Measuring the piezo transducer with oscilloscope

Hi, I am conecting a piezo disc as a microphone to pick up vibrations. .The problemm is when I measure the signal with osciloscope I am getting a messy and modified one with many noise  If I am measuring it with PC oscilloscope (threw the sound card mic input) I am gatting a clean desirable signal What is the true signal and what I am doing bad with the oscilloscope. Surface Agitation with out a transducer? Answered

Well, i'm working on a sound project, the idea is simple, a metal sheet that is agitated by a speaker or a piezo. but it seems that the piezo and the speaker i'm using is still insufficient to shake the metal sheet, and i don't want to spent money importing a transducer from SparkFun. So the question is, how can I do it? The speaker i'm using is 4ohm 6Wats, do i need a stronger one? if so, stronger ohmd or wats? or both?

I saw a post about an energy-generating device on shoes which generates electricity when walking. Piezoelectric transducers were used to generate energy but not enough to charge the battery full or even half full. Are there alternatives to Piezoelectric transducers that generates more energy than piezo? Thanks.

How would I make a cheap displacement sensor? Answered

EMT 140 plate reverb transducer & pickups. I want to build studio quality components.

Hello group. I am entertaining a spring project for duplicating the famous German made EMT 140 plate reverb units used at recording studios like Abbey Road. The construction of the plate, supports, box, welding and such is really not a problem for me personally. Even the pickups I don't think are a huge problem as there are many out there ready made and it's probably easier to make a high quality pickup than a high quality transducer. I would however like to build my own transducer but don't know exactly where to start. I don't want to go the piezo route that I see out there as I think that is not going to end up being anywhere near usable in a studio. I'm not opposed to converting a hacked up speaker or something that doesn't look pretty as long as it works. The typical plate reverb build (the main structure and plate) I believe is with a steel plate about 1 meter wide by 2 meters long suspended within another steel frame and tuned (tension even on all 4 corners). Also, there is a damper that you need to build to lengthen or shorten the delay. This general construction I don't see to be a roadblock but the transducer seems to be what I think may trip me up. I would just like to get something working before I dive in on several days of picking up heavy metal, welding and fabrication of the supporting structure and plate. Some things I would like to understand and advice on are: What type of transducer am I really trying to build here or what type of transducers do you think I should consider? Surface? Tactile? Bone? Can I use a regular speaker magnet? If so what is too big or too small for the plate? What gauge varnish coil wire do I use and how many winds for 8 ohm amp? What sort of material should I wind over? Should I just modify a speaker or driver? Are there any other quality units out there ready made to save me the pain of building this transducer from scratch? I do have a Dayton Audio HDN-8 on order to start experimenting but would like to get something better I think. Building a pickup seems to be infinitely easier since I already know how to build guitar pickups and also there are a huge selection of pickups for things like acoustic and mandolin etc. so that I assume is the easy part of the electronics. Still if there are any design ideas you know that would be studio quality I would like to hear from you. My main focus is the heart of the system and the transducer. I have seen a few different methods converting a speaker by cutting out most of the speaker except for the center and then super glue to a metal rod that would touch the plate or whatever but I'm certain that there may be a more simple solution out there. I would like to know how much force should be applied to get and output of 8v on a piezo electric ring.

I would like to make a mobile phone charger using a piezo electric crystal which can be placed inside our shoe, so that when we walk, we step on the piezo electric crystal and thus we can charge our mobile. for that i would like to kno more about piezo electric crystals, and how much force is to applied for getting an output of around 8 v and type of crystal to be used for this purpose. Thermoacoustic electric generation at high frequency? Answered

The goal: cheap, easy(ish) electricity. The power source: concentrated sunlight or fire. The question: Has anyone here made them self one of these? : a thermoacoustic electric generator which runs at high frequency. I'm not talking about a sterling engine at least not exactly. Rather I'm looking to make something that resonates much faster and could be harnessed with a voicecoil or a piezo electric transducer. This has been done by grad students and researchers but I haven't seen any built by the DIY crowd. There are some startups around who tout this method because it is more efficient than a sterling engine and easier to build because there are essentially no moving parts or sliding seals. The higher frequency seems to be the tipping point in efficiency because there is less gas moving but moving with the same energy: "Minimizing the flow velocity of the gas overcomes viscous losses inside the regenerator, whose tiny pores allow heat to move between gas and solid most efficiently." http://www.americanscientist.org/issues/feature/the-power-of-sound/5 I'm thinking of making something with common materials: a loop of steel pipe and speakers or a bunch of piezo buzzers and a bike tire valve to add compressed air (for higher frequency oscillation). Dirt Cheap Acoustic Guitar Pickup

Hi I am concerned about the health and safety aspects of the instructable of "Dirt Cheap Acoustic Guitar Pickup by Xuthal". The project encourages people to take apart a smoke detector to obtain a piezo sounder. However no warning at all is given by the author that there may be radioactive material in the device, or how to recognise it and how to deal with it. I tried to post a warning on the article but for some reason it hasn't worked. I could not see how to flag up the item so I am posting here. Whilst the manufacturers of smoke alarms play down the dangers of Americium 241 dioxide (the radioactive material), they would most certainly not condone opening up a smoke detector sensor. Am O2 will most likely pass straight through the gut due to its insolubility, so your readers are probably safe from ingesting it. However, if the source is fractured into dust particles, it could be inhaled and will lodge in the lung for a long time. Being an alpha emitter the Am241 will very likely end up causing a lung cancer. I think this instructable is highly irresponsible and should be removed. In any case the item taken from the smoke detector, a piezo transducer, is readily available from any hobby electronics supplier and costs less than the battery to power the detector in the first place!
