Comment Rating and User Reputation System

I use the website Paleohacks.com pretty much every day, and they have a pretty cool rating system that I think would work well here on Instructables. On Paleohacks.com, every new topic and new comment has an up an down arrow next to it. If you think its a good/cool/helpful topic  you click the up arrow. I don't know how useful this option would be in relation to the instructable itself other than to provide a user based ranking system in addition to editor selected featured Instructables, but it would be extremely useful for comments. Instructables should consider adding this option to comments. The more "up votes" the comment has, the more useful, on point or humurous (typically). Original comment threads are organized on the page by their number of upvotes. (of course, responses to those comments logically, go beneath them) This would be helpful if someone WAY at the bottom posts a comment that is extremely helpful and might otherwise get lost. On Paleohacks, in order to up-vote you just click the up arrow next to the person's comment.  To down-vote, on the other hand, you MUST comment on why you down-voted, and your name appears with your comment, so everyone knows you down-voted. The only reason people get down-voted is if they post mean or rude comments so its a great way to keep things friendly. No one wants to get down-voted.  The number of up votes you receive appears next to your name. For every up-vote on a topic or comment you post, you get 10 reputation points. There are people on Paleohacks who are super active and very knowledgeable whose reputation points are in the thousands.  I think this would take care of the problem user eNGame spoke of here: https://www.instructables.com/community/Pro-Instructables-Accounts/ when he/she said: "Is a PRO account available without the PRO badge being attached to the subscribers avatar? I feel in my case that having a PRO badge would be something akin to buying a $5 Phd in brain surgery from a backstreet vendor in Bangkok. Thanks." The reputation points serve us better because people who are really helpful or knowledgeable have really high reputation numbers. PRO just means you paid for a membership and that you support and value Instructables.  Go look at paleohacks.com and check out their rating system. I think it would do well here. Sometimes I find myself reading a comment here and going to click to upvote it and then remembering instructables doesn't have that feature.

What is the most reputable, realistic way to sell photos.?

I am not a famous photogropher, but I do enjoy photography and have accumulated a pretty good collection of decent photographs over the years.  I've heard some hype about online stock photo selling, but the majority of it has that 'get rich quick' scam type feel to it.  I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with selling thier photos and would be willing to give me a bit of advice.  Thanks :-)

Merit Badges for the Proudly Nerdy

Yes, I was a girl scout. And NO ONE in my troupe had more merit badges than me.I miss those beautifully embroidered circles of majesty, medallions of my skills and talents, proudly decorating my bright green sash for the world to interpret. Well honey, those days are not over. Thanks to BOING BOING for turning me on to the "ORDER OF THE SCIENCE SCOUTS OF EXEMPLARY REPUTE AND ABOVE AVERAGE PHYSIQUE" http://www.scq.ubc.ca/order-of-the-science-scouts-of-exemplary-repute-and-above-average-physique/ and Nerd Merit Badges,http://www.nerdmeritbadges.com/ with their specialty-themed badges. By the nature of my work, I have to prepare daily reports in MS Word format.

But the last time I unsuccessfully edited the report directly on the flash drive, and this led to a terrible problem for me and my work. Now the interface shows me only about the error when opening. There is nothing more to do with the document. It is important for me to solve the problem earlier than technical support will do. I need lost information to continue working without loss of business reputation.

Malware from the Ads?

I was browsing through Ibles' with Chrome, and it suddenly gave me a warning page telling me that: "The website www.instructables.com appears to contain elements from the site resolvenews.in, which appears to host malware". It's Imagine that it's from the ads because I visited the same page just seconds before, and when I went back to it I got the warning, hinting that something changed which was probably the ads. This really needs to be dealt with pronto, because we don't want anyone thinking Ibles' hosts malware when it's a totally reputable site. By the way, I put this in bugs because I wasn't sure where it should go.

WHY?

Why is the home page always changing format?  It looks more ridiculous every time! I remember when I first joined how their was two collums of different instructables.  This format was easy to sort though and you didn't have to look through all the stuff you DIDNT want to see and you could click on the vast variety of things you DID want to see.  Today when I logged on there is only one column of things and I cant even sort out what is recent and what is featured.  Please change the format back instructables robot. It is a lot simpler and looks more professional. EB

UK Mini Maker Faire - The Derby Silk Mill - New Poster to Share!

Seems that the folks at Nottingham Hackspace (Nottinghack) and some new folks called Derby Makers are putting on a Mini Maker Faire bang in the middle of the UK, on Sunday the 3rd of June. We've just put up some cash to help things along and will be attending. Who's with us? The Mini Maker will be held at the Silk Mill, which is reputed to be oldest factory in the UK, and up until recently was an industrial museum. It's still part of the museums trust and has some fantastic exhibits inside (Rolls Royce Merlin engine is my favourite!) which will be nestled alongside all manner of makers. So are you coming? If not why not? http://makerfairederby.wordpress.com/

Notes on specific laws - the Third Law

Third LawAs the level of civility approaches absolute zero, the uselessness of an exchange of posts approaches infinity. There are many threads which are started in good humour - seeking information, looking for an intelligent discussion, or passing on a humorous tidbit. Most of them carry on in the same vein, but, occasionally, people get carried away. Discussion becomes argument, argument becomes name-calling. Tempers fray, feelings get hurt, reputations damaged. We've all seen it, or even been there.Eventually, when a thread begins to descend into the mire, it actually swamps all the original good it might have done.Such a thread must be walked away from. Wash your hands of a troll before you get dragged too deep. Abandon it to the fate of the the Second Law, before you waste too much precious bandwidth.

Vital things to know before and after opening and Etsy shop

Imagine you have been selling on Etsy for years (in our case 4 years), and suddenly they shut down your store(s) without a legitimate reason and without you breaking any rule. After you have spent a lot of time building your customer base, reputation, etc this is utterly traumatic in every aspect you can think of. We made this parody video reflecting our experience and that of many others who have suffered at the hands of Etsy. It's intended to educate those who have no idea about some of the ill practices they carry out and bring a bit of laughter to those already affected. More info published by the Daily Dot

LED Project Help?

I am working on a project and I would like to build the following item: A single (but bright enough to be seen from a distance) LED light powered by a battery pack that can be either A) programmed and remotely controlled to either be off, flashing at a steady rate, or solid or B) have a reliable enough receiver that I could stand at a distance and manually turn it off and on to simulate flashing.   ALTERNATIVELY A set of two LEDs, side by side, one of which flashes at a constant rate and the other stays solid.  Again, they would have to be battery powered and remote controllable from a distance. I  have a fair amount of wiring and electronics experience, but minimal experience wiring LEDs.  Is there any advice/resources recommended to help me finish this project?  I also have access to several reputable electronic parts stores, so most supplies should be easily located.

The Portsmouth Sinfonia - (the sound of metal-scraping against metal...)

Once again I'm browsing coudal.com and I find something interesting. T'internet says: The Portsmouth Sinfonia was a real orchestra founded by a group of students at Portsmouth School of Art in Portsmouth, England, in 1970 — however, the Sinfonia had an unusual entrance requirement. Players had to be either non-musicians, or if a musician, play an instrument that was entirely new to them. Among the founding members was one of their teachers, English composer Gavin Bryars. The orchestra started as a one-off, tongue-in-cheek performance art ensemble but became a cultural phenomenon over the following ten years, with concerts, record albums, a film and a hit single. The impact of the Portsmouth Sinfonia was considerable and their name and reputation has endured even though they last performed publicly in 1979. But listen to 'em... And the rest. E.g. Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy And Satisfaction (Stones)

Which online trading site should I use? ETrade or TDAmeritrade?

I am a novice investor and I need to make a little more cash  (day job isn't paying all the bills). I would like to not have to use a paypal account. I have chosen these two to choose from because they are reliable, reputable and they are in my price range. I am leaning more towards etrade but tdameritrade has the immediate option of adding your routing number to your checking account. Anyways I just want to see if anyone here uses either and which one is the best for basic stock trading and money making? Also if you have better ideas for me to make a little money online please let me know because I'm just a bit desperate for cash right now. Thank you AB

Coffins, bedstead and idiot rescued by lifeboat.

Sometimes I wonder how we earned our reputation as a seafaring nation... A DIY sailor had to be rescued by the Lyme Regis coastguard and lifeboat after taking to the sea in a DIY yacht consisting mainly of two coffin-sized plywood boxes and an iron bed frame. The anonymous man had spent several days on the beach, lashing his vessel together.  It was so obviously unseaworthy that the coastguard and lifeboat crews warned him not to put to sea. Unfortunately, he did put to sea off Charmouth.  On an out-going tide in an offshore breeze. Within yards, onlookers had to call emergency services, and the lifeboat insisted on towing the (for want of a better word) boat back to the beach.  The captain had been unable to make headway against the breeze with his home-made oars... I've got to wonder... how many of our own authors have been in a similar situation? (You get all the serious news in the Daily Mail...)

UPDATED What Airguns Do You Own/Recommend?

I ended up getting a Crosman Vantage. It was on sale for $70. I think the MSRP is $145. Yeah, I know, it's just a budget springer. But that was what I was looking for. Not something to last me the rest of my life. It has a good reputation for decent accuracy if you use the artillery hold. With 7.9 grain pellets it should be getting about 900 +/- FPS. It came in the mail the other day. Pyramid air has fast shipping. The wood is acceptable, and the barrel lock up is very solid and their is practically no barrel droop. I haven't shot it yet, but the barrel is very easy to cock for a sub magnum springer. Of course I only cocked it 80% of the way and I don't want to dry fire it. I have some Crosman Premier Hollow Points to try in it, as well as some cheap pointed pellets and destroyers I'll use to break it in. I think it will be fine for tin can killing. Not sure it's the best hunting implement, since the included scope is meh.

Very Frustrated - Instructable Won't Publish!?!

Okay, so I'm a professor and I have a nice project to publish.  For a first time user of this site, I'm thoroughly frustrated with the lack of detailed feedback when something is wrong.  I would fix it if it would tell me.  Usually I just walk away thinking that the thing is simply not worth the time, but the reputation of this site gives me repose to try to find out why. My instructable was saved and shows up in my drafts.  Great. I hit publish and it goes to a page to request keywords and category.  Great. I put a minimum of 2 keywords and select a category.  Great. I press "yes, publish my instructable" and the page refreshes, clearing everything I've entered. After doing this ten times with no other results or feedback of what the problem is, I find myself writing this topic in hopes somebody knows why.  Whatever the answer is to this dilemma, its kind of ironic that the instructable site is so lacking in basic feedback when there is a problem.. Oh well, I hope you understand my frustration.

Help figuring out what do use...

Hey folks, this is my first post in the community area, I hope I'm posting in the right area. So here it is...I would like to build a little control panel for my kid for fun with a bunch of switches, knobs, and dials mounted on it. Just something to help boost his imagination when playing with his little Micro Machines. I'd like each knob, dial, etc to light up (if featured on that item) and for them all to play a particular sound when manipulated. So my question is, where do I start, and what do I start with in order to make this thing? I don't know if I should learn to program with Arduino or with a Raspberry Pi to get this thing moving. I'd like to mount an audio jack on the outside of the panel that I can hook to my stereo for higher quality sounds from the board. Also, I'm open to paying someone with a good reputation here to do the software and electronics part of this project for me. I'd basically send you the panels with the switches mounted on it. But the price would have to be appropriate for this to happen.  Thank you for looking, and your input guys/gals.

Anyone know of a quality wireless switch for a light approx 70 feet away on a shed in backyard?

I would like to have an outdoor light on my backyard shed/ shop, which I would like to be able to turn on and off from inside my home, which is about 70 feet away. I know that wireless switches are made, but I can't seem to find a good quality, reliable, reputable brand. The only ones I have been able to find on the internet are not getting the best reviews, such as Heath Zenith sold at Home Depot, etc.. Does anyone know of a brand they could recommend? Price isn't really an issue, to keep from having to run wire out there if I can avoid it. Thank you. P.S.- I did think briefly about just using a motion detector, but that would only come on if there is motion, and that doesn't fit my needs. What I need is to be able to turn it on if, for example, I hear something out there and I need to look out of my back window and turn it on to be able to see what might be going on out there, if anyone is trying to break in, etc..

Instructable SPAM combat

I looked around a bit in the forums and didn't see anything on this topic, but I may not have looked far enough... I keep tabs on Instructables.com by watching my RSS feed, and I'm frequently annoyed by seeing blatant SPAM coming up in the feed.  Usually SPAM instructables have a photo/video with hyperlinks to an external site, and they're the very first published instructable under an account that was created only hours (or minutes) earlier. Is there a way that new accounts would be put on probation, requiring that their first instructable pass the sniff-test before being published in the RSS feed or elsewhere?  Perhaps long-established or trusted members with good karma / reputation (yes, borrowing concepts from other sites here) would have the privilege of giving a thumbs-up to non-spam instructables? Now, I'm not suggesting that this be a complex moderation system or that the instructable even be halfway decent -- just that it's not blatant spam.  If a first-time publisher posts spam, they get a thumbs-down with a boilerplate explanation of why their post isn't in the RSS feed.  They continue to be on probation until they post their first non-spam Instructable. Now, of course I realize that logged-in members to Instructables have the ability to hit the "SPAM" flag on an instructable, but in my opinion the damage has already been done.  At the very least, these users can be directed to the Marketplace forums.   I look forward to your constructive criticism. :)

Javascript auto currency convertor

Just a quick idea that I think would greatly improve the functionality of instructables. We've a lot of different users from many countries. I find it interesting while reading 'ibles what they cost to make and it is a question that's asked a lot in the comments. As a UK resident I post my answers/questions in GBP which I can imagine must annoy the hell out of US users. Would it be difficult to allow users to check a box in their profile to enable auto currency conversion? With the box ticked, all values in comments and instructables would be checked for the £ and $ signs. The code would then look at the value after the sybol and then check it against a reputable currency converter (google?) and then parse the value as a link. Hovering over this link would produce a tooltip (like the pale yellow boxes you see when you hover over the programs listed in the task bar in windows.... go on, I know you don't know what I mean but will just check.... oh yes.... those) that shows the converted value. Taking this one step further, people's profiles could allow them to specify the currency they want all monetary values to be shown in and the tool tips would show these accordingly. Does this make sense? I hope I've explained it well enough. Does anyone else see this as a potentially valuable feature? Possibly open to pros?

To be or not to be upset

So, with recently finding out that tons of people's instructables had been published without their permission on a paid subscription site, I decided to google my username and see if anything came up. This is obviously something everyone should do from time to time, and I figured it was time to give it another go. In the image search, I found an image I didn't recognize and clicked until I found the source of the connection to my username. A seemingly reputable website has written an article on one of my ibles. At first, I was excited. It was cool that someone saw my work and thought it cool enough to write about it. However, that joy turned to turmoil when I realized that the article wasn't a short description accompanied by one or two images. It is a full rehash of my ible. Basically, anyone that sees the article can follow the links to my version (there are several), but the author of the article has really not given them any reason to do so. They've taken most of my images to re-write my ible without asking or notifying me. They didn't break the CC license by writing their own version, but I believe they did when they took all my images.  What do you think? Would you be upset and ask them to change or remove the article, or chalk it up to promotion and be excited to see your work spread? By the way, there have only been 138 hits on my ible from that website. The article My ible

My computer isn't working, anyone know why? Answered

I would like to know this for informational purposes next time I open up my PC just to fix a few hardware problems. One of the RAM chips on my PC didn't want to work, so I decided to open it up and clean the contacts (which were covered in enough dirt to stop all connections). So I did so, and when I put it all back in and booted it up, all I see on my LCD screen was nothing, absolutely nothing. I tried reseating the video card. I tried reseating the RAM chips. The only thing I didn't try was to clear the CMOS memory, but I was afraid it would make things worse since I have a tendency to touch other components. For all I know it can't be the CMOS memory, but I can't be sure. I do know I accidentally touched the video card out of nowhere (no ESD). That video card I touched has a reputation of taking more than 10 attempts at it to make it work, so I might have moved the contacts out of place, so I reseated it. It still doesn't want to work. I do know that my dad knows the problem, so don't tell me to bring it to a computer repair shop which will raise the price needlessly anyway. According to the LED's at the front, the CPU is going at it. I just want to know what to do and what not to do (aside from the usual ground yourself, don't touch other components drill) so that I don't mess it all up all over again. I'll go have another shot at restarting this... Might be the cable from the monitor to the PC...

Good place to get really good LEDs?

I have recently discovered that CREE has released some new XHP class LEDs awhile ago, and compared the the XML line that I have been a fan of, these ones seem to blow those out of the water. However, they are still somewhat $$$, although not too much. I would like to get my grubby evil hands on a few of the XHP70s, XHP50's, and XHP35s, but the "good" ones are out of stock on mouser and digikey. On amazon there are a few listings but they are overpriced and they do not list the binning or CRI of them. Any other reputable LED sellers? I want to see how well these would work to retrofit into either an existing el-cheapo XM-L flashlight as an upgrade, or a homemade lantern/portable floodlight. I basically want 80% or 90% CRI range and Neutral / warm white, preferably neutral. As you see I am not overly picky, but I want them for good usable indoor light quality. I have been impressed by the XML light output, but not the 6000K 70% CRI crap quality light like the ones I have produce. These LEDs are roughly twice as bright for the same physical size, and about ~30-50% more efficient. What I do want, however, is the highest binning available in it's class (aka the best ones.) Not for any particular reason (other than maybe bragging rights lol), but because I just can't bring myself to order comparatively less efficient ones with low/medium CRIs for pretty much the same basic price when I know damn good and well there are better ones for sale for only pennies more. Feels like I get cheated. :( Also if I order from mouser or digikey, I guess that means I would need to mount them to a star PCB myself, that might be a challenge. Since I do not have solder paste or a proper reflow oven, I prefer to not have to do that.

Site improvement suggestion (we need meta-categories too, btw)

I have a feature request/suggestion for instructables.com.My suggestion would be to provide a menu bar option (where "Explore", "Groups", "Forums", and "Contribute" are currently) for a user of the site to suggest and request a type of instructable, and provide information about what they'd like to see.I feel that this will provide a number of benefits, and virtually no drawbacks. I will attempt to list a sampling of both if I can... I'm going to begin a couple of terminology conventions to make my idea easier to write out. From here on out, I'm going to refer to REQUESTORS as people that have an idea for an instructable that they either would like someone to pick up and do from beginning to end, or possibly a little assistance on an instructable that they've began and have a stumbling block that they need help with. I'm going to refer to WRITERS as people who write up an instructable, simple as that.-- This will allow people one central location to ask this terrific community for help with an idea that they've got in mind.-- It would serve in a way similar to the "want it" option on ebay does... Only to create a marketplace of ideas. Currently on Instructables, there seems to be, at least in a small way, a reputation system where the quality and quantity of your instructables may be a source of pride and mutual respect for the users. Some WRITER may be looking for ideas to write up, whether from beginning to end, or help solve someone else's stumbling block. They go out to the requests page (or even do a search for it) and see if anything strikes his or her interest.-- If you think about it, a lot of the biggest and best user contributed sites are successful based on the workflow organization, and how efficient they are (wikipedia comes to mind). This idea would further increase the efficiency of instructables.com, allowing for larger rates of growth. I'm not going to place value judgments on growth for growth's sake, but that's for the people that provide this great site to consider and decide for themselves.-- It would help clean out the forum a bit.-- I guess it could also help tip the balance in the "marketplace of ideas" that I mentioned before. Right now in instructables, it's not always easy to tell what a user has to bring to the table in a discussion unless they've got a few instructables out there to judge. If you have a request system, you could look at what kinds of things they ask, and get to know them a little better that way.--in my opinion, one of the biggest neat benefits would be the additional opportunity for isolated users to connect with others who are interested in the same types of things as they may be (or you, or me). This would enhance the learning environment, the sense of community, and benefit everyone.Negatives:--additional complexity--frivolous requests (like that never happens now, right?)--time and expense for implementation--site aesthetics, maybe?I'm certain that my idea could use some tinkering, but that's kinda the spirit of this site, isn't it? I already have some ideas about this along the fringes, but I'd rather wait and see if this gets any kind of response.

Need a cheap dual-output, center tapped, 180VA 18V 5A transformer?

I am trying to design a nice dual-rail lab power supply and need a cheap dual-output, center tapped, 180VA 18V 5A transformer. The outputs are as follows: Primary: 120V Secondary 1:  9V-0-9V, @ 5A max. Secondary 2:  9V-0-9V, @ 5A max. ======================OR==================== Primary 120V Secondary 1:  9V, @ 5A max. Secondary 2:  9V, @ 5A max. Secondary 3:  9V, @ 5A max. Secondary 4:  9V, @ 5A max. I prefer a transformer for the linear regulator over a switching preregulator, because a switching preregulator sort of defeats the whole purpose of making a nice, high precision, low-noise lab instrument. However, I also prefer to have more than just 2 separate 18V outputs, since that means when the output is shorted and constant current mode kicks in for either the positive or negative rail, I will have a voltage drop of 18V, at a maximum current of 5A, and thats over 90W of power dissipation!!! I think that I can deal with that if thats the only solution, since I am planning on using a large CPU active heatsink for cooling, but I prefer if I was not pushing a TO-247 device to it's thermal limits. I have found this: http://www.antekinc.com/as-2218-200va-18v-transformer/ It is affordable, but it seems strangely cheaper than a lot of other toroidal Xformers on the market. Also, the 2 primaries are not center tapped. It is 200VA though! I have never heard of that company, and it seems like the description of it is written in chinglish. They act like the fact that they over-engineered and under-specced it is a feature (to me, thats how all ratings should be, that should be normal and standard, not a feature.). I have also found this: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/36-6/36-6-ND/1984766 It would be perfect, but it is $80!!! Very expensive, Also, I do not think it is a nice toroidal transformer, not that that matters much to be, I just like the professional look of a beefy toroidal transformer inside a power supply. Lastly, I have found this: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Hammond-Manufacturing/1182G18/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMvwUzoUXIIvySPCJQuQgm7bYNfLdl9rdUYluBT2%2f%252bFqzw%3d%3d It seems to be very similar to the first find, and it is from a reputable distributor. At $70 it is still expensive, and I do not want to spend over $100 for a homemade power supply. I would just get a off-the-shelf solution for that! What about the possibility of modifying a MOT transformer? How many VA or watts can I expect from the output without active cooling? I know they are rated from upwards to 1000W, but I also know they cannot sustain that power output for a long time without overheating and requiring lots of active cooling, and from what I remember, I believe the core is really being pushed into saturation during normal operation, leading to LOTS of power loss in the transformer core, but can they output 180VA continuously and effectively? Approximately how many turns of wire would I need to achieve my requirements, and what gauge wire should I use? I am thinking 20AWG but someone who has done that before would know better than me.

S2 Bolt Action Pistol Review

When joined Ibles, I knew that I didn't have any guns ready to upload, so, I decided to post some reviews, being that I already had some  guns built. The S2 pistol by  Sharir1701 seemed to be a logical choice, so I grabbed some blue rods did a little bit of testing. Please realize that even though I have just joined the site, I have a wide range of experience with knex guns, such as the ZKAR, TR8, Racker Rifle, and many of Red Book of Westmarch's replicas. In this review I am not going to do the ratings on a scale of one to ten, because Knex guns differ so much. Say you have a gun that shoots 70 feet. You give it a eight out of ten, because that is great range. However, the SRV3 shoots 500 feet, so 70 feet is NOT eight out of ten any more. Due to that, a truly honest review would rate even very nice guns quite low, due to the fact something will probably is better. If you don't understand this, that is OK, because I do, and I am the one writing the review. Also note that this one has Sharir's pin guide holder thingy. Anyway, let's jump right into the review! RANGE:  Frankly, this gun does not live up to Sharir's claim of 100+ feet. I only got 65-70 angled using two size 117 bands, which is still great range for any gun. Sharir says that it will only get that range with three bands. Sometime ago, I used 3 and did not 100 feet. I don't remember what exactly I got with three, but I am sure it didn't get past 75-80 feet. RELIABILITY: This is one of the gun's good points. Knex bolt actions don't have a great reputation for being reliable, but the S2 works nice and smooth. When I decided to review the pistol, I thought it would be nice to test the reliability and give ya'll the numbers. Here they are. I put the gun through two hundred rounds, and it had: 3 failures to fire, 4 failures to load, the pin guide broke twice, the bolt broke once, and the chambering rod popped out of the bolt twice. Now this sounds REALLY bad. However, the pin guide issues, the chambering rod issues and the failures to load were my fault.  The pin guide and chambering rods broke when I was jerking the bolt back too vigorously, and the rounds that wouldn't load were because I was manually  chambering the round, instead of having a return band chamber it. after I added the band, no trouble. ROF: Now this is one part I didn't really test. It charges slower then a ZKAR, but faster then most pin guns. It is good enough for most uses in a Knex war. COMFORT: Pretty comfortable. The handle is quite good, and I think it would be even better for someone with larger hands then mine. The problem is that there is not really a good place for your other hand to go except for the magazine, which doesn't make the best handle. To be truthful, it is kinda awkward to hold. It is too big for a pistol, but doesn't have a stock like a rifle. (Ok, you COULD use the pin guide holder as a stock, but it doesn't work that well) CUT PARTS: The gun is fine when it comes to these. There are several recommend, but you only need one cut gray rod for the chambering rod. ALL IN ALL: This is an awesome gun. not too many pieces,  looks kinda cool, and is fairly accurate. The ammo is blue rods, and i have a couple hundred of those, so it works great for me. Range seems about right, and it is very fun to shoot. In a war it would do pretty good, but the ammo is hard to find in the grass. The mag is a bit small, holding around 13 rods due to the mag pusher taking up quite a bit of space in the mag. This, a TR8, and a ZKAR would make a fine war arsenal.

Only read this if you are a kind person. Thank you.

Thank you for taking time to read this post. I realize it is rather long. If you are not a patient person, you may wish to simply skip reading this.I live in Washington DC and am looking to purchase something very specific, preferably from a reputable online retailer. I am a simple person, without any formal education. I know nothing about electronics or engineering. I hope you can be patient with those facts. I have no tools, no skills, no money, no knowledge.I'm searching for something that has been surprisingly difficult to find. Please, if you haven't got anything constructive to comment about this post, would you please just not say anything? Life is already difficult enough without negative words or sarcasm. Perhaps you might know of other internet consumer bulletin boards/forums that might be better places to ask this question? There don't seem to be very many at all.I am well aware that most modern cell phones easily fill the requirements that I am about to describe. Unfortunately, this item is needed for elderly people who are very suspicious of and dislike all things new. They violently refuse to accept a cell phone.Even if perfect, it's going to be a battle to get them to try it or use what I am searching for.So. Here we go. Maybe I can't find ALL the features, but here is what I am hoping to find:This needs to be a digital timer that can be set to go off at a minimum of six different times in one twenty four hour period, regularly. It has to have both an audible alarm and a strong vibration, and it has to be switchable between these two. Even better if it also flashes or lights up when the alarm goes off, and that also has to be optional, switchable. Very good if the strength of the sound or vibration can be adjusted easily.Should have a belt clip, preferably made out of metal, not cheap plastic.Should have a place where a neck rope could be easily attached and detached.Should have buttons that can be locked, so that no accidental changes by accidental bumping will occur.Should be water resistant. I'm talking about it being able to take a splash from a sink, not something to withstand being taken in the shower.Should also function as a typical normal digital watch with calendar feature. should be SWITCHABLE between calendar and clock view, so that all letters and numbers are as LARGE as physically possible, not all crammed on one tiny screen.Display should be larger than a normal watch, but the overall device must be small enough that a senior would not be upset to wear it around the neck or put it in a pocket, such as a normal shirt pocket.Great if it includes a strong LED flashlight feature, something with an on/off button, NOT a button that you have to hold the button down every second that you want the light to beam.Display should either be always back lit or at least have a button that will make the display light up without having to hold that button down the entire time you want it back litGreat if it came with a DVD of instructions with video, not a flimsy booklet with tiny letters written by someone who can't correctly speak English. It must run on batteries that can be purchased at any national retail chain, such as WalMart or Target. Fine if it has a very long life rechargeable battery built in, but not so fine if that battery is welded in so that it deliberately cannot ever be replaced.Good if it is able to run on the type of rechargeable replaceable batteries such as Nickle Metal Hydride or one of the others, without damage to the device. If it MUST be a plug into the wall rechargeable type, the cable cannot be a tiny pain in backside USB cable, it should be very simple and EASY for someone with arthritis and bad eyesight to plug in, perhaps with a charging cradle dedicated for the purpose, which can just be left plugged in somewhere. The charging device should have bright clear LED lights showing both that the device is currently charging as it should be, and another light that will FLASH to indicate it is now fully charged.Should sell for a price that a person that worked a lower middle class life and now barely gets by on Social Security could afford to buy. This device is not for me, if that matters at all. It is for people I care about.

5 Things I Like About the Blackberry Torch—And a Few I Don't

Is the Blackberry Torch much better than an apple iphone ? No, but right here are the explanations why it is good sufficient for me personally . Research moving amazed us a week back if this delivered a Blackberry Torch review device . Evidently , the organization sent many of them . It appears as though individuals at Edge are greater than a small anxious concerning the marketplace wedding reception for this telephone and it is general probabilities for achievement . I do not fault them. This polarizing item has evaluations which are mostly free of charge yet others which are currently phoning the Blackberry Torch 9800 underwhelming or even worse . Its earlier sales—150K within the very first weekend—are nowhere fast close to Iphone product sales amounts , however they are nevertheless reputable . Last 7 days , I acquired into a disagreement concerning the BlackBerry Torch having a Gizmodo publisher . This person is most likely two decades more youthful than me and may only see the Flashlight with the prism of the Iphone . The technologies now has wrinkles he explained and also the display quality , in the current 800-by-480 globe , is awkward . I would recently been transporting the Flashlight close to for several days , and that i merely could not accept him. I will not dispute the truth that the apple iphone 4 is a superb item . And also the lot of Google android mobile phones , with and with out key boards , are great items . I love the Android By , for example , although I believe it is too large to transport close to on the day time -to- day time foundation . I love the initial Android and Android 2, although I believe Moto continues to have some function to complete on that computer keyboard . The keyboard—really any cell phone keyboard—is, to some extent , in the core of my difference using the Gizmodo publisher . He, like a number of other earlier 20-somethings, is completely comfy with no bodily computer keyboard . I am not . There are lots of individuals during my era much like me and in all likelihood numerous current Edge clients who nevertheless choose Messaging mobile phones . But departing apart the yawning generational variations , I love the Flashlight and that i appreciate utilizing it . Furthermore I not skip my BlackBerry Bold 9000, I'm not going it back again . Here is why: 1) The Internet browser : Indeed , chiefly a credit score towards the Rim Operating system 6, but with no touchscreen and accelerometer, which allows me change from landscape and portrait setting , the knowledge would not be fifty percent of the same quality . It is certainly quicker , deals with practically any type of Site , and it is supported with a display that, whilst not as high definition like a Android or apple iphone , is definitely razor-sharp sufficient for my eye . 2) The House Display : Edge has been doing a pleasant work using the accessible property about the Flashlight display , and that i adore the way the display techniques remaining to correct and down and up . I'm able to reside in the All display , however , just like other configurable cellular systems , I'm able to personalize it too . You will find a number of symbols about the All display , so having the ability to transfer some to Faves is really a encouraged alter . I am also happy the written text information image has become towards the top of their email list . On my small Daring , I frequently skipped texts since the image was crammed nicely beneath digital collapse . Additionally , I love that a few of the essential applications , like Tweets , are actually a fall behind area of the program . 3) The Touchscreen : I did previously personal a Hand Treo and try to valued the mixture of contact and bodily inputting . Given , the old Hand display was limited . The Flashlight , however , isn't . I love will be able to use actions to maneuver with the numerous displays . Adding the touch and move is encouraged , although , I can not picture somebody starting an impression display without them . 4) The Look : The Flashlight is weightier than my Daring , however it seems excellent during my hands . The line is good , although not groundbreaking . There's something really Rim - ant concerning the Torch—and I am good with this . 5) The Laptop Keyboard and Touch pad : Indeed , the laptop keyboard has a smaller footprint along with a little bit much more confined than my Daring , but Edge has because of the secrets somewhat formed sides , so they are simpler to really feel . I'm able to nevertheless perform some inputting with out checking secrets . Basically kind with an apple iphone , I must view my cerebral vascular accidents ( do not detest me simply because I am aged ). Those who have a mature Contour or very first - era Daring will value the track pad . Nevertheless , the main reason it is fascinating about the Flashlight happens because it life correct beneath a complete touchscreen . In the beginning I asked yourself the reason why you would want the track pad using the motion - powered display . Nevertheless , I quickly grew to become skilled at utilizing it for just one really significantly feature—something that's not very easy to complete with an apple iphone : shifting a cursor close to via characters , phrases , and obstructs of textual content . On an apple iphone , I location my hand exactly where I wish to choose and maintain it before the cursor techniques to that particular place . Basically maintain for any 2nd lengthier , my choice resources seem . There isn't any good way to browse via textual content . The Torch's track pad allows me transfer my cursor anyplace I want—in connects and text—and then begin choosing , duplicating , sticking , and so on . It is a delicate distinction but one that is essential for a particular type of person .

Mac VS PC?

I'm posting this to share my experience and opinion of Mac's VS PC's. I welcome you to read and share your story. For many years I was a PC. I believed whole-heartedly that I needed Windows, and I needed Microsoft. Then I bought my last laptop. It wasn't cheap. I used it everyday for work and therefore it was important that it ran efficiently. Like many of you, I suffered from "blue screens" and on occasion a "crash". There were viruses and trojans and attacks from all places, you'd think I was engaged in war! Then the proverbial "last straw" occurred. I needed to upgrade into some new software, and I received a simple message that I needed to also upgrade the Windows Service Pack. Hmmm.... Seemed easy enough. (Been there. Done that.) So, off I went to download the SP (from a reputable source) and then "Success!"... I got a message that said "Successfully installed. Windows must restart to complete process". Hmmm... Ok... I pressed through the process to restart my machine and there it began.... The long and never ending cycle had started! My laptop shut down, started to boot and then upon seeing the (dare I say it?) Vista Start Up Screen, my laptop promptly repeated itself and began to reboot... o_0 ??? This went on for sometime... *anger growing*... NOTHING I did would stop this, or should I say NOTHING would START my laptop. It was forever entangled into a mysterious vortex of computer "Neverland". I was NOT impressed. I had to borrow another computer to do some research and found very little at the time to explain this conundrum. Then I tried Microsoft. I used their "so-called" online customer service department and was put in touch with someone who was younger than my oldest pair of shoes. He also couldn't speak English very well, so without being incredibly rude I requested another agent. Upon conversing with agent #2, I knew I was in trouble... (Was Agent #2 related to Agent #1???) ... o_0 ??? *shakes head* I will give credit to Agent #2. He was nice. He tried his hardest to suggest everything under the sun, but alas, we both concluded it was hopeless. The final bluescreen error number confirmed the toe tag on my machine. So I was left with having to reinstall the entire system and lose EVERYTHING on my laptop. *fuming mad now* Then it occurred to me that "Windon'ts" (as I affectionately call them now), opted not to provide me with necessary disks to reinstall their OS during my purchase. It seems that the cost of a CD has become so expensive for Microsoft that they are forced to leave it up to the consumer to fend for themselves. Clearly, they are suffering financially, No? When I rationalized this logic with Agent #2, he suggested that I purchase Windows 7 as it had just come out and was much better than Vista (No kidding.... *rolls eyes*). But why? Why prey-tell should I have to purchase anything? My laptop was only 14 months old (conveniently out of warranty) and may as well have been a pre-historic dinosaur as far as Agent #2 was concerned. So where did me and Agent #2 leave off? He suggested I "borrow" an installation disk from someone and reinstall windows vista and start over... *tics forming now...* He assured me that my "service call to Microsoft" would remain as "unsolved". (Oh btw, at this point we were regulars on the telephone). So my ONE LAST QUESTION to him was: "What assurance do I have, after reinstalling Vista and then the SP I need, that this problem won't just start again?" - His reply was, "Well, it shouldn't"... Straw officially broken. Now we come to my life with my new MacBook. Clearly much more expensive than a Windon'ts PC, but wait... Is it? Let's review. There are more "open-source apps" available to a Mac (meaning you get them for free), and in most cases I find they are the same if not better than the paid for MS version. The critical applications that I use everyday for work, installed fine and without issue. I also received "DISKS" from Apple. Apparently they can afford to give customers what they pay for.... Upon opening the box, I was running my new laptop within 5 minutes. Easy Peasy... The time alone that I save from all that aggravation is money in the bank. Do I miss anything? Yes, actually I do (or maybe I don't). What I miss out on are bluescreens, viruses, trojans, attacks, intrusions, crashes and all the other fun stuff I got to know and expect with a PC. So why tell all of you about this now? Well yesterday I noticed that the bottom of my MacBook had a slight bulge in the case. *Heart skipped a beat*. Then after some mild panic, with visions of my last ordeal swirling in my head, I went online in search of why, and found the answer within 5 minutes. Apparently this was something Apple became aware of and had a simple solution. Fill out a contact information form along with my serial number and I got a confirmation message. Not only would I receive an ENTIRELY NEW bottom to my MacBook, I would receive a full set of screws AND a screwdriver!!! All FREE OF CHARGE. NO SHIPPING FEES. COST ME NOTHING!!! *shocked* Now I was beaming. *ear to ear grin* I felt validated for my departure from PC. Then in some kind of absurd customer service universe, I received a knock at the door. My replacement parts had arrived!!! - Less than 24 hours later... *mouth gaping and eyes wide* So I thank you for reading this. I encourage you to share your opinions. If you don't know who I am. I am canucksgirl. I'm a Mac. Not a PC.
