Perfect War Gun

Well, The Dunkis asked for a perfect war gun, so i made one. This thing is packed with innovation (not really), it's got a new way to hold shells, a different way to put a turret,  and a thingy for the ratchet that i put on my ASCB. It is complete with: A slingshot a turret  a pump action gun A trigger that activates the slingshot and the turret a separate trigger for the bottom A turret that doesn't use the tube sort of whatever The only feature this doesn't have is a mag for the pump action part Yes, the on the last picture you can actually see the face that has brought the world happiness :)

The Perfect Costumes for Pillaging

This is me and my sister as pirates. We made pretty much everything from scratch, most parts are made from Simplicity and Vogue patterns. It was SO much fun. One of the photos is (obviously) hyper-edited, but the rest are untouched. I'm in pink, my sister is in black. A few costume tips: - Start early. This gives you time to shop around for cheap fabric and trims. Most of these fabrics came in at $2 a yard or less. - Have a teammate. Two people are more convincing than one somehow. - Think creatively about patterns. Look at costume patterns and normal clothes patterns for parts to use. Combine things from multiple patterns - we used 4 different patterns for this. - Too much is never enough. Layer, add decoration, add parts, whatever.

Finding that perfect brownie

Ok, I have tried and tried and I need some assistance from the Instructable community. My favorite brownies in the world are Ghirardelli's Triple Chocolate Brownie mix. It's a delicious chocolatey blend with 3 different chocolate chips inside (semisweet, milk and bittersweet/dark). The batch comes dry and you add 1/3 oil, 1/3 cup water (though I use coffee), and 1 egg for a 8x8 pan of brownies. My issue is I want to figure out how to make these from scratch. As much as I love them, I'm a scratch kind of girl and I just don't feel like I can call a recipe mine if I'm using a box mix. There's tons of brownie recipes online but none that seem similar. I figured out that the dry mix must obviously have their cocoa powder in it, but I can't find a recipe that has you add egg, oil and water to a dry mix. Many of the recipes I found have you melt one of the chocolates into your chocolate batter, rather than use cocoa powder, but I don't think Ghirardelli does that, unless I'm wrong. And if they did, how would it come as a dry mix? Others might have used powder but then they call for a lot of butter instead just a 1/3 cup of oil. Are there any brownie experts who can figure this one out for me?

Perfect war gun V2

Hey! i'm back with the V2! Okay, this gun fixes all the problems of V1 like: It know has a mag for the pump action part (that shoots 2 blue rods at a time!) the turret doesn't fall off any more looks cleaner it's got a scope and better sights uses quite a few less pieces (not that different more comfy trigger for all three guns are a lot more reliable So, i might be posting, depending on what you guys think, and i need a name for it! Possibly the perfect reflective surface for solar?

For those aware of my open source solar energy project, I've just finished giving the first free construction workshop at the Riverside community in Motueka, New Zealand, which went really well. Details to be posted to the blog in the next couple days. But the point of this post is; for the previous two prototypes of the device I used kitchen foil for the reflective surface, stretched over the back of a welded wire mesh. This worked actually quite well, but takes a bit of prep and you can put your finger straight through the thing. But during the course of the workshop I was donated some 60 cm x 90 cm aluminium lithographic offset printing plates, which a guy had picked up for $1.50 a piece from a local newspaper. I rang their printers and was told that they were not only aluminium, but of a particularly high grade. His company alone, and it wasn't large, apparently scraps about 900 of these every week. He said it was a very common printing process, tho I don't know about countries other than NZ. I didn't really need to polish them, despite being over three years old, and they were a nice thickness to curve into a parabolic trough. So: very cheap, very highly reflective, can get everywhere and nice to work with. Should take environmental wear and tear well. Perfect? We just make home concentrated solar a lot more achievable?

Letter from the Editor: The Perfect Gift

Is it just me, or does it seem like time speeds up around the holidays? It doesn’t matter where I’ve been in life, time seems to enter a sucking vortex towards the end of the year. Every year I have plans to be more clever, more efficient, more thoughtful when it comes to the holidays, and each year I hear myself getting snappier and more impatient with the demands made upon me. “A Christmas list? I don’t have time to think about what you could give me to make my life easier!” That’s right, I’m an ungrateful troll. So in an attempt to keep this holiday-troll at bay, I make lists. I gather supplies. I get excited about what I can make for friends and family, and I set out to learn whole new skill sets to accomplish my goals. This year, a laser-etched arduino-powered cribbage board with hand-carved pegs! Knit socks in decadent colorways for everyone in the family! Infused liqueurs with home-grown fruits and herbs! But let’s face it, last year, I taught myself crochet so I could make a friend a beautiful sampler afghan. It’s almost done! It’s right next to half a sock I started knitting the year before. Oh, and I don’t grow fruit. Still, every year I pride myself in how this year I will make simple gifts for family and friends. I will eschew consumerism! I will not fall prey to deep discounts and crowded malls. I will not find myself waiting by door to accept delivery. And yet, come December 24, you’re likely to find me trying to hide my face in the endless queue at whatever store is still open at midnight, arms rammed full of manufactured goods that no one really needs or will remember, promising myself that next year I will start in May! Let’s get real. I didn’t start in May. I will probably never start in May. But maybe one day, I will learn how to think mindfully about the holidays and what they mean to me. I will think about my loved ones and what they mean to me. I will simplify and know that it is enough. I will learn that it is for the best of everyone that I find time to breathe and to let go. One thing no one wants for the holidays is a cranky troll – I have at least learned that. To be honest, I don’t remember the gifts I receive from year to year. What I remember is the time I get to spend with friends and family. So this year I will try to make myself a simple gift: the gift of time. Time away from a computer, away from responsibility, away from my self-imposed pressures. Time to spend with my loved ones. After all, isn’t that the best gift we can give? Ok, I’m still going to make something for everyone I can. I mean, c’mon, it’s what I do! But reflecting on this helps me remember the point. So how do you handle the holidays?

Is it possible to make perfectly straight cuts with a jig saw?

I recently bought a 40 breeder tank and am working on a stand. I need to make about 19 perfect straight cut on 2x4's. I do not have a circular saw or table saw and the local hardware store does not make accurate cuts. Is there a jig I can make  to make perfect cuts with a jig saw. I was thinking like a box that guides the  2x4 and holds the jig saw in place.

Help me find the perfect gift for "Her"

I have until January 20 to find the perfect gift for what I'd call the perfect woman. She's into Indie bands, works at a music shop, and loves poetry etc. One Idea I had: Guitar inscribed with one huge love poem, but here's the catch: She lives about 13 states away from me (Ohio-Oregon) and I'd have to ship whatever I made. I will take any advice, any designs, instructables, tips ANYTHING you have to offer. I offer nothing of value in return, other than knowing you may have helped another soul. --Max EDIT: I have a budget of $130 but I may be able to raise some more funds.

Perfect battery?, deep cycle, SLA, help!?

Hello, I am one of a group of people that has designed a mobile ice cream cart.  https://www.instructables.com/answers/Got-any-cool-ideas-for-our-Arduino-run-LED-dance-f/ We are currently using 6 of those 7.2 sla batteries. They are set up as a 24v system. But its not good. They are hard to charge. And have begun to swell. We want two smallish deep cycle batteries, set on two battery chargers. Does anyone know a good place to purchase such batteries? Say, 25 or 30 A/hr. Are there batteries for trolling motors? How much should we expect to pay? There are also larger SLA batteries, but I just don't think they are meant to be drains so deeply. (we play this thing for 12 hrs at a time) Thanks in advance! Tor

What feature makes your Work/Craft Table perfect?

We're planning to site build a craft/work table in our downstairs semi-basement space. Can you take a look at your (Non-dining table!) work table and let me know what I should add to the following list, or take into account generally? Taking into account the features I can foresee we need, I find the following desirable: Entire table surface should be something less than 48x96, so it fits in space allotted and can be made from sheet of plywood. A work surface approximately 34" high. This allows you to sit at the table or work standing up, without lower back pain from bending over excessively. A Light table feature in a corner of the table, illuminated from below to allow tracing and viewing of slides, other transparent media. An electrical receptacle in the top or edge of the table, for soldering gun, small fan, other uses that require juice while avoiding extension cord madness. A laminated top. A holder for a roll of 36" white butcher paper under one end. ~ an opening to an undermounted trashbin for easy cleaning I'm planning to pick up some Ikea storage or tool box shelves for under table storage. Thanks in advance for any and all helpful suggestions... Chris

Perfecting DIY dog boot? (Any cobbler gurus out there?)

Hi, I have a dog who I adopted off the street who has a stub for a paw. The padding on his stub is deformed and since he has not toes/claw he is always getting this stub cut up when he runs around (just barely more than a year old and runs around like a nut). He is a real sweetheart and a big lug at the same time (100lbs) which has made it a bit more of a challenge. (I tried to put the photos inline with the post but when i tried to publish the whole post was blank so I just attached them). Design Issues Sleeve/leg durability To resolve this problem I have been trying to make a shoe that will #1 Actually stay on snugly and #2 Last more than a few weeks. It has been an evolution starting off with bought doggie “booties” which were pretty much worthless, to a old indestructible (until now) hiking sock + “shoe goo” to a sewn nylon sleeve thingy + shoe goo. This is the best we have been able to come up with as he destroys (since he is so active), I was going to go to the dump to see if I could get some used airbag material as I had made a dog bed cover from the stuff before (previous dog who was hell bent on digging through her rubber foam bed) and it was friggin bullet proof. Keeping it on So the shoe goo + nylon sock is the closes we have come so far, the sock/sleeve part kind of works because it allows us to “strap it on” above his hock so it doesn’t slip down/off, that worked great when we were using a softer material but this more durable nylon stuff (from an old suit travel bag) seriously rubs around his hock, I am guess I will try some sort of padding (shoe insole?) around the inside where we strap it on, bulky but just using a thick sock to provide a protection wasn’t enough. I’m not in the US (or a western country) at the moment so I haven’t been able to get my hands on proper Velcro and the Velcro I managed to get he has decimated (I think mostly due to crappy Velcro but also again his just scraping up against just about everything) so I was going to try a belt of sorts but am hoping someone has a better idea. Durable Sole that Stays on Shoe goo is the best we have come up with so far for a sole as everything else I tried just didn’t work (tried rubber pipe stopper thingy, Ear Bulb Syringe, modified mini-plunger) either because they didn’t fit how he walks on that foot (can’t describe it but a ball type shape is needed) or they were too hard to affix to a sleeve in a way that they would stay. The best version we have come up with so far has involved the afore mentioned nylon sleeve (durability) with shoe goo smeared in layers on the end. This has been workable but the shoe goo doesn’t stick to the material as well as I would like and is starting to come off after about 2 months. As with the other issues, any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hey friends, I need a good robot controller board or it's design. After a lot of experiments with many boards, I feel that these are the things essential for robot controller. It should have : Atmega 32, at least 1 H-Bridge with intenally connected vcc, 1 LCD cnnector with direct connections, 1 serial link, at least 3 sensor connectors connected to three specific pins, pin out headers for all the other remaining pins..
