Hello, peoples! I want to install a second xbox 360 controller onto my PC, so that my brother and I can play games together without me having to use the keyboard and mouse and having much rage quit happen. But, the lovely people at Microsoft say that it isn't possible to install more than one controller on a PC, but I know that's bull because I've seen people do it before. I already have one installed; I have the driver and everything. But my computer doesn't even look at the second controller like it exists. What is wrong, how do I fix it and how can I make gaming easier? Thank you for your time!!

In an instructable I recently published (How to pick up women online), I have discussed how to make use of Second Life in order to beat Approach Anxiety, to perfect some pickup techniques, and to improve conversation. I know of a few second life players who have made use of the game in order to overcome their fears, insecurities and phobias, and to widen their horizons. It seems to me 3D virtual worlds offer a tremendous opportunity to acquire real life skills (for instance I also know people who have used second life to perfect a language). I was wondering if anyone could think of similar uses for second life, and ideas on how to implement them.

Second LawAn unsuitable thread isolated from replies will descend the list into obscurity. This is an "anti-spam" law. We have all seen threads appear that advertise odd things - trainers, dating sites, Chinese plastic-moulding factories - and we all agree they should no be here. It is tempting to reply to the threads to express our chagrin, but that makes the thread bob to the surface again, pushing more useful threads down.Far better to flag the thread and let it slide down the list until it disappears. In addition, this law can also be applied to trolls - if somebody starts a thread specifically to start an argument (as opposed to a discussion), or just to put another user or group of users down, then they are trolling. Those threads should also be allowed to slide.Addendum to the second lawSpam advertisers may be chastised through the Private Message system to prevent their thread's longevity. If you cannot resist giving a spammer a piece of your mind, the PM system is very useful - the spammer gets an email alert to your comment, they are aware of your feelings, but the thread is undisturbed.Similarly a troll may be gently reminded of the site's Be Nice policy via a PM. Should the troll decide to respond with vitriol, they are deprived of the audience they crave. Finally, you can help the site financially - using a PM to casually point out the correct route for advertising could, perhaps, result in a new fee-paying advertiser for the site.

I doubt that I would ever have time to enter this contest but I'd thought I'd mention a flaw in the prize format for us pesky Canadians, and other potential areas of the globe as well. I'd love to win a kindle fire, however they are not available to Canada. Now I'm sure I could hack a work around for making the Kindle Fire function in Canada, but shipping directly from Amazon to Canada will likely be an issue. Perhaps ship to instructables HQ and then ship privately to non-US winners (if there are any). Or, offer a prize value, though I'd prefer the first sneaky work around. Anyway, just something to think about, awesome second prize regardless.

For my next submission for the scholarship Create, I decided to design a robot that would not help what you do in your daily life, but how. Stress can build up without you yourself knowing. Perhaps you're prone to panic or anxiety attacks and can't recognize them; the first step in dealing with such. So, I would develop a robot that could cater to easing your stressed or panicked condition by detecting the symptoms and then using any number of methods to return to you a normal state. For in-home use, the human would wear a combination heart rate/respiration/oximeter monitor (coupled with a BP cuff perhaps) that would send wireless data to a nearby computer or the robot itself. At such time a stressed condition arises, the programming can recognize what course of action is needed and address it. For instance, a raised heart rate and shortened breath with low oxygen absorption could indicate a panic attack. The robot would then stop what it was doing (vacuuming, chastising cats, etc) and find the human. The robot would then playback an audio message of "Are you feeling OK?" or a soothing musical piece or project a slideshow of recognizable images. The robot could return from time to time after an stress event to check on the progress of the human. If the human doesn't return to wellness, a more advanced robot would suggest any number of relief alternatives ("Should you take your medication?") or possibly notify another human of the situation. Of course, this is no substitute for having a companion or caregiver nearby to assist in these situations. I originally had the idea for people that live and work alone, or happen to find themselves without human contact during times of stress. My fiancee then suggested that I expand the scope to more needy people like the elderly that can't or won't always speak for themselves about how they feel. That version may require more resources than I am privy to unfortunately. If I get a chance to work with a Create, I would try to pack in as many features as possible.I would like the robot to have a some kind of visual representation of a face like an LCD and an interface so the human can interact with the robot. Voice recognition would be nice but a simple red and green button may have to do for now. The human would have to wear, in addition to the monitor, an IR emitter of some kind so the robot can find said human. It could be done cheaply with something like a promotional LED light worn on a lightweight anklet or even attached to a shoe. As a footnote, I'd like to say that anytime I'm tense, there's nothing quite like an episode of "Ask This Old House" to calm me down. Hmmm....

Well, the second semester is pretty much over and I'm getting hit hard with last second work so I figured I would put these up now for some input. If you didn't see my first semester drawings please do, but if you did you know that my company that I band all these designs to is called Veloci. Veloci is the name of the car company I would own someday in the very far future. If you like what I drew and are going to make one of these, tell me. I don't really care if you do make one but I would like to see how it would look in real life or scale size. As far as the cars here I designed: A pickup truck designed like a Bugatti Veyron, Dboye82 's H-pulse concept, Ford Focus ZX3 with Lambourghini styling, a semi-truck, and my company's first golf cart! Please tell me what you think of my cars and if you have any suggestions for cars feel free to comment. I always like new/unique ideas.

When writing, it sometimes helps to build a diorama of a setting. You can then place characters and examine key points from different perspectives. You can even act out the entire scene. Yes, it sounds like playing with dolls, and it certainly is... but it is a huge help to visualize an event so that you can really describe it in your writing. The problem is, a diorama can be time-consuming and sometimes even expensive to set up... and I certainly don't have much space in my home for one. What I need is a virtual diorama. For the current project, I wish for a house with several rooms, a back yard, a small section of street, and a small piece of forested wilderness(all can be separate)... so I need a program that's fairly flexible. First thought was to set up a local OpenSim server, but I ran into a lot of difficulty getting it running and getting content (i.e. props and houses) is a nightmare. Worse, bugs and quirks made it difficult to use in practice. After two weeks of setting up a virtual environment, I crashed the server during a backup and corrupted the whole installation. So OpenSim is not suitable for me. I tried Second Life too, because I figured I'd rent a small piece of land and build on it. Second Life has the advantage of having a lot of content available, but getting a chunk of land big enough to do what I need is too expensive for me, and all the areas I checked out were too laggy. Other things I tried or examined were FPS video games (with map editors) and the Sims... both presented their own problems. I'm open to suggestions on either. Anyway, this is long-winded enough so I'm going to get right to requirements. Here's what I need: -3d simulation with an easily configurable environment. -Simple to use. Need "duh duh" simple" -No distractions. -Little loading or lag time. -A reasonably good selection of objects and props such as houses, furniture, streetlights, asphalt and plants. -The ability to place characters where I want them. Here's what isn't necessary: -Characters don't have to have any animation and can be as simple as cardboard cutouts. -Doesn't have to be free. -Doesn't have to be specific to any OS or hardware.

I recently took the pamel (pennsylvania math league test thing) and for one of the questions it said: rearrange the numbers 2 in anyway with mathmatical symbols to get the highest number possible. I though the answer was 2 to the 222 power The answer was 2 to the 2 to the 22 power Is this correct? I thought that you would multiply the powers to get 2 to the 44 power, now have the power to the power and get 2 to the 4194304 power.

Hi All, Here's what I need to try and achieve: - I have a servo that I had modified and have removed the circuit board. Now it just runs from 3 v - I want to reverse the servo once a momentary switch has been activated for 10-15 seconds - once time is up the servo reverses again I thought about using a 555 monostable circuit which would give me the amount of time, but I am unsure how to achieve everything above. I'd love not to have to use an arduino if possible. Any ideas? Thanks.

I love all things survival, and I used to love Survivorman with Les Stroud. After he stopped his Survivorman series, he made a new show called Survive This. It's about survival among kids. I love this show, and have watched the entire first season. The second season is out now, but it being a Canadian TV show, I can't seem to watch it on my TV, or even find a place to watch it online. Season One was on Cartoon Network, so I could watch that. Cartoon Network dropped the show, though, so now I can't find a place to watch Season Two. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Meet the world's fastest ever road vehicle built to reach an astonishing top speed of 340mph.The Acabion GTBO uses jet fighter technology and aerodynamics to reach its extraordinary speed propelled by a state-of-the-art turbo-charged engine. Its designers revealed it could reach 300mph in a blistering 30 seconds - substantially quicker than the rival Bugatti Veyron which takes 55 seconds to reach its top speed of 250mph.Good grief, that would rattle your teeth! The article implies that an electric version is in the pipeline as well.Daily Mail story750 hp and 700 lbs vehicle weight result in more than 2100 hp per ton. They boost the jet-like GTBO to jet-fighter punch and to new dimensions of both efficiency and speed.V-max 340 mph at half throttle, governor limited.0 to 300 mph in less than 30 sec.Economic theories tell us, that you can not maximize effect and minimize effort at the same time. The Acabion GTBO proves the opposite. It minimizes weight and maximizes power and aerodynamic efficiency. The effects are just out of this world.100 mph at 1.7% throttle and 100 miles per gallon.150 mph at 4.3% throttle and 62 miles per gallon.250 mph at 17% throttle and 25 miles per gallon.Acabion websiteMore photos at Jalopnik

I'm building a guitar pedal and I am inverting phase with the initial buffer (TL072). I am then splitting the signal into two parts, dry (no effect) and wet (effect). Each of these will be output as separate channels (left and right) and not mixed back to mono. I plan to send each channel through its own 386 amplifier chip to boost it to a level suitable for headphones. So, what I am wondering, is, should I use the 386 to invert the phase a second time back to normal? Or should I use an op amp at unity gain to do that before I send it to the 386? Or does it not matter if I am not mixing the two signals back to mono?

I'm trying to figure out what exactly comes with the prize pack in terms of accessories, if any. I don't know much about the pcDuino but I know the Raspberry Pi requires a power supply and SD card to boot. It's not totally clear from the prize page if it comes with these, or if I'll need to get them separately. I'm fairly sure that the following is a bug in AVR-GCC, but I'm not sure. Basically sizeof should tell you the size in memory of something in memory. So you can do sizeof(char) or sizeof(myArray) and it will tell you how many bytes are taken up. If I do sizeof(myArray) where myArray is a local array of chars the answer is correct. If I pass the value as a parameter then the result of sizeof(myArray) is always 1. Does anyone have any idea's or explainaitions? This code is being put on an Attiny2313. Thanks in advance,

Some quite unbelievable art by artist Li WeiChinese artist Li Wei creates art that proves to be impossible. How does he do it, you ask? Performance art and photography is what creates these dangerous illusions. He also uses props such as metal wires, mirrors, scaffolding and acrobatics to help him with the effect. This art is a series of self-portraits that he has made that uses mirrors to reflect his image. Some of his photos sell for around $8,000. As for what people around him think, he told Daily Mail, "The first reaction is astonishment. Some people think they are full of sense of humour. They are curious about how I did this. Sometimes I am in real danger - I have to hang myself high with steel wires and people do get a little worried for me - but I am fine."link via inventorspot.

I'm currently deciding between two cameras, well three actually. The EX-F1 http://www.amazon.com/Casio-EX-F1-2-8-Inch-Digital-Stabilization/dp/B001FR2W9Y/ref=pd_cp_p_0 Which can be found for $1,000 and the EX-FH20 or EX-FH25. Both are practically the same. They cost about $300 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001HCTKZQ I think I should get the EX-FH20. The only real difference is 200 fps. This is only a 20% increase. At the speed of sound or 340.3 m/s filming across one meter, the difference between movement in frames per second is only 2.236 inches. 340.5/1200=.2835 340.3/1000=.3403 .3403-.2835=.0568 meters, or around 2 inches. I'm not going to deal with the speed of sound anytime soon, so I think the EX-FH20 should be fine for my needs.
