I just recently joined Instructables, and I'm looking for cheap (not necessarily simple) projects that involve mechanics or making anything out of easily found materials. Something like LostRite's hidden blade or this Mechanical Hand. I'm in high school and don't yet have a job, so many of the projects i find are out of my budget. Thanks for any of your suggestions!

I am looking to do a fairly simple children's gardening project at a Green Fair that is being held in March. In the past, the group has had the kids transplant seedlings. Does anyone have any ideas? I think that there must be much better "quick" projects.

A friend of mine is in the metals class at my school and he asked me for some ideas (since they can make whatever the want on this last project) on what his final project should be. He's thinking something like a trebuchet or something else that launches projectiles and causes pain (or just fun). It would be awesome if some of you had any ideas or instructables for his project. If you do, please tell me!

It sure would be nice to have a summary form for each project on the first page detailing the category, a description of the project, a difficulty level rating, estimated cost, estimated time, etc. There's tons of cool projects on here but if they're too difficult or too complicated I don't want to spend the time to discover that on my own. Would be nice to know right from the get go. Also, it would be useful for searching to find easier and/or less expensive projects if desired. Additionally, users who complete the project could also put feedback in some type of survey to capture costs, time spent, difficulty, etc. Doing this would add a great deal of consistency to the instructable projects and I think would add a lot of value to this site! Peace, ~Will

Has anyone ever gotten outside funding for a project you were building? I have an idea for a device to make our local greenway trail safer but my investment in it would be at least a couple hundred dollars. I'm looking for ideas to gather outside funding for the project because it will benefit everyone who uses those trails. Because i am an individual and not an organization, my chances of getting grant money (even a mere $200) are slim.

What is one to do if they start a collaboration and someone else steals it out from under them and publishes it as their own Instructable? The Colaboration system is too flawed and I will never consider working on projects publicly again. They should be hidden from view of all but members of the collaboration itself. I had a project titled USB UPS and opened it for collaboration. A user (neelandan) saw it, copied the idea, threw together amateurish circuits and published the parts to it as his own. I had planned on publishing a very professional step-by-step for a usable project. Now the idea is moot since it's already been published.

Hi, I just want to inform you about a new project, which bring a tiny microcontroller board for your home automatication, to you. It is called "USBeDuino". What is USBeDuino? basically it is a microcontroller board with 3 shields, which, when combined make a very great platform for home automatication. Features: Processor: Attiny85 2 x 3A PWM Output sink channel 3 x Analog input channel 1 onboard poti 2 onboard Buttons Input Voltage 5-24V Small size The idea behind the board: Sometimes you need only projects with very less pins, such as light controlling or pump controll (in the garden). Then you dont want to use a full arduino, with a power or a relay shield... then you can use the USbeDuino! https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/usbeduino-project-all-or-nothing#home Please tell me, what do you think about this project? Does it have potential?

Today's feature is the Neighbors Project. How well do you know your neighbors, and your neighborhood? The Neighbors Project covers some easy ways to get acquainted. Start with the basics, like How to say Hi to a stranger on the street and How to make sure your neighbors get their mail if it ends up in your box, then move on to more complicated projects like How to get a tree planted on your block and How to increase produce in your local corner store. Your neighborhood is what you make it, so choose to make your community a better place! The Neighbors Project can help. Check them out, and get inspired. So, what are you doing in your neighborhood? How would you like to help out? This post has been sponsored by Pepsi. The Pepsi Refresh Project celebrates the people, businesses, and non-profits with ideas that will have a positive effect on our world.

I notice that you are presenting more projects in French and Spanish. I think this is a very good objective. But, I am a uni-lingual person (English). I have tried to get Google to translate these projects, which can be a hassle, but all the images and their references are lost. Is there a simple way to get the PDF translated (or have access to an English version) I'm not suggesting that the original version be dropped, as translations can have errors! but can an English version be available or a procedure that I could do to get it translated with the image and graphic content intact?

Hi! Im gonna try out this project, Telescope , as I know nothing about optic or lens function maybe someone could just let me know if I should go for a Tele-Auto 6.3/400 mm or a Sigma 70-300 mm F4-5,6 DL Macro Super. I asked the creator but as time runs out for me I hope this gives a faster response =) Thanks

I hope I'm not stepping on anyones toes here. I just posted a new topic in Aquarium Projects. It involves using a microcontroller (starting with Parallax BS2 and eventually switching to AVR) to automate some of the tank maintains. Please delete this if it is some sort of violation to refer to a topic in another forum. Otherwise, it is at:https://www.instructables.com/forum/T519BYHFAQEDBX1/I would really appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks!

Does anyone have a Drawer Project? I have a space under the kitchen sink. The dimension is 15cm x 51cm x 52 cm. This space should be used for a dishwasher. I have seen some drawer projects using wood glue, but I would like to use screws instead of glue. This drawer will be used for cutlery, so it is good to have some divisions for fork, spoon, big knifes etc. As the whole kithcne furniture is white, the drawer shall be white for sure. I would like some tips such as track instalation, handle installation, bottom installation, finishing etc I intend to use my new Dremel to make it. Thank you!

Alright, well the mountain pine beetle is really eating up a ton of forests, and it's releasing a LOT of Co2 into the air. So I decided, since new trees would just get destroyed by the pine beetle again, why not find a crop (Preferably edible, inedible is just as good) that absorbs the most Co2 in the world (Next to trees). Basically, I'm looking to offset the Co2 that's being released in the forest by growing another crop. Once all the forests are destroyed, the pinebeetle population will die down, and we can replant the forests. Any suggestions?

I've seen many high altitude balloon projects and many rocketry projects on the web. These seem to be pretty established hobbies. The I got to wondering if anyone out there had ever heard of any amateur rockoon projects? If you haven't heard of a rockoon, it is a combination of the word "rocket" and "balloon". The concept is that a balloon is used to tow a rocket to a high altitude and then lauched. When I've searched around, most of the references I find are to the use of rockoons by Van Allen (of radiation belt fame)in the course of his research back in the 1950's. The only thing close to anything like an amateur attempt that I found on the web was by a group called JP Aerospace back in the 90's. I'm not necessarily contemplating any such project myself, I just find it a fascinating possiblity. And like the many amateur high altitude balloon lauches and high power rocketry, it is amazing what people put together. I wonder if it would be feasible for a high altitude balloon plus high powered model rocket to ever technically reach the internationally recognized altitude of ~100km considered "outer space". I know that both high altitude balloons and high powered rocketry have their own FAA (or equivalent agency) approval hoops to jump through. Perhaps they just wouldn't allow it, or it would be so much red tape that no one attempts it. Even a low altitude rockoon, of a small ~3ft diameter weather balloon towing a standard model rocket would be an interesting project, for the technical challenge of pulling it off successfully. Anyway, if anyone has ever heard of amateur rockoon attempts or your own musings on the topic, I'd be interested in hearing about it!
