Not able to Drag to reorder. Answered

The " Drag to reorder " pictures when creating an Instructable in not working. Is the a bug?

Question by WWC   |  last reply

Editor not saving step when reordering

In the editor, for an instructable, a step that would otherwise be automatically saved is NOT when you click 'Reorder steps.' all progress on that step since the last save is lost.

Can't reorder steps and pictures and can't move text boxes

Hello! Ever since the instructables went down a few days ago, I can't use any of the drag features. I can't reorder steps or pictures, and I can't move the little text box captions for photos. I've tried in several different browers, and I've deleted website data, cookies, and other stuff like that. Is this a website problem or something I can fix? Thanks

Remove, Change order of steps method?

Hi all! Resolved I'm working on an instructables ( https://www.instructables.com/id/EBS1PLAHV9HT7JU/ ) and I accidentally added a step. I would also like to switch steps 6 and step 7. How can I do that? Thanks! Also, if you have any general suggestions, please give them! Someone answered my question in the instructables IRC (Internet Relay Chat) -  in the editor I hit view all steps, and there there are little xs to delete steps, and you can drag and drop the steps.

Drag to change order of Pics - how to do ??

When I add several pics to one page of an Instructable, then first one I add becomes the main pic and the others are thumbnails. But it says "drag pics to reorder". I have tried dragging every pic every which way, and for the life of me I cannot get the order to change. Any tips? I am using IE by the way. PCdoc

Feaure Request - moving images

When dealing with images, I cannot do the "drag to reorder" stuff on a touch-sensitive device, such as my phone or tablet*. Since the vast majority of my time online is via one of these two devices, not being able to click & drag images around is a major PITA, having to start up the desk top computer just to move a thumbnail a few pixels... Bearing in mind that most UK internet browsing is done via touch-sensitive devices, and the UK is this site's second-biggest user-base, it would seem sensible to address this issue. *both running Android

How to improve Instructables.com !

Hi, I am web designer so I will be specific. These little things bug me but they must drive crazy those ordinary PC users. It seriously degrades the overall user experience on this web ! Here I will point to current problems and show you how to fix it. All following is about EDIT MODE. Constructive critisism, right ? :) UPLOAD IMAGES I know you are using jQuery UI 1.8.11 on this site. Now there is no indicator IF the file uploads at all and/or in case of bigger file/slower connection how long it needs yet ! You have it already in use, when "updating" small progress bar I saw used in images area. Use following it will do miracles: http://jqueryui.com/progressbar/#animated UPLOAD IMAGES AGAIN :) Put buttons SELECT FILES + UPLOAD FILES side by side ! Imagine adding 20 images the upload button goes down. Do not force user to think let alone to do things extra, hide buttons from him ! Thanks. And not to forget ADD there tiny link sor of button to DELETE ALL IMAGES before uploading. What if you choose by accident wrong folder and upload 20 images you do not want to. Sort of CHECK ALL + DELETE function so you can for instance uncheck those you want to leave there. Thanks. CLOSED WINDOW BY ACCIDENT = SAVE This happens. You edit for a while, close window only to realise content is not saved. Could you implement: * AUTO SAVE function after like 5 mins ? * if NOT saved ! = give him JavaScript pop up with "You have unsaved draft. Do you want to continue or save first ?" * IF SAVED = let user close window, no big deal * if saved = add to left small greyish message Saved ... or the button itself * NEW content = button says SAVE NOW * if saved = itself could go grey and have text SAVED = when content changes, turn it orange again ! * the same functionality that GMAIL uses, it is simple REORDER STEP Biggest pain here ! I can have like 20 steps, want to move 1/2 of them for instance. Let us reorder ALL STEPS simply ! Click on the reorder button and offer, let us reorder, offer us small OK button or some function to toggle the "moving" state back to stationary. ADD STEP + vs. INSERT STEP Enlighten me please if mistaken. Do you realise these 2 buttons EACH NEXT to each other do the EXACTLY same thing ? Delete one :) EDIT AREA FOR TEXT The window is too small. Lenghty steps are pain to write and review on such size. Enable resizing handle the same you already have in forums post edit mode ! ERROR WARNING MESSAGES Get rid of those ugly default JavaScript message windows please. Use this and style it to your web orange :) http://jqueryui.com/dialog/#modal-message http://jqueryui.com/dialog/#modal-confirmation Dear Instructables.com look at screenshots for better reference. Do not let me waste two hours of my time figuring out stuff and writing this post. Thanks :) Best regards -- Krsiak Daniel http://linkedin.com/in/krsiakdaniel

Scholarship idea - Automated Store Inventory Manager

The objective of my project would be to use the Create platform as a mobile platform to help manage inventory in a store like Walmart. The concept would be based on RFID. A reader would be mounted on the robot and it will detect passive tags on the products stacked in the shelves. The mobile platform would autonomously wander around the store after hours, collect and collate data and generate a reorder report at the end of its run, which would in turn be transmitted via RF to a PC. Implementation would be carried out such that it could be ported to a real world scenario. Also, it would ensure that all the stacks have been visited during its run.

How to fix "Please excuse me, that was very impolite!"

Instructables users whose native language is not English may sometimes get this error: "Please excuse me, that was very impolite! Exception javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: ServletException in '/common/newlayout.jspx': Can't insert page '/pages/explore/type/instructable_body.jsp' : ISO-8859-10 blah blah blah to the end of the error page" The solution (or rather a workaround) is to change the order of preffered languages so that english(en-US or en) would be the topmost preffered language. If using Firefox, you should go to Preferences->Content and then reorder preferred languages. On Chrome(or Chromium) you can access the list by clicking on the wrench icon, then Preferences->Under the hood->Change the font and language settings->Language.

Instructable shows my latest reversions sometimes then reverts to old version then back agains

I have a feeling I am doing something wrong since these are my first Instructables. After publishing successfully, I am having the following issues: - I made additional changes to content of Instructables then republished. Sometimes I see the latest version, sometimes it reverts back to previous one. I cleared cache time and again but to no avail, so I am not sure it's the cache.  - I tried to reorder the slides associated with my latest Instructable then saved/published but one slide is stuck in its place and wont move to another location.  - Comments appear then disappear. I am thinking its related to same issue as my first. Not sure.  What am I doing wrong?

Front page change, again.

I see my front page has changed again.  Not as drastic as last time. Now maybe I'm getting too set in my ways, but I like the way the front page was.  It suited me. Now I have the Classes and Feed showing. The Classes I don't mind so much, except that I have to scroll past them to get to Featured which is what I want to look at first. The Feed, well now I get "Your feed is empty! Get more inspiration every day by following your favorite channels." .  YES it is because I don't use it. I don't want to deprive others of features on the front page that they might want, but I would like to have the front page appear for me the way I like. I have asked this last time and I will ask again.  Why can't these front page features be selectable by the member?  Even be able to reorder them?

Slide show updates to a published show don't show up on preview

I am trying to update a slide show but the image captions don't change. I update the image data, save it, then hit the save and preview button - and voila - no change. I go back to edit mode and the changes that I saved are still there. Also, the images don't seem to be all there. I added some to the end and they don't show on the preview. Again, I saved the changes, but in preview mode, the added image doesn't display. The images are saved and I can still see them in edit mode.I published the slide show hoping that would show the changes. It didn't show the first day, but after one day, the changes showed up. This is on my only slideshow.showNot really a bug, but I find the whole drag and drop for reordering the slide pictures very difficult to control accurately. This may work for one page of images, but for larger slideshows it is frustrating to try and move images.BTW - I tried to insert a hyperlink into one of the text boxes on one of my pictures. It saved, but when I went to preview it - the entire box is missing. I went back to edit mode, and the box is gone. I guess you really don't want hyperlinks from text boxes. Thanks
