IR Receiver

I recently ripped apart a Sky+ box that was out of use. Of course, it contained many parts. Quite a few tact switches, a few LEDs, a lot of capacitors, lots of resistors. One of these parts was a little metal cube with a black sphere protruding from the front of it. This is the IR receiver for the remote. I wish to incorporate it into another project. The first problem is I don't know how to use it. It has 3 "legs" - 3 metal contacts. The second problem is I can't easily experiment with it as I inadvertently destroyed my breadboard earlier. A new one will come as soon as I can manage, but until then..... My question is this - any ideas how it would be used? Thanks in advance,     ~H4ZZ

Infrared transmitter and receiver

I want to make a gadget which sends a few kb of data via infrared and also receives data via infrared with a timestamp. However, I am stuck as I have only used arduinos before and I have to design a circuitboard which I have never done before, with PIC microcontrollers (must be cheap ones). I need help a) choosing a microcontroller and b) assembling all the components into a circuitboard (ir transmitter, receiver, microusb port to transfer data to pc, battery). Gadget will eventually be portable so make everything light. Thanks Khalid

Notification of winner not received

I was one of the winners of the Coffee Challenge (YEAH ME!!!) I have never received "official" notification (I think I read I would need to sign something) I just saw my Instructable (Good Morning Coffee Soap) on the Winner List. I didn't think much about not getting the prizes until my DH asked tonight. What do I need to do, or whom do I need to contact? Now that I'm thinking about it I've never gotten the Sugru from entering a before and after beard picture on the December beard challenge. :-(

Wireless internet receiver? Answered

Is there any device that you can plug into your router in one room, and then connects wirelessly to a receiver in another room, and then that connects to a device such as a laptop? What I am looking to do is take the ethernet jack that is in my moms office and hook the transmitter up to it. Then take then take the wireless receiver and put it in my room to hook it up to my Apple Time Capsule. From the Time Capsule I would send the wireless signal to my laptop sitting right next to it. If you are thinking I could just hook my Time capsule up to the modem in my moms office, thats the way we have it set up right now, which gives me a very weak internet signal, if any, so if there is any device that will do this it has to send out a stronger signal than the Time Capsule. If you don't understand what I was saying you can look ant the diagram below. Is this possible?

Didn't receive prize?

I recently won a runner-up prize in the elemental LED contest. I entered my mailing info and about a week later, I got the instructables prize pack with a t-shirt a stuff, but I didn't get the actual prize (Apollo beat jammer). Does the prize normally come separately from the instructables pack? If so, how long will it take? (been 2 weeks since the instructables pack came) thanks

wifi receiver/repeater??

Hi everyone, i looked at the instructable of the wokfi antenna and the site of where it all started on that topic ( http://www.usbwifi.orcon.net.nz/ ).i found a free wifi access in my area, i got 1 pc (ethernet card+ usb wifi dongle), one laptop (wifi), a nintendo wii (wifi) and an old pc (233mhz, ethernet card) also a spare ethernet pci card and a pcmcia wifi not in the laptop, laying around .here's what i would like to do to have internet for free:- get the signal from the free wifi access point to the 233 mhz pc- use that pc as a firewall- then send the signal thru the ethernet cable and with another wifi (the pcmcia in the pc with a pcmcia to pci adapter or another usb wifi dongle, witch ever is cheaper) because my laptop can't reach the free wifi access point, it's to far..i'm looking for help on this please, i'll do an instructable with it because i think it could also be usefull to other. that whole idea of free wifi to anyone could be used here. because, let's say in a block, dorm, appartment a far away wifi connection could be shared localy. i've been digging for an intense 2 days now but my knowledge about networks and english (my first language is french) aren't that good so if anybody got an idea where to start looking it would be very appreciated.

Help with Receiver/Transmitter and attaching motors?

I have a GWS 2.4GHz transmitter and receiver, seen here. http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-GWRX4SB.html http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-GWS24TR.html Essentially, I am attempting to make a sumobot with two motors taken from an electric screw driver (two wires positive and ground) The receiver is marketed for model airplanes, but I was assured it also works with motors. I am unsure what to plug into where. The receiver has three pins per channel: positive, ground and signal. Does anyone know how I should set this up?

FM Wireless Microphone receiver

About a year ago I got one end of an wireless microphone system at a yard sale. As far as I can tell, it is the sending unit. The recieving unit is lost to posterity, which is why it was so cheap, and has since been collecting dust. It has an RCA line in, 1/4 inch microphone in, a squelch knob, an output knob, a two-foot antenna, and a power button. It says it operates at 49.83MHz FM. I don't have a receiver that will pick up that frequency, and I'd like to know what it would take to build one. Perhaps mod an existing FM radio?

Best configuration for an AM receiver?

Hi all. I am trying to make a circuit that would help me find lost keys. It would be a simple beeper/ noise maker triggered by AM (for simplicity). I want it to be small and, if possible, cheap. What would be the best approach? Should I use the incoming signal to 'trigger' a 555 oscillator or should I send the 'beep with the signal (The transmitter can be as big as required)? Also, most of the circuits I found online were for tune-able radios. If I want to center mine at 1 MHz and if the quality of the sound is not important, how simple can I make the circuit (while still keeping it sensitive)?

Connect ESCs with RC receiver?

I am trying to connect 4 ESCs with a FlySku 6 Channel Receiver. I managed to connect all four of them to the throttle channel and it works fine. However, is it possible to connect them to other channels wiht them being plugged in the throttle channel at the same time? I am making a quad-copter and I am not sure what channels to use? like I know that we need the throttle channel to change the throttle and the motor speed. but like to change the pitch, roll and yaw, we need the other channels too right? So can anyone please guide me through it? I am using a flycky CT6B transmitter and a 6 channel receiver.

Quick and cheap disposable receivers?

I want to make a lot of them for very cheap.. i want them to be small and simple and im not worried about security or anything between transmitter and receiver just want to make it able to work from about 100 feet or less.. They only need to be a one-channel momentary type.  i also want to be able to use different transmitters (*not worried about size of transmitter, but i want it to be portable*) to control them.. basically i want a bunch of clones of receivers.  Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance.. PS: I CAN solder

Help with Bluetooth Music Receiver

Hi everyone. I have this problem I don't know how to solve. Recently I bought a Linocell Bluetooth Music Receiver to plug in my car. I wanted to rip away the battery and make it to turn on when I turn started the car. The problem is that the On/Off has two functions: 1. The obvious On/Off function (holding the button for 3-5 seconds) 2. Search mode (holding the button for about 10 seconds) How and what do I modify for it to work the way I want? I can upload a picture of the circuit board if it helps.

where are the outputs on this wireless receiver Answered

Hi, i am planning on buying, and another instructables member already has, buying this wireless receiver (comes with a transmitter), for use in whatever we desire to use it for! heres lins to two images of it, i dont understand a bit of it, only i see the inputspostive and negative, and the outputs positives, but thats it , which make no sense to me. http://downloads.villageorigin.com/001540-015/Diagram%202.JPG http://downloads.villageorigin.com/001540-015/Diagram1.JPG anyway, what i know is where the positive and negative terminals are, also, the othe rmember has already tried running this using the ground terminal as the negative for the outputs, but says it does ot work at all, and that is the only thing which seems to make sense. also, this is the only thing the ebay seller could give me in regards to operating and installing this chip into anything, because they know nothing of it, and asume that the ebay users who buy it already know how to use it. anyways, there are several ports d0,d1,d2,d3 vt, vcc, and ground al the d's are the output ports, vt is called switching voltage and is assigned to an output depending on what button is pressed on the receiver, and thats all the information i have gotton. and from what i know, its inoperable, but then again, i dont know much about that stuff also, who ever shos me how this work, i promise wil get a "best answer" from me.

Never receive my prize

Hi I was a winner (First 5) of the cardboard contest. I already received the instructables prize with my robot t-shirt.  Thanks it is great :) A few weeks ago I received a mail (not email) from Fedex describing the sending of my prize. I'm surprise to see that it mentions the sending of the prize "Three Month HowToons Subscription". First because I don't received this pack, I only received the tshirt from instructables (thanks it is great). And also because I'm in the First(5) winners and it's normally six month HowToons subscription and not three. Could you please tell me if I will receive it? Thanks for your response. Have a good day

Transmit & receive 4ch audio

I am looking for a cheap solution to transmit and receive 4 channels of audio.Transmitter may be bulky, but the receiver must be small. (it is for an interactive installation)Audio The 4 channels will be converted to 2 channels stereo, so in total 2 stereo signals of audio need to be transmitted and received (within ~10 meters). Note that achieving the best audio quality is not of top priority.Technique Should I be looking at FM / AM of Bluetooth methods? I've looked at: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1958, but it would be nice if there is also a paired receiver board. It would be nice if the proposed solution is scalable to 6 channels (3 channels stereo).

DTH satellite receiver problem

I have a DTH satellite receiver which has a burnt SMPS power supply (image attached). I replaced the burnt components but again when powered with 220V ac supply to test the output voltages the same components burnt again within a few seconds. I could not figure out what is the actual faulty part. If anyone has any suggestion please feel free to answer. My second problem is the satellite receiver board (image attached) has 6 pins for power connection but I could not figure out what voltage is to be applied to which pin. So I was unable to use a separate power supply for the receiver board. The part number can be seen from the image itself. Please look at the receiver board and help me if anyone has any idea about this board. I tried searching in google with the part number but could not find the same board. Please help me. Any suggestion is welcome. Satellite receiver: Hicway ali M3328C(10039)-11

40kHz Ultrasonic Receiver Wanted

I'm looking for a breakout board, module, etc that is basically a 40kHz ultrasonic receiver, where if it detect a 40kHz signal it puts a pin high sort of thing (volume level as a PWM whatever, I just need to know when there is a 40kHz signal near by). I was thinking of using a HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Range Finder but they only receive for a very short time after the trigger pin goes high, I need it to constantly be sensing.Ideally works with a Raspberry Pi (ie 3.3 volts output, but 5v just means I add a voltage divider not a biggie)Thanks

Is it possible to use a old mobile as a bluetooth audio receiver?

I have seen several tutorials outlining use of old mobile as an mp3 player especially hook it up with an car audio player (via aux in port). I have a sony ericsson w700i walkman cell phone lying with me. I already am using it as an mp3 player in the car. I wanted to know if i can extend its use further and pair it with my new mobile to play music wireless. If it's possible it might well be used for making receiving calls via car audio too. I know there are several cheap stereo bluetooth receivers out there which can be used for the same purpose but I am interested in knowing if an old mobile can be used for this purpose somehow or not.

I can't place the device close to one of the sides of the enclosure and open a hole for the IR receiver.  I hope make sense what I'm trying to do. Thank you for your help in advance.
