'Specialist researchers at the University of Nottingham say they have developed one of the fastest swimsuits in the world.Scientists at NASA tested the fabric using specialised computer modelling technique to track fluid flow.Swimmers testing the new suit have so far broken three world records. The LZR racer suit, manufactured by Speedo, has up to 5% less drag in the water than a previous model produced last year.Jess Sylvester, a swimmer who has been testing the new suit in Nottingham, said she felt "like a rocket" when she wore it."I feel fast just standing out of the pool in the suit."As soon as I hit the water I feel really fast, really streamlined and it just gives me confidence wearing it."Dr Morvan said: "We focus on the hydrodynamics of the swimmer in the pool."Ms Sylvester added the suit was so tight that it stopped muscles "oscillating and vibrating" which caused drag and could slow swimmers down.World records set with the new swimsuit include those by:Australia's Eamon Sullivan, who shaved 0.08 seconds off Alexander Popov's record in the 50m freestyleZimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry who sliced 2/10th of a second off Hungarian Krisztina Egerzegi's record in the 200m backstrokeand American swimmer Natalie Coughlin who broke the 100m backstroke record in 59.21 seconds.BBC storyVideo of the suit in actionOdd Speedo game websiteUniversity of Nottingham Press ReleasePast Olympic row over Speedo suits.

First of the month plus a Saturday plus a day to myself = sixty-nine species in 11 hours. That's a personal best (previous personal best = 73 species in two days). I'm wrecked, but pleased. If you're interested in the full list, check here. I think my favourite of the day was the Little Tern.

I have a recording of a conference call I have to transcribe. Unfortunately the recorder was placed near a noisy co-worker, who has become the main sound during the recording. Is there some way to pull out and enhance what is now the background noise, my important call?
Help set a record for the most comments on a forum topic. I don't care what it is, pictures, videos, messages, whatever. Just wright something! I have not yet seen a topic with more than 600 comments, but if you know of one, tell me in the comments. Just to start things off: I lost the Game

Red Bull's Flugtag event is normally an event where the focus is on ridiculous contraptions falling into the water. But sometimes people actually do come up with ideas that actually get them some distance. Here's a video of the new record of 207 feet set by Major Trouble and the Dirty Dixies. For comparison, the second video shows a typical Flugtag launch. via Neatorama

I bought a cheap answering machine, but it's too big for the container I want to put it in. What parts can I use from it? I just want it to record a sound and play it back when a button is pressed. Also, I salvaged a part from a touch lamp. How can I incorporate this for the power?

On certain cameras, DVD players, VCR players it has the red, yellow and white "out", if I were to have a spy camera with the yellow and white "out" how would I record that in the space of a largish pocket? Kipkay's Instructable features the exact same style of camera (go here www.instructables.com/id/Covert-Spy-Sunglasses/)Pic is of my one, not my picture though (sorry). Red is for power.

After spending the day in the shed, between three of us, Family Kite have posted six Instructables in 24 hours! OK, a couple weren't exactly huge projects, but we're quite proud of them, especially the boys' projects, which are very much in the Maker spirit: Conker-X's modifications to make a DS Lite easy to hold. Roger-X's assisstive technology biscuit opener. The Tao of Kiteman A Flying Christmas Tree. Binocular grip modification. Fire-starter hack.

Hello, i am an electronics hobbyist, and want to develop an system which is an voltage quality recorder, i mean it measures the various voltage disturbances like transients, swells, sags, THD, etc, I was comfortable in analyzing the concept and with the software too. but for the hardware implementation i am confused of which kind of TI microcontroller or microprocessor is suitable for my project. i will work on the real time calculations and will use FFT in analyzing the voltage.I am planning on dsp processors of C2000 series of TI. But not able to wisely choose them. On what major parameters should i look upon while choosing them. I would be helped if anyone can suggest me which one would precisely be used for this cause. Any more suggestions on how to proceed with it are welcomed. Thank you.

I looked up at bat detector, a device that converts ultrasonic signals into audible sounds. Most bats produce high frequency calls which are often higher than a human ear can pick up. A bat detector picks up the frequencies and then converts the sound into a lower, audible frequency. I was thinking if I could get a bat detector, I use it to capture the ultrasonic sounds. While bat detector could pick up these high frequencies, it would be interesting to see how it will pick up the faintly heard, to human ears - sounds of the industrialised areas/city or even at isolated/quiet areas. The bat detector I want to use is this - http://www.magenta2000.co.uk/acatalog/B ... _Bat4.html I'm thinking of hooking up the bat detector to a digital recorder and a binaural microphone and capture the sound through those equipments. I would greatly appreciate your suggestions/opinions on this matter.

Hi there, looking for info on where to buy a micro voice recorder.. the kind that you would use to hack an alarm clock. Just a simple board/speaker set up, should only be a few dollars and record only a few seconds. Everything I see online is far too sophisticated for this project. Any help would be appreciated, and thanks!

Hello The job that I do is based alot on respect and trust. As all of you might know, trust is very easily destroyed just by words. Thats why I was thinking about putting together a recording device that would be like a wrist band that would only need to have 24h or more recording capability and possible bluetooth for downloading mp3 files. To start things I would need to find a small IC that does real time mp3 compression and does not consume alot of power. any ideas regarding this project ?

Hello. Could anyone advice me, please? I read all of the QA related, but my question would be a bit specific. My intention is to make a greeting card like device, using recordable voice module. Recording your own message by using the microphone is pretty clear. However my concern is, I would like to pre-record this module with any music or jingle from the PC and leave user the option either to record her/his own message using the attached microphone or let that pre-recorded jingle play. I would use any of this type or similar modules shown on picture. Thanks in advance.

This christmas, many stores in Holland sell nice 'weather stations', even with remote access. But no recording, data logger, no SD card, only transmission of real time signals to the display unit. I myself have great 1960s vintage registering equipment, from the university dumpster. But how many folks can get to that??? Hopefully, someone can figure out how to hack one of these weather stations...

So ive played guitar/bass in the past but have recently switched to drums the past year. I would like to put together a recording system that would allow me to not only record guitar/bass onto my computer but also allow me to output those recordings to their respective amps simultaneously for playback. I have a buddy that plays guitar so would like to jam out with a bass line as well or when he's not around I can jam out to both. Any ideas of equipment /software that might be needed ?

If you're into fishing you might find this report of a new world record breaking large mouth bass from Japan weighing 22 Lbs 5oz. This would beat the long standing, and controversial record of George Perry which has stood for 77 years by one ounce. But the record keepers require that the record be broken by 2 ounces. So Close.

I'm not sure this is the correct category, but I didn't see one specifically for audio endeavors! I know there were early recordings on wax, and later vinyl records, but I wondered if anyone ever went back and made cylinders from vinyl and tried recording on them. Does anyone know where I can find out more about this? I'm be interested in trying to make higher definition recording cylinders for some fun :)
