LED Guitar Pickups???

Hey guys,I'm interested in putting LED lights in my guitars pickups. I've seen a few people do this on the net and gives a brilliant effect.I know to put this all together on the guitar, the only problem i have is making a circuit for the LED's. I know there are instructables on how to wire LED's but none show any circuit with a switch.I have all the equipment needed for this, eg. LED's, resisitor, 9V battery, toggle switch, wire etc.So basically i'm asking whether someone would be kind enough to show me how to wire 2 series circuits which both consist of 4 LED's which connect back to a switch and a standard 9V battery connector. And if possible, close up pictures would be very helpful. For an idea of what i am on about here is a video of someone who has already done it, but i didn't find his instructions helpful at all.Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Dan

Does this pickup seem ligit?

Http://cgi.ebay.com/Wilkinson-Lic-Pickup-for-4-String-Musicman-Bass_W0QQitemZ260314281489QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item3c9bf0b611&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14A friend and I are making a bass and need to buy a pickup or two for it. After looking around at some sellers on ebay, we came across this one. It seems like a good price, if it's decent, but neither one of us know a lot about bass pickups (we're taking it to a third party to have it wired). So will this be worth getting? Are there any tell-tale signs that suggest it is or isn't any good?

Winding Method For Guitar Pickups?

I just finished putting together a Savonius wind turbine:https://www.instructables.com/id/ERTAINQF18DW99A/One of the things I really want to work on for the next version is improving the inductance of the coils. Someone told me today that there's a whole community of musicians focussed on wiring their own guitar pickups. He said they do cool stuff with modified sewing machines and the like.Has anyone run across people or projects like this? Do you have you own favorite methods for quickly and effectively making copper coils? I'm thinking something in the 36 gauge thickness with several hundred wraps. So far, I've managed to do okay with 28 gauge wound up in aluminum bobbins by a variable speed drill, but I know there's got to be a better way.

Schematics/Instructions for guitar pickup Sustainer?

I saw some pickups  for sale, sustainers, I thought "oh thats cool" but they are way above my budget. Besides that I love the sound of my current pickups. What I want to know is how to make a sustainer  with on/ off switch for my 3 coil single coil strat. It would be neat to have on/off but I could do without and just make one pickup sustaining. Any tips schematics links, etc, are very welcome.

Dirt Cheap Acoustic Guitar Pickup

Hi I am concerned about the health and safety aspects of the instructable of "Dirt Cheap Acoustic Guitar Pickup by Xuthal". The project encourages people to take apart a smoke detector to obtain a piezo sounder. However no warning at all is given by the author that there may be radioactive material in the device, or how to recognise it and how to deal with it. I tried to post a warning on the article but for some reason it hasn't worked. I could not see how to flag up the item so I am posting here. Whilst the manufacturers of smoke alarms play down the dangers of Americium 241 dioxide (the radioactive material), they would most certainly not condone opening up a smoke detector sensor. Am O2 will most likely pass straight through the gut due to its insolubility, so your readers are probably safe from ingesting it. However, if the source is fractured into dust particles, it could be inhaled and will lodge in the lung for a long time. Being an alpha emitter the Am241 will very likely end up causing a lung cancer. I think this instructable is highly irresponsible and should be removed. In any case the item taken from the smoke detector, a piezo transducer, is readily available from any hobby electronics supplier and costs less than the battery to power the detector in the first place!

DIY Plug-In Hybrid Pickup Truck

Hi everyone, For a while, I've had this as my "back-burner" project. I'm trying to really get going on it now. It's an Open Source, DIY, Plug-in Diesel/Electric Hybrid Pickup truck. That's really a mouthful, so I'm just calling it the "SuperTruck" project, until I can come up with a better name. The entire concept is that it is a parallel hybrid, which you can charge from the wall, and it has a diesel engine that can run on diesel, bio-diesel, and possibly veggie oil. Either the engine OR forklift motor will be able to propel the vehicle. (Meaning that it will have a dedicated EV mode.) The driver can manually decide to run it on diesel, electric, or both depending on the driving situation. The mechanicals are relatively simple. It uses a manual transmission (rather than a CVT or planetary gearing.) In theory, this will be a project than any advanced grease monkey will be able to duplicate. I'm not much of a car guy, but I have learned quite a bit working on my electric motorcycle, electric car, and experimenting with running my car as a hybrid. Here's a YouTube playlist of what I've got going so far. For the latest on this project, please visit the page for it on my blog: http://300mpg.org/projects/supertruck/ I'll definately need help on this project, so please tell all your friends about it!

How to wire a guitar pickup to instrument cable/ rheostat?

I have been wanting an acoustic pickup but don't really want to buy one. I had an old tele neck pickup with a white and red wire and an instrument cable that has one jack taken off and the ground and hot contact exposed. I tried different configurations of the red and white wires to the hot and ground of the instrument cable but all it did was stop buzzing and no sound came out. I think I might need a volume and i have a leftover rheostat but I'm not sure how to wire it, If I could avoid wiring a volume completely and just go from pickup to cable that would be great but I'm not sure how. Help please??

Making an electric Guitar - where do I put the pickups and bridge etc? Answered

there are several great sets of instructions on how to make an electric guitar, but they all same something like. Route the spaces for the Pickups where required. How do I know where the pickups need to go. I guess there is some sort of rule about how far apart the pickups should be from each other, and how far from the neck and bridge?

I have done some modification on pickups and preamps using opamps to amplify the signal. Since neodymium magnets are more powerfull than what they normally put in pickups I wonder what kind of sound would be generated?

can I use harddrive magnets in a guitar pickup build? Answered

O.K. I saw the question on the internet but never an answer. I build CBGs and desire to build pickups. I get using transformers like step down or AC to DC puttin a magnet inside the coil of the secondary. These Harddrive magnets are shaped like an arc and are some kind of strong, watch your fingers, they snap together big time. How can I use them and if I have to cut them any ideas?

Help! Building an optical pickup for a bass guitar.

I am building a bass guitar and would love to have an optical pickup on it. I am a experienced with building circuits but i need help. This is what i know so far. There will be an ir led on one side of the string and a photo diode on the other. This will cast a shadow on the photo diode to make an analog signal. One led and one sensor for each individual string. Then I am lost, all I know is that it has to go though an oscillator of some sort to produce the sound. If anyone could give me a good schematic that would  be great.

reverse connected guitar pickups make strings resonate - how to make it stronger?

Hey all ,  im having a problem ,  i connected some guitar pickups to send frequencys instead of receiving , when close to a certain section of a piano , it makes the strings resonate , and i can play music thru the strings (i even get voice timbres) now , my problem is like that - the vibrations are extremely soft ,and i need to somehow make them stronger ,  i think one of the ways would be to magnetify the strings , but i would really like to know if there is a way to strengthen the pickup signal without blowing anything up , anyone has an idea? i think it has to do with electro-magnet power , so amplifing it should work , but adding a 5 watt small amp didn't make any diference...

Ive built a wiring diagram for a guitar to give it a very wide varity of sound, but is it practical and affordable?

This wireing allows the player to control all aspects of having 3 humbucking pickups, but is it worth it? in the picture it shows 3 humbucking pickups. the middle and neck are small humbucking pickups (single-sized) in order to do this a portion of my guitar wil need to be taken out (or I have to find a new pickgaurd that will fit, which Ibanez does not have in stock) to make room for the new electonics this is permantent, so before I hackaway at my guitar I need to make sure i can afford this and that it will work and be practiacal

How many Distortion pedals could I use at once, and would it make much difference?

So I had a revelation yesterday and i thought of the idea of using 2 or more distortion/overdrive pedals on a custom pedalboard, for my electric guitar. I'm very reluctant to try because I don't know what will happen, and as a school kid I dont really have any money to throw away. What I want to know is has this been done before?; Will it mess up my amp, or worse my guitar?; And Will it have any effect on the sound, or will it remain constant? Thanks for your time :D if no one answers. I might just dare to try

Projects for a broken Acoustic-electic

Took my ephiphone EJ to show at a party awhile ago. Drunk folks (with steel toed boots, apparently) were messing with it I guess and someone knocked it on the floor and put their foot through it. i took it to my local guitar store and they told me the repairs would probably cost more than the guitar and it would sound terrible anyway. the bracers inside are cracked and completely broken off in some places. so i'm probably going to dismember it for parts. any ideas for projects? theres a little preamp, plus a saddle and a neck pickup inside. ideally i would like to use the pickups to electrify my other acoustic, but it's sort of nice so i don't really want to go putting holes in it .maybe a soundhole pickup? i don't know a lot about pickups. i'm open to other ideas, too. just so long as the pieces of her corpse go to good use. she would've wanted it that way.

2003 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Radio not working

So, I have the OEM radio in it right now. Its a radio/cassette player. You can play a cassette and hear the audio just fine. But when you go to the radio, nothing. No sound at all. Not even static. And if I scan for stations, it'll just keep running, won't find anything. I pulled the radio out, made sure the antennae was connected, followed the wire as much as I could from the back of the radio to the antennae and didn't find/see any breaks/cuts. Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas? Thanks.

Adding a Buzzer to the Turn Signal Circuit on Ford Pickup

I have a 1990 Ford F150. The turn indicator lights are extremely small and well below the line of sight to the instrument cluster. More often than I like to admit, I will indicate a lane change or turn not great enough to cancel the switch; and the turn signal will stay on because I forget to cancel it. I don't like to see people like me driving with a turn signal on because it's unsafe. I need to fix this. I've checked parts houses for an indicator replacement switch that makes a louder sound and found none. I'm thinking about adding a 70-80 db buzzer to the circuit such that the buzzer will sound when the turn signal is active. In shopping around for a buzzer, I've found widely varying prices and widely varying ranges of voltage that they will require. I'm looking to keep this very inexpensive in case the idea doesn't work out (besides, I'm cheap!). I found a package of 12 buzzers for $7.00 designed for circuit boards that will give me 85 db sound pressure, but they take a 5VDC feed. The truck circuit is 12VDC. I have no idea how many amps they draw but it can't be much. I have very limited knowledge about electronics but assume that a 12v supply will burn these buzzers out if I don't lower it. I'm thinking that I could find the 'hot-on-indicator-on' wire, splice into it and run a wire through something to reduce the voltage (an old automobile cell phone charger, maybe?) then to the buzzer. Is my idea feasible? Am I using a cannon to shoot a flea? I'd greatly appreciate, and be very grateful for, any and all suggestions and comments.cb

What excellent examples in CAD of low drag coefficient pickup trucks exist that are available on the internet?

Vehicles have been designed to minimize the aerodynamic drag with notable success. Production candidate vehicles (such as Aptera, Twike, and Honda Insight) achieving drag coefficients of 0.25 down to 0.11. Solar Challenge vehicles have reached 0.07. Nose cone and fastback upper and sealed or faired lower body designs can achieve significant reductions in drag, and are worth attention. I am attempting to optimize a design for pickup trucks and cross-over utility (CUV) vehicles that are based on the same basic chassis design. Can anyone contribute designs, examples, or sources of information on optimized pickup design? BTW, I am simultaneously searching for a safe design that has the vehicle center of gravity at or below the axle height, as it should be to prevent roll-over accidents. Risk of injury and death are significantly higher in pickup trucks and CUVs than cars, and now pickups and CUVs account for more than 50% of new vehicle sales. This tragic fact needs to be reversed with safer design.
