What new games are good

Think students playing games on their laptops during class is bad? What about parliament members playing games during government policy sessions? The parliament of Bhutan, a small country in the Himalayas, has decided to ban laptops so that lawmakers will stop playing computer games while the Bhutanese parliament is in session. It is not however true that we were always playing games, said the MP, who is from the governing Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT). We need the laptops because that saves us the trouble of having to carry huge amounts of paper and documents. He makes a good point: playing game after game of tic-tac-toe does require a huge amount of paper. What games do you think they were playing?

So, I live in a dorm now with a few other students. We'd like to play a game together on our personal laptops, but we don't know which ones would be good to play. Requirements: 1. No internet access required. 2. 2-16 players or more. Multiplayer-only games are OK, but single player would be nice too. 3. Mainstream games are fine, but if you know of any indie games, that would be even better. 4. It doesn't have to be new. In fact, from 1990-2008 would be just fine. 5. Most of all, it has to be fun to play. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Oh my... Coffee beans!.Let's try this again! ..Challenge: Oh my! I lost my precious special coffee beans! I need to travel around the world searching for them. Will you help me stay awake for that? I will need loooots of coffee for my mission ;)Design a new coffee filter! Collaborate and innovate together - find a new way to filter coffee. Do not use anything expensive and try not to create too much waste ;) Let's go!... How does this game work: 1) First collect ideas for a coffee filter here under this thread until Monday, March 04th midnight PST - write down what you think would work, freely. (Add in to the already collected ideas - challenge yourself!)2) Look at and discuss others' ideas here, while they are being collected.3) Select one idea that you like, and form teams - prototype together, form an Instructable, make it Collaborative. Or alternatively, just add in your existing Instructable and make it Collaborative. Innovate together! A very rough prototype that shows the principle is sufficient. The time limit for this step is to be announced - not more than several days. 4) Collect the 'ibles here under this thread (or I could make a collection of 'ibles if possible) 5) Let's vote and see which new coffee filter is the best! Try to win the most votes and be on the 'podium'!...I will always be around here - you could ask me anything and also give feedback :).Disclaimer: This is part of a research for my PhD at Istanbul Technical University, department of Industrial Design. (or any other one) which claims (for $29) to be sort of like AnyDVD/Clone DVD in that you merely install and run it and can then make backup copies of Wii game DVDs??

A very informal poll for everyone. Do you play video games on a regular basis of at lest once a week? If so, what system(s) do you currently play on and what kinds of games do you play? I'll start. system: ps2, ds games: guitar hero 2, elite beat agents, currently downloading Team Fortress 2

We all get bored at some point, right? Or we just want to slack off from school or work. So we play games we call flash games. Some of them completely suck, while some could have been sold for a price and been insanely successful (might be exaggerating a bit there). My point is what are some of your favorites? Personally I liked The Last Stand, Unreal Tournament, Tanks, and I can't remember any more right now...

I was just wondering how easy it would be to make your own simple game console to hook up to tvs. dosent have to have 3d graphics but it would be a plus. i just kinda want something to play around with and make my own games for it. price isnt really a problem but even a computer that can run .exes from a cd, and plug into a tv, and posibly even play through a online server with other people. edit: ok i meant like using microcontrolers now. i want to make a gamboy like system and possibly even wireless. i know you can play games using micro comtrolers, but no idea what i would need. anyone with any idea about this please comment. oh, and a lcd screen too, so that would prolly ne a little work, but im up for it

Here's my situation. I got Call of Duty: Special Editon 3 for the ps2 after playing the Xbox 360 version because I loved the multiplayer mode. But when my ps2 game arrived, it was only playable in single or online. I have close to dial-up internet. I have a Wii, Ps2, DS lite and Computer, So I was thinking about just selling it and buying it again for the wii. But I don't know if it has multiplayer (local). I could also get a newer call of duty. My last option is selling my ps2 and it's 14+ games and buying an Xbox 360. What should I do?

Everyone loves video games. And most everyone loves social change. So, video games for social change.... a sure winner! If you're in New York City next week, be sure to check out the Games for Change Conference. It's hosted by Parsons School of Design, the greatest school on the planet (I might be biased).

Can someone please tell me how to "crack" a game torrent. Is there a certain type of software that I can download for free? If so please list it and can you give me step-by-step instructions on how to do this(cracking). What exactly does it mean to crack a game? Remember I am dealing with streaming torrents that have been downloaded from the internet! Thanks

LiveScience is reporting that playing video games before bed can help gamers control their dreams. This can be helpful for those who have troublesome dreams. "If you're spending hours a day in a virtual reality, if nothing else it's practice," said Jayne Gackenbach, a psychologist at Grant MacEwan University in Canada. "Gamers are used to controlling their game environments, so that can translate into dreams." I can personally attest to the fact that playing a ton of Tetris will affect your dreams. You'll be seeing those blocks fall down, endlessly clearing lines. After playing the heck out of Resident Evil 4 I had dreams of fighting back zombies for months. Far from a nightmare, I always found it to be a fun challenge. Does anyone else have any experiences with video games and dreams? Video Gamers Can Control Dreams, Study Suggests via Slashdot

I think it's a great idea, but I wouldn't even know where to get started on the technical aspect, nor the legalities involved. The game is basically a walk through an instructables-inspired home-built city of interesting devices and systems all loosely (or even exactly!) based on actual instructables. During the games as you explore you stumble on different tasks that you have to complete. You find parts to complete tasks scattered about the city, or win them for completing smaller tasks. Thoughts?

I want to get a new system, and I'm not sure if I should get an Xbox360 or a PS3. 360 has a whole bunch of awesome games, and PS3 has free online gaming. I'm not sure which one to choose. Which one is better? PLEASE DON'T JUST POST SAYING THINGS LIKE "Oh ps3 suks" or "I have a 360"

I used to like console gaming because systems rarely/never costed more than $300, it was simple, and everybody had the same stuff. There were no expensive HDTVs, broadband-requiring/expensive online play, the fanciest peripheral was the rumble pack, and your console didn't do anything except light up a power light if there was no game in it.I'm not rich, my parents have never owned a house, and with all the fancy crap that consoles require and do today, I can't afford even a Wii (not that I'd want one, the novelty has worn off). I'm not saying all these improvements in gaming are bad, but for someone like me, I just don't have the money for a shiny new 360, or even high-speed internet (I live on an acerage and there's no cable in the country) for online muiltiplayer/communication.For now, I'll just have to fondly remember having home tournaments playing Star Wars Episode 1 Pod-Racer on N64 with my friends. What do YOU think about gaming today?

I don't have much information about this game aside from a vague description, but if anyone recognizes this, please speak up. So... What I know about this game, is that it is a multiplayer "rail shooter" type game for the original playstation. I remember that each player controlled a crosshair and each crosshair had a special attack. I remember the setting looking almost post-apocalyptic with destroyed buildings and tall skyscrapers. If anyone has the remotest idea of what I'm talking about, speak up please. I'll make sure to check all of the games in this genre.

I know there are instructions all over the internet on how to do this but as far as i can tell the instructions are without the original disk, if i have the original disk is there a way to download all the information to the computer so that i can launch the game from a folder? a way that doesn't make punkbuster (EA games) kick me if i play online. essentially i want a digital disk so i can use the original as a backup and i won't have to worry about my family removing my disks and destroying them (they tend to leave disks anywhere they can put them down). As a random note im always worried that when transfering my disk from the case to the drive that something will happen as in the past i have been pushed and i dropped the disk, it landed on an uneven surface and someone stepped on in breaking it.

Hey, guys. I am attempting to make my own console type-device. I need a program, though. It has to be able to list the video games currently installed on a pc and be able to execute them (start playing them from that program.) The program would initialize upon start up of the PC. It would be preferred if it had a nice GUI with cool graphics, but at this point, I'll take what I can get. Oh, and it will either be a Linux or Windows PC, so the program has to run on either one of those OS's. I am pretty sure I will have to write a program at this point, but I hope not. Thanks in advance for the help!
