Radioshack... not so bad?

I recently went to radioshack, they now have a wider selection, and on most components the price isn't so bad actually. Most items are only a bit more than what you would pay online, yet there is no shipping charge and you get it instantly. I recently bought 2 micro motors for 8 dollars, online I could get 2 for 2 dollars, plus like 5 dollar shipping, it'd cost 7 dollars, but here I got it for 8 instantly. But not everything at radioshack is like that, I'd say only for resistors, capacitors, and LEDs are way overpriced. The rest is actually not so bad

UAV from scratch and radioshack?

I see that Radioshack is going bankrupt and is closing its stores so they are having a closing sale. So i was wondering is it possible to build a UAV from parts bought at radioshack to take advantage of its sale? Can someone point me to a guide or instructable or 'how to' to build a uav from radioshack parts?

Radioshack's doom - a problem for Makers?

I had missed this story until today, but it seems that Radioshack is on its last legs, with most commentators expecting it to cease trading by the end of this year. Aside from the fact that it will be sad to see such a well-known name disappear from the scene, I wonder what it will mean to the Maker community? How many folk buy their components, especially the last-minute bits needed to finish? Will the demise affect the Maker community, or does the company's image loom larger than its real influence, and the closure won't affect much after all? Will it affect you?

Radioshack Submini Pushbutton Switch (275-1571) - Bulk?

I am looking to buy Radioshack's Submini Pushbutton Switch in bulk. I really can't seem to find it online anywhere.The package says that it is custom manufactured in China. I need to buy about 50, and possibly even more in the future, and with Radioshack's prices, it will be a pain to blow $75 for 50 switches.Thanks for your help.

Non-conventional Servo motor gear problems

I have a gear that needs replacing in my radioshack r/c car, since it's from radio shack it isn't conventional at all (has 6 wires coming off of it) i have been trying to find a replacement gear set that would give the specifications of the gears but so far, no dice... i don't want to give up because it was a $100+ car (i know i overpaid) i also have a gear that is the exact size from the servo so i know the dimensions of the broken gear, if you have any suggestions for me that would be great!

how do i hook up my equalizer?

Our radio broke so my dad got a new one on craigslist, the guy also gave us an equalizer and a few speakers. my dad didnt want the speakers or equalizer so he gave it to me. i cant hook up the equalizer to the two speakers (left and right).

I bought a multi colored 3 prong LED and it blinks... what did I buy? Answered

What's the pinout?I have it working, but... I would like to make sure I do not fry it. it's red blue and green but automaticly cycles in an odd pattern with teal... Shouldn't there be a purple? Bought from radioshack. Sorry, no images.

Electronics store catalog swap anyone? Jaycar for Radioshack or similar.? Answered

Would anyone like to swap a 2012 Jaycar Electronics catalog ( brand new from store ) for a Radioshack catalog if there is one? Jaycar catalog contains roughly 500 pages and costs $3.95AU. It would interest me to see prices and component / device differences between countries. How I Learned to Stop Worrying and NEVER shop at RadioShack

So, tips for building things that I've learned today:Have some strange piece of hardware that you're trying to take apart? Like that dead cell phone, for its pager motor? I just found the bristlebot project, and it's too cute. Also, I'm home for winter, and all that Highschool-Star left here was a pile of magnet wire, and some electrical tape. Not even a breadboard! (Ah well, thanks highschool-Star, for what stuff is here - Star-of-the-future gets none!).So, without a tiny Torx-6 screwdriver that I'm sure my family would use exactly once (I mean, that I would use exactly once), I drove to the nearest place and - did not buy one.I walked in, unscrewed the screws I needed out, and put it back on the shelf.$15, saved!Also, don't buy batteries at radioshack, ever. 3V coin-cells were the same price as 1.5-volters, and, at $6, all of them cost less than a frappucino at Starbucks. Six dollars! That's around $2 per VOLT, at best! So I left and went to the drugstore where two 3V coincells cost $2. Much better.

RadioShack Tri Color LED strip light show help?

I'm having partial success creating a synchronized light show by calling some colors and adding delays. My main problem is creating specific colors or even displaying one color on the entire strip. Suggested max time for running a RadioShack 45-Watt Desoldering Iron?

After using my desoldering iron for approximately 1-2 hours I had melted the tip, rendering it useless. I have since gotten replacement tips. I do also want to add that the desoldering iron and tip were brand new, just out of the pack, and yes, I was using it correctly  =)  But is their a suggested maximum amount of time someone should use the iron to avoid this? http://www.radioshack.com/radioshack-45-watt-desoldering-iron/6402060.html#.VJYyN-uAK4

Ok I need to know, does radioshack sell circuitboards? or at least those white ones as seen in https://www.instructables.com/id/Fuzzy-logic-Mood-light-with-LEDs/ If they don't then what store can I get them at? Also does anywhere else other that radioshack and the internet sell LEDs

What parts would I need to build a remote control car from scratch?

As stated above, I need to know what parts I would need to build a remote control car from scratch. The main things are the remote control itself, and the components that allow for a the system to allow electricity to flow. I'm guessing they are some sort of transmitter however I am not sure. I can cut the frame out on a plasma cam, but need to know the general things I will be needing, and an approximate cost. Also where can I get the items? Radioshack i'm presuming.

Looking for a specific Instructable - Video effect with demo cycle ride to RadioShack.? Answered

Probably 18 months ago or thereabouts, someone posted a processing  technique to give an effect which I remember as similar to a blurred version of the David Hockney photo sequences, only on video.  He posted a demo video which I'm pretty sure was a bike ride to his local RadioShack.   I've spent a looong time trekking back and pushed the Instructables search engine to its limits, but no joy.   Can anyone put their finger on this Instructable for me?

How much is liquid solder flux at menards?

I like to solder things and stuff. I get frustrated when the solder just wont stay or go where I want to. Today I was working on a robot for science olympiad at school and my teacher showed me how to use liquid solder flux. I was amazed by how well it worked. I asked him where he got it and he said menards but he didnt remember how much it cost. Does any one know. I cant drive yet and my family is sick except me so asking a friends mom to give me a ride to menards would be kind of weird. Do you know how much it cost at other stores? I could only find the paste on radioshacks website. It didnt seem to work as well when I used it.

I need low power relays.

I've been buying low power relays at RadioShack, but I bought them all. I need more relays and don't want to wait for RadioShack to restock. Extremely urgent!! I need help figuring out how to connect an alarm to a PIR sensor! Answered

Skip to the second paragraph if you are short on time or get sick of me droning on.              Okay, so you've just done the first step in helping me, reading this.  Me and my dad are sick of having our pumpkins trashed on Halloween just because someone doesn't like our football team. (there are other reasons too but that could take a whole book and a month to explain it)  We live in a nice neighborhood where everybody knows everyone and things are pretty nice.  However there are some people in our neighborhood who just don't give a freaking crap what their kids do, and I'm sick of it.                         So I have a PIR sensor, Ladyada explaining how to use them, RadioShack, and Adafruit Industries.  I also have an extremely loud alarm that goes off when the circuit is broken.  I need some help figuring out how to make the PIR sensor break the circuit on the alarm.  I have included a diagram explaining.

Using potentiometer to dim Lights, controlling volume etc.?

I Live in a suburb of India I have found a radio shack here. I have managed to found only one kind of rotary potentiometer there ie, A10K(Brand: I-MAXX Made in Taiwan) with 3 pins on the side and 2 pins at the bottom... (something like the pic however instead of the blue bottom I have sea green). Well how to embed it in an led circuit or speaker circuit to dim the light or control the volume of a speaker respectively..... Thanks....

RC Car Battery Powered Portable USB Charger!

I recently decided that I wanted to build a "USB Battery Pack" for charging my USB devices, like my phone and camera, on the go, however, I'm pretty new to this stuff. Like, circuits and DIY electronics. So...I need help. Like, very detailed help. I have two batteries from some old RC cars. They're Nikko brand, 9.6 volts each, and they look like this: http://www.batteryspace.com/ProductImages/rc-battery/rc96v700h220.jpg I also have the connector for them, with the red and black leads coming out. What I'm wanting is charger to have is 2 USB ports, an On/Off rocker switch, an LED for On, and an LED for Low Battery. But I have no idea where to start, what to buy, or how to connect what to buy. So I'm asking here. There have been plenty of tutorials for usb chargers on here and Youtube, but none close to what I want to make. If the batteries I have wouldn't be as efficient, please tell. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it!

Cheap LEDs in Bulk?

I use Light Emitting Diodes for nearly every project I make. I have been looking as my receipts for the last six months at Radioshack, and found that I've purchased over 400 LEDs, and I have none remaining. I obviously go through them quite quick. Therefore, I am looking for a reliable website that sells LEDs in bulk for cheap. It is, quite obviously, expensive to buy 20 packs of LEDs from Radioshack (I've spent nearly $100), so I'd like to buy in bulk (which usually results in lower prices). Thanks in advance!

MOSFET Transistor? Answered

Hey Instructables. I am working on a project requiring some MOSFETs but they have to be smaller than the Radioshack IRF510's (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062618). I think I found some ones that are smaller (http://www.jameco.com/1/1/195-bs170-transistor-bs170-n-channel-mosfet-60v-92.html), but do they have the same functionality? What I mean is, will they work the same way? I believe they will, since they are both labeled as N-Channel MOSFET Transistors, but its always good to check. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know what a high quality digital multimeter brand would be and where I could find it? [Excluding RadioShack] Answered

I've seen some some digital multimeters on RadioShack for around $20 but they kinda make me nervous.   The qualities I'm looking for are: Reliable, very accurate (can measure very small amounts of current, like from small solar cells, small wires, computer fans, etc.), large variety of ranges, as well as very durable. Any help in finding out what the right digital multimeter for me would be, is very much appreciated!

The Shack

According to this article over at engadget, RadioShack is rebranding as "The Shack" and attempting to change their corporate culture. I wonder if this will be the end of components being available there? Not that I particularly enjoy paying $3.49 for an 8 cent LED, but sometimes you don't want to wait for it in the mail.
