Plot a diagonal line? Answered

PD17200,11600; i am sure I should know this. I need to plot a diagonal line from 17200 to 11600  Obviously there are more X points than Y points. Is there a handy algorithm to work out how may X points to ploy against Y? My current solution is to extract the difference - 5600 and divide the Y by that  11600/5600 = 2.1 So you plot 2.1 Y points for every X point. Somehow this seems wrong? i am sure I should know this.

help writing a story?

I know that this type of question has been absolutely done to death (where did that expression come from anyway?) but I have a premise for a science fantasy story. I have a skeleton of an Idea of what the story will be, but here's what I have so far. Time: unspecified. Disaster: sometime in the distant past, a disaster the likes of which hadn't been seen since the biblical day's of old was swiftly falling upon the land. Somewhere in in the middle of the pacific ocean, a poisonous green fog begins to seep off of an unremarkable island, volcanic in origin, about a square mile in size. This wouldn't have been a problem, since such a small amount of fog would have eventually lost itself in the vastness of the planets atmosphere, and the stuff it was made of was largely biodegradable through a variety of ways found in nature. So it was sensationalized for a while, with the usual kerfluffle, and then it was quietly forgotten as some new crisis arose, banished to the shady corners of science, with only the ocassional visit from some obscure science foundation sponsored trip. And that was that. That is, until, somebody noticed it was growing. And  sure enough, it seemed that, contrary to what the specialists said, it was slowly, steadily, patiently growing, getting thicker and thicker. Eventually, (about four years) an expedition was chartered to go into the now opaque cloud. Here is one adventurers account of what it was like. " After a looong and boring flight, we neared the destination. Looking out, all I could see was what looked like a big greenish-brown mound. the truly weird thing about it was that it's edges weren't very well defined and looked like what you would expect something like a giant cloud of steam would look like that was left to dissipate, but there was a definite edge to it that billowed like a great sheet of canvas in the wind" Note: this is not the end of the story and setting, just my present atention span. I promise to include more of the setting and premise in the comments, but for now i'm completely fried.

How to graph MPU6050 data?

I am using the MPU6050 sensor. I want to plot the graphs of accelerometer and the gyroscope data that I am reading via arduino. I have created a programme where I can plot 3D blocks of accelerometer and the gyroscope and then use the Complementary Filter to combine them together and get a nice and precise data. However, now I want to use the processing to plot the data from the accelerometer and the gyroscope and also to show the comparison with the complementary filter. Does anyone know how can I do that or anyone know any tutorial regarding this or has done a similar programme?

Does anyone have any good ideas for an action movie?

My friend Josh and I considered making an action movie, mostly just for kicks and giggles. however, I need a good, solid Idea in order to write the script. I already tried facebook, but got nowhere. anyway, I was thinking something along either a James Bond style or a Matrix style.  in the paraphrased words of Neo, "it's going to need guns. lots of guns." also any tips on cheap (safe?) stunts, camera tips, and other helpful hints are welcome and appreciated. I have access to some high-adventure equipment , so heights aren't much of an issue on the stunts point. Thanks in advance! Ciao!

Stepper motors, plotters, millers and Arduino??? How does it work!?

So I would love to have a little help here understanding how these arduino drawing, milling, and plotting contraptions work. So I know that the stepper motor is for precision, but when you hook it up to gears and stuff, how does arduino know where the stepper motor is if its like on a track or gear? Say you have a stepper motor connected to a corkscrew gear. Some corkscrew gears may be large and others may be small. How does Arduino know where the motor is on that plane?? How do you import pictures or 3D objects to Arduino to make it draw/plot/mill? Thanks!

User statistics report -- breakdown by traffic source is buggy

Here's the second bug I've found with the resurrected user statistics report (/you/stats/).  If you choose the option "By Traffic Source", the y-axis scale and detailed numbers get really weird. The first plot below shows the inclusive last-3-months data for my top five I'bles, while the second shows the same data broken down by traffic source. As you can see, the data points are all at 62 and 125 (from which I guess that the first is actually 62.5 :-). I think what's happened is that the data has gotten multiplied by 500/8 before plotting.

If I want a flat screwdriver in an odd size, I can take a piece of metal, heat it, pound it flat on one end and file or grind to shape; something within reach of even the clumsiest blacksmith. Is there some trick I'm missing that allows similarly simple home construction of a philps-style screwdriver? Or are they part of a plot to allow only factories to make screwdrivers :-)

DC power logging, or at least measuring (for solar panel & devices)

I have searched and searched, but I can't seem to find what I need. I want to be able to log power and plot a V-I graph and a P-t graph. I was picturing tapping into an iphone charge cable (for example) and wiring in connections. Here, I could connect the device, so that when i connect the phone via charging usb cable, current runs through the device and is measured, and voltage is read from inlet of the device to gnd. Do these exist? I'd like to also use it for a solar panel (putting a big wire loop resistor for a load to draw max power) so that I could see where the power tops out, what voltage is yielded when the max current is drawn, etc. It would be nice to be able to plot data points in excel for example. Any idea? Even if I can't LOG the data, I'd like to be able to read instant power use, not just V and A. I've seen the inline USB meters that do that. Anything helps! Thank you!

Probably some older versions are free or cheap, or there are any other programs? I looks like I'm only going to use it in the summer as they probably should give something to students... Inkless printer- Laser or Heat to engrave Paper

Hello,I am currently searching for projects that print on paper using heat, lasers or other inkless technology. The problem I ran into is that a search for burn, laser and thermal in combination with printer and paper allways brings many results that are irrelevant (laser printers, thermal transfer printers and such). What I did find is http://www.flickr.com/photos/jabella/438212343/in/set-72157600033633262/ for example. Though commercial laser solutions seem a bit "too much" and overpriced to plot a bit on paper.Does anyone here have any links to projects that use heat or other methods to print on paper?I guess it could be as simple as a plotter using a weak soldering iron ;-)

Titanic: Adventure out of time

Titanic: Adventure out of time is the best computer game I have ever played. It was released in 1996 by cyberflix. The main plot begins on the titanic the night the ship hits the icberg. You have a mission with many sub missions, that inclueds finding many items and doing many other things. You mission all boils down to getting 4 items. Depending on what you get and what you dont, you alter the corse of history. The optimum ending stops WW 1 and 2 and the cold war from happening. Its a truley awesome game Anyway, the reason Im posting this forum is I would like to discuss it with other people. If you have this game or have played it, Post a comment and you will be bombarded with questions from me :-)Thanks!Wikipedia link about this game.

I didn't see a speel on this topic yet so now we have one. I wrote this to a forum for bio-pellet maker's and thought that I would pass it along to you to read. Enjoy. ______________________________________________________ Hello, I am new to the forum and to pellet making altogether really. I am an open researcher of the net at the present time have become interested in many topics I come across. The downfall of the net, for some, is that there so much information, it can boggle the mind. I ran across the videos put out by the web site on YouTube and decided to pose a question to the site administrator. They still have not gotten back to me, but I think from the posts on the forum you are a pretty busy group - he is likely looking into it. The newest thing on the 'Save the World' front is Bio-char. I asked if the pellet machine would be able to convert bio-char into a pellet form. I do know that the bio-char can be hand pressed, or screw extruded into briquettes. This is done in many countries around the world. What I think would work the best is the small pellets that your group are making. I will give a little bit of back ground for my idea. Researchers who have explored the rain forests of the Amazon have come across a soil type which is man-made. They call it 'Terra-Preta' or 'Dark Earth'. I have found out that the soil of the rain forest is not particularly suited to growing vegetation (this surprised me) and the ancient civilizations in the area would treat the soils. These plots of land they are finding today are estimated to be 100's of years old (in terms of last use) and are amazingly fertile as compared to other soils in the immediate area. They only run 4-5 feet in depth and cover the known growing plot area of the period. Today’s natives actually hunt out these plots and sell the fertile soil as an income. The keys to this fertile soil is a high carbon content and pottery chards. Both materials are very porous in nature. What happens is the nutrients that come to the treated soil gets trapped in the pores of the material and are held there, rather than being washed straight through the soil. These nutrients are then extracted from the material be the root systems of the plants as they grow. As the spaces in the material open up again they are refilled with newly arrived nutrients. This material has proven that it can remain in the soil for 100's of years - as is found in the 'Terra-Preta' plots. By the way these plots are not isolated to the Amazon they are found around the World in different areas. The thing is that the way they are made - the technique was lost. These plots around the World are being used up and the farmers are running out of nutrient rich natural (organic) soil. Some feel that the burning of the fields in the way to go as it has been done that way for ages. Well, the soil is dying and it working. The soils are being depleted. Plant matter which is made of carbon, takes its building blocks from the soil and therefore the soil is lacking carbon after centuries of use. But, because we had one lazy, or work saving generation, who knows how long ago, we have lost the technique of how to care for the soils. Tests run in Africa are showing an amazing 500+% increase in crop yields in the first year. They are still using un-organic fertilizers as that is what they thought they needed, but that can change now. Their soil is so bad in some areas that nothing would grow. If any farmer could get a 20% increase in annual yields they would be happy. The reason that the use of chemicals came into large use was because of the depleted soils. If the chemicals did not wash away (trapped in the carbon for future use) there would be less need in the future. Ideally there would be none needed in the future. So what are we doing? At present we grow plant material, burn it, and release the carbon into the atmosphere. I don't go for the global warming thing, but do feel it is not a good thing happening. The dirt on my car every day tells me that things are changing for the worse - I didn't see that as a child. What we can do is grow the plant material, burn a portion of it to covert another portion of the material back into carbon, and put that carbon back into the soil. This cuts emissions to the air (from that aspect of society) to 50% of what it was. Pellets can play a big part in this. My idea was to convert plant matter to char and the char to pellets. The pellets would be good as they are finding in test fields that the microbes in the soils like to grow in the larger pieces. 'It makes the soil happy' - they have a community of their own. You do not want too large of chunks as that makes the soil difficult to work with. Too small of piece (on surface soil) will be blown away on windy days. The windblown soil may not seem like a big thing, but the carbon has the nutrients now remember. Keep all you can on the fields instead of the forest. If you wish to recarbonize the forest soil, spread it through the forest in your spare time. It should be said here that the carbon upon introduction to the soil will deplete the soil of nutrients at first. This is the carbon 'charging' itself. The pores of the carbon are filling and will have the nutrients there; it just looks like the nutrients are gone. This is why it is a good idea to pre-charge the carbon before introduction to the soil. Mix it with compost or manure for a couple of weeks and let the pores fill. The nutrients will then be added to the soil with the carbon. This where the pottery chars they find in 'Terra-Preta' come from. They are the holding vessels from the indoor urinals and toilets - charged and stinky they were broken in the fields. This may not work as far as making pellets from bio-char goes. What about bio-char from pellets. This would be easy to test for you people. You have the machines and the wits to do it. The market is there if you want to sell the end material. Every back-yard composter, in every city will want this stuff. I hope I wasn't too long winded on this. It is an important topic, especially if you are a rural resident. City dwellers with a green thumb can help, but the rural residents hold a majority of the bio-matter. For more information Google 'bio-char' also 'making charcoal from wood' you can get into the worm castings and all that, but once the nutrients are in your soil the rest of the good things will come and live there without help.

Tinkerdays 2012 | DIY | prototyping an arduino wall plotter

Tinkerdays 2012 | a 60 hour prototyping event Already the second day of tinkering and we are starting to make progress on our current project, "the hemiphterograaf". We are creating a wall plotter / printer based on the kritzler schematics. Check http://tinkerdays.wordpress.com to keep yourself updated, join the conversation, tell us what you want us to improve and let us know if you think we should write an extensive tutorial. Today will be exiting. - With the use of thermoplastics (beats lego & meccano for certain applications) we will tinker the pen holder. - install the arduino blue tooth shield - update the testcode to synch the steppermotors - complete the stand on which we will secure the steppermotors (which hold the penholder via thread) - install the stepper motor pulleys (and pray they work, if it does, it deserves its own tutorial, more on this later) current state: we'll continue the day at 24/07/2012 | 12:30 GMT

Can anyone help me identify this plant, please? Answered

Found in my new Community Garden plot, among the weeds that had sprung up over the winter. I was going to pull it, but then it starting looking to me like it might be a desirable garden plant. A few clues:garden is in Seattle, WA; in a Temperate Rainforest climate.raised bed garden, filled with a none-too-rich commercial compost, built on top of native soil composed of equal parts clay & glacial till.this plant or its seed survived an unusually long hard freeze (for this area) this last winter, 12 days of temps ranging from 10-20 F.discoloration on leaves is probably Leaf Miner damage, of which our community gardens have a minor plague.just before deciding that it might not be a weed, I discovered that it has a thick white taproot that extends well below the 4 inches or so that I'd dug out. Thanks for any help you can offer.
