I have noticed that on Instructables, I seldom see anything relating to computer programming. I'd like to change that. I would strongly reccomend adding a tab labled: Programing under the Tech section of instructables. To clarify this, I am referring to the sections under Tech. e.g. CNC and Microsoft. Thank you.

Hi guys! Well, I usually program using Microsoft's visual studio suite; however, I'm getting tired of my programs requiring the .net framework to run. Basically, I was wondering what compilers programmers use to write their programs. I really don't care what the language is, I have a fairly broad knowledge of programming languages, and I could always pick up another if need be. Anyway, could anyone point me out a few names of compilers? I would be very grateful. (Particularly if they were free) Thanks!

Hi all. i know a bit of c++. And I want to make a simple program that calculates Pi. Now, I want it to have the user input the number of decimal point thingies... and let it do the rest. BUT, it must be stoppable no matter how HUGE a number the put in... and im 12, so please try to make it as easy as possible. THANKS!

Out of the many samples I recieved last week, the freescale MC908JL8MPE is one of the few that I like the look of. Its a beefy PDIP with 28 pins, unlike the many TQFNs I've recieved I could actually solder this (well no need as it fits in a breadboard). But my problem is, there doesn't seem to be many easy-to-follow tutorials for programming these microcontrollers. The only simple solution seems to be to buy £100 programmers.. which I'm not too keen on. Is there a simple way to program them via parallel/serial or maybe using my usbtiny to program an atmel chip to program the freescale chip? Thanks.

I had winzip something and it was lame, I don't want to buy it and it has a bunch of buttons and stuff. Is there an unzip program that lets me just select multiple zip folders and drop them all into a folder, with an easy left click, like notepad ++ which has an edit option on all the file sub menus. I remember back in the day with XP, i believe it had a really good unzip thing.

Hi everyone I have got a MICROCHIP - PIC16F616 to play with, I am going to write a little program and load on it. http://onecall.farnell.com/microchip/pic16f616-i-p/8bit-flash-mcu-smd-16f616-dip14/dp/1332199?Ntt=1332199 However, I have a few questions before I do this. 1. How do I know whether language I should write? like C or Assembly? does it tell you in the datasheet (link above), because I don't seem to find it. 2. What kind of program do I need for loading the program into the chip? is it also an information I can find in the datasheet? or it is really some common sense between programmer. My supervisor doesn't offer much help... Extra question Here is the link of open programming, I am just curcious that if I build this programmer (I have one for my chip, but just wanna learn something), does it mean that I can use this to connect my microcontroller and my computer, so to load the program into the microcontroller? http://openprog.altervista.org/OP_eng.html Many thanks

I've been looking for a good program for making videos, and was wondering what other people have used. I tried the trial version of Vegas, but can't buy it because of the price. Anything over $100 is too much, ~$50 is better. Ulead has been suggested to me. It has to handle mpeg-2 video from a Sony Handycam, too.

I have had enough of making flowcharts from scratch and despite there being thousands of programs available, I have yet to find one with the following abilities. -Make chart automatically, size/formatting based on number of connections -Take inputs from a list, for example I put in all the words, then I can add tags to three categories, incoming, outgoing, and bi-directional connections which link similar parts. My current example is a list of 60 words which have various relationships. They range from bonds (ionic, covalent polar, hydrogen...) to carbohydrates. It would be great to just put in the list and tag the words that are related, so when I put in bonds, I could tag the different types. If I put in carbohydrates I could tag organic compounds. Then it could be put into a visual flow chart. If someone gives me the answer google it I would be quite frustrated, I have been through many pages of results to no avail and I have tried many "automatic" flowchart programs. I know making a program to analyze connections wouldn't be too hard, put I have no idea how to make a program with customized graphics, let alone an automatic one. So making one isn't quite going to work.

First of all, I am new to this. But for my CEIS course project I decided to program an rc vehicle because I thought it would be COOL! Now I am knee deep into the project and I am needing guidance. So I am going to attempt to stack raspberry pi hats. One adafruit pwm for servos and the other adafruit pwm for dc and stepper motors. The first thing I done wrong was solder the gpio headers on backwards. Since I'm not too professional with a soldering iron I ended up making the drives of no use and ordered more. Before I done that, I got my pi camera working! Still need to program the pan/tilt servos. I have battery power, wiring, almost everything as far as hardware. Just not sure if I am headed in the right direction. I tried different things with python and the i2c but now when I start up the Kernel Module fails. Any help will be great!

I'm sure this isn't hard for ya all tech folk, and I'm hoping someone could point me to instructables that I could combine to make this....Any help would be appreciated when as clueless as I am, I'm not even sure the words to use to search. I would like a light box indicator with say 12 selections (colored led lights) to be able to randomize, but then to also have parameters of length for each different light. So that some might have a range of 30-90 seconds and others length of 2-10 minutes before the next random selection. Thank you.

Hi. I've got queries about integration of program. I had done some simple program to test/check various modules (LEDs, push button, switch and etc.) functionality. However, i wanna type a program that if i press keypad '1', it will run the LEDs program to check to LEDs. If i press keypad '2', it will run the push button program to check the push button functionality. And so on for other programs. Anyone out there can help me? If possible type it out for me because i'm really not an Arduino expert. I will upload those simple programs to test/check the modules. So please help me out. Thanks alot !

I would like to create a variable that is between two preset numbers but they are randomly created that runs in a batch program. For example if I wanted to create a program that would act like a dice where there is a 1/6 chance (for a 6 sided dice) of the dice landing on any number between 1 and 6.
