Search for recent posts in Topics

Hello, what determines which new Instructables appear in the ALL RECENT page?   I've submitted 6 total, and only 1 has shown up in the ALL RECENT category.   Is it done randomly, or does the administrator pick and choose them?    I ask since those that appear on the All Recent list seem to get hundreds more views than those that do not.   I realize that some are Featured, but I'm referring to the All Recent pulldown.

Hi, a few months ago there was a filtering option "recent" to show the new instructables in order. Now I only see the featured option and no chance to see the latest instructables. How can one enable this filter option again if I want just to browse the latest posts without any prefer?

I flagged a recent post as spam on the DIY air powered moped thread.  This post (along with some others? I thought there were more than 15) appears to have been deleted, but the thread is still at the top of the "most recent posts" ordering despite the most recent remaining post being from 2008. Looks like deleting a post from a thread should trigger a re-evaluation of the date ordering?  Either that or the ordering doesn't respect deleted posts...

Three Questions posted this morning all come up with "the same" ERROR 500 from JavaScript, included at the end of this topic: Why does my multimeter read 18vdc on a 12vdc walwart? Why does my multimeter read 18Vdc on a 12Vdc wall wart? Only one armpit smells? Other Questions, posted both before and since those three, appear to be just fine. Was there a server glitch? Caught in the filters? Deleted by the authors? Recently i've been having to double click on the post button to get any posts on the Q&A or Forums to post. It's like the site isn't receiving the first click. It's happening across multiple PCs in different locations (ie miles apart). I've cleared internet and java cache with no change. Before this was happening i'd post a comment and the comment would be posted and the text field would still show what i had typed.

Ok, so I posted a instructable and after 5 hours of being published, has not yet appeared in the recent section :( . This means therefore I can hardly get ANY views at all and have zero chance of being featured. Is there any way to fix this problem or will this ible I have worked very hard on go to waste? I posted a Q&A; question 20 hours ago. The URL is https://www.instructables.com/answers/How-do-I-thin-out-2-part-epoxy/. When I go to the Recent Q&A; section at https://www.instructables.com/tag/type-question/?count=30&sort;=RECENT, it doesn't appear. Is there a step that I'm missing when I submit the question?

https://www.instructables.com/tag/type-id/?sort=RECENT it just doesn't sort properly today. first page, i am getting re within the first page, I am getting results from 2008 and 2015. currently on windows 10, having the issue in both chrome(ver 45 .something) and MS edge i think the "posted on date" database server may need a reboot. :-) 

When sorted by recent, the top couple of posts in the Questions section have started showing negative post times again (and not chancing to hours after 60 minutes). As of 6PM UK time, the top two questions are showing information like this: "Asked in Technology by miamimac  -293 minutes ago    Answers: 1" This problem has appeared a couple of times before, all while running chrome on win7, and the issue persists after refreshing the page. EDIT: after looking for a bit longer, new questions are getting added to the list after the ones with a negative posting time. ADDITIONAL: recently, post times have been jumping around, causing posts to be re-ordered and Questions posted recently (with correct posting times) to be moved up, often ending up with negative posting times. Are all users seeing the same posting times, or are the faults dependent on area?

I've just discovered that the new profile interface provides only limited access to my Orangeboard.  The "first" page, with the most recent comments, comes up just fine, but there is no "next" link to pull up pages with older comments.

I have tried to post two questions recently and neither of them have posted, I go through the whole process and it even says it was successfully published yet they don't show up.

I was just wondering since this has happened quite a few times recently (and didn't occur in the past): when posting a new instructable, it can now take up to a day or so, until it shows up in the "recent instructables" list and gets any views. why is that? is that some kind of new spam-prevention engine or something similar? oddly, it doesn't happen with all the instructables and also the delay isn't always the same....

I dont get it I usually read evey new project EVERY DAY -- In DETAIL! i am trully addicted to this site i have been for months; please tell me why this is happening. - i click on the explore most recent menu item and i get logged out! i just want to read is something wrong with my browser? Hello, I posted an Instrucable yesterday and views have exploded, reaching 2,270 and rapidy going up. I received an email about two hours ago telling me my Instructable is "popular". However, it is neither listed under recent Instructables, nor does it come up with a search. The only way it is available is via URL. I posted it to a couple of subreddits, views from Reddit total 272. Somehow people on the Instructables app are viewing it, with a total of 373 views. But this only adds up to about 700 views. Are the rest from random Google searches? If so, survival must be a much larger concern that I would have thought. If somebody could explain this for me, that would be great. I have noticed recently that the option to favorite a post is not available (or at least, not where it used to be.) I can still access my past favorites but I can't find the option to add to favorites anymore. Is there something I am missing? It's a shame, this is one of my favorite features of this website... I very much appreciate the feedback. D.

The new You page does not have the little box that shows what the most recent 10 comments that people have replied to you. When you are on a slow computer, having to click that extra link can take a lot longer than it used to. I proffered the old way, but it is nice to have the little thing that says how many ibles and forum topics you've posted. Who agrees?

Hi, I published this instructable today a few hours ago https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-cheap-disposable-camera-capacitor-bank/ and it still has not shown up in the recent list for technology/electronics where I posted it. It doesn't even show up in search when I copy and paste the title of the instructable directly into the search bar! Something must be wrong here... What could be causing this? I recently posted an instructable but I don't think anyone saw it. I didn't even see it appear. The problem is that the home page for instructables.com shows Featured and Popular. I thought the most recent used to appear on the home page. Am I wrong about this? To get to the most recent ones, i have to create the following link: https://www.instructables.com/tag/type:id/?sort=RECENTIt seems like new instructables don't get noticed easily. If I am wrong, tell me what I need to do.

Recently I have massive problems answering questions in the forum. If I press "post" nothing at all happens. After a bit of waiting with still nothing I press "post" again to see a double posting as the result. If there is no double posting I will get "error: backend read error" after about 60 seconds. Operating system is Win7 64, Firefox 31 in use with AdBlock. Checked with Chrome and get the same problem. Edit: tried now for over 30 minutes to post this as the preview only gave me a white page before.

I've recently posted to the forums: https://www.instructables.com/community/My-Developments/ It does not get posted to the specified forum; however, if I search under my profile I do see it has been made "public" in a way. I've had this problem years ago and was told I was most likely caught by the filter robot-something-mer-other.. So.. I'd like to ask if I can be white listed or cleared. It is very frustrating, especially when I eventually do make an instructable I always have to ask to be cleared for it to show on the site.

I published a video but it is not showing up on the recent list and other posts are showing up that have been posted after mine. What's up?

Last night, about 2300 PST, I posted an Instructable I've been drafting for a couple weeks now.  It has been over 15 hours, and the Instructable still fails to show up in my profile feed, and in the main page under recent Instructables, It also shows it as being a draft in the summary view of the menu. But inside the profile there is a link to it as an Instructable, it just does not show up on the feed. My other Instructables each showed up almost immediately after publishing. Is there some kind of problem with the system, or did I hit an update cycle just after it finished or something?

I've recently noticed that, when I go on someone's profile page, the comments box says that that member hasn't posted any comments yet. Is this just happening to me, or is it the same for everyone?

I am kindof annoyed by some of the things that have happened recently (comments that were deleted in a certain thread that is ultimately being blocked, for instance) no name-calling or negativeness so far... I would love to find a website where I can display my projects to the maker community, variety is the spice of life, right? Nothing malicious yet, very good... I know theres MAKE, and I know Hack-A-day does some project hosting, but I would love to find another site as awesome as Instructables with wonderfully arranged project writeups, publishing, and hosting that has a comparably large community. Oh hey, compliments! Can anyone help me? P.S. I apologize to anyone ive upset, I don't mean to hurt feelings.

I posted a instructable today, I have been having tons of trouble embedding video and publishing my instructables, but my most recent one doesn't come up in "Recent" instructables" is there a reason for this, what have I done wrong ? :( please help.?

I am at a complete loss as to why the most recent projects are not on the home page. Some of the projects shown date back to 2014!!! There seems to be no logic as to what is being shown.I hate to say that the previous version of the site was better when some of the improvements are great and it looks a lot better; HOWEVER, being able to see all the most recent project (whether featured or not) from the home page was great and it gave us makers something to aim at. It now seems that posts will be basically hidden unless someone is following you or the group that you post you.PLEASE bring back a simple way to see all submissions to instructables so that all authors get their moment of glory! Hiding recent and new featured posts within individual feeds does not provide that wide and varied community feel that the website use to have as soon as you opened it. Aaarrgghhh!!! now I can't figure out how to post this without putting it into some unrelated category!!!!

I have recently been getting a flood of PM's from people who are not able to post on my orangeboard. I have tried posting myself, but the "add comment" button doesnt work, nor do any of the reply buttons on existing comments. However, I can successfully post on other orangeboards, wtf? I have an idea for instructables. Its a new instructables sidebar on the homepage. It shows the most recent instructables. How can I post it to the site for consideration.

This subject has been raised in another thread but I think it was miss-categorised. Here is the link, in short the thread relates to the inability to seperate the wheat from chaff in terms of "active" and "discarded" questions that have not been yet answered. To summarise; there is no way to list posts in the "answers" section by both unanswered status and recentness. This is a problem because people like myself who only use the forums intermittently have a hard time finding "active" questions where the author is still active and responding. In the linked thread there are some suggestions and idea's. My apologies for effectively duplicating the forum post, but I do not know of any other way of bringing this to the attention of staff. With the recent spate of spam postings, it occurred to me that, "wouldn't it be great to be able to flag the spammers directly, rather than the individual postings"? Less than a minute's thought revealed the obvious abusive disaster that would entail (especially among those of a knexish age and gender). Sigh...

However, it seems to have been caught in the filters like many others before it (I'm thinking the word "Communism" set off the alarms). I have looked over several other threads concerning this issue and all seem to have been handled. I figured I'd ask anyway because I have a few questions: How long does it typically take for a filtered Instructable to be manually approved? Will this affect the Instructable's approval for a contest that closes today? Will the Instructable appear at the top of the Recent section when it is approved or will it be offset? Thanks!

Hello!  I added 2 instructables that are not showing up in Recently Added.  I tried to search for them as well (using the title) and nothing shows up.  The only way I can find them is by going through my own profile.  The other 2 instructables that I have posted showed up pretty quickly.  How long does it normally take?  Thank you!

Yesterday, I posted a instructable in Technology section under Arduino channel. The public link works, but it is not showing up in recent as well as in search results. The "sort=RECENT" URL modifier does not appear to be functioning properly for either Instructables or for Questions.  Since this is a back-end operation, it should not be browser related (FF, MacOSX 10.5.8).  Nevertheless, I have deleted the affected tabs, cleared cache, and reloaded the pages multiple times. Update 23 May 2013:  As Mikeasaurus and Kiteman report, this problem does appear to be fixed.  A fresh Safari session showed the correct results, although my Firefox session still did not.  I quit and restarted Firefox, logged off of my Instructables session before clearing cache and cookies again, and now both pages are displaying correctly. Update 8 July 2013:  It looks like the mid-day software update today has broken this again.  The screenshots shown below (with the two "too many redirects" dummies missing) are exactly what the pages look like right now (3:49 pm PDT). Here are screenshots showing the page of Instructables and the page of Questions.  Both are were just wrong.

Hello All, Please forgive me if any frustration shows through in this post.  I understand all are busy and are probably receving this sort of thing from every angle. I've been caught yet again in the filter preventing my submission from showing on the Recent page.  I seem to be falling into this pit quite frequently despite the very benign nature of my submissions. My submission does not appear while others continue to show.  More frustrating has been how a submission freed from the filter remains in its chronological position, thus putting it far down the page (or on the next  page even). Today I deleted my latest submission, added to the descriptive text (having been told a description too short can trigger the filter) and tried to anticipate/delete any possible trigger word or phrase.  I then resubmitted it - to no avail.  The submission is  a video link.  Were I to add any more text, it would be bulk/fluff.  The subject covers the roasting and brewing of tea - surely a completely benign subject. I'm relatively new to Instructables, (8 months), but when I posted my first Instructable, Steampunk Lamp - Lanterna Antiga, I found it frustrating that I could only include it in one category, so I chose "Steampunk." I inquired about this limitation, and was told by one of the fine folks at Instructables that there was a time when you could chose multiple categories for an Instrucatble, but that people were taking advantage of this feature for exposure, so it has been limited to only one category per Instructable. I would like to get some feedback from other members of the Instructables community about this policy, as I feel being limited to selecting only one category doesn't do justice to many of the fine projects posted here. I know personally I tend to check recent posts in the "Steampunk" category, but may overlook a cool steampunk project if it's posted under "Workshop" or somewhere else. A few months back, I posted a Steampunk Incandescent USB Lamp, and it would seem perfectly logical that such a project should be categorized under "Steampunk", "Lamps", and "USB," but I was forced to chose only one category, so I went with "Steampunk" again. I'm sure there are people who only check "Lamps," or "USB," who would be interested in this project, but don't check "Steampunk," so they haven't seen this project. I think it would be reasonable to be able to select up to three categories to post Instructables, instead of the current "only one category" policy, and hope the fine folks at Instructables will consider adjusting this policy.
