Help with flashing LED circuit design.

Hello, I was wondering if some could help me with a circuit design. Designing is my weak point, so apologies in advance if it is a simple question. Basically, there will be 9 LED's in total, 3 in each row. It will be powered by a 9v battery. The LED's are 2.2v 50mA. So I want the 3 LED's in Row 1 to illuminate. Then Row 1, de-luminate fully, then Row 2 to illuminate straight after. Then Row 2, de-luminate fully, then Row 3 to illuminate straight after. Then start over again, so it's basically a sequence of 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3 etc. From what I understand a 555timer is required?  I'm looking to do this as cheap as possible Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

3 colour portable LED Light Box wiring - Please Help Newbie Answered

I am building a portable LED Lightbox with a few rows of LEDs amounting to about 400 different coloured LEDs (red, green, white). Each row will be connected parallel as I want to use normal batteries to power it and not have too many wires. Ideally it should use AAA batteries and 1 switch to switch it on. Each row will consist of 15 - 30 lights each. Each row will be the same colour (eg. 1 row red, 1 row green, 1 row white). My question is:1 (1) Should I connect all the lights together and hook it up to the same battery pack? OR (2) I should connect just the lights on each row together and wire all the positive of each row to the battery pack. Will it cause a short circuit since there will be many wires to just 1 battery pack. (3) I have tried and each LED can be powered by a 3V battery, but is 3V enough to power 400 LEDs in parallel? (4) If it is not enough, I could power a few rows together meaning I will have a few battery holders, but can all the battery holders be joined to just 1 switch or I need many switches as well? Thanks!!

How to make a 2-row Sequential LED flashing circuit? Answered

I want to make a circuit that lights up two LED's then turn them off then lights up the next two LED's and so on. I want it so it looks like the light is scrolling across the LED's. I know how to do this with one row but how do I do it with two rows so that the two row are in sync? *Update: August 8, 2013* I have a ramp for my R/C car with 2 rows of 6 LED's. I want the bottom two to light up, then turn off. Then the next two above them to light up, then turn off and so on. As if the light was travel from the first two LED's, to the second one, to the third, to the fourth and so on. Then have the light come back to the start. I'm also really new to electronics so, if possible, try to keep it as simple as possible.

How do I display specific rows from a SQL database using $_GET? Answered

For my latest website, I have created a MySQL database to store user-submitted data. Currently for the homepage a PHP script connects to the database and selects a random row to display on the page. The table is set out like this: ID               Quote                 Author                Category 21              blah                    anonymous        Life 22              hdhshs               anonymous        Food I wanted to create a page where when a user goes to , it displays the row with the ID number of 45. That I have done successfully. But now I want to create a page where if you go to, say:, where it lists all rows under Life. But after tweaking the code for the Post page, it doesn't seem to work. Code for Post Page: $user="**********"; $password="**********";$database="**********"; $connection=mysql_connect('**********',$user,$password);@mysql_select_db($database) or die( "Unable to select database");  $sql = "SELECT * FROM `quotes` WHERE `id` = " . mysql_real_escape_string ( $_GET['id'] );  mysql_select_db ( $database, $connect ); if ( @mysql_query ( $sql ) )  { $query = mysql_query ( $sql );   $row = mysql_fetch_assoc ( $query );   echo '' . $row['quote'] . '#' . $row['id'] . ''; }  else { die ( mysql_error () );  }?> What do I need to change in the above code, to display a list of every row in the database with a category of whats in the URL?  This is my first time running a MySQL database, so sorry if the code is a bit squiffy.

Help with LEDs

Hi, I'm new to the whole electronics thing, and i decided to try and make a sign for my brother for christmas. I was planning to back light it with 4 rows of 3 leds in each row, each row being a different color. I was planning to power it with a plug in the wall power supply that outputs 9v DC 450 mA. Also i was planning to have a switch for each row, and a potentiometer to control all the leds. The leds have about a 2.8 forward voltage @ 20mA. I was wondering if it would be possible to power the leds with this power supply, and if so, what the circuit diagram would look like with all the resistors, leds, etc.. (whatever else i need). Thanks

Multiplexing query?

Hi, I am having a problem with multiplexing. I have my grid set up with 60 leds all connected in rows and columns as per usual and my eventual goal is to have each led come on one after another. Sorry I can't think of a single term to describe this action at the moment. This is for a clock, in particular the seconds but the way I see it, when row 1 (my cathodes) is high ie to ground and after each column (my anodes) is lit sequentially (found my single term) when I get to the next row of LED's, it seems that as columns 1-8 are already high, when row 2 goes high then all the LED's in that row will light simultaneously.  If I could have some pointers, that would be great. Many thanks Additional information: My set of LED's will be run off a PIC 28X2 with DS1307 RTC in case anyone needs to know.

how do I rig a row LEDs to come on and stay on in response to an outside stimuli?

I want to make a wedding card box that has a row of LEDs in hearts (like the life bar from Zelda that is a row of hearts that light up as you get more life) So as more and more cards are put into the box, the hearts will light up. I picture that after, say, 3 cards are put in, that half of the first heart lights up. Then after 3 more cards are put in, the whole heart lights up. Then after another 3 cards are put in, the 1st half of the next heart will light up. Originally I thought that I could make it pressure sensitive. That after so much pressure was put on the sensor it would make the LEDs light up. But looking through this site, I see you can rig things up to a darkness indicator. So as more cards are put in and the cards block out more and more light to the sensor, more and more LEDs will light up. Or a motion sensor. But a motion sensor, senses motion-lights up the LED-shuts off the LED after the motion has stopped. I need a few of the LEDs to light up in response to the motion of the cards entering the box, then stay on. Then more LEDs light up as more cards fall in. I am not sure what way would be the easiest. I am a noob when it comes to electronic projects. I have bought an Arduino starter kit and some LEDs to pay around with. I have made it through some online tutorials and I am catching on. If anyone has any suggestions or advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Pinout for disposable SpO2 monitor (Masimo LNCS Adtx)? Answered

When I was in the hospital recently, they used a "disposable" blood oxygenation (SpO2) fingertip monitor. They let me take it home with me afterward (otherwise they'd just discard it!). I would like to find a pinout for it and see what else I can do with a paired LED/photodiode.The model is Masimo LNCS Adtx. The connector is rectangular, but with a "9-pin D" style of pins -- top row five, bottom row 4, and with the second pin in each row removed for keyed insertion.I've been able to find operator's manuals and user guides on the Web, but nothing technical. Anyone out there with medical equipment experience who can point me toward a spec?

Dynamo powered TV

Hi All, Im not sure what to search for or where to begin with this idea and was wondering if anyone can help me. My wife is always adamant to lose weight and buys random exercise machines (bike, treadmill etc.) These last for about 2-3 weeks then she gets bored of them. She has asked for my help in trying to get her motivated so i have devised a plan. muhahaha She has said that her exercise will consist of her in front of the TV at night rowing away (she just got a new rowing machine again). so my plan is to snip the plug of the TV connect this to a 240 volt relay that i can connect to the arduino and at a set time the arduino will turn of the relay switch until extra power is brought in by the dynamo on the rowing machine. the relay will start at 8pm and turn off around 6am in the morning.   A bypass switch will be added to allow the relay to turn on for 30 mins as we have a small child and she doesn't want to sit rowing whilst watching TV trying to get him back to sleep whilst feeding him a bottle. My question is would this be possible and what stuff would be needed to make a dynamo on to the rowing machine? also can a arduino be programmed to do something with a small input of electric?  Also this idea has been agreed on by my wife.

How to make a large LED chase effect?

I am looking to make a Xmas jumper with an LED chase effect to mimmic the snow falling.  I am having difficulties in deciding which is the best way to do this. Essentially Think of having 8 strings of 8 LED's (to make it simple) and each string will have its own chase effect running.  I want these to be independent of one another, I.E. I don't want a constant LED line running down the jumper. Now I have thought of two ways of doing this via Arduino:- 1) Simple Method - Using the ATMEGA328 to run each string of 8, providing its own running time and speed. 2) Difficult Method - Use a grid where one ATMEGA328 can run a 8x8 matrix.  This would require some transistors at each row and column and fancy code to produce the right effect. Disadvantages of 1&2 1) Lots of wiring, 8 ATMEGA chips and power supplies 2) Unsure if this is possible, obviously I can switch quickly but to the eye would this even be visible.  For example if I wanted to power column A and row 1 and simultaneously power column D and row 5... would this power said LED's and also column A row 5 and column D row 1, all at the same time? Any help would be greatly appreciated.  If I have overlooked any other methods, please feel free to mention them. Thanks Mo

VCR Loading motor voltage?

Pin it Button! Did you see it!

The Pin It Button is back!  You may not have noticed, but it is there. It is pretty simple to use. To see the button, hover over the image you want to pin.  Don't open the image.  You can pin the big images, and the images that are in rows of two.  Any more images in a row than that and it doesn't look like you can pin them. Click the Pin It button. This will open a new tab the same as the bookmark bar Pin It button works. Pin the image. Close the separate window. You are done! Please, PIN AWAY!

how do i fix my keyboard on my compaq presario c715 laptoP?

The top row of letters Q-P do not work, except for the U key which repeats constantly. the same problem exists for the bottom row of Z-M with the M repeating.  i've tried numerous driver updates, checks, etc, and even system restores. Nothing has worked. And to the best of my knowledge, nothing was spilled on to it, nor was it dropped or stepped upon.  Please help. I prefer any sites or step-by-step [visual] instructions on the process if possible. thanks!

How do you type?

Well my computer teacher says always to keep your hands in the home row position(look at picture.) and not to do move your fingers around just to move them up and down to the according key. By the way the home row is.. a s d f g h j k l ; Now is this a better way to type or just to move your fingers around. another explanation: he says to keep your fingers on a s d f g h j k l ; and then curl them down or up to hit the key. Hopefully the pictures will clear it up.
