We are going to a scout camp soon where we launch water balloons at each other. Does anybody know how to make a trebuchet or ballista out of poles and rope?

I have a targus wifi scout and I would like to extend the range of it. I have tried a few different things, and nothing seems to really work. Does anyone know a good reliable way to extend the range of this device without throwing it away and buying a better one. I got this one for free and dont mind messing it up if I have to though. LOL Thanks for reading. Have a good one.

My Scout group is trying to get money from an insurance company's Community Fund to replace our dilapidated tents - to buy enough for all our Scouts to camp at once will cost hundreds of pounds we haven't got. All I need from you is a few clicks to add your vote to our group's application. https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/%28X%281%29S%28vys0m5agaunzvpmtgo0c2jrp%29%29/project/view/1319/ Please follow the link, register your vote, and share the link with your family, friends or random people on social media. [Major edit] Oh, such a busy weekend - business suddenly picked up on my Etsy shop. Badges ("pins" for you Americans) and woggles are now winging their way across the UK, and a couple to Canada. Gunapult is up there, along with a load of Scouting badges and bird badges. Also, Kitewife nagged me into adding some knitting-themed pins... I've also got a Remembrance woggle which is proving quite popular.

Hi, I'm trying to recreate the girl scout cookie called "All Abouts" They were discontinued some time ago. I'm sure the cookie bit is a form of short bread but I'm not sure what kind of chocolate or fudge to use or even how to apply it on to the cookie like the image I attached. It doesn't need to be 0 trans fat like the image. Any help would be appreciated, thank you so much.

You may have noticed that I mysteriously stopped posting for a couple of days. I've been camping! I came on as a last-minute substitute when another leader was unexpectedly hospitalised, and whizzed off to Gilwell 24 with a small group of our Explorer Scouts. It's an awesome event for teenage scouts - from 09:00 Saturday, to 09:00 Sunday, 24 hours of non-stop activities without the requirement of sleep. Four thousand Explorer Scouts took up the challenge, and almost all of them managed a full 24 hours of extreme Scouting. 3G Swing Archery Bushcraft Zone Bouldering Campfire Climbing (Outdoor rock and revolving wall) Craft zone Crate stacking Disco Fairground Flying Trapeze Geocaching Giant games Gilwell gauntlet Global Zone - including Shelterbox High ropes course Laser Clay Pigeon Shooting Mountain boarding Orienteering Outdoor arena Quad Bikes Outdoor Woodland Quaser Raft Racing / Boat Racing Rifle Shooting Competition Scavenger hunt Scuba Diving Slacklining Speed climbing Segways Simulators Technology zone Water rockets Assault Course Car driving Go Karts Power Boking Inflatables Fire Building Fishing Military Activity Team Speed Stacking Caving Zorbing As well crafts and other activities going on all the time (I had my first go at wood-turning at 14:00, and was soldering together an AM band radio at 22:30 (goodness me, the writing on a capacitor gets small later at night!)). Add to that a month's rain in about 20 hours, giving liquid mud on the scale of Glastonbury, it's hardly a surprise that every single Explorer fell asleep on the train home. Because my standing-in was very short notice, none of my electronics were properly charged, but I did get a few snaps of the atmosphere before my iPod completely died. I have never been so wet or so dirty on a camping trip, and I was taking it easy - it's the first time I've been forced to pack my tent away wet and muddy at the end of a camp. If you're a Scout or an Explorer, and will be over 13½ next July, why not take up the challenge yourself? If you fancy taking part, offering an activity, or otherwise getting involved in next year's event, they are already taking comments and ideas. If you're not in Scouting, and didn't realise it was so awesome (or that girls are allowed at any age), then why not think about joining? (As an aside, I'd never seen Rock-It-Ball being played before. Looks fun.)

I'm planning on using a pop bottle, and layering the sand and gravel inside it.... using the screw top end as the tap.... I have a BASIC idea of what i need... I just want to be sure it works! I've designed and cut a set of badges for local district's Cub leaders. In case you don't know, Akela is the leader of the wolf pack, Raksha is the mother wolf, Baloo is the bear, Bagheera the black panther, Kaa is the serpent and Mang the bat (that's my own badge). Full disclosure: the Raksha badge is just the Akela badge, flipped left-for-right. So I'm lazy... The hare is nothing to do with scouting, that's just because Kitewife likes hares. UPDATE: These badges, and more, are now all available on my Etsy store, LightWorksLaser. Go, see, buy!

http://boyslife.org/wayback/ I most remember "scouts in action" these were cautionary tales, as well as how to get yourself or a stranger out of a tight spot. They seem to be about page 45 to 65. Common topics: "trapped in quicksand" or " when the cave collapsed" or "the chemistry set explosive went off in his hand!!" But there was so much more, like how to make stuff with sticks, rope and knots. So much of my kidhood was howto based on scout stuff. I'm tryin to figure out how to paste pics from the mag at the above link.

Is it allowable for us to translate or "copy & paste" the Instructables to our Indonesian scouting blog? What should we do then? I'm an officer of Hizbul Wathan Scouting Organization of the Muhammadiyah in Indonesia. Frankly speaking, we have no fund to start big, but we would like to disseminate your ideas.

Yes, I was a girl scout. And NO ONE in my troupe had more merit badges than me.I miss those beautifully embroidered circles of majesty, medallions of my skills and talents, proudly decorating my bright green sash for the world to interpret. Well honey, those days are not over. Thanks to BOING BOING for turning me on to the "ORDER OF THE SCIENCE SCOUTS OF EXEMPLARY REPUTE AND ABOVE AVERAGE PHYSIQUE" http://www.scq.ubc.ca/order-of-the-science-scouts-of-exemplary-repute-and-above-average-physique/ and Nerd Merit Badges,http://www.nerdmeritbadges.com/ with their specialty-themed badges. There's something in there for everyone, from the "I've touched human internal organs with my own hands" badge to the "I may look like a scientist, but I'm actually also a pirate" badge.I'm hoping to pass my "I've set fire to stuff" (LEVEL II) test and get that badge any day now.

Inappropriate Incomplete Spam first thing first, i want absolutely the BRIGHTEST flashlight i can my hands on! how many lumen's should i shoot for (to impress others)? 100, 270, 350, 600, 900, 1500, 3600, 5000+ (5000 Lm i pretty sure is overkill)? i have an led flashlight i got for 12$ and is advertised to be over 600 Lm but I'm pretty sure its maximum is 70Lm. (it seems to be slightly brighter than the 9 LED tactical flashlight i had) but I'm not sure. i have no light meter. the LED itself is (as advertised) is CREE (i don't believe that either but again, I'm not sure). i would like to make portable HID flashlight. my plans are to: BUY: 6V LANTERN HID KIT (BULBS) HID BALLAST 12V BATTERY (I"m not sure where i could find a suitable 12-15V 35W [or more] battery that will fit nice and snug in the lantern with room for the ballast. the battery should last almost a week with some moderate use.) i think a drill battery would work. i will take the original light out and replace it with the HID. then, i will need to find a place for the slim ballast [but where???] . then,i need to find a battery (i think a 12V drill battery should work [will a 14.4V drill battery with the case off fit in the modified 6V lantern flashlight? if so, where can i buy a affordable and well suited 12V-16V battery?] if there isn't any small, powerful (and preferably cheap), battery in existence? [4 by 4 by 2 array of AA rechargeable batteries seems promising and so does 6^2 by 2 array seem promising. 6 by 6 by 2 AAA] will the ballast and lamp work with less power (6W-34W)? is there a simple and small ballast circuit schematic i can follow? i never found one. so i assume no. :-( also is the 5000K neutral white, warm or cool? (i think it is the closest to neutral white with a VARY slight blueish tint) i think i got a grasb on this and i want 6000K (i want something led white but still bright and useful enough to easly see what i'm doing on campouts)

Today, my two sisters and I went to the scout camp with my mom's friend, just so we could take a few pictures of it for some business stuff. My two sisters and i took a very short hike through the bushes, and since the scout camp isn't used to often in the middle of the summer, it had tall grass. Unfortunately, I got a tick, but I did not notice (i think it was on my pants or something.) I know i got the tick there, because there is no ticks at my house, and i was only outside at my house for about half an hour (yes, i'm a couch potato). However, at the end of the day i found the tick on my leg. it hadn't bit me, it was just crawling around. I now have it in an old superglue container, so it shouldn't be able to escape. but what should i do with it; release it, or kill it? P.S. it's either a wood tick, or a deer tick. It's the smaller of the two, but i forget which is which.

Instructables member Phenoptix put me onto a fun event this weekend - two chaps from the Extreme Electronics (Derek and Dave) website led an informal workshop on how to build a classic Tesla coil, from power supply through to topload and breakout. They also brought along a few of their toys to demonstrate what they were talking about, and I grabbed a few (shaky) videos. Thanks to Derek & Dave, it was a grand night, and thanks to the "Lone Scout" for the supply of coffee.

I need to tie dye 50 shirts at a cub scout camp out. does anyone have any awesome ideas as to what dye / the best way / best tie, is it wise to concentrate dyes , since we can't dip fabric for too long etc. Camping you know. 50 little boys.
The quad-cube is four 2x2 cubes stuck corner to corner. I have not been able to find any instructions or algorithms on how to solve one. Whenever I try to use 2x2 algorithms there is one corner that doesn't match up. Making an instructable on this would be a great idea too because it's the 30th anniversary of Rubik's cubes.

I've wanted to acquire the training of a Marine Scout Sniper for a while, but decided against it. I read and found out that me getting a chance for Sniper School were pretty small, and that I'd rather not spend a majority of my military career on a boat with the Navy. (No offense intended to either the Navy or Marine Corp.) Recently, I discovered the Army offers something similar. (ASI B4) Even If I wasn't able to get that training, I would still (probably) be Infantry, which isn't half bad. How does Marine Basic differ from Army Basic? How does Marine Sniper School differ from the Army School? Are they the same? How many schools are available for military use in the US? What is the washout rate for the Benning School? What is the psych evaluation like? How is GT score (I assume from the ASVAB,) calculated? Is there a certain AIT I would have to pass to be eligible for Sniper School?

I teach at a Boy Scout camp in Wisconsin, and one of my main duties is our kayaks. One requirement involves teaching different materials for kayaks (canoeing has the same requirement) and I was wondering if anyone had an idea on where I could get different material samples/scrap/castoffs to use as a teaching aide. Off the top of my head, the materials are polyethylene, Kevlar, Royalex, carbon fiber, and fiberglass. Any suggestions?

The Girls Scouts are hosting an Earth Day event that is about preparedness and the skills needed to be a survivor. I'm trying to create stations or booths with different skills for students and adults to try or learn. For example, one station will be learning knots. Another station will have simple materials for participants to make a makeshift shelter. I need ideas that are fairly simple to teach or show at that stations that can be done in less than 10 minutes. I'm also interested in a game. Thank you.

I'm about to go on an overnight canoeing trip with my scout troop, and we were wondering about the best way to keep our gear dry. I know that there are those dry bags that you can buy at places like REI, but I was trying to come up with a cheaper option. We'd be storing tents, food, personal gear, and backing stoves, and a few other things. If you have any ideas and methods you have previously tried, please tell me!
