Is there something I can do with old bed pillows besides throw them out? I am told to buy new pillows every 6 months, but what a waste, not to mention all those pillows going to the landfill.

I have made two of the envelope pillow covers and on the back the opening does not lay close and flat like the picture shows. My thought was a tight fitting pillow would cause the opening to split open but both pillows fit loose and still the opening still does not stay closed. Any ideas on what is causing the gap? Any ideas on how to prevent it?

I'm wanting to build a heat sink for my head/pillow at night. The reason? My head frequently gets too hot at night giving me bad dreams, headaches, and sometimes keeping me up for hours. What I've come up with is steel or copper BBs contained in a thin plastic bag to prevent corrosion and enclosed in fabric for comfort and durability. Does anyone have a better idea, especially for the heat sink (metal) part?

I found this on a website but it's a bit pricey for me. I'd love to make one for my girlfriend but I have no idea where to start. The design seems simple enough but there are parts that puzzle me, like the charging and wiring. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Rei HuggableFrom the site:We have wrote about this glowing pillow a loooong time ago, but now it's finally out of production and in the market and we are so happy to present it to you. What it is? Well for starters it's a soft and fuzzy pillow filled with 'silicone bean bags' that contain high intensity LED lights. These LED lights in the silicone beads make the entire pillow glow in an extremely calming and soothing way. Powered by 4 AA batteries – or if you prefer to hook it up to the adaptor, that's possible as well – the pillow glows strongly for about 4 hours and then the lights ever so softly fade over the next couple hours.

I am making square pillow covers using 19" forms. The back will have what is often called an envelope opening with overlapping edges. I want to have a decorative triangular shaped flap on the front, similar to that on mailing envelopes, that will close with either velcro or a big button. I am wondering if it would be easier to actually make an envelope, opening the flap to insert the pillow form. I don't know if the form will show at the top corners. If anyone has made a pillow cover like this or has instructions, I would really appreciate any help/advice you can provide. :>) Thx! Julie

I have loads of those air pillows/cushions that are used for packaging fragile items in the post and wanted to know if I could use them for insulation? Mainly the effectiveness but also safety. Any comments would be really appreciated.

Ok here's a pretty good joke I heard earlier ... .... .... Ok so there were three rugby players ... one from australia (yeh) one from south africa (eh) and one from NZ (ooh!) so the go down to uh one of the certain countries where alcahol is band (???) they end up having a party and well start to drink some beer and all that ... then a local police officer comes to see whats going on ... he finds out what they've been up to and starts to whip the three ... but "Hey South Africa, I heard you played well in the world cups, so I am going to grant you a wish before I give you your 30! lashes" (officer) "Ok, I wish for one pillow strapped to my back please." (SA) So the cop lashes him 1,3,5,and ten times. But the pillow disintegrates and the player carries 20 lashes "Hey, it's australia ... I saw you played really well durig the games!! I'll grant you one wish before I give you your 30 lashes." (officer) "Ok I wish for 2 pillows strapped to my back!" (aussie) he gets whipped 20 times and his 2 pillows fade away too so he recieves 10 lashes. "Wow it's NEW ZEALAND !!! I seen you play REAL well in the games I 'm happy to grant you 2 wishes" "Ok for my first wish I want 50 lashes" NZ "ohh someones trying to be the tough guy hahaha" (cop) "and for my second wish i want that AUSSIE strapped to my back instead!" NZ Ok that was it please comment!

I'm building a Christmas present for my 2 year old nephew... The goal is to build a monster trap for his room. My current plan calls for a large 2-3 ft. net, framed with a lightweight material, this would be attached to the ceiling of his bedroom by dad. In the apparatus that attached the net to the ceiling there is some form of 'quick release' mechanism that is triggered by some form of sensor hidden in a pillow, platform, cardboard box... a big stuffed banana -something that resembles monster bait. The physical parts of simple enough but I'm wondering what options I have for the sensor and quick release... I'm pretty handy with radio gear and fly quadcoptors so I'm pretty sure I can rassle up something.. Any ideas? Parts for Monster Trap: - one lg net, preferrably framed - radio controlled quick release - light sensor w/ radio transmitter - pillow or something to mount the light sensor in - screws to ceiling mount the net

Something on the cheaper side would be great to fill it up. I don't really have any decorations in my room to be truthfull. I like my bed, that's the only thing I put care into. Lots of pillows. I also have two huge windows with long brown curtains if that helps. But the wall across from my bed is big and blank!
I do a lot of needlecrafts so I have yarn scraps of all descriptions & I would like to use them in some productive way. I want to use them to wet felt into something that I could then make into a pillow or whatever. Theoretically, it should work. If anyone has any ideas or comments please let me know. thanks

I salvaged an AC motor from an old water pump I found on the side of the road and want to use it to make a simple lathe for turning green wood bowls and cups. I was thinking about using a floor flange as the face plate, a nipple for the shaft and pillow bearing blocks to support it. This assembly would be driven by a v belt and controlled by the speed controller from a jig saw. I attached pictures of the components and a simple cad drawing of the assembly. Do you think this would be functional? Any recommendations?

Hey guys, I'm a soon-to-be college freshman and a very heavy sleeper. I contacted my soon-to-be roommate, and it turns out he's a very light sleeper and is frightened by waking up to loud noises. Of course, coming from a house where I used a phone hooked to a guitar amplifier as an alarm clock, I figured I'd have to change my waking habits. I heard from my father about an alarm clock system that utilizes pillow-mounted vibrators, but that costs waaaay too much, and I'm already going to have to balance a job or two just to get by paying tuition. Besides, I don't like buying things I can build at home. So here's my situation: I have a five-volt vibrating massager that plugs into USB ports that I wanna use as a pillow-mounted vibrator in college, so I don't wake my roomie up with a fright. My phone has a 3.5mm plug that I use to connect it to the guitar amplifier. My question is: How can I build an amplifying circuit that'll power the vibrating motor enough to work with the signal from the phone (or any alarm clock signal, for that matter)? I need 5 volts to power the motor. That much I know. I haven't measured the signal from the phone, since I haven't access to a volt-meter, at the time. HELP ME PLEASE!! Thanks.

Hi, I have been trying to do the step-by-step tutorials on how to do the CitraSolv image transfers and I can't get the image to transfer. Everyone is commenting how quick and easy it is......well - it is but when I lift the paper I have no image! I went to Staples for some toner based black and white photocopies of my image. Came home and did everything it said to do. No image! Went to Kinkos the next day and the man behind the counter assured me that all the copiers were toner based cartridges (I even opened up the side door and saw the toner cartridge myself!). I made some more copies and followed the instructions for the transfer and still - Nothing! No image. I burnished harder, added more liquid, held my mouth just right...... What the heck am I doing wrong? I really want to do this for some pillows I am making for a gift for a friend....... Anyone? Help please......

I will be going to college soon and have found out that my roommate gets shaken by loud noises, so I had to abandon my guitar-amp amplified phone alarm for a quieter alternative. I was referred to a vibrating alarm system that fits into pillows and runs on signal from music players and/or plain ol' alarm clock inputs, but those are waaay too expensive, and I prefer building my own over buying. Here's the situation: I have a USB-powered vibrating massager that I got for free at some tech convention. Since it's USB-powered, I know it runs on 5 volts, which is more than my phone's 3.5 mm plug can deliver. How can I build an amplifier circuit that will boost the signal from my phone enough to run the motor? Thanks

Hello everybody I think you might find this exercise fun and at the same time original ideas are needed! Thanks In advance!! I'm studying design and this exercise has become a classic at my school. Since 10 years ago students have tried to reach the objective but also to develop an original and creative solution. The exercise is to develop a kind of device in order to be able to drop an egg from a window in the first floor and land it safely on the ground at a distance that has to be less than 3 cm from it. Plain Parachutes and slides are forbidden as they are too obvious unless they have a distinctive aspect and also you can`t wrap the egg in something soft (like a pillow) and drop it. Important things to take notice are: -The person has to loose all contact with the egg (You can´t hold a fishing rod with an egg on the end of the line and slowly get it down). -It must be a raw chicken egg Thanks!!
