I've been thinking, which, for me is strange. What's stranger, i've been thinking about saving the planet. I don't believe that global warming is solely the fault of man and his machines, nor do i believe that we're all going to fry in a ten-thousand year summer, but that's not the point of this forum, and i'd appreciate no comments labelling me as a communist, or a planet-hater. What i had in mind is a new system of lighting. Say i took some LEDs (lets say 16) and connected them in paralell, and attatched them to the appropriate power source, would they be more or less efficient than a tungsten filament lamp? As for aesthetic considerations, to simulate natural sunlight during winter months, one could add blue or yellow LEDs to tune the shade of the light. Would this idea be more efficient than the lights we have? (i avoided mentioning those energy-efficient lights because they're not really that efficient, and give crap light.)

Well, got an old Dell Inspiron 8600 and if you've read any of my other questions you know all about it and its problems. Anyway... the cover for the point stick (mouse thing in the center of the keyboard) needs to be replaced, but this being my first laptop, I'm not quite sure how to do it. Personally I just want to pull it off with a some pliers and jam a new one on, but I don't want to break it either.... so I'm exercising alittle caution by asking first.... is there a specific way to do it, or is my way just about right? Thanks

Hi, I have what can only be described as a "no-name" laptop sitting in the bottom of a drawer. Among other things it has a missing "G" key. The problem is I have absolutely no clue how to replace the key - I'm not going to pay for a whole new keyboard and the key + "springy bit" is long since gone. The only branding I can find is "Clevo M300N". I was hoping to buy a broken laptop and cannibalise it (there are other hardware issues, but the keyboard is driving me nuts) Can anyone give me a shove in the right direction here? (Sorry for rambling) Edit: UPDATE - I found the key, all I need now is some kind of spring or membrane to fix it right up!

Do you think it would be possible to substitute a variable resistor and a normal capacitor for a variable capacitor? The way I figure it is that a variable capacitor is supposed to adjust how fast said capacitor charges and discharges, wouldn't a variable resistor and a normal capacitor also function like this? I'm working on an idea for a small am radio, and looking to substitute these parts. Could it work? Thanks

So i made a laser alarm system some time back, it worked good but had one fault, more like a limitation. it made the buzzer ''buzz'' only when the laser was interrupted and the buzzer turned off when the laser was allowed to hit the photo sensor again. i wanted it to stay on until turned off by a switch. someone suggested something called a monostable flip flop but i had no idea what it even meant, then i saw something called silicon controlled rectifier or a thyristor, but i also learned that they have to be made using a pnp and npn transistor, what i cant understand is what transistors should i use to replace the npn transistor on my circuit, the tansistor on my cicuit is 2n3904, input voltage is 5v

I have pretty much no knowledge of electrical circuits and so I need of bit of help. I know two AA's is 3v and any lithium battery is 3.2v, how could I step the battery down to 3v?

The situation:I (will) have a disc of plywood roughly 20cm across. I need to cut a spiral notch in the ply, from edge to centre, around 3mm wide, so that I can hold a spiral of flexible ply in place and close off the end of the spiral at the same time. The perfect tool for the job is, of course, a router. The problem:I don't have a router.Short of buying a router just for this one job, what can I do to cut the notch?Plus:I've been saying "plywood" - is there another material that can be shaped the same way?

I have a 2006 Mini Baja Minibike(http://www.bajamotorsports.com/categories/minibikes/products/WR65_baja-warrior-mini-bike) with more than a few problems. As of now, it won't even start, and I can't find the problem. I've cleaned anywhere that fuel goes, air filter, exhaust, and adjusted the carb, it still doesn't start. When it was running, it didn't even idle. So I'm wondering, would an engine swap with this: http://www.harborfreight.com/engines-generators/gas-engines/212-cc-ohv-horizontal-shaft-gas-engine-epa-69730.html engine work? It seems almost identical; but I"m not sure.

Hi there, I'm currently using a DPDT switch to toggle between power sources (gray dots) I'd like to replace this with a relay, I've added blue dots to my drawing to show (how I think) that should look. Is this correct? My main concern is if I should take the coil resistance into account. What kind of relay would you recommend? Would any 12V 2A relay work? Kind regards, Niellles P.s. the 560 ohm resistor is on the other side of the led...

Does anybody know an inexpensive way to replace the surface foil on an electric razor? I think it's called foil anyway; it's the metal part that contacts the skin and is a mesh of small holes for beard hair to pass through. The raw foil stock must be relatively cheap to fabricate; maybe there is a way to get a sheet of it and put it on the original frame from the shaver. Most replacements are almost the price of a whole new shaver. And I haven't even found a replacement for my modified, ancient Braun system 123. After the shaver died I resurrected it and made it solar powered by tearing out the charge circuitry and batteries and replacing them with two batteries and a diode that plugs into a small solar panel from a garden light. This worked perfectly for years until the foil wore through last week.

Hello all! I just wanted to see what sort of foods i could replace the nori or seaweed sheets in sushi. Nori never sits well with me and give me terrible headaches as well as stomachaches, probably to do with the high salt content but that is just speculation. I love sushi, but it would be soooo much better if I could replace the nori with something that wont wreck my evening. Any thoughts?

I have succesfully replaced the laser in my wii... sort of. When I put a disc in to try, the wii could read it but once i clicked "play", it would sit there and make an odd sort of clicking noise like something was trying to move but couldn't. Earlier when putting the disc drive back into the wii, a spring a little less than a centimeter popped out but I ahve no idea where it came from. Could this be the problem? And if so, where does it go?
