Lighthouse pulsing light

Hi all - I am building a wooden model lighthouse, it will stand 5 feet tall and become my driveway landmark. I have been searching for a good light circuit, a non-LED version, preferably using 120v AC. I would like the light to just do a slow flash or pulse and haven't found a circuit anywhere. I did find one SCR simple circuit using a high rated capacitor, but I am looking for more options. I have a coloured halogen which should do the job well enough. So have any of you brainiacs come across any circuits close to this description - thank you for reading / responding. Bill

ESP32 and Pulse Counter

Hi.I can't find a small simple code to know if I receive pulses of a signal from an ESP32 pin.The pulses are about 100ns in amplitude and can be of variable frequency between 100 and 6000Hz.I just know if that pin is receiving pulses, I don't need to count them or anything else.Can you help me, please.Greetings

Pulse Generator, part suggestions?

Hey, I want to make an external pulse generator, mainly so I can power a simple coilgun. I know I have to have a bunch of capacitors hooked up in parallel, but what value would be ideal? And what kind of transformer do I need? Say I use a 9v battery, how would I calculate the ouptut voltage? I know trial and error would work best for me, but I don't have any transformers lying around so I need advice on which one to get. Thanks.

Hello everyone iam a Msc student now, i have done many projects over pulsejet engines which you could see in my instructables list. Now i have decided to do a project over pulse detonation engines, before beginning with the real one i thought that making a fluent simulation will be better. I have several tries to create the detonation front and atlast i succeeded in creating one. solar pulse motor help! Answered

Ok so I have two questions. First I have a very week solar panel like it can't even power a motor I can power with a AA. I would like to know how to test how much voltage it can produce. Second I'm wondering if I could use this week solar panel to charge some little capacitors which would charge up and then discharge with enough voltage to power my motor. Rapid Pulse LED Program

Hi there! I have successfully been making some LED hula-hoops but my ultimate challenge lies before me: I want to program colour-changing LEDs so that they pulse ultra-fast and appear 'white' when at standstill but leave rainbow trails when they move. I believe it to be an optical illusion caused by the pulsing... I assume this requires a PIC program but I have no idea where to start or even if I am on the right track - does anyone out there know how I might achieve this? thanking you in advance, Amelia

Turn dial to generate pulses

Here is my proposal. I'm building a pan/tilt unit. I plan to have a 200 step motor attached to a 20:1 worm gear, (the latter is needed so it will 'lock' in place, and not be solely reliant on the motor's holding torque.. So in order for the output shaft to turn 180 degrees needs the worm gear to turn 10 times. In turn the motor must do 10 revs, which would need 2000 pulse steps. It's the pulse generation that's proving difficult. Whilst a 555 timer could generate pulses, I want it to be 'mechanical' For example, if I turn the knob 90 degrees, I want to create 1000 pulses, (45 degrees creates 500 pulses) and so on, so the knob matches the physical position of the camera. If I turn the knob 180 degrees in 1 second ... the motor will turn 180 degrees in 1 sec. If I turn the knob slowly, pulses will be generated slowly, and the camera/motor will turn slowly. My idea at present is some sort of optical encoder ... but that would need 4000 divisions on the wheel!! Or - a 1024ppr wheel with a 1:4 step up gearing ... but such encoders are several hunderd Pounds!! And I would need two of them!! I have software that will allow me to print an encoder wheel, but resolution will have to be 'course' since it will use an LED / transistor, so I suspect around 64 divs. I purchased a RC servo, wondering if I could remove the motor, and turn the output shaft by hand. Couldn't be done. I've also considered 'planatary gears' in reverse to 'step up' the revs ... but I cannot locate any 'hobbyist' versions other than the Tamayia type. Also briefly looked at RC servos, but having done the maths, it would be impractical to get the output to move (say) 0.1 degrees as the motor would only move about 1/4 of a rev and have no torque!! (One option may be to make it continuos rev, and place a feedback pot externally.but again, moving 0.1 degree around a pot would create minimal feedback) Incidentally, 0.1 degrees is the stepper resolution 180 degrees / 2000 steps Anyone any ideas? Bearing in mind that the speed of the pulse train is dependant on how fast the control (pot) is turned, and also matches physical camera position. Encoders are preferred option as it's then possible to electronically guage which way the motor is turning. If electronic, here is (sort of) what the circuit would need to compute. (Sample and hold?) Moved from 0 to 45 degrees in one second. That degree of movement needs 500 pulses, thus need to generate a pulse width to get 500 pulses in 1 second timescale. ** This is just to give an example. The actual sampling rate would be much faster. If it was a 'slow' 1/10th second, in the above example it would check every 4.5 degrees, and generate 50 pulses in that time scale.

So i had to replace the chargercable on our babycall and used a female usb port. The adapter uses 6 volts to charge the device but if i wanted to use a 5v portable charger, how can i make the current flow instead of pulsating? Capacitor? And what value?

Rotary potentiometer to pulse output.

Hello everyone, I'm having a challenge!I'm working on a code for my Arduino UNO.In this project, I will be using a rotary potentiometer to emit a keyboard signal for a simulation. when the potentiometer is being rotated I want to change the speed in the simulation, this normally works with a single keypress. So when it is rotated, the output I want is only ONE press when rotated a certain value. Waveform of pulsed magnetic fields... Answered

I have recently been astoundingly interested in magnetic fields, for seemingly no reason. The point is, that in reading up on it, and being a big fan of the greatest mind of all time, Nikola Tesla, I have been stumped with a question that I can't quite seem to answer, and can barely wrap my head around. My question is this; when one takes a normal electromagnet and sends pulses through it, is the resulting pulsing field considered to be longitudinal or transverse waves, or something else all together? This has baffled me, and I am curious to see the answer. Another question I have is, what exactly does Tesla mean by "hertzian" waves, I'm assuming that that his "non-hertzian" waves are longitudinal waves, but I could be wrong. A little background on the question... This question arose when I was looking at the 'ible "spooky tesla spirit radio"  (something along those lines, I'm not sure the exact name). I read somewhere in the comments section that Tesla found Hertzian waves to be, for lack of a better term, a waste of time. This brought the question of different waves up, and one thing led to another and here we are!! Thanks for any and all answers!!

Need a clock pulse switch circuit!

I cannot not for the life of me figure out how to make this circuit.  The circuit needs to do this: I push a button that sends a single signal to the circuit.  With each push of the button the circuit activates a seperate relay in sequence.  I need 6 relays to activate with 6 button pushes in sequence.  I know this is a very simple circuit to design.  I just can't figure it out nor find out how to make it. I'm not sure what the voltage of the relays coil should be.  My goal is to make bottle rockets launch off of my RC helicopter.  I'm going to use a 9vdc power source, a couple capacitors and some nichrome wire.  The relays are there so that each rocket launches seperately.  Hense the need for the circuit.   So with each push of the button on the transmitter...a seperate rocket is fired.  Thanks for any help ya'll.

Changing DC Circuit to Pulsed DC

I am interested in changing my fixed current DC circuit to pulsed to increase the brightness of my LEDs. I really have no direction when it comes to making this pulsed circuit. I have looked into precision full wave rectifiers that I think are what I would be looking for. I am not sure what type of pulse width I would want. The one that I think would be ideal would be a Mouser DF01M, I am not sure if a pulse width of 200 microseconds is fast enough.

555 1 Hz pulse generator? Answered

Hi,I have a simple buzzer which I want to convert to an oscillating buzzer so as to obtain the sound similar to that of an automobile's reverse indicator.I've posted a schematic(borrowed from below.I intent to replace the LED with my buzzer and omit the resistor.I hope by building this circuit,to make my buzzer 'buzz'(or make noise) at an interval of 1 second(since its a 1 Hz pulse generator).Would the results be similar to my needs?

how to convert negative pulse to positive

Hello.. I built a transistor scr to turn on leds in my car from my remote.. my remote uses negative pulses to turn on and off... now the problem is that the scr needs a positive pulse to turn on but it uses negative to turn off,, so turning it off isn't a problem.. Im pretty sure I can just use a transistor to do this.. here is the schematic I used to build the scr...  ... fig 75b... is there a way to modify this circuit to make the turn-on negative or just a way to use another transistor to make my negative pulse positive? I could easily use an automotive relay to do this but im trying to make this as small as possible and its still on the breadboard.. I want to get this figured out before I put it on pcb.. thanks for your help

Arduino crash sensor single pulse?

I'm trying to get a crash sensor to output a single 800ms pulse when depressed and held down until it is released and repeat when depressed again, I have had this working before but cant seem to achieve it again. It either continually loops while depressed or wont output at all until it's released. Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Arduino Reptile Pulse Proportional Thermsotat

Hi, I have kept many reptiles in the past and use this type of thermostat control with any of my non-light emitting heat sources such as ceramics, heat mats etc but these thermostats are pricey for every setup. An idea I had was to maybe incorporate an Arduino since I have one lying round to be able to control multiple input/outputs for more than one tank, but i do not know how to go about building one and what pulse proportional means. I have used Arduino before and familiar with C programming but not done much with controlling AC electrics other than either on/off using relays (ideal for simple thermostats tho like MatStats from livingearth). So would it be as easy as to find a PWM AC controller and make the Arduino change the duty cycle depending on how close the temperature actually is compared to the set point? Or would I need to use PID control? Any ideas would be great.

Powerful Pulse laser using capacitors.

Ok, i'm relatively new to electronics, but i've made a few projects and would like to try something more challenging. i've seen KipKays tutorials for making burning lasers and it got me thinking: instead of using a laser that's constantly on, why not charge up a medium bank of capacitors and use them to fire the laser for a micro second. surely this would mean that more power could be outputted while still powering it from a battery. there's probably something i don't undertand that would made this impractical, but i won't know until i ask. thanks in advance.

Heartbeat Pulse+Speaker+555 timer

Hello all! I'm posting this idea that I have for making my wife a gift for our anniversary. I'm posting this in burning questions as my research time for this is rather limited as the whole project is to be a surprise. Here's what I aim to build... What I want to make is rather simple, I want to make a pulsating heartbeat sound through either a piezo speaker or just a small 2 inch or smaller speaker. The more compact the better as I plan to integrate this into the other half of my project. The problem is im not very familiar with the 555 timer, I normally don't use them in my projects as I try to work with AC most of the time. But that's another topic. So anyways, my idea is to set the duty cycle low so it's 3 quick pulses and then about a second of silence. I imagine programming in Arduino would be easier but therein lies the problem: I do not know how to program and every Arduino I have is fried. (I make good use out of my components!) This is when I turn to the community and sincerely ask for your help in making this possible. Someone who is more familiar and can quickly and conveniently answer this is obviously more then welcome! This is where I plan on getting most of my research done in my off time. Any help is greatly appreciated. If further explanation is needed please do not hesitate to ask. :-)

Arduino Pulse Sensor (Best Type of Arduino to Use?)

I am making a pulse sensor using an arduino, and I was wondering what type of arduino would be the best for this project. Need help with pulse width modulation for motor for aiming laser pointer

I'm trying to build a model with a small remote control laser pointer aiming system. I'm not exactly a mechanical genius and, I don't want to spend over $100, or much over $30 if I can help it. I figured I could set up a simple pulley system with some cord running from the laser pointer to two small electric motors, one for right and left and another for up and down. I don't need the laser pointer to swivel 360 degrees, just about 90 vertically and horizontally would work fine. If I were to attach a few monetary switches, I would be able to run the motors one way or the other, and get the laser pointer to point wherever I want. The main problem I am having is that every electric motor I find has a RPM in the thousands. Such speed would jolt the laser to one side or the other without any means of fine adjustments in aiming. I've looked around and it seems to be the general idea that either a PWM (pulse width modulation) controller or gear box are the best options to get lower RPM out of a motor. I don't have much room to work with where I want to mount the laser pointer, so I decided to go with a PWM controller and spread the components around the model to save space. I've been doing my best to construct this.... ... but my knowledge of circuitry is rather limited, having only take a college course on basic circuitry, I'm in a little over my head. Could someone please identify the component labeled "PULSE WIDTH ADJ" (center bottom, between the two diodes) is it two 250K resistors in series with the lead to the left acting as a resistive load or something else? Also, what is the component labeled "IRFD024" (far right below the motor) I would be very appreciative for any information that would aid me in getting a PWM controller to slow a motor down to around 50 RPM. If some one has a better idea all together, I would be willing to scrap the motors for another project and start from scratch.

How can I make my car light show light up at lower volumes?

Please help me out if you have some basic knowledge of electronics! I am trying to make an array of LEDs pulse to the music of my car stereo. I am basically just running the car's battery power and the preamps on the back of the stereo out to some transistors. The only problem is that you have to turn the stereo up really loud for the lights to pulse like they should (to the point that the audio distorts and stuff). I'm pretty sure that at maximum volume the preamps give off 2 volts. There are only 2 solutions I can think of to fix this problem: 1. Buy more sensitive transistors, like ones that will let current through at say, 1 volt or 1/2 volt. 2. Amplify the signal coming from the preamps. I don't know what transistors to buy or how to amplify the signal, so if someone could tell me how to do that that would be great. Also, if you have a better suggestion lay it on me! And one more bonus question- if I ever wanted the lights to pulse in stereo, where could I put diodes to make that happen? Thanks!

Oops! I think I broke Instructables!

Oops - I slightly broke the website. Just a little bit.The thread "...bigger than its belly can" has too many full stops in the title, which confuses computers, apparently.Anyhoo...I was just pointing out that, of all the engines you'd expect to see here, nobody has made a pulse jet engine. Yes, I made a jam jar version, but nobody has made a real one.I don't know why, they're very easy (basically a big pipe with a fuel supply and no consideration for the neighbours).Maybe you'd just like to buy one off ebay, or maybe you'd like to look at the pictures of the jet mounted on a scooter, imagine what the ride would be like, and tremble slightly in anticipatory panic...I got a message from the seller:I have a video of it doing approx 70mph down Croft start/finish straight,the moped has now gone as the plastic wheels did not last long !!.

I have five existing wall lights that are hard wired to a single switch, running on 230v a/c It's impossible to run alternate wiring as it's all embedded in the walls (which are three feet thick.)   I am going to convert each light to be dual-function, with (a) background candle-LEDs and (b) a couple of 5w LED spotlights Already I have acquired 12v LED drivers and step-down transformers (12v to 5V) for the candle LEDs.   What I wanted to figure out was some electronincs to allow me to control them all by using the existing in-wall wires and perhaps replacing the wall switch with a push-button switch. What I had in mind was to be able to achieve different functions sequentially, possibly using an IC like a 4017. However, I'm only a beginner at electronics, and I haven't been able to figure out a way to do it.   One sequencing that would be effective, commencing with an all-off situation, would be:   1st press = candle lights only on   2nd press = LED spotlights on (Candle bulbs remain on)   3rd press =  All off   Cycle then repeats.   If this proves to be impossible, I also considered the idea of short and long presses, which could trigger a timer for the long press to acomplish some switching   The power of 230v a/c will also be travelling down the same wires to give power to the 12v LED drivers in each lamp, so I'm actually talking about sequential presses on a 230v a/c circuit.

convert negative pulse into positive using a transistor?

Hello... ive built an scr using transistors to turn on leds in my car with my remote.. my remote uses negative pulse.. now the scr(latching transistor) that ive built turns on with a positive pulse and off with negative.. so turning it off is not a problem.. I need to change the negative turn on pulse to positive to turn it on though. I know theres a simple way using a transistor to do this, but im still learning and my knowledge of transistors is still limited.. here is the schematic I used.. figure 75 b. I followed the schematic and it works just fine..  ... thanks for helping me out here

What is the best design for an electromagnet in a pulse engine?

I am a complete bigger to all magnets, electromagnets, and electronics in general. Recently I've had an interested in different electric motors and have been looking into trying to make a pulse motor that is both efficient and powerful. To do this I want to be able to have the best arrangement of the magnetic fields of the neodymium magnets on the spinning disk and the electromagnets on the outside. I started playing around with the magnetic calculator found on but I don't really know what I'm looking at, just that different shapes and sizes have different fields and strengths.  Since a pulse motor is built by using an electromagnet to repel a neodymium magnet, what would be the best design for a strong burst electromagnet in the direction it's repelling the neodymium magnet? Also, what would be the best shape for the magnet to have the biggest repelling effect from the pulsing electromagnets?

Short range radio pulse transmitter design?

I need something simple to transmit pulses 2-3 meters to a receiver The transmitter will output a pulse every few seconds, transmit a small burst at X frequency. The receiver then outputs a short high pulse/outputs high for the duration of the received pulse. I want this to be as simple as it can possibly be, cost being the primary restriction and power usage being also of fairly high importance, so please no suggestions of Bluetooth or xbee type systems. It does not have to be a radio based system, however it needs to work without line of sight and of course without connecting wires. If it helps the overall aim is a 'safety signal' that will set of an alarm at the receiving end if several pulses are missed Anyone? EDIT: To clarify I am looking for simple, like really simple. So the transmitter is just a resonator and antenna. What I need is a simple receiver that will respond to a specific frequency, on or off. Does such a thing exist?

Hi, here I have a common gas igniter like this: Well, I removed the circuit from the box, then I shorted the two terminals, using various kind of coils (thick wire, thin wire, in various configurations and with different turns), but seems that this circuit is unable to generate electromagnetic pulses; I've tried to turn on a fluorescent lamp, to cause interferences to a pocket calculator (as I can see in various videos on youtube), but nothing happens. If I remove the coil from the terminals I am able to get nice sparks. So, why this circuit won't work as expected? I miss something? However this is the circuit: Please note that I'm aware of the fact that these kind of circuit could be dangerous; I'm taking all possible precautions (I'm using it far from any electrical device, I'm using isolated gloves, and so on). I just want to make this circuit for fun. Many thanks.

DPDT Timer circuit i.e. Momentary ON (+6v pulse) then OFF for 10 sec's then Momentary ON (reverse pulse)

I need to toggle a solenoid between 2 positions. It isn't spring loaded so needs to be powered between states i.e. a +6v and GND pulse to the coil then wait 5 to 10 sec's before sending another pulse but with the polarity reversed. Simple to do with a 'Mom-OFF-Mom' double pole double throw toggle switch e.g. JAYCAR Switch Tgl Mini CTR-OFF DPDT MOM CAT.NO: ST0358 but I would like to be a bit more automated.  Ideally the cycle will start at power on and then automatically repeat every 30 min's or so but if that makes it too complex, then a momentary push button switch could be included to manually initiate the cycle.

Pulse jets are fun to watch and you can get an intro to making one with a jam jar. Make a big one and it can be incredibly freakin' loud. Mount it onto a bicycle like Robert Maddox did and you'll get speeds up to 75 mph as you blast your ears into loose bits of jelly. Link
