white board for proper mapping, otherwise known as the Circus Trainer Clause. (As in, "my girlfriend is out for dinner with her husband and her girlfriend, the circus trainer..." or something equally convoluted enough to require a whiteboard for mapping.) Either way, participants are likely to be a bit grouchy about the holiday.2) Single friends can bring another of their single friend as a "non-date", ie someone they would never date. There may be more rules, but as I've never been (un)lucky enough to attend one of Bug's Love Sucks parties I'm a bit fuzzy on the other details. (Bug, can you help out here?) It should be noted that he's NOT planning one this year, as he doesn't qualify to attend. ;-) This shouldn't stop you from picking up this worthy tradition. Just make sure to bring a whiteboard.UPDATE: here's Bug's official description and invite template for all to use.

So me and some friends a month ago got together and threw a party together last minute. Well it was more then just a hit, people turned around and begged us for more. So now that we have cred for this "epic" party which really was just random shit tossed together in a house in an hours time. So this time around we are going to go all out and spend our budget fully. But my job is to do his house like my room: I only have LEDs for lights. But the LEDs I used for my room I bought at radio shack and thus paid top dollar for them. Which was fine, for my room, but a house? I need bulk. Bulk LEDs, bulk resistors, bulk wire. But that's only half the problem, I was told my deadline was the 23rd. Well even with this short time frame I still need some good bulk dealers. Does anyone have any good links to places that sell LEDs in bulk? I'm looking to spend around 50 bucks or so on the lights. As I do this project though I will either make an inscrutable out of it or the very least a slide show!*

As many of you might remember, on 1/31/07 a terrorist group, in a coordinated attack against the people of this great nation, attached devices that contained circuitboards, flashing lights, and batteries to buildings and bridges in 12 major cities across the US. In 11 of these cities, the devices were largely ignored and people went on about their business as usual. But in Boston, someone decided that a circuit board with some lights in the shape of a cartoon character must be a bomb. The city was quickly shut down as they closed the subway, bus system, and several bridges and building were evacuated. The city was in a state of panic! Was this another 9/11? Were these sinister devices really dirty bombs meant to kill innocent civilians? By the end of the day, Boston had spent over $1,000,000 (yes, i said million) dealing with the devices. Who could have launched such an attack on American soil- Al Quada? the Taliban? North Korea? nope... Turner Broadcasting Group. They paid 2 artists $300 each to make what ammounted to a childrens toy known as a Light Bright to be used as guerilla marketing for the upcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. Rather than admit that they overreacted, the city of Boston sued TBC for $1 million in restitution and another $1 million in good faith money. The two artists who only did what they were paid by TBC to do, were forced to do a combined 140 hours of community service. I'm having an Aqua Teen Hunger Force marathon on the evening of 1/31/08 as a memorial to the freedom that we as a nation have given up in the 2000's. Americans as a whole have a hard time understanding that the terrorist do not intend to kill each and every one of us with bombs and plane hijackings. They seek to control us through fear. The city of Boston was so afraid that they completely shut down the city because of a lightbright hung on an overpass! Sad as it is, the events of 1/31/07 are an indication that the "war on terror" is a losing one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kdP8WBB4lI I said all that to say this: I'm looking for some ideas for my ATHF marathon party. I'm working on a lighted 'mooninite' for the front yard, and I know I want to incorperate the governments 'terror scale' (you know the color thing) somehow. I am also asking each guest to bring one harmless-yet-contraband item that I can confiscate at the front door much like the airport security. If you have any idea for other tasteless things for the party lets hear them. The less P.C., the better!

For our holiday party, Instructables and a few members of Potenco went trampolining at Sky High Sports. Sky High is essentially a couple of basketball-court-sized areas filled with trampolines. You bounce around like crazy, doing flips, playing dodge ball, and generally exhausting yourself. The potential for bodily injury is high, which for me, makes for an excellent holiday party. Afterward, we stuffed ourselves with Indian food.Today, the day after, everyone is nearly too sore to stand up straight.

It's time for EFF's 17th birthday party! They're a great organization, worthy of a donation even if you can't make the party in person. From their website:Join EFF in celebrating our 17th year of defending digital rights! Since 1990, EFF has been there fighting for freedom and civil liberties. The birthday bash will be on January 15, 7-11 PM, at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco. Headliners Adrian & the Mysterious D (A+D), the DJ duo that founded the seminal mashup party "Bootie," will be dropping a shameless, genre-smashing blend of tracks, backed up by DJ sets from Bay Area copyfighters Ripley, Kid Kameleon and EFF's own J Tones and Qubitsu. The EFF party will also feature an exclusive chocolate sampling with TCHO, "a new chocolate company for a new generation of chocolate enthusiasts." Founded by Wired co-founder Louis Rossetto and legendary chocolatier Timothy Childs, himself a former technologist, TCHO will be bringing a "beta release" of its best dark chocolate to the party table. Attendees are invited to vote for their favorite TCHO beta chocolate flavors at the party -- feedback that will help define TCHO's next steps as they gear up for a national release. We'll be asking for a $20 donation at the door. Over the years here at Instructables, we've seen our fair share of truly inspired Holiday Sweaters get posted as folks head to their holiday office parties and family gatherings. We love the home-made handicraft and nostalgia factor holiday sweaters have, and how they can range from totally adorable to wildly over-done. We recently were reminiscing over this collection of Ugly Holiday Sweaters and it struck us that we could have a little fun with the community this holiday season, so we decided to throw an online Ugly Sweater Party this weekend! If you show off a photo of yourself in your holiday finest, or rather holiday ugliest, in this forum post, or on Instagram/Twitter, we'll send you a prize pack with some Instructables goodies. Once you've donned your festive apparel, share it below in the comments, or post a photo and tag your pic with @instructables and #iblesUglySweater so we can see it! We'll repost the best outfits and pictures in our feed. We'll be awarding prize packs to all the folks that participate before Monday 12/17 11:59 PM PST.Want a prize pack but, don't have anything in your closet to show off? Get inspired and get craftin'! Our personal favorites from the community are jessyratfink's Crazy Cat Lady sweater and this Stranger Things sweater by .F that can be programmed with cryptic messages. They both use LED lights as a material but work with different electronics skill levels for the complete beginner as well as the practiced tinkerer, and still show off the range of what is possible for a holiday wearable!Looking for even more ways to celebrate the holidays with Instructables? Check out our Ornament giveaway and Holiday Decor Contest!

Last week I was "volunteered" by friend to help setting up a rented and empty factory building for what he called a VR gaming party. My job was down to somehow get enough cables and power outlets from that rented industrial power box inside the building. And well, organising about 800m of network cables with routers, switches and whatnots :(After a hard days work and testing all we went for a well deserved beer.Next day I pooped in to see how the computers are going and where things like tables, catering stations, portable toilets and so would go.Well, the later ended outside for various reasons...To my surprise all hardware was basically boxed in and then padded all around. And although not even running at full capacity the computers already created a lot of heating the building.(Mind you we getting into the summer here)The most confusing thing was seeing several elevated work platforms with people creating a maze of wires about 2.5m above floor level. Now it dawned on me that this "party" might slightly more than what I was used to in my gaming years. Was curious enough to ask if I could jump in again when the actual thing starts and was invited for a quick test later that night.Walking around in an empty building while thinking you are inside some racing game was a strange thing to say the least.I learned why there where two people around me and my brain not always makes the right decisions without the sensory information provided by my ears matching what my eyes see.A bit later when most players where set up and active I realised that this type of VR is not for me.Ever seen those movies where someone has really bad halucinations and tries to fight against something that is not really there?Yes, that is exactly how it looked like LOLSometimes all is in slow motion then suddenly they jump shoot their virtual guns and go for cover...I guess if you are not in it then you just won't understand.Watching the screens for a while I could at least find some relation to the action but it was like another world if you know what I mean ;)What do you think will the near a slightly further future bring us in terms of virtual reality? Will it affect us as badly as social media and mobile phones already do or will it bring some real benefits for everyone?By the way: Virtual Reality Cars are already in the design visions!Self driving cars that put you into another world while driving - why think you sit in the car if you can put the seat back and immerse yourself into a virtual beach?
