3d printer?

Two ideas wondering what people think.... 1. Have the up/down bed for a 3d printer go up and down with water... Just have a little valve that lets water out and the printing bed would slowly lower. At whatever speed you wanted. Could work the other way and fill up. 2. Have the extruded plastic print into water... it would cool instantly and might help with resolution? Just an idea.

What if you put a laser cutter on low power and used it like a printer? What if you made an insert for inkjets to accept a low power laser? No more ink - ever! just paper or anything else you wanted.

Latte Printer

Computer based automation projects really interest me. DIY laser cutters, circuit board routers, plotters and now finally for those baristas that want to take it to the next level there is a Latte Printer. Here's some sweet photo's of this latte maker in action at SIGGRAPH 2008.Along the same lines of Coffee and Technology. Here's someone who used a high powered laser to heat his Nescafe. This teapot is very famous. It's called the Utah Teapot and it is often used as a "hello world" project for imaging programs.-bgvia neatorama

Printer Problems

I would like to know if someone would be so kind and help me out with this? I just bought a brand new HP OfficeJet 3830 all in one printer and have a problem with what HP is telling me how many sheets it would print. They say that it would print over 100 sheets on average (give or take) on one cartridge of ink but I got at tops 30 +/- and it was brand new everything. I don't do much printing at all and when I do its not pictures or anything like that that would use up a lot of ink so the first set should have lasted a very long time the way I print things. I would like to know if anyone out there wouldn't mind drawing up some kind of explanation on how to build a page counter and how to hook it up to it? I don't know how to code yet because I am just beginning to learn all that and I have a very long way to go with that so it can't involve coding. Any help from anyone out there would be of GREAT GREAT help to me and it would be very much appreciated. Thanks again.DD

Gigantic 3D printer

This 3D printer is a giant step up from other 3D printers. Where most 3D printers make items that you can hold in your hands,  this machine by Enrico Dini in Italy is making items you can walk inside. It lays them up tiny layer by tiny layer and the result is pretty sturdy. One day it might even be used on site to make intricate buildings. Link via Make

Inkjet printer question

I need help, making an ink jet printer think that there is paper in the loader when there is not, there is a small switch with a leaver which tells the printer that paper is going through the roller but if it is taped down then the rollers go for a while and then the printer realities that there is no paper, is there an easy way to fix this? Also on my ink cartridges there are 7 pins, does any one know what these do? I'm trying to build a laser cutter out of this printer where the laser is controlled by when the black ink would be spraying. Thanks in advance.

Lego Printer == Awesome

The last Lego forum thread I started went down a storm so when I saw this Lego printer online at BoingBoing today I HAD to post it too. YouTube user Horseattack posted this video a few days ago of a printer that he made using Lego to move a felt tip pen across the page. He doesn't give much detail about how it was made or any instructions on how to do it, but the video is pure awesome. Here's what he had to say about it in the video description: "Lego felt tip 110" printer connected to an Apple Mac. This is not a kit you can buy and does not use mindstorms. I designed/built/coded it all from scratch including analog motor electronics, sensors and printer driver, the USB interface uses a "wiring" board.

3d printer service

HI everyone. I am wanting to start a 3d printing service business. This would be on a small scale to start. My question is how to securely download 3d files from customers so that I can use those files to create a 3d printed object for them, then ship objects back. I thought about offering the service on craigslist and receive the customer's file through email. But I know that a website would be better, but have no idea as how to implement the capability to receive customers' files securely and while keeping those files organized. Items will be printed using a makerbot, so I would communicate to potential customers as to the limitations of said printer. Thanks, and would appreciate any answers or advice.

But I can unsolder it from there to have a 3 pins led.(I'm sorry I'm not good at this ^^" trying to learn)

Morning all from the shire or Oxford UK My names is Rory, happy to be a member of the site and always enjoy a good discussion Thought it would be helpful for myself and others to start a bit of a debate about 3D printers in general. I build my own 3D printer last year and was happy with it the 6x6x6 results were not the best but better than anything I had produced before, I regreted ever selling it TBH but now the time has come for me to think about getting another. Ideally looking to have a scanning unit too but it is wether to build or buy.......TOO MUCH CHOICE!! Since last year ive seen a massive jump in the tech used in this area and my main questions are: What do each of you use and why that specific printer? Whats your best results ( best object made ) which to people perfer shop brought (ready made) or home made (DIY KIT) If you could choose any 3D printer what would it be? Cheers all, Look forwards to seeing how this thread discusses this topic

Project: bead printer

Hey everyone! My name is Michael and I have a project I'm working on: a fuse beads automatic "printer". After I got my mechanical eng. degree I was looking for a project to prove to myself it was worth it. I guess being a maker was my secret ambition, and I felt I needed some project to be proud of.  While babysitting my little cousins and doing some works with Perler beads, I thought to myself: hey! this is cool- I should try making something bigger! and so, as my works grew larger, I began to wonder- can I make it automatic?   What are fuse beads?  These are small beads made from plastic that come in various colors, and can melt under a regular home iron. Its a kids toy- you place a pattern on a mat, iron it- and get cool results. google it!   What is it supposed to do?  The idea is simple: place individual beads of various colors on a mat full of small spikes according to a pattern. sounds simple, doesn't it? I think its good to first look at a 2 color (black-white) simple scheme and try to print it on a small part of the board. Once the mechanical part is finished, the real programming will start.   Some numbers:  The beads are about 5[mm] in diameter and in height. A typical board is 30X30 spikes. A piece could usually contains 2-10 main colors.   !!STOP!!! Before you read my concept, I would like to know- how would you try to make this project? I have had this idea in my mind for over a year now, and I'm looking for new ideas.   The concept so far: As I've mentioned, its been a long journey already. I am far from having a working prototype and am open to suggestions. The "printer" I designed is similar to a CNC machine: a tube has 15 beads in it. The tube is moved above the board, placing the beads. Refill will be done manually since I wish to prove the mechanics first. I made the printer with Lego and an NXT controller and engines, simply because I had it at home. I tried making a 2 axis motion using a rack and gear (with transmission), moving a tube with beads in it. To my dread, the beads do not like falling off when placed on top of one another (in the tube), so I used a third engine, converting the rotary motion into linear one, applying a small force over the tube to prevent the beads from falling, moving them to the next position, than letting go. I discovered the engines are not as accurate as I would have wanted, and the results are meh. I will add some pictures at a later time as I need to re-assemble it.     Thanks a lot for reading, and I hope we can make this dream come true- lets have some fun!

Booklet printing & the printer

Hi, I want to print a 200 pg book I have in booklet form. What I mean is that on each A4 sheet, there should be 4 pages printed front and back. I should be able to fold the sheets in half afterwards and get a book that is half the size of the A4 sheet. I have tried to do this with the printer settings but when I came out, it wasn't in correct order. Also one side of the sheet is in one direction and the other side is in another so it looks like half the sheet was printed upside down. Before I waste more paper, what may be the problem? The only thing I may have done wrong is to specify "long edge" instead of "short edge" for two sided printing. This was done on a HP 8100 laser printer. Thanks

Is it possible to make a shoe printer out of an old desktop printer?

Hi everyone, I am just a marine engineering student and I always used to visit this page before and I really learned a lot from this page I really love it. It sound wierd but I got 999 "what if's" In my mind and one of them is what if I could make my own device that could paint my sneakers In any design I want? So now I'm planning to make a shoe printer out of my old desktop printer, Is it possible? The motors and some parts might be helpful and those are needed some time and a little bit of coding. And I want it to work like a cnc plotter. But the hardest part for me is the "Inking part" A.) "How does a printer manipulate colors?" . Let's say I want to print an apple with a white background on my shoe , how does a printer selects/mix a color for each coordination they paint? ( base, outline, background and etc. ) I mean, how do they do that? what device does this part for the printer? So that I could add it on the list. B.) "What process should I use? " . Is it heating? Should I use lazer? Or should I use a tiny nozzle? Or a multiple of nozzles? Or is it piezo electric pulses? What piece should it be? that would perfectly Suitable for printing on a sneakers? (Canvas) Additional question : (if ever) what type of ink should I use ? Any answer or suggestions would be so much appreciated

Tiny portable printer - Will pay

Hello everyone. I need someone to come up with the plans or the finished product of a really small portable printer around the size of a Galaxy SII (or iPhone) but twice the height (thickness) at most. It must be able to print on a strip of paper about 2-6cm wide. It must be able to print a dot-matrix like text. The size of the text must be somewhat adjustable. It must print ASCII characters and maybe some symbols. The line of text to be printed will look like this: ID0001||25AUG{}12:55 No need for paper feeding or anything. It should operate like: place the paper in the tray, press a button/buttons, remove the paper. The ink should last for at least ten prints before replacing and the device must have a rechargeable battery. I would prefer if you make an instructable out of it as well but it is not mandatory. If you can deliver kindly send me a private message here with your offer.

Help- My Printer is BLIND!

So here is the story- my grandma moved out of our house, and I got an older Windows 2000 computer. I also got a working (at the time) printer (jetprinter...HP...I think) and hooked it up in my room about a month later. The ink was low, so we spent ~30 dollars on new cartriges. So, even then, I hooked it up... hit print, and buzz click whirr...just like it should...and bloop: load paper is displayed on the screen. But had paper..a bunch! So I took it out, restartyed the computer, turned off (and then on) the printer seperately, and tried to print agian. No worky. Supposedly the printer is still out of paper, even though it is sitting right there! Is it blind?!?!?!Any help would be appreciated. It is a good printer (or was), and the ink in it alone is new and worth $30!
