repairing cellar walls?

We bought a house last year that had some water damage on the cellar walls. Last summer I redid the drainage around the house as I suspected that that was the reason for the damage. I am now setting out to repair the inside damage. I should not that I noticed no damage to the outside walls while redoing the drainage.  The inside wall damage consists of 'blistering' and loose light cement/plaster. The cinder blocks seem to be fine and I have not found mold. I have scraped away the loose stuff and will now patch the holes.  I have been told to use a polymer-based household cement but would like to ask the instructable community for advice.  I basically have to resurface parts fo the walls and patch a few deep holes.  How should I do this? Thank you.

Can replacement jacks be purchased for rock band cymbals?

One of our young kids pulled the wires out of the angle jacks for the cymbals. I bought some jacks at radio shack. The problem is that when I look at the original plugs they seem to have soldered 3 wires to the plug. However there are only 2 wires. Which wires get attached where? I would prefer to buy pre- assembled replacement jacks. Does anyone know of a source to buy replacement jacks?

Watch Repair? Answered

I've recently received an old watch from my mom. It is by the brand Futura, it is a quartz, Japanese movement, steel backing, etc. The winder moves freely and also moves the hands,  but it does not record time. I have tried removing the back to check for a battery and it does not appear to have one. Also, when I remove it the face comes off with the backing. If anyone knows how to fix this it would be amazing because I love this watch and i want to be able to wear it. Thanks!

Repair Stuff

Could Instructables perhaps include the category of REPAIRS. It just occurred to me when saw His Highness, E.W. post the repair of his power saw that there is no place really for this topic. I routinely replace the power cords on all my power tools on purchase with a 5M cable. (the factory cables are always too short and sometimes the plug is just downright weird). Lately I have replaced the bearings in my planer (with 100% success). However I seriously battled with the removal of one of them and did need advice. As a farmer I am constantly repairing stuff and am currently busy vivesecting my old drill and need advice on how to check the various parts for continuity, since smoke came out of it! but don't have a clue where to post though except in offbeat.

How to replace usb ports on ps3?

I had a ylod ps3(past warranty) and attempted to repair it using the ylod oven instructable. It worked, however the usb ports ended up melting during the process. This would not be a problem, as I do not use them much. Unfortunately, you have to have them to sync the controller though. Does anyone know how I can replace the usb ports, or just add more. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tools to get when learning/playing around with electronics???

Hi.   I've recently started making small electronic projects, first starting with a pack I bought from an electronics store that pretty much comes with all I need (resistors, transistors, springs, wires, batteries etc) it's fairly amateurish and for a beginner. But I have some more involved things i would like to start.. and a few little things lying around I would like to play with, take apart and salvage for working parts etc.. So I am at the stage now of wanting/needing tools for jobs. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with a list of things I would need? The electronics repair kits I have found on the internet usually cover computer repair/electronic repair tools for around $80 including screwdrivers, pliers, alligator clips, torch, and soldering iron kit etc... and I have considered buying an all in one kit liked his but if I was too just buy a few things at a time what would be the things I should get first? I'm hoping to over time build up a large collection of quality tools for future long term list so I don't really want anything cheap. And safety is definitely a factor.  If anyone had any idea's or could help that would be great, Thanks. Vulnic

How does one replace cuisinart motor shaft sheath?

I was given a friend's grandmother's  dlc-7 Cuisinart.  The old sheath has the upper half of the side without metal underneath broken off. The plastic is super brittle.  I've gotten a replacement part.  It looks as though the old one should slide off and the new one slide on.  It's not working out that way. We've cleaned off the corrosion on the shaft that's exposed and cleaned up the plastic with paint thinner.  Pulling on the sheath hasn't  worked.  I've considered super gluing the broken piece back on, but would really like to install the new sheath.

Does anyone know what type of glue I can use on the bracket of my drivers side visor? Answered

I have tried super glue and twice jbweld. If I knew what type of plastic it was that may help too. The visor is for a 02 Santa Fe.?  This is not the first time this visor has broken, I had the dealer replace two of them for cracking on the arm part. The first time I used jbweld it didn't do anything so I added more catalyst and it stuck, but as soon as we had some very frigid temps, I moved it and it broke. The whole movement of the arm is plastic upon plastic, not the best system, the tolerance is very small so it increases the friction on the parts and the stick together when it is cold.

Capacitor for DS1813+ Repair

I recently blew a capacitor on my DS1813+ and have no clue what value I can replace it with because I do not have schematic/wiring diagram. The unit seems to function without it,but I'd like to repair the broken part of it if I can.If everything working fine then you've got something here. It would be reasonable that :If it was a regular 0.1uF chip bypass capacitor, then they must have used an 0402 sized component like they have used elsewhere.

Multimeter DIY Repair?

I have a Radio Shack digital multimeter, Model 22-174. Since the 10 Amp measurement circuit is not fused I blew this circuit and that part of the meter does not work now. I like this meter and would like to know if I can DIY repair it and what I need to do. I have looked around the Internet and have not found any information including the Radio Shack site. Was looking for the wiring diagram only found a parts list. I hope that I can fix it. If I can fix it I will fuse the test leads (black lead) or work out an internal fuse for this circuit so I don't repeat my mistake. Any help would be nice. Thank you.

LCD Monitor Repair

Congrats! Instead of throwing away your broken LCD monitor, you've decided to fix it. What do you have too loose by attempting the repair yourself? It's already heading for the trash can or the e-waste center. By repairing it you will probably save from $100 to $200 or more! If you have done any reading at all on the web, you have already discovered that bad capacitors account for a large percentage of all LCD monitor failures. If your monitor flickers when you start it up, the screen is dim, has strange lines on it, clicks, etc., then this information is just for you! The repair does not require any special knowledge or skill. About the only tools you will need are a putty knife, a screwdriver, a pair of pliers and a Radio Shack soldering iron. Without getting into too much technical jargon, there are two main components inside your monitor, the power board which powers the inverter (lights) and video, and the video board. The power supply circuit board must be removed before you can replace the capacitors. You must open your monitor and examine the capacitors on the power supply board. Each monitor will have a power supply circuit board. Each monitor model will have a slightly different board. They all look about the same. Some have more capacitors, some have less. Most all LCD monitors have a large 400v capacitor. These rarely go bad. There's a video at www.youtube.com/watch that shows you how to disassemble a Viewsonic monitor, and install new capacitors. This is a great video! There's also a good tutorial that shows how to completely disassemble a Samsung 204T LCD Monitor. It's a step by step guide, which also includes a "how to solder" video. Although this tutorial is for a Samsung 204T LCD monitor, the information found here can be applied to almost any monitor. Between the YouTube video on the Viewsonic monitor and the tutorial you should have no problem installing new capacitors in your LCD monitor. Good Luck!

Power Tool Repair

I have an old Bosch electric drill (CSB 420E) which has started behaving strangely: Its speed has dropped greatly, and it sparks so much I could turn the lights off and still see what I'm doing. I suspect a fault in the armature or field coil, but they both look OK. Brushes seem ok as well. Any ideas? I'm reluctant to junk it because I am too mean to buy a new one.

Cell Phone Repair?

Recently my girlfriends cell phone broke. The On/Off button still works, but none of the other buttons work. It still can receives phone calls, and text messages, but only one button works. The other day a couple of the other buttons worked briefly, but they went back to not working after a couple of minutes. I think its a problem in the phones wiring. Before I go opening up the cell phone, I was wondering if anyone has any advise or any experience working with cell phones, that might be helpful.

CEILING FAN REPAIR

This could become an instructable, but these days, juggling photo files from cell phone to email to comp to ibles is so dang cumbersome..    anyway, this is how i fixed ceiling fan. fan has a rubber plate between motor and blades. apparently a bit of wiggle room for blades is a desirable thing. but that rubber plate was cracking. the fan blades had begun to hang low and drag against the light fixture below em. so i removed the lights that hang below fan. removed all 5blades,  blasted dust off rubber plate with compressed air, and used used gel superglue from loctite brand to glue cracks in rubber plate. i specifically got glue in a tube, not a bottle, since ihad to apply it upwards.  i never removed fan motor from ceiling, so, the work was overhead. the glue says its good for rubber, and so far, it has held up. the fan is reassembled, and working again.

I may need to replace the part and solder a new one in..I personally do not know how to do that but I know someone who can. I just don't know where I could pick up a new part...any ideas?

repair of belt sander

I have borrowed a belt sander from a friend to do a job........ and the sanding belt broke and stuck on the roller. I eventually managed to get it out. I've tried to remove the sanding belt, but it's sticking on the end of the roller that didn't work. Any ideas on what might be wrong please? It's looking at the moment as though I'm going to have to go out and buy a new one!! Any help would be gratefully received!
