So, I've been considering modifying an inexpensive muzzle loader into a coil gun with a backpack power supply.... it seems to me that this would be possible but impractical, which is perfect for an art installation... I would then take it hunting, to test its lethality. any thoughts on the idea?

I had posted this on another forum asking for advice as well, but I haven't received a reply in days and I figured that the community there was more into the artistic craft sort of stuff. I like the engineering mindset of this community far better as I tour around here a lot looking at neat instructables, so maybe you guys can offer me some solid advice. I have a series of small metal parts with minute details on them, and I want to take them and create clay replicas of them. I want these clay replicas to essentially be spot-on accurate to the original and be durable; not brittle, heavy, and perhaps slightly flexible. Essentially, though it may sound strange, I'm working on a World War II movie project. I don't have the fire-arms necessary for it, and I don't have a reason to use real fire-arms, so I want to create dummy replicas that have believably working systems that of course are just made of clay and aren't capable of firing. I'm also of course going to create miscellaneous objects, such as papier mache helmets and whatnot. At the bottom are a few examples of what I need constructed. I don't know what type of clay would be the best for this; I can afford to have it be slightly flexible, but not rubbery. It would be handled and roughed around a lot and couldn't be brittle, lest it shatter. I also think that I would probably have to make a mold of the metal parts, but what material should I use? Some sort of molding latex, or clay? Would the clay stick to the metal, and if so, can I oil the metal to make it easy to remove, or would that interfere with the chemistry of the clay somehow? I've also considered maybe using papier mache to mold the parts, as I'm sure that it would be tough. Perhaps I could achieve this by carefully cutting the strips? I've considered that clay may not even be the best material for this, although it may certainly help with molds; tutorials on how to create molds for complex objects are also appreciated, since these have internal chambers and whatnot. Maybe I can eyeball it and cut the parts out of foam, and then coat it with some sort of hardening resin? I don't know, I'm certainly up for suggestions here. Thanks in advance! P.S. Oh, by the way, if any moderators feel that it would be better suited in the "Burning Questions" subforum feel free to move it there; I wasn't sure whether or not to post there since I simply want advice, not someone to make an instructable for me.

This is the latest design of my new rifle. it is a pump-action RBG rifle, that has semi or full auto capability. it uses a fairly small amount of pieces and has a detachable stock and extendable barrel. it is true trigger, and uses a new design for the fireing mechanism. i need atleast five people to ask me to post it, or i won't bother. comments welcome, and if anyone wants more pics, just ask.

Does anyone know of some good exercises for helping hold rifle steady? by exercises I mean which muscles to work on and how, as well as some shooting exercises. But, because I am 14 and live in Australia, I only have access to a gun at the range, which I go to twice a month, so obviously I can't do shooting exercises at home. thanks, THE MAD MAN

I know this probably belongs in the calaborations section, but i'm not very good with computers and I couldn't figure out how to put it there. I am working on building a high powered knex sniper rifle, but I am sort of stuck, I don't know of any magazine and barrel combinations that are accurate and don;t jam at all, any ideas?

Well, im in the planning phase of making a new air rifle, i rly want to put a bipod on it this time. i have been looking all around the interwebs, but no success on finding plans/instructions/ideas on how to make one. so my question is, dose any 1 know how to make a bipod, or dose any 1 have any ideas/info or any contributions at all? My preferences are that it be made from something easy to get my hands on. And that it has some manner of folding away. Also, 1 request, no k'nex plz :)

I need some help. I'm making a "needle rifle" (similar to a Halo needler, only green needles and it's a rifle) for a (working) prop. I made a few drawings of needle guns I could (or could not) make (depends on If I can work out a few kinks). The one I'm farthest in development on is the weapn seen on the bottom. This is a needle rifle. I want to mod a Nerf gun to shoot green darts (hopefully illuminated by glow in the dark, LED, etc...) and APPEAR like it's shooting needles (dyed plexiglass spikes) from a wheel that spins and "regrows" (not really) needles. I need a Nerf/Air Blasters/Air Zone dart gun that is motorized, rapid fire, and loads by inserting the individual darts into the gun when opened (no clips or ammo chains- although, good idea for a different needler gun design...). So here's my question- Which gun do I use, How do I integrate it into/around the "needle wheel" thing, and does anyone know how do make Nerf darts (suction cup/tagger/sonic/whatever works is great) actually light up? If it helps, I've got a zillion of these button cell batteries that seem to be the same diameter as a standard Nerf dart...Would an LED work? Also, if anyone has any ideas for a dart gun to use for the other guns in the drawing, it would be great if I could get some help with that as well.

I was going to post this in another forum but the pictures on the comments didn't work so here it is. it has a true trigger with a sear, there is a small rod to pull back the firing pin under the carrying handle, the sear automatically locks into place and the mag is not detachable because of the amount it wobbles.the trigger housing is a little messy and i feel the front isn't as good as it could be so i just want some feedback on what you guys think about it and how i could improve it.

I have a Savage model 600 .177 cal.air rifle. Can you tell me who actually made this gun and approx.when it was made. Thank you for your help.
This LEGO rifle by Jack Streat at MOCpages.com is pretty awesome. If there was ever any ideal way to shoot LEGO bricks, this would be it. Even the creator is impressed: This is by far the best rifle i have ever made. it is a working magazine-fed rifle in bolt action configuration, with detachable magazines, sniper scope and bi-pod. Check out the video to see it in action and the link below for a lot more pics. Lee Enfield Bolt Action Sniper Rifle via Neatorama

Recently, Ive seen people say their guns shoot "loser rounds", and some people have called their guns "loser rifles". Exactly what is a loser rifle, and what makes people say its a loser rifle? I personally havent seen any discussion on the subject, so yeah...

The assault rifle competition winner will get a 5 star rating on any 5 instructables/forum topics/groups. (in that order, can mix). the 3 runners up will recieve a 5 star rating to an instructable of their choice. There will be categories, and everyone can vote for one gun in each category. i am only accepting assault rifles - must have a working mag, be the size of a rifle and fire.A voter may only vote up to two of their guns into any of the categories, and must vote something for every category. Okay. Went to Big 5 Sporting Goods today and picked up an air rifle for 90 bucks. The box says "RS1 Air Rifle Combo", combo meaning scoped, however there is no indication on the box of a second barrel, which should be included to be able to shoot .22 pellets as well as .177. However, once I unboxed, I looked at the receiver and engraved in is "Sportsman RS2 Series", which should be a different rifle, which should also have a second barrel. The second barrel was not there. The manufacturer is Beeman. Can anyone tell me whats up with this?

I had an idea to make a new (i think) type of knex machine gun. it is like knexwizard's semi auto rifle but it has a single shot trigger from viccie.b's crossbow. i made it but it fired its whole magazine (20 grey connectors) in one shot! after modifiying it to put tonnes of friction on the wheel that holds the bands i got it to fire its mag in two shots- still not good enough. can anyone help me?

Hi, I don't have a lot of experience with airsoft guns and I'm thinking about buying this sniper rifle (MB04D) http://gunfire.pl/product-eng-1152190936-MB04D-replica.html?text=Mb04d It is recommend to take .25g bbs but I want to hunt small animals with it so , would it break the gun if I put in .36g bbs? I am also in Ireland so the gun will have to be reduced to 328 fps from ~450fps thanks for any feedback

A little sneak-peek of my sniper rifle to come. :) It is difficult to operate, as it was built for an extreme emphasis on range/power and nothing else.It can use fin-stabilized dart rods IE KillerK sniper rounds. When I have the spare time, I'll run tests to see how much range I can get it to go, how accurate it really is, etc. In the first picture, it is unloaded and not cocked. In the second picture, it is ready to fire a red rod full-power.In the third picture, same as second but closer view of the mechanics.

Incase if you don't know what W.I.P Means it means Work In Process yes i will soon release a Battle Rifle to replace the Assault Rifle (its not a 3 round burst it only shoots 3 ammo at once kinda like a shotgun) it is pretty cool exept that you can see that little hole in the number area UPDATE well im sorry to say that i've been so busy that i dont think il be able to release it, but if you still want to use it then first, download Halo Trial and after you install it, go to the Halo Filefront place (in google search: Halo Files) then in the search bar type in: Halo 2 Mod for Halo Trial (NOTE: there will be 2 so click on 1 of them and if you see red letters and a link to a new version then click it)
