wine rack

Hi, I don't have a ton of experience with wood, but I saw this wine rack http://www.kukhaven.com/wine-storage/wine-staff and want to build something similar.  Would a 4x4 work to make this out of or do I need a harder wood?  Also what would be the best way to attach it to the wall? Thanks

Motherboard rack!

I just worked on this some yesturday, and these are the results I have in the picture. I've been wanting to do this for a long while, to have motherboards stacked in a rack configuration using nothing other than the motherboards themselves and threaded steel rods. I had to make the holes on the motherboards larger using a diamond bit on my dremel, and very teadiously carve away at the magic compound (PCB) that contains a secret mixture of equal amounts pixie dust, and wood glue. when I was done, this is what I resulted with as you'll see in the end picture, the only thing that makes me nervous is the fact that it has started to put pressure on some of the rods causing my asus board on the bottom to bend slightly, this is because they are either bent, or for some reason perhaps the brass nuts I'm using weren't threaded completely straight up and down, either way I'm not TOO worried about it. No I have no actually powered them up yet to see if they work, thats another thing I'm working on, more outlets. I will post when I do. I do have one question of anyone who stumbles across this! Does anyone have an idea for some kind of consolidated power supply situation with these motherboards? I plan on using some longer rods if this ends up working out fine, then I could stack, say maybe 10 of them at once (thats my goal). Would that mean I also have to have a stack of 10 desktop power supplies? Cawm on, I'm trying not to kill my hydro bill.

Knex Rack and Pinion?

Hey Guys and Girls, Recently I ran across an old prototype of a knex rack and pinion I made a long time ago. I was curious as to if there have been any other rack and pinon designs shown on the site of maybe that have been used in a project. Second: Would anybody have any interest in seeing the design before I take it apart? Any Ideas of what it could be used for? Thanks Killer~SafeCracker

Help with clothes rack?

I desperately need some racks for clothes on hangers, to be used for out-of-season storage in my garage and also at my upcoming yard sale. I'm tired of buying the flimsy garment racks at Wal-Mart, etc. I'm willing to build them myself from wood or pipes (preferably pipes, for sturdiness) if someone could suggest how to do this. Any advice? I don't know anything about welding or cutting pipes, etc. -- just simple home repairs -- but am willing to tackle any beginner-level instructions. Thanks for any information -- Carolyn Bahm, Collierville, TN

Small KNEX rack and pinion.

Hello everybody it's been a long time since I have posted a forum topic on here but I just built a a new KNEX rack and pinion I would like to so everybody. The only other rack and pinion on Instructables was made by Killer~SafeCracker but it was huge and not to practical to put into a model. So here is a new rack and pinion that I made and it's way smaller then the one built by Killer~SafeCracker. The secret to this design is that it' uses a Micro KNEX to build the rack. I think there is a lot of neat things that could be made with this so please tell me what you come up with!

Raise & Lower Spice Rack

I built a small spice rack that hangs on the underside of my kitchen cupboards (it is hidden behind the valence), and I want to have it raise and lower using a simple motor mechanism but I am a complete novice and I have no idea where to start. Right now I can just raise and lower it by pulling a string, in the same you would raise and lower window blinds. Any thoughts?

How can I make a shoe rack for my coat closet that is like a pull out pantry?

I have a full coat closet, approx 3' wide, but I don't want to take up the entire thing with shoes.  I have been looking at pull out pantries and thinking that I could attach side-sliding rails to one of the side walls of the closet and create a pull out shoe rack.  Only thing is, I suspect that it would take up  a fair amount of space (13" wide??) - is there a maximum angle I need to keep the rack (I am thinking ikea Komplement shoe rack) in order to keep the shoes on?  As well, we don't want the shoes to touch the coats, so I need to put a divider up - do I need to have holes in the divider to ensure air circulation?  How heavy duty should the slider be?  Is there a better, more inventive solution that I have not seen or thought of?  I am brand new to the world of DIY, so consider me a complete novice and please point out the smallest details!! Thanks!!

Looking to make tiny motorized track for spice storage?

I need more spice storage than any spice rack I can find.  My cabinet space is roughly 23 inches by 11 inches.  I would like to build some sort of serpentine track through the entire space that can hopefully be motorized to carry standard size spice bottles around for display.  I have considered using train track but the trains that would run on track that can make the radius turn required (roughly 1.5 inch radius) is not sturdy enough to support the bottles.  I have considered a chain and sprocket system.  I have even considered using children's building toys.  Any ideas?

How can replicate the functionality of this bike rack cradle?

I have a bike rack with rubber cradles that have dried out. I'm annoyed because the cradles are no longer available and every rack manufacturer seems to make cradles to fit a different bar diameter. In my case it's 1.125". Current racks on the market are either 1" or 1.25". Any ideas on how to replicate the functionality of this cradle? I need to make 8 of them. It needs to be soft enough not to scratch the paint finish on a bicycle.  https://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/pics/R/G/RG8890083_1000.jpg

Need a timed reversible DC motor with either a string or rack and pinion.

Originally this was a way to cheat a video game.  But it kills two birds with one stone.  I get what I want in the game and I get to learn about electronics/robotics... I want to create a device that will lower a stylus to touch the screen on an ipad, then lower another stylus to touch another part of the screen.  Then 6 seconds later repeat. I thought to use 2 timers and 2 DC motors with either string attached to a spool attached to the styluses OR a rack an pinion set up.  But I don't know what type of timer I need, or how to make a switch to reverse the direction of the motor...  Thanks so much in advance! Hello! I'm looking for something to recycle into a shoe rack I'm making, any ideas?

I love the idea of using material that would otherwise be thrown away, and it's cheaper :). I need a fairly rigid area of about 25x28cm for the "shelves". The material will be in view, so it would be awesome if it looked interesting. The actual structure of the rack will probably be MDF, so I know for sure it will not fall apart. Plan B is using VHS tapes for the "structure" (vertical parts) and wood for the shelves, but that would probably be harder to pull off :)

Plans or a place to order a bike rack for a 4-wheeler

I looked a ball-mount hitch type bicycle racks (4-wheeler doesn't have a receiver hitch) for vehicles and they aren't going work. How / where do you store your kitchen cooling racks?

I'm looking for ideas for storing multiple sizes of cooling and broiling racks.  Ideally, they would be within easy reach (like not in the garage) but not in the way. So I'm asking the community in hopes that someone has found a non-tangling, space conserving, convenient method.

K'NEX Machine Gun (Does Not Use "Barrel Per Bullet" Design)

How it should (How I want it to) work. Background: Uses a rack and pinion system to draw back a firing pin to launch projectiles(firing pin not shown).1. Crank (black rod) will be turned, spinning the pinion, which in turn draws back the rack. First picture shows the racks in default position. They are locked in place against the pinions by the yellow connectors stopping the orange connectors (center).2. Rubber bands attached to the racks pull them inward, but is stopped by the yellow connectors. Once it reaches the end, the rubber bands pulling the racks will pull them inward suddenly. This will free the racks from the pinions, so turning the crank will not pull back the mechanism any more. 3. Once the racks impacts the front, the force of the impact pushes it against the angled yellow structure, thus resetting the racks into default again.Basically someone build this so it works well, por favor.

is there a way to make a pop-up cd rack that uses 12v and a motor? Answered

I want to build a few pop-up parts for my pc station. One of them being a CD rack that stacks the CD's vertially and can, at a push of a button, raise itself up through the hole in my pc station, and back down again (see the pop-up kitchen spice rack). I know this is probably achievable given that there are many motors that will run on 12v, but i cannot work out how it would lift or how it would stop at the maximum height before it comes up against the edge of the desk etc.
