Harry Potter Wands

Does anyone think there could be a way to make a Harry Potter wand, or even a regular wand that shoots glitter? I think it would be really cool to cast a spell on someone, and then they unknowingly get pelted - err, showered with glitter! LOL. But yeah, so if anyone has any ideas or know how or made one before, I would really like to know! Thanks!(:

Virtual potter's wheel controls 3d printer

From UnFold via NOTCOT: For L’Artisan Electronique, Unfold created - aside from the ceramic printer - a virtual pottery wheel in collaboration with Tim Knapen. This pottery wheel gives visitors a chance to ‘turn’ their own forms. At regular intervals, a selection of these designs is printed in clay and exhibited in the space. In L’Artisan Electronique, pottery, one of the oldest artisanal techniques for making utilitarian objects, is combined with new digital techniques. The virtual pottery wheel was realised by means of a 3D-scanner and digital design software. However, the installation still clearly refers to the artisanal process of working in clay. The printing process imitates the traditional technique used by ceramicists, in which the form is built up by stacking coils of clay. It looks fun, and even potentially genuinely artistic, but I would like to see a much higher resolution on the scan, to give a less "digital" look to the final object. Designguide.tv interview from Unfold on Vimeo.

Any Harry Potter fans out there?

OK, good, you know about the whole Harry Potter thing, but do you know about this? Here's the idea. - You put these MP3s onto two CDs and get a copy of The Sorcerer Stone. - Mute your TV. - Put them both in CD and DVD players. - When you're at the DVD menu you hit play on both players at the same time. - Swap CDs for the second half of the movie. - Enjoy the hilarity!OK, I'm guessing on the last one. I haven't tried this and it'll be a while before I have the time to do it. Has anyone else done it or willing to try?

How to make a Harry Potter lighting scar? Answered

A grandson will go as Harry Potter. I would like to make a scar to spirit gum to his forehead. As a kicker I plan to put an smd LED under the appliance. Powered by a flat cell in the hair and fine magnet wire for conductors. So far I was planing to use a glue gun to form the scar on a tin can for simulated forehead curved shape.. Any suggestions on a better material or kit will be greatly appreciated !

Harry Potter flying broom idea. Would it work? Answered

Ok, so in the past few months I've came up with an idea for a maglev-esque flying broom design after re-watching Harry Potter. It would hover over a magnetic track using two electromagnets- one in the handle and one hidden in the broom straw. The power of the magnets could be controlled via a control panel/joystick on the handle of the broom, letting the rider control the height of the broom. I'm not sure how the speed would work, but if I understand magnetic propulsion right, it should move forward by itself. Is there any way i could get it to where the rider could control the speed? And also, I'm assuming this will cost way more than I can afford, so at the moment it is all hypothetical.

should i make an instructable on how to make a electric potters wheel? and possibly a kiln

Should i post an instructable on how to make an electric potters wheel?(and possibly a kiln) I am reluctant because there are no that many artists(that i have noticed)on this site, let alone potters. plus a kiln and potters wheel are EXTREMELY expensive to buy.(i use the schools kiln and pottery wheel, i clean all the wheels and floor and stuff and i recycle the clay i pick up and they let me use the wheel sand kiln with the clay i pick up because i am not enrolled in the ceramics class) the methods that i have in mind will cost possibly less that 150 dollars US. compared to +5 thousand dollars. also, i will be using my phones 1.3 mega pixel camera to be taking the pictures(unless i have enough money to buy a DSLR, i haven't checked my bank account in several months) if you would rather have me wait until i buy a better camera, or if you would rather have me not post please speak up. it will take atleast 10 people in favor for me to do it

Cloak help needed

I want to have a cloak for the new harry potter theme at universal in Orlando. I went to this site " http://www.twinrosesdesigns.com/Cloaks%20for%20Sale.html " and looked at one called "Black Wool Cloak with Celtic Knot Trim" half way down the page, which I think is similar to the "Black 100% Wool Flannel Full Circle Cloak with Silver Knotwork Trim" located above it.While it gives the measurements and some of the materials used, I was wondering if it's possible to make it for $50 or less instead of the $155 dollars they want.

Turntable for pottery wheel? What do you think?

I have been wanting to build my own potters wheel.  It would need to be cheap to build.  Very cheap....  I have looked at kick wheels and Leach wheels.  They will not work in my situation.  They are either too big or too heavy.  I rent my home and these would not be good.  I started looking at banding wheels.  They are small enough that I could use them on a table etc.  I have seen videos of them being successfully used as wheels.  I will definately try the banding wheel, but I am also interested in a potters wheel.  I had an idea tonight, and that was to use a record player/turntable, but I am not sure of the torque or the RPMs.  I am interested in making small pieces. like mugs and small vases, etc.  Please let me know what you think.  Thank you.

Well, I got fired

Well, yesterday i got some bad news from my boss. after missing a shift because of a long Harry Potter movie, I called to tell her what happened and that is when it happened, " Well this is the last time this will happen because I'm afraid that Steve (owner of the store) has told me to let you go". She then hung up quickly. So I ran down the the store and called Steve, He said that he had NOT SPOKEN TO MY BOSS FOR A WEEK! Displeased with her lie i asked him to talk to her. She managed to make me sound like a useless pay-robbing dick, so he fired me for real this time. although he said that i could use him as a reference, i still had to leave what I actually loved doing. Now, i sit here Unemployed because of a really bad, little kids Harry potter movie. Does anyone know how to handle this?

Reducing current to drill

Hey everyone. I'm building a potters wheel for my girlfriend for Christmas, and for the motor I'm using a corded drill. I want to use something like a sewing pedal to control the speed, rather than the trigger of the drill. I've looked it up (on here) and it sounds easy enough, but the problem is that most corded drills are 4 amps and over, and the highest amperage I've found on a sewing pedal is 1.5A, I'm assuming this would blow up the pedal. Is there some way I could use a resistor to reduce the current drawn by the drill? Would the drill still operate on 1/3 the current? It won't need even close to full power. Where would this resistor go? Thanks in advance.

I need help!! Trying to draw a clockwork powered Golden Snitch!!

Ok, here's what I'm trying to accomplish. I want to draw a line drawing sketch of a Golden Snitch from Harry Potter with the clockwork mechanisms superimposed inside the sphere. The Snitch itself is easy enough to draw (a circle with a pair of delicate wings) but the clockwork mechanisms to power the thing are tough to do. The end result should, hopefully, look like an old "da Vinci-esque" drawing that was found in an old book. The aging of the paper is easy enough to figure out. So this is my question. Does anyone know where I can find a line drawing of a windup mechanism that I could easily draw in a scaled down version to fit within the walnut-sized Snitch body?

I have this thing? Answered

I have this thing. I got it from a bag of  obsolete parts where my dad works. It's a component, with a black plastic body. It's about 24 mm wide and 19 mm long. It has five leads, two coming out of the right and three coming out of the  left. The text on it is as follows: AMF POTTER & BRUMFIELD 109P471 JRE-4011 MADE IN U.S.A.               (Out here it has a symbol like "SA" inside the letter C) 02-07-75 The last one is obviously a date, it was made in the seventies. AMF used to make all kinds of things in the 60's and 70's apparently, so this must just be one of their products. My dad and I think it's a relay, but I've Googled it to no avail. Are there any old-time electronics nuts who can help me out here? Thanks a lot.
