Radio Shows

I was recently given a copy of an old radio show called The Shadow. I enjoyed listening to the program, and could not help but wonder if there are any new radio shows being broadcasted. I found a few shows that air in the UK, but I could not find any in the US. Does anyone know if there is a station that still has radio shows?

Nanotube Radio

Nanotube Radio: Supplementary materialsK. Jensen, J. Weldon, H. Garcia, and A. ZettlDepartment of Physics, University of California at BerkeleyCenter of Integrated Nanomechanical Systems, University of California at BerkeleyMaterials Sciences Division, Lawrence Berkeley National LaboratoryBerkeley, CA 94720, U.S.A.We have constructed a fully functional, fully integrated radio receiver, orders-of-magnitude smaller than any previous radio, from a single carbon nanotube. The single nanotube serves, at once, as all major components of a radio: antenna, tuner, amplifier, and demodulator. Moreover, the antenna and tuner are implemented in a radically different manner than traditional radios, receiving signals via high frequency mechanical vibrations of the nanotube rather than through traditional electrical means. We have already used the nanotube radio to receive and play music from FM radio transmissions such as Layla by Eric Clapton (Derek and the Dominos) and the Beach Boy's Good Vibrations. The nanotube radio's extremely small size could enable radical new applications such as radio controlled devices small enough to exist in the human bloodstream, or simply smaller, cheaper, and more efficient wireless devices such as cellular phones....This is the site of the original article

Radio Mod?

I would like to mod a handheld radio (or even a analogue tv but radio would be better) to get to listen to higher frequencies than normally available. I'd Like to hit the 1420Mhz mark approximately but with little electrical engineering or architecture experience, I'm not certain how? Which might make a TV easier to get there as UHF covers that right? (still safer to play with a battery powered radio than a 240V powered one) I figured there is someone out there with the ability to figure out what components need changing? The variable resistor that tunes it perhaps? If you'd rather post an instructable I'll follow that or just tell me what needs replacing with what? Any Ideas?? Thanks

DELAY MY RADIO!

I love baseball.  I want to watch the World Series on TV, but I don't want to listen to the TV announcers.  I want to listen to the radio broadcast instead.*  Problem is, the "live" TV arrives 1-2 seconds after the radio.  Which means I hear about the deep flyball to left before I see it. And that takes the fun out of watching the game. So, I'm wondering if I can add an adjustable delay to the sound from my radio, to sync up with the picture.  I can sacrifice a boom box or other radio for this if nec. Or some other solution? (I can record both and sync 'em up later using video editing software, but that's not practical). * for baseball fans:  it's the choice between the Buck/McCarver team (perfectly boring & perfectly obnoxious) and Jon Miller/Joe Morgan radio team (passionate and fun).

HAM Radio Questions

I looked up "HAM RADIO STARTER KIT" and differnet like phrases to see what I would be looking at... but simply cannot find anything. I assume its because your not supposed to purchase any of the stuff unless your licenced. I want to get in but I don't know where to start... and if after I start if I can afford it. Where can I learn the stuff thats on the test? I don't want to BUY a book, I have never seen any topic that didn't have soo little stuff under google. I mean I have been looking under "Amature Radio" and "HAM Radio" and getting certified and everyone wants to sell a book.

Making a small radio??

Thanks, Tony :)

FM radio antennas

Are there any ideas out there for building an FM antenna booster that can be used with the usual whip antenna that comes built into most radios these days. Most of the radios are made in such a way that it is difficult to get at the internal wiring, so the booster would have to be an external unit.

Xbee radio control?

I've been thinking about making a FPV RC (first person view) plane and I was wondering about using Xbee and Ardunio. I was thinking have an Arduino on the ground and another one in the plane each one with an Xbee. I want to have joysticks, buttons and switches on the ground to control at least 4 servos, one or two ESC's and possibly other things (like LED's and retractable landing gear) in the plane and also have a camera and some sensors (altitude, battery level, ECT) in the plane sending video and data back to earth where it can be displayed. I am quite new to electronics and I just want to know if what I said is possible, if there is an easier/cheaper way, how one might go about doing it and if that's even how you use an Xbee. Thanks for any help, it will be greatly appreciated

Floating radio power usage?

I am building a floating radio to take on a float trip. I do not know much about power usage. I was going to use a car or deep well battery for power. I was wanting to run (4)-6X9 speakers, a amp, a 10" sub, and possibly some LED lights that would beat with the music that could be shut off during the day. Is this to much drain on the battery? The float lasts all day and I was concerned about draining the battery before the trip was over. I was told by the local Marine shop that once I start adding amps andor subs the power would drain much quicker. Any suggestions on stereo, speaker, sub, amp, size or the number of things I could run would be appreciated.

Satellite to Radio to Pneumatic Valve

I want to receive some sort of satellite signal with a radio and then use the data I receive to control a pneumatic system to replicate a heart beating. I have been talking around with some people who know a bit about radios and the such but haven't gotten much conclusive help.  I would like to build as much of this as I can myself, the entire radio and everything, though I only have about a month to do it. A DIY radio kit paired with an Arduino might be the answer due to time restraints.  What i've learned so far is that I probably want it to be a tunable AM radio. Whether or not I should build that myself from scratch, build a DIY kit, or just purchase one, I am not sure. How to then interface that into a system to then control a pneumatic system, I have no idea other than the obvious arduino. Lastly, I don't need any special signal from the satellite. I really just need to receive a voltage from the radio. Though, hooking into a satellite with an onboard atomic clock so that i can then display the time as well would be great. I am going to keep doing research, though if anyone here can lend a helping hand I would be very appreciative!
